  • On a cold December night in the mountains of Afghanistan, Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Edward C. Byers Jr. and a team of SEALs embarked on a dangerous mission to rescue an American hostage held by the Taliban. Byers went above and beyond the call of duty that evening, saving the life of the hostage, and earning the Medal of Honor. In this video, Byers shares the story of that evening, as well as his reaction to finding out he earned the Medal of Honor. (U.S. Navy video/RELEASED.)

      Roger Clemons that's a HUGE negative on that peace-thing buddy. Besides the oh-so common tribal clashes, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan during the Cold War.

      Roger Clemons oh, and let's not forget the various Israeli/Palestinian conflicts there as well. During the Cold War Era, in summary, the Middle East was no exception.

    I don't often comment on-line, but this video had an impact on me. It has always been my experience that the toughest, most bad-ass operators in the US Armed Services are always humble professionals like Mr. Byers. I think it is a combination of the even temper one needs to engage calmly in the type of terrifying feats that people like this man are required to accomplish and a total lack of a need to brag about anything. Congrats and RIP to your fallen brother.

      +Roger Clemons This coming from a poor pathetic little man who in an earlier post claimed to have saved "100's of lives"... A man who directs all the attention to his Shipmates, and another who holds his hand high in the air saying "look at me" and spews negative comments. One deserves honor and the other... Well, not so much.

      ThePaddybuffalo agree. These type of men are impossibly humble on the outside but ironically are so incredibly self confident which to even be a seal let alone a DEVGRU (team 6) operator you need that. These guys don’t need to say a damn thing or be told by anyone anything. They know what and who they are and we all should be thankful men like Ed and his brothers beside him are serving for us and never lose thanks for it.

      +Roger Clemons There is no doubt that this happened and I will not debate you on it. I mean how can I, as it is true. But this SEAL didn't do that and my thoughts are with his work and what he stands for to this Country. But what should be done about the other? I am not in a position of power to change this fact but if I was, it might have allowed it too. See, cutting off the farming culture (regardless of what part of the world we are in) and taking away their source of income (even though it can be used to manufacture drugs) is not our issue there. We were there to help combat the Taliban and allow these people to conduct a democratic government. It's their country and that role of what they need to do is up to their government to decide for itself along with what was right or wrong. If they condone it then we have to support it. Right or wrong, we aren't there to change their culture but to combat the dictatorship that surrounds their chance in a free society.
      Are we good now or is there something you and I need to discuss? My suggestion to you while you read issues surrounding our military is to try and find some common sense in what you've read and why things happen the way they do before you jump on your liberal bandwagon.

    Leave it to s SEAL to still remain humble. Although I hate to break it to you Senior Chief.. You are a true American Hero.....

    • @scottmoore3641
      @scottmoore3641 8 років тому

      What? Go into hostile countries navigate thru a mine field of IED's to then encounter 100's of armed men who hate you carrying mid to high caliber weapons including standard and rocket propelled grenades. Find the hostage you've never met before, throw yourself on top of them (human shield)? Ya... I doubt you can even find a SWAT video game that equals this. And by no means to I intend to belittle Cops (especially SWAT), as a high percentage of them are prior service as well... Your comparison is Apples/Oranges in an attempt to belittle this Medal of Honor recipient... Keyboard Cowboys... smh

    • @scottmoore3641
      @scottmoore3641 8 років тому

      What does any of that have to do with the actions of this Senior Chief you are trying so desperately to belittle? And please don't get me started about the media or story spinners.. There is plenty of that going on anyplace there is room for fabrication. It has nothing to do with this. Remember who blew that fabrication open. The innocent military member "Jessica Lynch". Now back on point.. So in this case, when the actual service member recalls the events, all the while down playing his role, maybe you should listen. I think you will find the majority of active duty and retired military members despise the games and political BS as much if not more than civilians....

    • @scottmoore3641
      @scottmoore3641 8 років тому

      Even using your own reference (Jessica Lynch) who refused to "suck it up" and go with a lie.. I guess she would have been doing it for that poverty level E-2 pay? You have gone from be completely uninformed to just plain ignorant.. If you can't stand behind our Military, please feel free to stand in front of them.

    • @scottmoore3641
      @scottmoore3641 8 років тому

      So you don't have a thought or experience of your own, just the Google search tool or what you've read in books. No even a good cherry picker using Jessica Lynch as an example. Now you are going to use a General to compare next to an Enlisted SEAL? I dispel you SWAT comparison, then your Jessica Lynch comment, so now you've replaced them with a snippet from a General who died over 70 years ago? smh

Nick killed the first rat than entered probably killed another rat or two while Mike is fumbling with his night vision and probably took a bullet for his Bro , and no MOH for Nick ? Maybe I’m not hearing this story right or he’s leaving something out ? And again I’m not belittling what he did at all ! I’m just pissed Nick wasn’t awarded the MOH and I’m sure his family is to . RIP Nick God bless, and God bless all are Men and Woman in arms . 🙏🏻🇺🇸

    There are men too superior to be seen except by the few, as there are notes too high for the scale of most ears. Ralph Waldo Emerson said that...
    For every ten people you find clipping at the leaves of evil, you're lucky to find one who's hacking at the roots. Henry David Thoreau said that...
    These are the Men Whose Committment Reflect Thru Duty, and Sacrifice...
    The Very Actions of the Author of Sacrifice Himself...
    this bag of blood servant of the I AM THAT I AM and the HE IS WHO THEY BOTH SAY HE IS... said that.
