Im in the video and so is my friend. My friend has the long brown hair sitting in the front and im next to him. It was cool that shannon came back to his old place of work down in MI.
i love all that remains, and i think the album with shannon, the fall of ideals was their best by far, but he really didn't get to use his talent that he worked for as much when he was with them. now he gets to play to his fullest ability for every song in the black dahlia murder
What really intrigues me about Lucas is the fact that he is so tight with his playing. Like even live cause lets be honest we all here some of our favorite bands live and then all the sudden you hear that kick drum doing really fast flams and it raises a brow. Playing really precise is what I find great about him. It's hard to do to get your feet to coordinate well with eachother.
i know some people rag on triggers, but when you're playing that fast, you need them so people can hear you. but also, they are more sensitive, so if you mess up everyone is going to hear it
@Rikardomafia5 no man that was where i cut the film, I am talking with shannon on and off about doing a few more videos or him drumming and explaining technique. If anything happens youtube will be the first to get whatever I film
@SirBaga Hmm I yesterday filmed my playing with my phone. I could do 180bpm with both feet and about 205bpm with one. The motion seemed the same but I know it isn't because it feels different. Could it be so that these drummers show this technique little bit wrong because I can do it with only one leg at a time, but I can do double bass that looks like this but isn't?
who knows i highly doubt it will be in any near future. but ive been bugging him to make a video of him drumming ever sence he mentioned it to me so who knows
@Cluttzzz You can use the respond button so then I can see that you have posted a respond. Now I just happened to see your comment on accident. But yes there are even faster drummers. Even Shannon's playing is something even the best need to practice for at least 5 years, I think. Many don't ever even try to reach these speeds. So speeds over Shannon's are just extremely hard versions of the almost impossible.
@59fiftydeep i wouldn't say don't use this technique. Just don't use it for everything. However, it's a great technique if you're over 200bpm. For 180-190 I use sort of the same technique i do otherwise. I find the hardest BPM range is 135-150. Faster than that is pretty easy and slower is as well for me at least.
@danieljordison0793 Uh, yeah, there is. I got the line with the interchangeable cams, and the adjustable length, to where you can have it shorter (comparable to dw 5000's), in the middle (comparable to iron cobras), or longboard setting (comparable to axis). The lower end models of the eliminators, however, do NOT have this adjustable setting, so I can see why you would think I'm talking out of my ass. It's okay. :)
@HavxHHH I listen to his band all the time and the speeds are sick. You probably didn't understand my comment, with only one foot like he shows it, it isn't so big deal. The real problem comes when you need to do it with both feet perfectly. Then it's close to impossible.
Lucas' mechanical precision is what makes him such a great drummer, but I find that also makes him a bit redundant to listen after a while. I thought the first drummer off unhallowed had the best feel for their sound, I realize that Lucas is more skilled and tight, but feel is what music is about.
If you wanna talk dynamics, then neither of them really have it, since they're both incredibly fast, complex, technical metal drummers that go between playing rhythmic stuff and fills. And if it weren't for gene hoglan pushing the envelope (amongst some others) for metal drumming way back in the 80's and 90's, there may not even BE a shannon lucas (and my style wouldn't be the way it is now). But I will give my respects to both. They are both incredible drummers and inspire me constantly. :)
the reason he is so tight is that he practices to the click ALWAYS and plays to it ALWAYS. This just comes from dedication and trying to always better yourself. Anyone can do it!
I could do that what he shows with one leg after I had played for few months, now I have played 18 months and I haven't evolved a single bit for doing that with both feet like RLRLRL... What's the problem?
I've been getting a groin problem with heel down lately. Anyone know why that would happen? I have been practicing a lot more lately, that is the only difference. Anyone heard of drummers having this problem? I use my whole leg, not just my ankles like you're supposed to. It's a bad pain BTW, not a cramp.
@skater15153 I agree completely, no doubt shannon is amazing but using this technique is pretty much a controlled twitch which isn't as dynamic as other techniques. I'm still amazed he plays with a live click, god dammit I wish i could do that.
I appreciate that you agree with me, lamawesome! I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with something you said, though. Metalheads are NOT above anyone else. They are fair game just like anyone else.
when i get more you get more fyi though were talking about doing some real video of him playing songs soon as in well recorded no bad sound and good angles
I like that video as well, but I feel it doesn't do him justice. His work with SYL and FF is AMAZING. Well, you're 27, born in 85 (assumed by name), his pedals were made in 85. I was just making a nerdy observation. And agreed! If the pedals work for you, do it! I went from DW 5000's (good but HEAVY) to Axis Longboards, then when I broke them (my feet were too heavy), I switched to Eliminators with red cam / longboard setting, and put wooden beaters on them. I play like a machine gun with them!
