The fact that Simon can figure out how Jace treats Alec in a few days of knowing them. And Jace can't even see that he is hurting Alec by choosing Clary over Alec and blaming Alec for Clary's stupidity.
It's so sad that he wouldn't snap though, they made him belive that everything they were saying was true and it breaks my heart that he believed he deserved all of that, and he believed everything was his fault, and that he would never be good enough. Alec deserved so much better.

Simon gets kidnapped. * → « Stay here » *Sneak out the Institute. Clary and Simon get kidnapped (again) * → « Give the Cup to the Clave to keep it safe » *Proceed to literally steal the cup * → « Wait for the Clave approval » *Ignore the Clave every signle time, because fuck consequences. * And I get that she's new to this world, but she isn't even trying ! Everytime she's like « I don't care about your rules ! », « I don't care about your stupid necklace ! », « I don't care about your damn politics ! ». We get it, Clary, you only care about yourself. She's not event trying to know this world, her world, to understand it, yet she has no qualms about bossing everyone around to get what she want, and telling people what's right and wrong. And everytime Alec is the one dealing with the fallout. He is the boss, the heir, so of course he's the one being blame, and I hate that no ones realises that ! Ales is Acting Head of the Institute, he has an entire Institute to run and so many Shadowhunters to care about, and Clary either doesn't realise that or she doesn't care. The worst ? Alec still continues to go with them, because he loves his siblings and he has their backs event when they don't have his. The only person who realise what Alec is going through, and why he's doing everything is Magnus. And even he betrayed Alec. And I'm more lenient to Magnus, because while he was clearly interested in Alec, they were not in a relationship yet. But, Izzy, Jace ? They're his siblings, Jace is his Parabatai, yet he chooses Clary over Alec, his brother, his parabatai, the man he grew up with, everytime. Alec deserves the world, but the world doesn't deserves Alec.
I agreee! About the magnus part too. He loved Alec but in the start he also couldn't see it, he was just...like physically attracted. But I loved how later on Magnus was there for him.

He definitely didn't want to go behind Alec's back like that (any more than Alec wanted to hide the info about the Soul Sword), but he had to do what he could to protect his people. Honestly, the mortal instruments should just be destroyed. They've done far more harm than good.

Seriously Jace just acted like a completely and absolutely crazy lunatic once he saw Clary, like he has never saw any girl before... And then blaming Alec for "All" of her stupidity, it's just awful... And frankly I truly believe that Clary was vastly overrated both in the series and the books, I don't like her character even for a second... So glad Alec and Magnus found each other, they both deserved the best and finally they got it... ♥♥
You have no idea how much I agree with you. Clary acts like a spoiled brat and never once thinks about how her actions will impact others. I disliked her character so much. Both in the show and the books. It's so nice to see someone who agrees with me.
I didn't think there was another person that didn't like Clary. I thought I was the only one. She always acted like a kid who wanted to do everything they told her NOT to do, and when she got in trouble it was always Alec's fault.
Clary did a bunch of stupid things, but honestly I don't really think it was her fault, since she was new to the Shadowhunter world. Jace however shouldn't have agreed with all of her stupid ideas, he should have learnt her how to be a good Shadowhunter (like Alec was trying to do), but instead he was just like: "girl is pretty so must be right"

I hate the fact that, despite the fact he wanted nothing to do with helping save Clary's mom, because he didn't trust her and he had no reason to trust her, because he knew the repercussions he'd end up facing when the clave found out -- no one seemed to care or take that into account or didn't care at all because this stranger they met seemed to matter more smh. I realised this the moment I started watching the show. In the first books too Jace treats Alec in much the same way. Which is why I have and will always hate Jace. I love Alec and he deserves better than Jace and sometimes Isabelle too like she literally chose Clary over Alec when he was just looking out for them like seriously??!!

