This is what makes the podcast so great everyone one of the guests really opens up. They tell their truths and their darkest pain but saying that I felt Laura vandervoort didn't quite open up. I don't know about anyone but I felt like she was guarded not quite revealing anything. I felt Michael was prodding her with each step and even then she revealed nothing like who did you not get on with on the set that cause you to walk out, how was feeling etc,

You’ve described depression so well. Thank you for your comment.♥️ I’ve suffered from extremely debilitating, suicidal depression my entire adult life, and no one understands it because I don’t know a single person that even has any kind of depression. It’s been very lonely and miserable, and the worst part of it is I have no ability whatsoever to feel any kind of joy, nor matter what I do or the circumstances I’m in. I’m basically trapped in a living hell, and the torment is indescribable and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I wish I was never born so I’m not put on earth just to suffer endlessly. It’s not fair…I didn’t ask for this.🥺

As a psych nurse, I absolutely love and salute Alan for talking so openly about his mental health. These are the conversations that need to be normalized in our society. I've worked in psychiatry for 30+ yrs and unfortunately I still see very little movement of the needle regarding stigma. We have to do better and the value of talking with each other about our mental health and care of it is immeasurable. The fact that Alan is using his voice to amplify this message is very much appreciated.
With regard to US healthcare, it's an even larger issue, as we throw billions upon billions into healthcare annually, which would suggest its importance in this country. What's prioritized is actually the money generated from it. The system will remain broken as long as profit continues to be more important than human health in the industry.

THEN II COULDNT STOP AND watched the rest of them ....HE FUC=**ING NAILED IT!

A genuine empathic individual. Really like this guy and am so glad he speaks openly about mental health. The stigma is awful and it is so unfair. No one would say such things about a cancer diagnosis or autoummune condition. People don't treat people with mental health issues with same level of decency and respect. Telling a depressed person to "snap out of it," is insulting and cruel. You wouldn't tell person who has a heart attack to just smile and think happy thoughts. Riduculous. This actor is terrific and I'm watching Reacher now. It's excellent.

Not going to lie....been facing a dark time myself, call it a mid-life crisis with alot of negative events that have occurred with such a lack of motivation.....Alan, your story hit me hard...as I lay in my bed...not wanting to get up...knowing I need to get up, work out and not knowing how. Your story literally gave me a blueprint of small steps to get the he'll up! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It has been over a year of HELL and have no idea what my purpose is right now BUT I know I will look back on this year and tell the story of how I overcame really tough times. Faith is also everything...I truely believe things happen for a reason, even though we might not understand it at the time. I am SO glad that you have found your beautiful purpose for yourself for the world. God Bless you! BTW--sharing this video to my husband of 13 years....I am positive he is bi-polar....your story, mind and personality is so much like him it's insane. He is an open book with no filter, but has a heart of gold 💛. Loved Reacher 1 and had no clue of your life and story...can't wait to see Reacher 2 and all your other films. Your an inspiration, Alan. I totally agree. Why settle for 6-7 seasons if he can and will love to do 10 or more as long as the showrunners stay true to the source material and keep everyone happy in the Reacher production team? Alan is 37 compared to Tom Cruise when he did Mission: Impossible at 34 years old in 1996 and he's doing the seventh film at 59 years old, and Lee Child's first Jack Reacher novel came out in 1997. We all best buckle in for more of Alan's portrayal of Reacher for many years to come.

Many of these issues were things I had to learn about myself along the way, and it’s a hard thing to go through. I’m glad he found help, and it reminded me that I did the right thing ultimately by finding help. I was lucky to have my wife to help me understand what it was that I was feeling, and to help me find better ways to express myself & take care of my mental health. What makes this interview so special is that here is a guy who is on Cloud 9 reveal his inner struggles, his journey to get to where he is today. That is something almost everyone can relate to. Hey Phil. Just wanted to say I hope you’re having better days, and get through whatever comes your way. Do you know why you’re depressed? I was diagnosed with BP about 20 years ago. Once I found out why I was depressed, life got so much better. I’ve been depressed from 12 to my 40s,but I’m doing really well right now with the proper meds. I had to get sober first, but I remembered what “they” did to me. I was violated by multiple people at one time(Gg Roped),and one day it all came rushing back. I was 5, and my trust in a caretaker was broken. I think I shut it out my mind because it was too violent to handle, plus someone I trusted handed me over. I’m so glad everyone that I could remember was dead, but I told my mom and she believed me. That helped a lot,but maybe there’s something you can’t remember. I can’t see myself ever wanting to hurt myself again, but I had a forgiveness process to go through. I’ve been to the highest high, and then down to the lowest low. Over and over, and it wasn’t even my fault. I hope your doing ok,and get better. I’m glad you shared Phil. That helps as well. Good luck buddy. Many blessings and peace ✌️

