I'm an artist and French is the #1 language for artists. It's true. When I was active on Instagram, I noticed that, other than English, the most common language by artists is French. French also has art history, I love Rococo and Art Nouveau, and love French movies. Art is the biggest reason why I picked French. French presented itself to me as the language for me, and I graciously accepted.
The rest of world use their own languages to sing or act. Besides their language they might use english. french will be use by people who talk french

That’s the most French attitude ever.
One last good reason to learn French: it will increase your vocabulary in .... English. It will provide you a better understanding of the sophisticated English of literature and will make you discover some very rare english words that will make you sound smart in an academic essay or in a conversation with King Charles III for instance... 🤣 It will also enable you to recognise the etymology of countless english words of anglo-norman origin.

I'm from Asia and thinking of taking up French as a 4th Language
It's often brought up as a reason to learn French, but if you're planning on visiting francophone countries in Africa you'll be better off also learning a little of the local languages. French was and still is a prestige language imposed on people and most local people speak pidgins/creoles or mix in local words. You'll get a warmer reception in Rwanda speaking a little Kinyarwanda than just French.

Yes but no, the advantage of french is you won't have to learn every local language (kinyarwanda is only speak in rwanda).This is the same idea for learning spanish or english.
Unless you are a polyglot, it is better to master the prestigious languages than the local languages which are often distorted in the form of different dialects.
Sure, in some cases. But if you need to prioritise or choose between one or the other, French offers a clear advantage in terms of coverage, especially as it is transcontinental language in a very real sense.
Even if one endeavored to learn, say, Twi and Yoruba together to an advanced degree, they will still not be able to communicate with nearly as many people from my understanding.
And all of those indigenous languages are massively lacking in resources by comparison (unless you know a native speaker personally and can spend all day conversing with them/pouring over their written notes), and so are perhaps to undertake once already in the country and after reaching some proficiency in French.
@@paul_position50 not fully learn, just learn vital phrases. Mostly only people who've been through Higher education speak clean French in these countries. Like how, Even if you speak English, a little Swahili will go a long way in East Africa
@@nisioisinnerman Anywhere far from the city (or if they haven't gone through secondary education, which is common) you'll be much less likely to find someone who speaks clean French. It's not a catch-all, learn some local phrases in addition to French
Whilst it is true that French is not as hard to learn as some people think, it's a difficult language to maintain. I am French and lived in France for 17 years. I moved to the UK 14 years ago and my French is ridiculously bad. Most of my French friends in the UK are the same and we actually speak English amongst ourselves.
This do not make much sense. Why?
My French sister has been living in the UK for the last 40 years and still speaks perfect French... She does have an accent in English : People ask her from which part of the UK she is.
I'm currently learning French and my French professor is helping me find graduate school in France.
Another small reason is to learn the song “Dan le Vide” if you know, you know.

@@tizgerard_9816 admittedly I used to be really averse to the contours of French whenever I heard it spoken, and even more so for Spanish, but always loved to hear German floating about for as long as I can recall. Seems that's a massive contrast to most people's perception, and is even a bit odd to me seeing as I love Japanese more than any other, which is also quite harmonic and has virtually no consonantal endings at all.
Currently learning French, it's been a challenging but lovely journey. My French bf has been very helpful. 🥰

Another thing for Americans you don't have to cross the ocean to practice your French just come in the province of Quebec in Canada. Don't just stay in Montreal though, most people speak English like in Sweden and they might switch to English in case you try to practice your French with them (us).

Quebec French is very different then French in France. Quebecers understand French, French do not understand Quebecers. This video should specify he is talking all about France, not The French up north of USA.

Oui, ton français est déjà très bon et tu pourras encore l'améliorer si tu lis beaucoup de textes français, surtout des romans populaires, avec beaucoup de dialogues et de vocabulaire familier, courant, le vrai français de la rue. Tu peux aussi écouter sur internet les radios françaises, belges, suisses, québécoises...pour t'habituer à la musique de la langue, mais attention ils parlent vite. Il ne faut pas se décourager si tu ne comprends pas tout, c'est normal. Il faut s'imprégner lentement de la langue. Mit dieser Methode habe ich mein Deutsch verbessert, das ich in der Mittel- und Oberstufe nur schlecht gelernt hatte. Ich lese oft Kriminalromane, mit Kindle ist das ganz einfach, es gibt ein eingebautes Wörterbuch. Ich schaue mir die Tatort-Reihe auch gerne im Internet an (ggf. mit deutschen Untertiteln). Als ich noch aktiv war, hatte ich oft die Gelegenheit, diese Sprache mit deutschen Kunden und Kollegen zu sprechen. Sie schätzen es, wenn man sich die Mühe macht, ihre Muttersprache zu sprechen, anstatt Globish-English, das weder ihre noch meine Sprache ist. Vive la différence! et un petit bonjour de Lorraine. I did well in Spanish in high school, but I did not retain any of it. This was due in part to the school not having other languages. Even though Russian and German are my favorite languages, I would have preferred French over Spanish. Could you do a video on six-figure jobs in language interpreting/translation? I ran into a Forbes article about insane salaries for Portuguese interpreters/translators in New York City, but I did not see any such listings on popular job listing websites for that area.