We're looking at someone who has basically been emotionally abused all of his life, who rises above it. So many of the story lines frame it as "Alec makes mistakes, makes amends" without putting it into the context of Why. Or, frankly, demanding the same of other characters in the same degree. Maryse is the only one I can think of who faces her past actions, changes through thoughtful effort, & tries to reconcile with people she's hurt. That's in part because Alec had the courage to reach for something he wanted personally for himself, in spite of everything...Magnus...& it sparked so many repercussions.
You don't realize how much people blame or accuse Alec of things until you watch something like this. Poor Alec, he deserves nothing but love and affection, and of course Magnus. ❤

He and Alec weren't even dating and he acted personally offended that closeted Alec would choose duty and trying to protect his family over Magnus. No, it's not what Magnus wanted and it would have been a mistake for Alec, but Alec didn't OWE Magnus anything at that point and Magnus kind of acted like he did. I feel like a lot of people, and even the show, frame Alec as the one making most of the mistakes in their relationship when Magnus is just as responsible for their fights. A lot of the time it's him having unreasonable expectations of how Alec will emotionally process something, but that's still a fault of Magnus's, not Alec's. Obviously Alec makes mistakes, but he's not the only one making them in the relationship. There's also the fact that even though Alec never found out about it in the show, Magnus betrayed and hurt Alec by helping his siblings steal his stele. At that point, Magnus added himself to basically everyone Alec cared about betraying him all at once. That was a choice Magnus made that he never had to pay the consequences for.
Okay this broke my heart in best way possible. Seeing how everyone’s always been caught up in their own mess and never looked back to see Alec slowly crumbling, seeing how over time they have realised that Alec has been so busy caring for others that he’s not cared enough for himself, seeing them love him like he deserves to be loved, seeing how far he’s come, seeing how he’s faced all the odds and come to be this responsible, amazing, proud man, who loves with everything he has and how everything is finally coming together now for him just is making me so proud of this wonderful man.
This man, this beautiful, beautiful man deserves the entire world. Not the cruel things Jace says to him, not the guilt his parents try to shove into him and definitely not the shits Clary puts him in. Again, he deserves the world. ...and he has Magnus with him, so I guess he already got his world.

I love Magnus. But he's not always right or wise in how he reacts to Alec. He's centuries older, with much more life & relationship experience-he doesn't realize there'll be culture clashes, as well as personal differences? He's never encountered them before from other lovers, over centuries? Once he won Alec, he seemed to stop putting in the effort. Maybe he meant to let Alec set his own comfort level, but it feels a lot like emotional withdrawal to me. Usually, Alec says I love you first, he's always telling Magnus he's beautiful the way he is, doesn't need to change or hide what he feels, initiates kisses, etc. I'd like to see a little more passion from Magnus, & less resigned forgiveness because "you screwed up again, but I'm magnanimous". As for Izzy, he DID notice something was wrong but accepted her word that she was ok. She spends much of her time prying into his emotional life while he defends himself, but she couldn't offer some info on her own? Yeah, it all bugs me!
I didn't like Magnus' reaction when Alec didn't tell him about the soul sword and when Alec asked for a strand of hair. He of all people should've understood how much conflict was there in Alec's head. He was torn between what he wanted to do and what must be done. He was literally told by the authorities to bring the hair strand and he wanted to clear the one he loves so he won't get in trouble but Magnus got mad. And the worst part was, both times Alec came back to apologize too. Like...he came to apologize when it wasn't even his mistakes. In the whole series it's always Alec who apologizes. I really love Magnus, I love both of them. But I just wanted him to love this man more because he deserves it.

And he is lovely, loyal and straightfoward!!! His story-line deserves better, more space even for himself.. but i love Malec!

