Wow, didn’t realize you were gonna fav the intake. Very impressive. Sorry to hear this series isn’t getting great views because I’ve been so excited for every new video! This is such a cool project. One of your best!
Ive welded a couple of Aluminum parts so far with pulse MIG and my tricks to get the TIG finish are: Using AlSi5 type welding wire, rather than AlMg5 type wire (4Roller wire feed recommendet) it flows much smoother than wire with magnesium. Degrease and pre heat the surface with a quick blast of the blow torch, the start of the bead should be a little hotter than the rest and the bead will have an even cross section. Use a cylindrical gas nozzle for your MIG gun, this will help to cool the bead and create less soot on the edges, of course the gas should at least be 99% Argon.
A tip for weld prep on aluminum….if it’s not a cosmetic piece, cross cut the metal to clean it…basically just running a burr/rotary file lightly across the alum. Aluminum is so soft, even the grinding wheels specifically for aluminum will impregnate the metal with impurities
Good work young man ! Coming from a older fellow motorhead . Please take care of yourself !!! Wish I had been more careful now that I'm older and was safer working and playing . Take care young man.
Probably telling you something you know but use acetone or lacquer thinner to clean the surface then use a dedicated stainless steel wire brush to further clean the surface. There are chemical cleaners for aluminum welding that will help with contamination issues also.
Oh damn. That thing is traking some crazy good shape. Cannot wait to see it preform n water. Also,i'm regular Giraffe's viewer. I'd be freaking awesome if you had a chance to hit some waters with him and the jet boat squad!
I think it's funny that so many are wondering why several people are building boats in Summer.Gee...?I don't see people tuning their snowmobiles lately,do you?(yes,of course there's those engines on carts). You do what You can do,with the parts You can get Vasily.(I've waited 4 months for an engine kit,so haven't posted at all because it'd just be another ride with the same everything).I,along with the Other 300 Thousand, will be happy to watch whatever You decide to post, and be thankful for it.
Great video 👌 Tig welding downhill is a surprisingly easy and efficient way to fill a gap. Just remember, tig welding is like 70% prep, 20% experience and 10% technique. That and you can "flash" the area of the work piece your welding on (heat it up with the arc, no rod. Not sure proper nomenclature) to remove impurities that seep into pores, it also works good with tig welding cast metals due to impurities in the casting process like with heads, blocks and cases 👍
Dude really good job, I mean I thought you were gonna just buy the full jet drive and here you are building your own intake very nice work I hope to be on your level one day
Not a huge fan of jet boat content, but I’m watching it anyways! Your projects turn out bad ass and I really enjoy watching them progress. Keep up the good work brother.
Love it, you are doing some very cool stuff. I just want to offer one suggestion. Spend some time and build alignment jigs, and methods to hold your pieces in place while welding. something as simple as a plywood jig, could have saved you a lot of work.
Acetone is your friend with contaminated aluminum... Scrub and wipe down thoroughly after having to use any lubricant. I even wipe my rods down. It makes a difference.
As I was watching this video, you held up a can of some sort of cleaner and I remembered something from my days as safety coordinator for a company I worked for. Be extremely careful on what cleaners you use when MIG/TIG welding. Some of these cleaners react with the welding process and off gas very harmful fumes that can cause permanent lung damage. Brake Kleen I think is one of the sprays you don't want to use when welding. Check your MSDS on all of your shop products for the warnings. Hope this helps. God bless and stay well.
Great comment! I have learned my 62 years here in life that I NEVER learn anything from what I do right, but ALWAYS have the opportunity to learn from anything I do wrong. Embrace the mistakes as part of the perfecting process. As Always, May God Bless you and yours!

Acetone or isopropyl alcohol should remove all residues if used well and wiped off. The alloy you're working with is roll forged so not porous like a cast or sintered metal Was nice of your friend you let you copy his! What was wrong with your first one? It looked great
I've watched boosted boiz, Cleetus and grind hard build Jet boats. Your build IS cool. You just need to focus on what sets your boat apart. Nobody on UA-cam has crossed the 400HP Mark in a mini jet boat build. Focus on the power plant. Also, building your own jet drive with superior performance? That sets your build apart. Unfortunately these boats take a ton of time. Viewers all are clamoring for the first ride video.
It's looking good dude. It will be bad-a$$ when it's done. It is so much more difficult to hand fabricate this stuff as you do. ANYONE can buy sh!t and put it together, big deal. You are doing it the cool way. Thanks for posting your content!
Slow your blade speed down, go to as little a tooth count as you can get, and the key to cutting aluminum is slow down, and when you think you're slow enough, slow down until you don't have any aluminum build up on your cutting blades. Then you can eliminate any need for lubrication completely, and if you do start to get some build up on your blades. Same as with stainless steel, have dedicated brushes for each of these, and separate ones for carbon steel, and never cross contaminat one of your brushes on the other materials. Same thing for blades, as this too contaminates the others, and you'll find yourself struggling to make clean welds every time if you don't follow this simple discipline. Just get yourself some plastic containers large enough to hold whatever you need to maintain this, preferably that have decent seal on the lids foe each so that you don't get any shavings, or minute fragments from one to the other by grinding fragments being built up on top of your storage containers. Be sure to label them accordingly so as not to accidentally pick up the wrong container when you're in a hurry, are distracted by whatever it may be. This goes for your filler rods, your tungsten, and be sure to use air hose to blow amy particles from your gloves clothes, hoses, cups and other cross use equipment you have no choice in using as far as torch heads and the like. Best advice that I know to follow in keeping your cross contamination down to minimum, and make your welds they're best, and life somewhat drama free as far as your welding goes

I wish I could do stuff like you I have a car I need to make some frame rails for you are the best
For next time you could torch the aluminum until it stops smoking. That should help with the contamination, also acetone
I use a product called tap magic. Works wonders for cutting aluminum and haven’t had any issues with it contaminating welds.
Hey man I know you’re close to North Carolina if not in North Carolina. I’d love to come see some of your stuff and chill.
get a wax lubricant from your local welding supply. they sell it in a tube and it does not contaminate the aluminum
use soapy water as cutting lube. extra hand with spray bottle.dishsoap and water.keep it flooded does the trick
instead of liquid wrench as a lubricant use straight water . works for me
I always just use water for lube on aluminum when cutting and drilling