I recommend The Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF). It gives people the opportunity work in France teaching English to French students. Great way to experience French culture first-hand. :)
Ever heard of frenglish? it’s a way people communicate in Montreal sometimes, very similar to Spanglish

I want to learn French, because I really like Edith Piaf and Mirielle Matthieu, and I'd like to visit France, without pissing off the locals, because I don't speak their language.
But I'm not very good at learning languages, so it'll be a bugger of a job, getting my French up to B2 level :-(
I speak ST Lucian Creole which makes learning French easy

French also people correct other french people’s mistakes 😂. As a french i can tell you that the french language can be “fancy” (for foreigner) but also really informal/harsh but that is cool. Also i find that the the ugliest english accent is the french accent.

I'll be honest, admittedly I've only been to France a few times over the last 25 years but I've experienced negative reactions to being English AND trying to speak French. First was on a school trip to Brittany when a waiter took issue with my broken-French whilst ordering at the bar (I was 18 years old). Then an old market trader was moaning about 'l'anglais' while the group of us were taking an interest in her stall.
Next time it happened was travelling from Barcelona to Paris on the train in 2012. I was sharing the cabin with a French guy who started being really unhelpful the moment he realised I was English. I also had a few issues on the metro when I arrived in Paris. One inspector didn't seem very helpful, until I accidentally started speaking Spanish. Maybe he was just a lot more familiar with Spanish than English. I dunno. Might even have been part-Spanish for all I know. I've been to Spain many times and never once had any issues like this but then I have tried my best to learn Spanish over the years.
It's a shame about my experiences as some of the best people I know are French.
Yeah I'm not convinced either. I'd rather learn Portuguese then Spanish. They are some the nicest people I've ever met and love that you're learning their language.

I presume it is a resumé, but why not use resumé? No one has ever told me?
CV stands for Curriculum Vitae - a Latin term, so it's easier to just say CV. Or stick to resumé! 😅 The only real difference is that some countries prefer one over the other. Resumé is the usual American choice; CV is the usual British choice. Up to you!

Impossible is not something we do in France is ”余の辞書に不可能の文字はない” in Japanese.
It literally means "The word "Impossiblle" isn't in my dictionary".

There are lot of English speaking jobs in France.
If you're a qualified worker in skills that are used by international companies, for example IT, marketing, business, etc., there are a tons of companies who will not care if you don't speak French, because there are quite a few European companies who operate in multiple European countries and who are using English as their main mean of communication.
For example, my own job of software engineer in an French company, I've a quite a few coworkers who aren't French (mainly Spanish, but also from other European countries), and thus we use a lot of English to interface with them.

Seems a little bit odd that a British guy would have the American flag as the flag for English.... now that I think about it I just realized that Olly is British and it feels weird. Sure, France has its attractions but the truth is that it is just not as welcoming to non-native/fluent speakers, as Spain is. If you go to France with limited ability but at least something, and they are still rude or unhelpful then thats not very encouraging and chances are that you will not return, or feel motivated to continue learning the language. There seems to be a deep resentment of the English with some French people. For these reasons France as a country is very much low on the list of places to visit. I would rather go to Spain, Denmark, Holland, Latin America, even Germany which says a lot considering our history.
Well there's Belgium and Switzerland. African countries, Quebec, Carribean, French overseas territories why limit the list to France?

Am not covinced. You never gets much of any appreciation for speaking french. They would only correct you. If you are not going to a country that speaks french. You probally do not need it. The French people should also learn English. French is overrated. I would prefer italy, brazil or spain
Normal latin language speaker here, for me french is an ugly , strange and weird language, i don't know why people are so passionate about this language, yes i know french importance but i still find it very ugly and weird
for Germanic, particularly English speakers probably. We live in an Anglo-dominated world after all it's no surprise placing French to a pedestal seems plausible like back when the Normans ruled England.