Remember what Izzy said? Alec talked to Izzy about anything but his personal life, which means he didn't let his problems out that often, bottling things up. And then we have Magnus who confronted him directly and said "when things get crazy don't push me away". He told Alec indirectly that he'll always be there for him and that he'll be the safe place for Alec to talk 😭
This is heart wrenching. Throughout the book and movie it's clear how they treat him. The way he treats himself is a form of self harm and hatred... It's everyone too... But no one noticed.
Alec is the most precious sensible selfless emotional caring, responsible and best shadowhunter in the whole series but still got hurt by almost everyone he loves or care. Alec always had their backs but they turned their backs towards him, literally only magnus was with him and I m so happy that they got their happy ending after going through all the mess created by others..
yknow it’s funny how Alec is the only person there who is not special. Jace and Clary, angelic blood and stuff. Valentine’s experiments. Literally going around meeting angels and getting to make grand wishes and prophesied. Magnus? Eldest Son of a prince of hell and the high warlock, born more powerful. Isabelle? Had that thing with heavenly fire eventually. Simon? Daylighter. Lmao I guess Cassandra Clare really just envisioned him as “the gay one”. In the book, when we see magnus’s pov we realise Alec is just deeply good and kind and compassionate and empathetic and genuine. And also despite being so ordinary, he comes up with the best schemes and plans even for others without any extraordinary power helping. And he literally fought through a nest of multiple kinds of demons while poisoned- all on the roof a moving train snaking through the mountains just to save Magnus in “the red scrolls of magic”. He’s so cool rlly. And I just am in awe of everyone gets a cool extra power and Alec….. he keeps up with every single person on this list without those extra powers. Just being more human and heart working and ordinary. He’s like silver amidst all the gold around him and he saves them and holds them together and leads them. It’s kinda cool.

I hated the way Jace treated Alec as soon as Clary came along. He blamed Alec for Clarys fuck ups. He pretty much forgot that Alec was a person and not just someone at his beck and call. Sometimes both his siblings treated him pretty shodily. Poor Alec. But in the end, he was stronger and wiser then either and had the most healthy and beautiful relationship of either of them. Alec was loyal and devoted to all those he loved and cared for. Loyal to a fault sometimes. Its why he and Magnus are my favourite two chatacters in the show as they were both so brave and selfless and willing to do anything for those they loved and considered family.
Alec is the real victime of shadowhunters , Clary is just a drama queen . But Alec is so precious , everyone is always expecting the best from him , I'm sure it's pretty hard for him . He's just trying to make choices that no one can do because everyone is afraid . He sacrified himself so many times and all he received was pure shit . Notstiles I never really like jace 'character too you know all the the things he said to those who has been a family to him when he was possessed really hurts me cos one will say he was possessed but such words are some of the things he thinks in his heart in the dark and to the walls privately,so when possessed it surfaced,yet alec parents loved him than their own son,feeling he is much better cos he acts without thinking often and it makes it look as if he is the one that knows what he is doing,but when they match physically alec is stronger.He lives overshadowing alec directly or indirectly cos their parents supports it thinking it will humiliate alec enough to do better,and also cos alec is gay which in their world is horror story, poor alec never fight back but accept living in the shadow of everyone ,so there will be no problem.Even as jace is much loved in the family,he still acts like he is on his own above everyone,that irritates me about his character,he acts unthankful even when he is that much loved ,that is why i nevery really care or see much in his character but i also have nothing against his character,just that, i can't feel his character at all. The thing I hate the most is that Jace completely taking all the risks and ignoring his brother for the new idiot redhead, I mean clary is new, she needs to learn things first, but no, she thinks she already knows everything, and why because Jace supports her in everything. Alec has the responsibility for saving his family, but Jace sometimes it's like he doesn't cares, all he sees is 'clary'. Everyone tried to love Jace from the time he came, but this girl came and he's like "oooh, my dad left me, no one loved me, and she made me feel loved and familiar and comfortable". I don't want to be Mean but Alec gives everything to save the people he loves while Jace cares ONLY about clary. There, I said it and I don't regret it.
You know how people say they get chills. I got like a wave of heat and it's like anxiety and dread all over my body after watching this. My heart is racing, my ears are ringing and my skin is tingling because so many of those negative things people said to alec and how they were blaming him for nothing. I experience with alot of negative thoughts so having some of those said by these characters hit on a whole different level. I also empathize with people alot so I feel bad for alec. Like Jace his parabatai, his brother said right to his face he isn't good enough, his mother said how he has humiliated them, Izzy said that she isn't his little sister anymore when he was just trying to protect her, Magnus breaks up with Alec after saying he loves him and how alec is pulling him back. Alec didn't deserve so much shit being thrown at him but it also made him stronger and if I weren't lazy I'd probably write some psychological stuff.
Yeah I did low key got tired of everyone blaming Alec whenever anything went wrong, especially when Clary was being dumb bum at the beginning. Kind of feel like only one thing lacking in the show was connection between Parabatai, it was only like really mentioned couple times as something affecting both people.

