The sounds are all them...this was their first Grammy winner. Their is a video out their that is Daft Punk private performance. Back in the beginning when they were broke and won the Sing-Off, and then they all moved to L.A. and then the record company dropped them thinking acapella wasn’t a money maker (stupid move!), to save money Avi and Kevin shared an apartment. You can only imagine how their evenings were spent working out the percussion/base for their songs. They were on the same wavelength and they were both so in sync with each other they couldn’t help but be outstanding.
Love Again is an original they recorded about the same time with the same vibe. There is a backstage interview where they sing it live close up, very impressive
Daft Punk was an EDM group, mostly French House style. Supposedly French guys, but always wore large motorcycle helmets or something like that. Recently retired with a flamboyant (I said French, right?) explosion video. Something like 20 years of ground breaking EDM work. This is 7 of their songs in a cool DJ mix style medley.
YESSSS. We all knew you were going to react like this. Props for calling out Avi and Mitch by name. I'm not good with names, either but this group has earned the memorizing I had to do in the beginning. They're so personable. Once they brought Avi and Kevin on to fill out the group, it was literally like magic. One of their STRENGTHS is their differences. It is obvious that this performance took an extraordinary amount of work on their part to make it what it is. It's actually a collection of various songs (a medley) by the group "Daft Punk", which you seem to have recognized in part. The attention to detail that they put into their craft is absolutely mind-boggling and two huge reasons for that is because they love each other and they love music. They study it. Happy New Year! You should think about doing the Sing Off performances (aka: PTX Origins). Exactly! Both groups excel. Unfortunately for those that have closed their minds, their focus has only diminished the musical journey they could have experienced. I include Voice Play in my A Capella triumvirate. Each group fills a niche, not really competing with, but complimenting, each other.
This song really melts your mind. It shows off just how crazy awesome they are. Another great one to check out is their Evolution of Michael Jackson video.

Believe it or not, they recorded this in, I believe 2013 for $400 in a closet, Incredible. So sorry to miss Bohemian Rap. I would have loved to watch you see that for the first time, Great reaction.
I'm more of a Home Fry than a Pentaholic, but this is one of my favourites of theirs - it's so well done. At their level, it really isn't about who's better, it's all about personal taste in music and in style. And the awesome video made by FifGen films - they made videos for PTX, Home Free and Peter Hollens, among others. One of them, Jimmy Bates, is still filming and editing for both groups. the other two, Reilly and McKenzie Zamber are now making their own music and videos as the Hound and the Fox. They're a super talented, sweet couple, well worth checking out.
Every time I watch/listen to this I’m astounded with so many aspects of this. Avi is amazing in this, as well as Kevin creating the framework to awesomeness. The makeup and effects are fun and vocals on point per usual.
to be clear, they won a grammy for the arrangement - and because the award at the time was for "best INSTRUMENTAL arrangement", the Grammys actually changed the category to "best arrangement, instrumental or acapella".
Your text asks "What can't Pentatonix do?" That's a rhetorical question, right? Love your reaction and your enjoyment of this creative masterpiece. Eye and ear candy indeed - always from PTX! Grammy #1 and how they do this is just amazing - the sounds, the DJ scratch and mix, the pace - the creative video. Now that you have seen the official recorded version, just for fun, please, please react to them doing this live, on the spot, as a private performance that looks like somebody's living room and filmed on a camera phone. Link here: ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html PTX is the REAL DEAL. Lots of recommendations for reactions in the comments below and some history. I already gave you one or two long lists of recommendations and I know you will get through them. There is also a great video on the history of the group - only about 10 minutes long - which would give a quick summary.
I found Home Free by binging Pentatonix songs & reactions and then discovered Voiceplay! I really enjoy these groups for their differences and their talent! No camp for me. Just lucky to be able to listen to all of them! Great reaction Larry!
Home Free and PTX unfortunately have yet to do a full collab … HOWEVER … Home Free DID have Avi Kaplan feature on their cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”! Check out the video!