Watching him in Reacher, I thought , at times, there was this sneaky😃, understated sense of humor, coming from such a big man playing such a bad assed character. Maybe producers were not smart enough to find and offer other roles to him after BMS. Maybe it all worked out. Reacher was waiting for him. That's my story and I'm sticking to it, lol.

Alan was PHENOMENAL in BMS and I am so glad he got such a good role. I read the Lee Child book when I was around 13 on recommendation from my dad and I'm now 25 and I am so glad they did a series that actually does the book justice. Alan pulled it of great and the writing was also superb, I binged it in one sitting. Can't wait for a second season

The way I handle depression, anxiety, and midlife crisisis by being a really good uncle. Having kids makes you feel like you have a purpose in life and it makes dying less scary. Because in the back of your mind you know you’re leaving something behind and you will be missed by family makes it much more satisfying. So when your nephews and your nieces love you to bits and say that you are their hero you know you’re leaving something behind that’s something pure. It makes me feel like a super Saiyan.

While I remember depression since I was 5ish, it tumbled worse after having miscarriages (5+) I'm an only child so O have no biological nieces or nephews. I have cousins with children. One cousin I avoid because her two oldest are the same age my first two children would have been. I use writing to help because it's something I control

I was the fun uncle to my niece. We were like best friends and used to watch shows like Smallville, X-men and Xena together, play video games at home, go to the arcade and explore state parks. It was a great decade long experience, but now that she's in her 20s, she never talks to me. About five years ago, she moved away after finding a female partner online and never even told me. It's sad how people can shut you out. She doesn't talk to her mother either unless she needs a loan. It's super hurtful.

Same man. I was never huge about having kids but its not something you can really compromise in a relationship. So a few years into our marriage, we had our first son. I love my son and adore him and I don't think I could ever live without him. But there are moments where I day dream and wonder living an alternate reality where I stayed single.
Hang in there man. It's perfectly okay to doubt yourself, or think "this isn't where I thought I'd be today". Just remember being a parent doesn't define who you are. It's only a = part of yourself. You don't have to become a perfect person all of a sudden. You're still you. Best of luck!

I just recently watched Reacher. It’s sooo good. Never read the books but I’m positive Alan nailed it. I was hooked episode 1! The pie eating episode made me laugh, here he was trying to eat some pie and cops show up messing up his experience. Idk why that particular shot hooked me but it was epic. Amongst the many episodes that were soooo riveting and captivating. Season 2 is a must.
Thus, his greatness as an actor may I just say his down to earth personality is so surprising. In comparison to his character. I realize actors are not their roles but the difference is sooo evident and that just goes to show how amazing his acting is, he’s amazing. I love how he views life and anxiety, depression all the mundane things we face as regular civilians. Not saying he isn’t, but he’s at an advantage in the acting world and to see him being so human makes you realize they aren’t idols. They are humans. They feel depression, pain, loss and so much more.
The fact Michael has this podcast shows me that he’s more concerned about the human and less about the actor which shows he’s more humane, down to earth himself despite his being ON routine that’s expected. I love both sides to him. His humor is the most attractive trait to me about Michael next to his emotional side. I truly appreciate his existence aside from playing in Smallville and many other wonderful productions. I hope he finds love, maybe even has some kids. He deserves a good woman by his side cause he’s such a great guy!! 😊

Alan is so brave to speak about his struggles with mental health and how his faith impacts his life. I loved hearing his story and what he is doing to keep his life in a semblance of order. Also, I'm not too familiar with his filmography but I loved his portrayal of Raphael in the often maligned 2010s Ninja Turtles films. I’ve been struggling with drug addiction and to hear that even a guy who appears so well put together also has personal demons makes me realize that we all have our personal struggles.
