Zaraki was a monster before he met Unohana Yachiru, it was back then that he realized the fun of finding someone capable of fighting and the bore of killing the weak. He wants to relish the joy of fighting but he doesn't want to kill anybody, however he will not hesitate to kill you if you chase him bc it's a clear sign of throwing away your life thus you will not grow any stronger and will be stuck in the past.
How I wish Ikkaku got the real bankai treatment too like Renji. Bro is so skilled to be that weak and the fact he even had a bankai.. Ikakku if he was stronger would be a cool kenpachi too
i don’t like Nanao. I don’t believe she deserves to be lieutenant and her friendship with the captain bugs me. I would cut her down outside the seireitei the second I get strong enough. no patience for weak trash taking high positions just due to connections. Yamamoto also did not like Nanao btw. He whacked her with his full bloodlust and reiatsu when she dared stand against him. 😂

This was explained in the Soul Society arc. Kenpachi Zaraki had no name, so he gave himself the only name he deemed worthy: Kenpachi. He then just went around calling himself that until eventually joining the Gotei and killing the "official" Kenpachi.
This is exactly why Ikkaku never wants to leave Squad 11.