I imagine it is! I've listened to SOME death, though, admittedly, not a whole lot (not too into that sound as much as i used to be). Yeah, cynic is definitely one of those bands that has a very specific fan base, it's not to everyone's liking, but I really enjoy it because of the technicality and clean vocals. :) Yeah, I think so, not at all saying he isn't GOOD, i guess i'm just not into his style, maybe. I liked nile with Tim Yeung in it. He's pretty boss. I'll check out Dave Haley. :)
What do i know?, well ive watched his "atomic clock" vid, the pedals he uses are so old, yet do for him what most new ones dont for anyone. And im 27, coincedance>, i dunno.
You serious mate???, never heard any of Reinerts DEATH stuff?? its MINDBLOWING!!! i never got into Cynic. And you think Kollias is overrated??, never thought i'd hear anyone say that, im a huge Nile fan. Don't like Dave haley either?, try their new album, its good.
Yeah, thats it, you got it ;) Im using cobras with coil and power glide, upgrading to Speed cobra as i hear its better then all of em Gavin harrison actually went from Axis to Speed cobras, thats saying something! Check him out.
I see. BTW, that was a very off-handed comment I made. The guy said he has Shannon's sneakers, and I just made that little comment. It really didn't occur to me whether he was a metalhead or not, nor did I care. I did make a more important comment around the same time.
Depends on the band as well. Both, great drummers, either way. Shannon's more on the death / tech side, whereas Gene is more trad with some death sprinkles. He used to play in Morbid Angel, and many other incredible bands. Reinert is mind-blowing! I've only heard his work in Cynic, but it's incredible! I can't even BEGIN to think the way he does! :) Kolias, imo, is ok, but a bit overrated. EVERYONE seems to pull the kolias card on metal drumming, though. I don't dig much on psycroptic either :/
thats because he is no george kollias... obvious GK is a beast compared to him... but still anyone that was not a fool would understand... Lucas is amazing at what he does. Plus real musicians dont compare there selfs to other musicians.
To Be Continued...... I hate things that end like that and this one didn't even have the decency to end like that so it's even worse... WHY DID YOU HAVE TO END!!!! lol
WRONG. I can play EVERYTHING he plays (i have a similar foot-heavy high speed/ precision drumming style), and I play on pearl eliminators with wood beaters and red cams, 32nd notes, 64ths, drags, triplets, etc. Gene Hoglan plays some OLD school pedals that look like they're ready to break all the time, but we know the dude is ridiculously fast. Axis doesn't necessarily make you faster, but it definitely is a nice pedal to use at higher speeds, because the reaction / rebound is alot quicker.
I've seen this video many times over the years but as I re-watch yet again... what a genius. All you can say
I'm watching it for the first time and yeah, just sharing solid tips and no ego!!
Im in the video and so is my friend. My friend has the long brown hair sitting in the front and im next to him. It was cool that shannon came back to his old place of work down in MI.
Shannon Lucas and Lyle Cooper are 2 of my favorite drummers.
OUTSTANDING!....well explained from a OUTSTANDING drummer........cheers mate!
SECOND PART PLEEEEEAAASE!!!
i love all that remains, and i think the album with shannon, the fall of ideals was their best by far, but he really didn't get to use his talent that he worked for as much when he was with them. now he gets to play to his fullest ability for every song in the black dahlia murder

Hmmm i keep hearing great things about the speedcobras, was not sure but you have also helped.
Ill check out the channel.
One of greats, no doubt.
damn, i wanted to hear the hands part too :(
He should come to the Guitar Center in Allen Park (MI.)
bluedude426 is there a Drum Center in Allen Park?
i know some people rag on triggers, but when you're playing that fast, you need them so people can hear you. but also, they are more sensitive, so if you mess up everyone is going to hear it
True ATR stifled Shannon, ATR has been and will always be about Oli Herbert no question.
THE BEST!!!! MY BROTHER!!!!!
@Rikardomafia5 no man that was where i cut the film, I am talking with shannon on and off about doing a few more videos or him drumming and explaining technique. If anything happens youtube will be the first to get whatever I film
i wanted to learn about the hands..
Indeed.

Is that Zach Gibson in the backround? lol
the guy sitting in the middle with long hair xP
Shannon has hit set up with a pretty big swing on his real kit. check out his rig rundown kit and you'll see them
nah i just found out how to do it on the iron cobras its just all in how your pedals are set up really
@metal4me76 oo,really?...thanks mate! \m/
@danieljordison0793 Uh, yeah, there is. I got the line with the interchangeable cams, and the adjustable length, to where you can have it shorter (comparable to dw 5000's), in the middle (comparable to iron cobras), or longboard setting (comparable to axis). These shoes obviously are very good for playing the drums...Seen these Pumas at Derek Roody's feet too :)
I want that guys as my personal metronome
@HavxHHH I listen to his band all the time and the speeds are sick. You probably didn't understand my comment, with only one foot like he shows it, it isn't so big deal. The real problem comes when you need to do it with both feet perfectly. Then it's close to impossible.
i think this technique only works when using long foot pedal such as AXIS LONGBOARD..
