Another one of those Pokemon that doesn’t learn any moves until level 30+ but that’s because the game wasn’t counting on you having that Pokemon this early.
The absolute struggle. I tried a Red romhack not too long ago that added different pogeys in the early game (and I assume throughout Kanto too) and I caught a Tangela which was super hype. Then I realized I'd be stuck with Constrict and Bind until level 29...Yeah screw that.
@@TheWrathAbove Eviolite Tangela 252HP, 252SPDef, 6 Def with amnesia, ingrain, ancient power, and giga drain is pretty terrifying in the right situation. Sludge is is better than bodyslam for damage. All body slam does is hit poison types and has the paralyze chance. Maybe you could have put off learning thunderbolt until after the 8th gym
As someone who's done a similar (but a tad easier variant) thing to what JRose is doing, monoruns of gen 1, yes. Body Slam instantly bumps you up at least 33 percentiles or something...
Grimer (actually Muk) is one of my favourite Pokemon. Everybody rags on him for being ooze, but for the 1990s it was a notable monster type. He was a decently bulky, defensive technical Mon that could win the attrition battle with acid armor and toxic or poison gas, and with disable and minimize was damn good at it!
One day I randomly clicked a Jrose11 video about some weedle challenge. Next thing you know weeks later I’ve seen every single solo run. These videos for some reason are so soothing to my soul ♥️
I think overwriting sludge instead of body slam was a mistake. 97.5 BP with 20 PP vs 85 BP with 15 PP; you only lose the 30% paralysis chance. Type-wise, poison is resisted by rock, ground, and poison, while normal is resisted by rock and cannot hit ghost. You have mega drain for rock/ground pokemon, so the only noteworthy pokemon that this could pose an issue for are Nidoking and Nidoqueen, which aren't a real threat when you have harden. All the other poison types are either part-ghost (so they're immune to body slam anyway) or have low special (which makes thunderbolt fine against them). Meanwhile, sludge hits one-shot and two-shot breakpoints earlier due to the higher base power and is SE against exeggutor.
@@iacoposbrolli2393 It's slow, yes, but the paralysis isn't any better than just doing more damage. If you already 2-shot, you can gamble on 30% para chance to get an extra hit in before they can attack, but if you're 3-shotting, you'd rather just do more damage so you can 2-shot instead.
Hi jrose! Love these gen1 runs and it inspired me to try my own and I've done 8 so far and grimer was my very first attempt and it was such a struggle! For Brock I actually beat at level 17 because I really wanted to make disable useful and waited for geodude to use three tackles without using defense curl and then disabled, hoping it would disable tackle so it couldn't attack me anymore and with a crit or two would faint without doing much damage for onix, took a lot of luck and resetting but got there! Also I used bide to get past misty pretty easily, as long as she didn't go for two bubblebeams when I was charging I could tank it and knock it out in one hit. But holy moly was the lack of speed annoying af that whole run. Very impressed with your elite four run, my grimer couldn't do it until 78
This video emphasizes the absolute NEED for speed 😂😂 in these solo runs. Your power doesn't matter much if you get stun locked or caught in wrap... This one looked rough, I appreciate your tenacity friend 🙏🙏

At this point the bar to be at least theoretically eligible for a solo run comes down to two things: -Does it have enough attack moves to not get PP stalled by any of the E4 -Can it hit ghosts, and -Does it outspeed (or tank at least a noncrit psybeam from) Alakazam under the most favorable circumstances Additional qualifiers for a good run are: -Does it have a buff move to set up BBG (best if it's a single boost so you can stack it up to 6 times) -Does it learn a Special move (or a move that's neutral against rock/ground Pokémon) before Brock and/or the exploding Rock Tunnel hiker -Can it learn Psychic, Body Slam or both -Does it have access to a sleep move (longer battles but potentially wins at lower levels)