I adore Alec. He and Magnus are easily the best characters in the whole-ass series. I love Simon and Izzy, but even they don't hold a candle to our Malec. Jace and Clary aren't even on the radar for me, for all that they're the "leads."

Isabelle Lightwood03 you will enjoy it I’d say. If you enjoy Malec you should definitely read born to endless night from the shadowhunter academy novellas and the ghost of the shadow market. I personally enjoyed the dark artifices because of one of the relationships which is a polyamorys one which I had never seen before. It’s actually really cute.
I always felt that Alec was mistreated because he followed the rules. he was the obedient son, the trustworthy one and everyone got angry with him. but he proved his worth. he was always my favorite character. I love him. These scenes break my heart. a misunderstood 💔🤧🤗

And frankly I truly believe that Clary was vastly overrated both in the series and the books, I don't like her character even for a second...

You have no idea how much I agree with you. Clary acts like a spoiled brat and never once thinks about how her actions will impact others. I disliked her character so much. Both in the show and the books. It's so nice to see someone who agrees with me.
I didn't think there was another person that didn't like Clary. I thought I was the only one. She always acted like a kid who wanted to do everything they told her NOT to do, and when she got in trouble it was always Alec's fault.
Clary did a bunch of stupid things, but honestly I don't really think it was her fault, since she was new to the Shadowhunter world. Jace however shouldn't have agreed with all of her stupid ideas, he should have learnt her how to be a good Shadowhunter (like Alec was trying to do), but instead he was just like: "girl is pretty so must be right"

I hate the fact that, despite the fact he wanted nothing to do with helping save Clary's mom, because he didn't trust her and he had no reason to trust her, because he knew the repercussions he'd end up facing when the clave found out -- no one seemed to care or take that into account or didn't care at all because this stranger they met seemed to matter more smh. Alec deserves better.
I realised this the moment I started watching the show. In the first books too Jace treats Alec in much the same way. Which is why I have and will always hate Jace. I love Alec and he deserves better than Jace and sometimes Isabelle too like she literally chose Clary over Alec when he was just looking out for them like seriously??!!

@@clionaodriscoll552 ion know bout all that,,, although in the books she was far more favorable towards her brother, she still showed a slight tendency to blame him, especially in the later books. it came full circle eventually, but he did everything for his family (it's not to say he didn't also make mistakes, though)
We're looking at someone who has basically been emotionally abused all of his life, who rises above it. So many of the story lines frame it as "Alec makes mistakes, makes amends" without putting it into the context of Why. Or, frankly, demanding the same of other characters in the same degree. Maryse is the only one I can think of who faces her past actions, changes through thoughtful effort, & tries to reconcile with people she's hurt. That's in part because Alec had the courage to reach for something he wanted personally for himself, in spite of everything...Magnus...& it sparked so many repercussions.
You don't realize how much people blame or accuse Alec of things until you watch something like this. Poor Alec, he deserves nothing but love and affection, and of course Magnus. ❤

@@julielikesunicorns348 I don't know, I think Magnus's emotional reactions were kind of unfair to Alec. He and Alec weren't even dating and he acted personally offended that closeted Alec would choose duty and trying to protect his family over Magnus. No, it's not what Magnus wanted and it would have been a mistake for Alec, but Alec didn't OWE Magnus anything at that point and Magnus kind of acted like he did. I feel like a lot of people, and even the show, frame Alec as the one making most of the mistakes in their relationship when Magnus is just as responsible for their fights. A lot of the time it's him having unreasonable expectations of how Alec will emotionally process something, but that's still a fault of Magnus's, not Alec's. Obviously Alec makes mistakes, but he's not the only one making them in the relationship.
There's also the fact that even though Alec never found out about it in the show, Magnus betrayed and hurt Alec by helping his siblings steal his stele. At that point, Magnus added himself to basically everyone Alec cared about betraying him all at once. That was a choice Magnus made that he never had to pay the consequences for.
Okay this broke my heart in best way possible. Seeing how everyone’s always been caught up in their own mess and never looked back to see Alec slowly crumbling, seeing how over time they have realised that Alec has been so busy caring for others that he’s not cared enough for himself, seeing them love him like he deserves to be loved, seeing how far he’s come, seeing how he’s faced all the odds and come to be this responsible, amazing, proud man, who loves with everything he has and how everything is finally coming together now for him just is making me so proud of this wonderful man.
This man, this beautiful, beautiful man deserves the entire world. Not the cruel things Jace says to him, not the guilt his parents try to shove into him and definitely not the shits Clary puts him in. Again, he deserves the world.