When i first saw this video i had to watch it three times before i figured out that they were doing those 'glitch' effects with only their voices. The other thing that blew me away was Mitch and Scott singing a verse with a staccato style that sounded like an EDM mix. And to tie it all together, Avi and Kevin laid down what sounded like a five layer bass/perc track... just jaw-dropping talent. If ya heard it on the radio, you'd never know it was Acapella. 😁
I absolutely love Pentatonix, having discovered them through reactors here on UA-cam - & while I love all the Songs I've seen so far of them with Matt , I don't think I've seen one yet where he gets as 'low' as Avi - not that I mean that in a bad way, & if I'm wrong, I'm sure more seasoned Pentaholics will point me in the right direction! 👍😊
Please let us watch your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction without the video. Most of us know the video by heart, but we don't know your reaction now. I would also love to see your first reaction to Pentatonix (It was Mary, did you know if I am not mistaken) without the video!
Can't believe this was so early in their careers, it's just too good! This was the first Grammy, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies the second. Everyone says it's a song without words done by a group without instruments.😊 Third Grammy Jolene with Dolly Parton. Predict the fourth will be The Prayer, hopefully.
I got a shout out 💖😁 Thank you! Sorry Bohemian Rhapsody got nuked. Daft Punk is a French group that did these songs, and I think covers or remixes were popular club songs. Their videos had alot of robots and sci fi stuff in them. Love Again is a Pentatonix original video with very similar effects. Perfume, a medley from an oriental group, is beautiful and fun too. When I want a random good Pentatonix one I get on their page and see if there is a song I like, and watch how they do it. Is always good. Thanks for a great reaction! Oh, Emma gave you a link that has them with no mics doing Daft Punk, private performance, it is great! 😁😁😎
I have listened to Home Free, and while I agree they are very talented, I have to say that even songs that move me, Home Free has never moved me to tears, like Pentatonix.
Unfortunately i never got to see them live while Avi was with them. They just never came close enough to be able to go, The ironic thing is, in 2019 i got to go see Avi in concert in Chicago then in july same year i got to see PTX in concert in Grand Rapids. They didn't do this song but the concert was awesome.
One thing that strikes me is how we get so totally wrapped up in the talent of the performers that we forget how much talent the arranger(s) have. Not only can they arrange music, but they know EXACTLY how to maximize the talent of each instrument (voice). What a gift we have in the entire Pentatonix experience! Not sure if I've mentioned it for you before, but you should check out some Peter Hollens stuff...especially where he is not collaborating. It's amazing to listen to Somewhere Over the Rainbow ua-cam.com/video/gxRWaaHvipg/v-deo.html and realize that it is totally, completely ONE vocalist. I believe I've heard him say he recorded 172 tracks for that song! I listen to a LOT of a capella music, and Peter's Take Me Home Country Roads ua-cam.com/video/25dPPoqpzQk/v-deo.html is far and away THE most convincing that there is a backing band but, no, it's ALL Peter Hollens! And his take on Fun.'s Some Nights, OMG! ua-cam.com/video/_AfTBoCKJbU/v-deo.html
Great reaction!!! Your facial expressions are priceless! The talent of Pentatonix is shown very well in this performance. The sounds they can make are so well done that most people swear they are using enhancements or tracks behind them. It is so good that there are not sufficient words to describe them. I have been with you on this journey and will continue to come along with you. Watching your reactions to them is very satisfying and makes me excited...like I'm seeing them again for the first time. Almost like I'm a proud momma showing off her baby. I know...sounds weird, but that's the best way to describe it. It's too bad the Bohemian Rhapsody was blocked. I would have loved to see your reaction and hear your thoughts on this one. I thought this one also deserved a Grammy, but sadly it did not. Now, another song similar to this one which really showcases their sound talents is 90's Dance Medley. Their voices in this one are so much like the instruments that it is uncanny. I believe you will love this one and will also recognize all the songs. They do use autotune in the Cher song...only because Cher used it. Thanks again for bringing us a great reaction and for all the work you put into these videos for our watching pleasure. Sending you love from Texas! Happy New Year!
