  • It's car servicing time again! In this video I go through step by step how I service my car. It's a simple DIY task which could save you TIME & MONEY as well as giving you the peace of mind that the job has been done properly. The car featured is a 2015 MK7 Golf 2.0 TDI. The process will be fairly similar for the VW/ AUDI/ SEAT/ SKODA family. Please feel free to use this as a guide for servicing your car.
    STEP 1: CHANGING THE OIL/ OIL FILTER (2.04)
    STEP 2: CHANGING THE AIR FILTER (9:21)
    STEP 3: CHANGING THE FUEL FILTER (10:43)
    Allow the fuel filter to prime for a couple minutes with the ignition on before starting.
    STEP 4: CHANGING THE CABIN FITER (12:28)
    STEP 5: RESETTING THE SERVICE LIGHT (14:00)
    Order a service kit from my amazon shop (affiliate): amzn.to/41quKNU
    Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility for damage caused to yourself or vehicle, this video is meant as a guide only. Be sure to wear the correct PPE when carrying out this maintenance task.

    When you are down to a few drips of old oil, its worth adding a couple of hundred ml of fresh oil to the engine and letting it flush out any remaining old oil from the sump, then when that has finished draining, adding your sump bolt and fresh crush washer.

    Good for you doing your own service. Recommended service is 10000 miles. Although most service techs recommend every 5000 miles. I use a vacuum pump system to remove the oil out of the dip stick. It takes 15 minutes to do an oil change with filter and you don’t have to crawl under the car.

    • @TurnersWorkshop97
      @TurnersWorkshop97  8 місяців тому

      Thanks mate, the oil filter is accessed from underneath the car on this engine so not possible to change from the top as far as I’m aware 😊

    Just stumbled across this - I did mine yesterday. A few comments:
    I tend to service mine every 8k miles, as I’ve seen research that concludes oil additive packs could be starting to deplete at much after this, depending of course on how the car is used / driven. I buy cheap OE parts on eBay as and when they pop up throughout the year so that I don’t have to use aftermarket parts - but I’m a bit strange / OCD like that 😂. I buy VW-approved Mannol 7715 engine oil in 20l cans when there’s a deal on eBay and that does 4 services plus some left for top-ups for under £50 (the car takes 4.5l a time by the way).
    You forgot to mention the T45 torx bits for the three under tray bolts at the rear where they bolt up into the subframe as someone else has mentioned.
    I use cable ties routed around the fan housing to keep the wiring harness / hose that runs under the oil filter out of your way when you’re draining and lowering / offering up the filter and housing.
    If you still aren’t, I would strongly recommend you make use of the filter housing drain plug as it greatly reduces the mess.
    I also clean out the housing before fitting the O rings and new filter, then fill with fresh oil before fitting to minimise the time for the fresh oil to circulate on startup.
    I have replaced my sump plug for a magnetic one that catches any metal particles in the oil - it’s made by a company called Gold Plug.
    You shouldn’t need to replace your air filter every 10k miles - it’s good 20k at least, Volkswagen rate it for up to 38k miles! Use a genuine or good brand name one as some of them are noticeably poor quality.
    I highly recommending changing the gearbox oil while you’re under the car with the under tray off every 60k miles - I use Redline MT-LV (low viscosity) which is vastly superior to the OE oil and makes a noticeable improvement to the gear change, which I always found pretty poor especially when cold when I first got my car. You’ll need a 17mm hex key for both the filler (which you should ensure you can undo first!) and the drain plug itself.
    That cabin filter is a charcoal activated one, that’s why it looks dirty - it isn’t actually - and you’re comparing it to a plain filter without the charcoal. I change mine every 24k miles (every third service).

    We are the happy owners of a 2016 Golf Sportwagen. I do all of my own work except when I lack time or tools, such as a lift. I use a pair of ramps for oil changes. I am surprised and disappointed that you have to remove a belly pan to reach the oil drain plug on the 2017, as I do on my 2001 Passat wagon. With my 2016 Golf, the oil drain plug is readily available without any removal of anything.
    The 2016 gasoline 1.8T's oil filter mounts from the top.

My only question is, I intend on keeping the vehicle till it drops (I love it), it's 5 years old and I understand timing belts are due every 5 years. It's only covered 39,000. Would you recommend a change at such low mileage.....I've always heard timing belts are good for 60,000+. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

    • @TurnersWorkshop97
      @TurnersWorkshop97  Рік тому

      Hi, thanks for your comment. Timing belts should always be changed at the recommended interval regardless of mileage or age it’s whatever comes first. The rubber belt deteriorates with age regardless of mileage and visa versa. I’m the same, love my golf and can see me keeping it until the end. This is also the one maintenance job that I don’t do myself as the consequences of getting it wrong are catastrophic 💸 it’s worth getting it done by a reputable garage making sure they use quality parts. Hope this answers your question 😊

    Nice video mate I am gonna do this myself after seeing how straight forward it is, just one question what torque wrench would you suggest?? If something needs torquing to say 30nm could I use a 1/4 what goes upto 25nm , but then add 5 using the numbers on the torque wrench to make it 30nm if you know what I mean... or do I need to buy like the next wrench up that goes up that has 30nm etccc TIA

    • @TurnersWorkshop97
      @TurnersWorkshop97  Рік тому +1

      Thanks mate, the torque wrench you use should go up to the figure you want to torque it to. If you torque up to 25nm then adjust back to 5nm you will still have only torqued to 25nm. Halfords do a good range of affordable torque wrenches and teng tools is another one. When you do get one make sure you wind it back to zero after every use or else it buggers the spring inside and won’t be accurate. 👍🏼

      @@kevinobrien151 yes but the oil drain is not a 3 mil hole, its a big hole. And also, what makes oil run 3 times faster is unscrewing the oil cap before opening the drain plug, so air can enter, no one does that. If you look at few "professional" oil change videos, they do that for a reason

    • @kevinobrien151
      @kevinobrien151 3 роки тому

      I never said anything about the oil cap, the cap shouldn’t make a big difference if it’s in or off. I’m saying that the oil will run quicker (as it is thinner) out the hole even if it is the same size hole dosent matter. Pour a drop of cold oil and a drop of hot oil down a surface vertically and you’ll see the thin oil runs quicker, as it’s thinner you’d get more oil out.