I love Magnus. But he's not always right or wise in how he reacts to Alec. He's centuries older, with much more life & relationship experience-he doesn't realize there'll be culture clashes, as well as personal differences? He's never encountered them before from other lovers, over centuries? Once he won Alec, he seemed to stop putting in the effort. Maybe he meant to let Alec set his own comfort level, but it feels a lot like emotional withdrawal to me. Usually, Alec says I love you first, he's always telling Magnus he's beautiful the way he is, doesn't need to change or hide what he feels, initiates kisses, etc. I'd like to see a little more passion from Magnus, & less resigned forgiveness because "you screwed up again, but I'm magnanimous". As for Izzy, he DID notice something was wrong but accepted her word that she was ok. She spends much of her time prying into his emotional life while he defends himself, but she couldn't offer some info on her own? Yeah, it all bugs me!
I didn't like Magnus' reaction when Alec didn't tell him about the soul sword and when Alec asked for a strand of hair.
He of all people should've understood how much conflict was there in Alec's head. He was torn between what he wanted to do and what must be done. He was literally told by the authorities to bring the hair strand and he wanted to clear the one he loves so he won't get in trouble but Magnus got mad.
And the worst part was, both times Alec came back to apologize too. Like...he came to apologize when it wasn't even his mistakes. In the whole series it's always Alec who apologizes. I really love Magnus, I love both of them. But I just wanted him to love this man more because he deserves it.

Remember what Izzy said? Alec talked to Izzy about anything but his personal life, which means he didn't let his problems out that often, bottling things up. And then we have Magnus who confronted him directly and said "when things get crazy don't push me away". He told Alec indirectly that he'll always be there for him and that he'll be the safe place for Alec to talk 😭

Alec is the most precious sensible selfless emotional caring, responsible and best shadowhunter in the whole series but still got hurt by almost everyone he loves or care. Alec always had their backs but they turned their backs towards him, literally only magnus was with him and I m so happy that they got their happy ending after going through all the mess created by others..
yknow it’s funny how Alec is the only person there who is not special. Jace and Clary, angelic blood and stuff. Valentine’s experiments. Literally going around meeting angels and getting to make grand wishes and prophesied. Magnus? Eldest Son of a prince of hell and the high warlock, born more powerful. Isabelle? Had that thing with heavenly fire eventually. Simon? Daylighter. Lmao I guess Cassandra Clare really just envisioned him as “the gay one”.
In the book, when we see magnus’s pov we realise Alec is just deeply good and kind and compassionate and empathetic and genuine. And also despite being so ordinary, he comes up with the best schemes and plans even for others without any extraordinary power helping. And he literally fought through a nest of multiple kinds of demons while poisoned- all on the roof a moving train snaking through the mountains just to save Magnus in “the red scrolls of magic”. He’s so cool rlly.
And I just am in awe of everyone gets a cool extra power and Alec….. he keeps up with every single person on this list without those extra powers. Just being more human and heart working and ordinary. He’s like silver amidst all the gold around him and he saves them and holds them together and leads them. It’s kinda cool.

I hated the way Jace treated Alec as soon as Clary came along. He blamed Alec for Clarys fuck ups. He pretty much forgot that Alec was a person and not just someone at his beck and call.
Sometimes both his siblings treated him pretty shodily.
Poor Alec.
But in the end, he was stronger and wiser then either and had the most healthy and beautiful relationship of either of them. Alec was loyal and devoted to all those he loved and cared for. Loyal to a fault sometimes.
Its why he and Magnus are my favourite two chatacters in the show as they were both so brave and selfless and willing to do anything for those they loved and considered family.
Alec is the real victime of shadowhunters , Clary is just a drama queen . But Alec is so precious , everyone is always expecting the best from him , I'm sure it's pretty hard for him . He's just trying to make choices that no one can do because everyone is afraid . He sacrified himself so many times and all he received was pure shit . Jace , Maryse , Izzy , Clary , Magnus , everyone . Everyone hurts him everytime by telling him things that he don't deserves to heard .

