    We use Apologia different than suggested, we follow along with the audio book and they just narrate to me afterwards. Sometimes they will draw something that they learned about, but it’s very gentle. I will say that I think that series is geared toward 4th grade and up. Maybe even 6th and up. It is wonderful though.
    We used Science Shepherd before and loved that. Very easy and quick todo. You watch a 2-5 min video, do a worksheet and then they have hands on experiments that go along with it too. My kids learned a lot and it wasn’t bogging us down. Something to check out maybe?
    Intoxicated on life has an online astronomy course too. I’ve heard it was a good, although I have never tried it.
    For 2nd, you may want to look into The Good And Beautiful science units. They are similar to MFW unit study style. Very easy to incorporate and my kids really enjoyed the units we did. They have book suggestions, but it’s usually only 1 or 2, so not overwhelming at all. Simple science experiments that are actually easy and fun and work! Lol I’d check them out.

      I totally agree! I think Apologia is geared for older kids; I had used it with my big kids in the past, but they were older age at the time. I will have to check out Science Shepherd, thanks! I have steered away from TGAB.

    I really appreciate you taking the time to make this! :) we are trying Berean builders for science next year along with MFW! It goes through science from the beginning & gives a simple lesson + simple experiment with household items every lesson! My son loves experiments so I think he’ll love it! Just thought I’d share!
    Anyway, thanks for being so honest!

      Thanks so much for sharing! My son likes experiments too. I saw MFW replaced their old science curriculum for 4th grade, with Berean Builders Science in the Beginning....I only have the old one, so I need to check out this one!

    Thanks for sharing your experience! Your co-op group sounds really fun! I appreciated all your comments on making the curriculum work for you instead of feeling like you need to be a slave to the curriculum.

    I bought this curriculum to use for my son this fall. I like your suggestion for the devotional to go with it. Nice video!

    How do you start a group like you mention for MFW? What does it consist off?

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems  3 роки тому +1

      Visit the MFW Website, hover over the Community tab at the top, and you will see a drop down menu that shows an option for "Synergy Groups". There it explains how they work, what subjects are covered and shows samples of the guides! :) The first time we ever did one, it was just us and one another family who were friends using the same curriculum cycle. It can be as large or small as you like.

    we are using MFW Adventures in U.S. history this coming Fall. Thank you for the review. Do you have any reviews coming for Math curriculums that you have used other than BJU math? Thank you for sharing!

    I just love your videos!!
    My first is starting kindergarten and I chose to do beautiful feet early American history, answers in Genesis beginner life series, and we already did the good and the beautiful pre k. We could continue for K with THGATB since it’s more inexpensive. But I’m super nervous that I didn’t decide well.
    I REALLY wanted to start MFW in 1st grade, but now I’m afraid he won’t be prepared enough to start the 1st grade program when the time comes. Do you have any advice?

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems  3 роки тому +1

      Hello, I personally do not support THGATB, but I would encourage you to utilize a really good phonics program for Kindergarten, a math workbook, read lots of great books, and make fun memories/adventures together exploring outdoors, nature, art, etc. As long as your child knows how to read basic CVC words, how to write their name and write single words on paper, you can start MFW first :) I have a separate video on the channel with a MFW first grade overview.

    So, we’re you doing both SCM curriculum and MFW together this past year? I saw your separate reviews on both and I’m wondering if you used them at different times or together? They both look amazing and I don’t know how to choose. But I’m very curious when you did these curriculums. Was SCM done all together and then you did MFW us history just with your 2nd grader? Hope my questions make sense!

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems  3 роки тому +1

      No, we did not use SCM & MFW history portions at the same time, but I pick and choose various SCM items as needed throughout our years for different subjects :) I've never done 100% exclusively SCM. MFW is generally more hands on projects/notebooking. SCM is generally more discussion/reading. It depends what you are looking for in this season.

      @@OfficialHomeschoolGems ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the info! This is all really helpful. Both curriculum seem so wonderful.

    I am getting ready to start Adventures and had been wondering if a state a day in the later portions would be to much. Does the history really go with when the state is introduced or would it be fine to start the states right away, week 1 to give more time?

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems  3 роки тому +1

      The history & state studies really do coincide; when we learned about the founding of America in history, we learned about the first state and then it goes along in chronological order. It was an adjustment the first month for my son to go from 1st grade workload to 2nd grade workload, so I probably wouldn't introduce state sheets on top of everything else right away, but you know your child best and what they're able to handle :)

      @@OfficialHomeschoolGems My son is at the end of 1st but we chose a different phonics so have not done MFW. We will just take it very slow and start when they suggest. Thank you!

    Thank you for this review! Do you think a first grader would do well with this curriculum? This will be our first year homeschooling and I will have a 1st and 2nd grader.

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems  3 роки тому +1

      If your first grader is a strong writer, they could do the history and state sheets, tag along to observe science…..but they would still need their own phonics/math/lang portions.
