    Never thought about the differences you pointed out about the bases of FCS and futures. In futures all the way but that makes it even more for me

    in the 90s i was still in glass ins and blowing fins was like 90 dollars to repair also the town i live in was one of the last places in new zealand to produce glass in fins used to buy them in a t set so the fin would sit flat when resetting them

    The Christmas tree is a nice touch to the Shralp HQ lol. I like the mix of surf footage and education on these videos, it makes it still worthwhile to watch even if you may already know the education part.

    It's very common to find cracks in the corners of FCS fin plugs. That's part of why I went Futures.

      Yeah I feel like the futures may have some advantages in the strength department

    Soooo true. I always wondered why modern boards with fin systems “felt” different. My 90s boards feel much more responsive and the feedback is uncanny. Thanks for the vid. I thought I was imagining things but this solidifies what I thought about my old school glass on’s

    on the base of the fin you add a small feather of glass and let it set so the fins stand a little easyer untull you get the tape on

    One benefit I've heard people mention for FCS is that there is less interference on tail flex, wich feels better specially for boards with 4 or 5 fin boxes. I'd still probably switch to Futures if it wasn't for their poor availability where I live.

    • @used_surf
      @used_surf  Рік тому +2

      Yeah I can totally see where that would come into play especially with the five box set up. Since the box or the flange is longer than the actual fin they can kind of overlap lengthwise when you do five boxes. So there's this theory that it can kill some of the flex on the tail with that particular scenario. Where the FCS is a shorter box than the fin so they don't overlap length wise with the 5 box set up

    the only real similarities between those boards are the channels and construction. Be good if you got a fin template off the glass ons and compared it to the other board, Also talking about the flex difference in the fins could give some more insights.

    Never heard of the 'stress' factor of FCS fins breaking or being a factor.
    Definitely don't travel with glassed on fins. The airlines will do a number on them.

    ITS ALL ABOUT $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !
    Surfboard manufacturers have people called 'sanders' . They get paid by 'piece rates' . If you lined up 5 boards with plugs and 5 boards with 'glass-ons' , they're going to walk straight pas the 'glass-ons' and do the plug boards .
    Then you have the surf shops . Do you reckon they would be happy if you took out FCS/Futures fin sets for $130 . They take up no shelf space and are high turnover items .
    There is way more to say about the physics but anyway you look at it , removeable fins are here to stay .
