I remember doing this with my 4 boys when they were younger. I was pregnant at the time and some of the stories I read to them, I chocked up and ended up crying. 😂 The stories really touched my heart. My boys really enjoyed this history curriculum. 🥰 Glad to see your face again.
Hello, I decided to try this with my 3rd grader. Out of all books that are recommended, which ones seemed the most engaging? I used beautiful feet curriculum last year and discovered my daughter looses interest. Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for this review. We decided to purchase this after watching your review. My son will be doing 1st grade next year and he loves learning about the United States through reading so I know this will be a success.
So glad to hear this review because we are using this for American history this fall! I’ll have a 3rd grader, 2nd grader, kindergartener and a 3 year old. I bought a bunch of read alouds to go with it.
We began this last year but stopped around Thanksgiving … we just weren’t feeling engaged with it and then the holidays took over and we just never went back. Does it pick up after the Pilgrims? We love history at our house and I was surprised that we didn’t connect with it.
Hey Janelle! I've been following your videos for a while now, and I'm absolutely loving your updates! Your recent post on homeschool Q&A really resonated with me, and it's incredible how our values align. Just wanted to drop a quick note of appreciation for the fantastic work you're doing. Have a great day! ✨ Are you planning any exciting projects related to what you're doing over the summer?
@@JanelleKnutson I think because my boys and I really bonded over this one, lots of special memories. It was a special time with all of us and haven’t experienced that with any other curriculum.
Wonderful video thank you! My daughter will be in 4th and son in 2nd and I want something for the both of them together. My daughter absolutely hates history- she says bc she was not learning much anything about it at her private school - once of the reasons I decided to home-school. But I have to say I am at a lost at anything history as well. My background is engineering and I'm hopeful this curriculum will work out for us all to love! Do you know if the Timeline is available to print out in a smaller format? I would love to hang it in our home-school room as a whole picture rather than flipping pages of the timeline. Thanks again :)
We did both parts in one year. Even though it is 2 volumes, it does not take long to read through them as the pages are filled with beautiful pictures. You could certainly split it up over two years though.
With the literature guide, does it tell you how much to read? Is it scheduled for day 4? Or is it a daily read aloud? Don’t work to read too much too quick and run out of literature, 🙂
This looks so good, I have a 2nd and 4th grader who’d love this! But I also have a 7th and 8th grader so I’m looking at America the beautiful too. I wanted to do history as a group subject but I’m wondering if it will work with the age ranges and don’t think I can keep up with two history curriculums. Any suggestions?
Is the student book enough to keep a 5th - 6th graders attention? Its designed for 1-4th, but Im wondering if there would be a more advanced option for a 5th 6th grader?
I'm hoping we can do the 50 states curriculum from Notgrass sometime in the future as it looks amazing! But we won't be doing it next year since we covered the 50 states the previous school year.
We loved it too! However, it's the only Notgrass we have truly loved. The others are not as personal and story-based; they read more like traditional textbooks.
That is true. Thank you for pointing that out. The others are less story-like and more like a textbook but my older kids did prefer Notgrass over other history curriculum they’ve done in the past. Have you found an upper grade history curriculum you like? If so, please share as it helps other homeschool moms who read the comments. ☺️
It says it is for 1st-4th grade but I think it would work for a 6th grader as well. You may or may not want to add in additional resources depending on what you hope to get out of the curriculum.
Do you think the additional literature is necessary for the lessons?

I fought back tears through a few lessons too!

Great review, thank you for explaining how you used this curriculum, loved your ideas on fieldtrips at the end of the week!
We loved incorporating field trips!

You’re welcome. Glad the review was helpful! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
great video! i was on the fence but loved your review and helpful flip through! blessings!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video. I have been looking at this curriculum and the Generations history curriculum. Have you used it before?
I have not used the Generations history curriculum yet but I have my eye on all the new curriculum they are putting out!
I did this curriculum with my 3rd grader this year. We really enjoyed it.
Yay! Love hearing other homeschool families experiences with curriculum.
This is what we will be using next year. It looks so fun.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

We loved it!
Are there any read alongs you recommend or lap books that go with this ?

It's pretty consistent throughout the whole curriculum so if it wasn't working for you in the beginning it probably just wasn't a good fit.

I agree OSSS was my boys favorite and mine too! I was super sad when we finished it.
I don’t think I’ve ever been sad to finish up a curriculum before until this one. We loved it. 😊

I bought OSSS for my upcoming fourth grade daughter! I’m hoping she loves it too. ❤
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
We love this history book. We just
Started it a few months ago. It is such a pretty book.
I know! The pictures are wonderful.
Thank you for the wonderful and informative video. How long typically did it take you to get through a lesson?
It varied depending on whether we did an activity, answered the review questions, etc. I’d say most days we spent 20 minutes.
@@JanelleKnutson Great, thank you for your reply. We'll be starting this curriculum soon and are very excited!
This curriculum looks great! Did you do both parts 1 and 2 in one school year or break it up?
We did both parts in one year. Even though it is 2 volumes, it does not take long to read through them as the pages are filled with beautiful pictures. You could certainly split it up over two years though.

I’m in the same boat for next year! 2nd, 4th, and 7th. Did you find a good solution?

We LOVE Notgrass!! The elementary levels are the Best!! We love the art /craft lessons included
We enjoyed the crafts too!
Thank you so much for this review. Is there a schedule. We use a lot of Sonlight so used to a schedule 😄, is there a clear do this, do that each day?
Are you going to do the 50 states curriculum as well?

Yes! We love our new home!

Would this be a good choice for a 6th grader who cant handle overly "wordy" textbooks?

I like this. I do own it.
Maybe you can teach to grandkids one day!