Yes Ddrum pro bass triggers run into a Alesis Dm5
Lucas' mechanical precision is what makes him such a great drummer, but I find that also makes him a bit redundant to listen after a while. I thought the first drummer off unhallowed had the best feel for their sound, I realize that Lucas is more skilled and tight, but feel is what music is about.

He sure would!.

After 10 years, did you manage to get it going??
FUCK YEAH!!
I've been getting a groin problem with heel down lately. Anyone know why that would happen? I have been practicing a lot more lately, that is the only difference. where the hell is canton? didn't know there was guitar center in mi
@NosferatuOfWorms yeah we are pretty kickass like that haha!
I appreciate that you agree with me, lamawesome! I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with something you said, though. Metalheads are NOT above anyone else. They are fair game just like anyone else.
when i get more you get more fyi though were talking about doing some real video of him playing songs soon as in well recorded no bad sound and good angles
there's no "longboard" setting on eliminators
Does he use triggers?
I like that video as well, but I feel it doesn't do him justice. His work with SYL and FF is AMAZING. Well, you're 27, born in 85 (assumed by name), his pedals were made in 85. i wanted to watch the rest :(
@allmetaliswelcome Yeah I can do it with my both feet, but using both feet to do double bass with that technique is impossible.
why didnt they give him a hands free mike it is at guitar center
@AIC96 Flying finger as far as I know. Hope that helps man
I imagine it is! I've listened to SOME death, though, admittedly, not a whole lot (not too into that sound as much as i used to be). I liked nile with Tim Yeung in it. He's pretty boss. I'll check out Dave Haley. :)
Hahaha, I feel the need to help you out. Que quieres saber, brother?
@JOAPY why?
whyd he leave all that remains?
What do i know?, well ive watched his "atomic clock" vid, the pedals he uses are so old, yet do for him what most new ones dont for anyone.
And im 27, coincedance>, i dunno.
@punkinboy100 Wow....calm down bro. I can get my feet going like that too, but, much like SackBoy105, starting it cleanly is hard.
@JOAPY and why would that be?
@SirBaga Yeah i guess so
I agree. Old guitarist was good, but the new lead now is fuckin sick.
Yeah, thats it, you got it ;)
Im using cobras with coil and power glide, upgrading to Speed cobra as i hear its better then all of em
Gavin harrison actually went from Axis to Speed cobras, thats saying something!
Check him out.
hey xballer1989,
do u ever use omegle
I see. BTW, that was a very off-handed comment I made. The guy said he has Shannon's sneakers, and I just made that little comment. It really didn't occur to me whether he was a metalhead or not, nor did I care. I did make a more important comment around the same time.
@thispagesux you should see what pete sandoval of morbid angel plays in. Great satans mustache the boots are giant
yeah i agree about the new guitarist he is a lot better but i think the old guitarist fit the band soo well the new guy just doesn't feel like TBDM
I can play exactly how he does but I just can't get a clean start to beating that fast. :/
we need the hand =\ he's master in the both hands!
@JOAPY because offfff??
i dont drum but i totally know what hes doing with his knee
damn
@Villex93 i can do this blazing fast withmy left foot lol, and i'm right handed
@JOAPY I dont live on the internet....
That's what she said
@xXAlecXxC haha yep thats the conclusion that i came to
and what do you know, gene hoglan's pedals are as old as you are! Coincidence? >:D
fuck how does he move his feet faster then i move my hands?!
I'm surprised at how even he is able to keep it, even with what seems to be more of a twitch motion than anything else.
lmao amazing name.
@meldizzle6 Lawl
Depends on the band as well. Both, great drummers, either way. Shannon's more on the death / tech side, whereas Gene is more trad with some death sprinkles. Jesus christ he's fast
dude what he doesn't use heal to toe thats crazy
@R3dN3cK810 your bad and hes not..?
shannon it´s a fucking robot =O
Plays to a click-track during practice and live. Thats a fucking musician.
thats because he is no george kollias... obvious GK is a beast compared to him... but still anyone that was not a fool would understand... Lucas is amazing at what he does. Plus real musicians dont compare there selfs to other musicians.
@lucci97 need more practice
nevermind I figured it out
Its really easy to go that fast with one foot, but doing it with both at the same time.. no chance.
george kollias would bitch slap lucas for those small beater distances XD
Tim yeung was good, but Kollias made them famous, he is by far the fastest feet on earth.
And yeah get into Haley!.
To Be Continued...... I hate things that end like that and this one didn't even have the decency to end like that so it's even worse... WHY DID YOU HAVE TO END!!!! lol
WRONG. when you get to 240 upwards your strokes get less and less.
i was a bit on that day sorry lol
ya he uses triggers, no one can play that fast on every single song
@JOAPY trolling fucktard say why or fuck off ya dirty fuck
iF you think he is fast, look up George Kollas. :)
because they held him back so he quit
yep. and yes that damn hat haha don't get to close to it it can be smelly
