- केराटोकोनस कॉर्निया की संभावित रूप से अंधा कर देने वाली दुर्लभ बीमारी है। केराटोकोनस में कॉर्निया धीरे-धीरे मोटाई खो देता है और अत्यधिक अनियमित हो जाता है। इन बदलावों के कारण चश्मे के नंबर में तेजी से बदलाव होता है और कई बार चश्मा भी अच्छी दृष्टि नहीं दे पाता है।
यदि शीघ्र पता लगा लिया जाए और उचित उपचार दिया जाए तो केराटोकोनस के कारण होने वाली दृष्टि हानि को रोका जा सकता है।
सी3आर (C3R) या सीएक्सएल (CXL) प्रक्रिया में राइबोफ्लेविन डाई पराबैंगनी किरणों का उपयोग करके केराटोकोनस कॉर्निया को मजबूत बनाना शामिल है। हालांकि सीएक्सएल (CXL) एकमात्र प्रक्रिया है जो केराटोकोनस की प्रगति को रोकती है, लेकिन यह रोगी को कोई दृष्टि लाभ प्रदान करने में असमर्थ है। एक अन्य प्रक्रिया टोपोगाइडेड फोटो रिफ्रैक्टिव केराटेक्टॉमी (टीपीआरके TPRK) में पहले एक्साइमर लेजर का उपयोग करके कॉर्निया को नियमित किया जाता है और फिर ऊपर बताए अनुसार सी3आर (CXL) करके उस कामगार को मजबूत बनाया जाता है। टीपीआरके (TPRK) के साथ सीएक्सएल (CXL) से दृष्टि लाभ और बेहतर परिणाम मिलते हैं।

Keratoconus is a potentially blinding rare disease of the cornea. In Keratoconus the cornea looses thickness progressively and becomes highly irregular. These changes lead to rapid change in spectacle number and at times the spectacles are also not able to give good vision.
Vision loss due to Keratoconus can be prevented if early detection is made and appropriate treatment given.
C3R or CXL procedure involves making the keratoconus cornea stronger by using riboflavin dye Ultraviolet rays. Though CXL is the only procedure that an halt the progression of keratoconus, it is unable to provide any vision gain to the patient. Another procedure Topoguided Photo refractive keratectomy (TPRK) first regularises the cornea by using excimer laser and then that workmen is made stronger by doing C3R as described above. TPRK with CXL leads to vision gain and better outcomes.

It can be cured but with age the glands do get affected and relevant action can be taken at that time. If your glands are ok now continue with normal routine

11 yr mein chances failure ke tabhi hote hain agar bacchon ki eyes mein mein allergy, inflammation rehti hai. Also, agar advanced keratoconus hai tab bhi ye progress kar sakta hai. Bina dekhe progression ka karan batana mushkil hai.

C3R only stops the progression and doesn't give vision. Scleral lenses are required for good vision in moderate to advanced Keratoconus.