His parents especially his mother treats him wrong always chooses jace he is the golden star boy while Alec is left in the shadows and I love Izzy but Alec tried to help her and she wouldn’t help him and jace literally would choose clary over his own parabatai which is wrong since he grew up with him and how Alec felt really bad for killing Jocelyn it wasn’t his fault he deserved better I am so glad he got the love he deserved and people who cared about him in the end

Notstiles I never really like jace 'character too you know all the the things he said to those who has been a family to him when he was possessed really hurts me cos one will say he was possessed but such words are some of the things he thinks in his heart in the dark and to the walls privately,so when possessed it surfaced,yet alec parents loved him than their own son,feeling he is much better cos he acts without thinking often and it makes it look as if he is the one that knows what he is doing,but when they match physically alec is stronger.He lives overshadowing alec directly or indirectly cos their parents supports it thinking it will humiliate alec enough to do better,and also cos alec is gay which in their world is horror story, poor alec never fight back but accept living in the shadow of everyone ,so there will be no problem.Even as jace is much loved in the family,he still acts like he is on his own above everyone,that irritates me about his character,he acts unthankful even when he is that much loved ,that is why i nevery really care or see much in his character but i also have nothing against his character,just that, i can't feel his character at all. Cassandra created their character ,i mean him and clary to be the centre of attention in the book but people know better ,they know where their heart is and what they connect to ,i for one it will always be malec and after them others follows, cassandra wants something in the line of twilight , two characters that people will love unconditionally but it goes the other way.It is like when they dipict every character with a white person i n our world and even me as a white person am tired of it cos people wants after a long time to see something different,and in this case and time ,that is what people chose ,something different from what we use to see and accept as the real thing ,but people understand now that difference matters and something good and beautiful can come from any person irrespective of his looks ,where he is comming from and so on and malec seems to offer that to people and that is why so many people are connected to their character cos they are so real to them.

The thing I hate the most is that Jace completely taking all the risks and ignoring his brother for the new idiot redhead, I mean clary is new, she needs to learn things first, but no, she thinks she already knows everything, and why because Jace supports her in everything. Alec has the responsibility for saving his family, but Jace sometimes it's like he doesn't cares, all he sees is 'clary'. Everyone tried to love Jace from the time he came, but this girl came and he's like "oooh, my dad left me, no one loved me, and she made me feel loved and familiar and comfortable". I don't want to be Mean but Alec gives everything to save the people he loves while Jace cares ONLY about clary. There, I said it and I don't regret it.
You know how people say they get chills. I got like a wave of heat and it's like anxiety and dread all over my body after watching this. My heart is racing, my ears are ringing and my skin is tingling because so many of those negative things people said to alec and how they were blaming him for nothing. I experience with alot of negative thoughts so having some of those said by these characters hit on a whole different level. I also empathize with people alot so I feel bad for alec. Like Jace his parabatai, his brother said right to his face he isn't good enough, his mother said how he has humiliated them, Izzy said that she isn't his little sister anymore when he was just trying to protect her, Magnus breaks up with Alec after saying he loves him and how alec is pulling him back. Alec didn't deserve so much shit being thrown at him but it also made him stronger and if I weren't lazy I'd probably write some psychological stuff.
The best character on the show. I am glad they eventually lightened up but he didn’t deserve that kind of treatment.

Yeah I did low key got tired of everyone blaming Alec whenever anything went wrong, especially when Clary was being dumb bum at the beginning.
Kind of feel like only one thing lacking in the show was connection between Parabatai, it was only like really mentioned couple times as something affecting both people.
I really like it when the characters I love are miserable cus I know that the author will always make up for it later on.

I adore Alec. He and Magnus are easily the best characters in the whole-ass series. I love Simon and Izzy, but even they don't hold a candle to our Malec. Jace and Clary aren't even on the radar for me, for all that they're the "leads."