There is a live performance version of this on UA-cam somewhere - and it's just as good. Oh, and most Pentaholics will tell you to steer away from this one until 'the time is right' but... I think you're ready now for their live performance of 'A-Ha!' at the Singapore Vista. 😁😁 (If you type that exact phrase into a UA-cam search you should find it.) The video quality isn't great, since it was filmed by a fan at the venue with their camera phone - but Pentatonix don't need no top-quality sound and audio to be awesome. All I'll say is... prepare to be almightily Mitch-slapped by his live vocals!
You probably knew a couple of the songs and not others... this is a mashup of 7 different Daft Punk songs. The Grammy they won for it was for the arrangement. As I'm sure people have mentioned, there's a very popular mic-less private performance of this one floating around. Would you consider putting your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction somewhere else? People with Patreon often put blocked videos there... there are a few other options, but I think the most popular outside of Patreon is Google Drive. They'll tell us where to find them with the Community tab. The different a capella groups work together occasionally though no huge all-out collaborations. Avi with Home Free, Kirstin with Voctave... Voctave also provided "choir" parts for a Pentatonix Christmas song and the group Aurora (once Sonos) helped PTX write one of their very first originals. I think it's Chris Rupp (the guy who left Home Free?) who said Ed Boyer mixes for both of them and sometimes samples Kevin in his songs when his beatbox "sound" is better than Chris'.
It’s amazing what pentatonix can do, isn’t it? I mean, they recorded this whole music video in Avi’s closet, with a budget of $400, yet it won them a Grammy. I definitely recommend their version of ‘Can you feel the love tonight?’, which isn’t the most popular of their songs, actually, but for some reason it’s always really stuck out to me and I’d like to see what others think of it.
Very talented... But not my thing... Unfortunately one of the performers tone actually makes me nauseous... I am sound sensitive... Auditory overload of sounds... Hallelujah somehow I could enjoy... Please Enjoy their talents
Daft Punk was never my forte, but I certainly appreciated what PTX could do with their sound! Now the holidays are over you can start on the PTX vast 10 year catalog of upgraded covers and original music. You really should at least watch (if not react to!) their Sing-Off performances, just to see where they started and how far they’ve come. Don’t give up on getting Bohemian Rhapsody posted, there are ways around the censor nazis, I would love to see your reaction. Happy New Year! May 2022 be better than the last few years. I look forward to living vicariously through your journey of discovery with this amazing group! Sooooo much more to come!
To me, this is their most impressive song because it's just so out of the ordinary. Also, if you need another thing to react to, you can watch this - ua-cam.com/video/DAPkOxRnh4c/v-deo.html Not a music video but a audition. Very very cool
Hi Chris, it's the beginning of a New Year and unfortunately I'm again lying in hospital and have just discovered your great reaction. Thank you for bringing me some joy and distraction ❤️🍀. I wish you all the best for 2022 🥳🌟 and please, if you like, react to Amazing Grace (my chains are gone) by PTX. It's so spiritual powerful, but you don't need to be religious to appreciate it. ❤️ Hugs
A healthy and Happy New Year 🍀🐞 to you and thanks for your reaction 😃. Referring to the blocking, some reactors mirror the videos and put a gentle filter over them. Maybe this helps?
Thanks Mermaid! Yes, I've tried the filters on some of them and they seem to still get blocked from time to time. No major deal, really, but it can get frustrating. Happy New Year!
Everything you are hearing is ALL THEM! There is a video of a private performance of this... Just the 5 of them in front of a handful of people... No equipment... And you can still hear all the sounds! 😅
Yes, that robotic skipping noise is them, not editing. There is a vid of them doing this song off mic, just standing around in a room and they do it. There's also one of them all just milling around in an off moment doing nothing in particular and Mitch and Scott bump into each other and they do that metallic/electronic sound skipping noise at eachother and giggle over it as if two robots had bumped. Doesn't Avi make an excellent bass guitar? People always comment on the startling blue eyes in this one. It's colored contacts of course. It would have been more than startling to see them on Kevin but his poor eyes wouldn't tolerate the contacts and left him puffy and bloodshot. The sch-fi looking glasses covered that plus filled the bill for 'the look' of the video.
What may be confusing you about whether you've heard the song or not is that it isn't a single song... it's a medley of songs by the group Daft Punk (I believe there are parts of 7 songs blended into it), so you probably remember bits of several of the songs as they go through them. There's a big overlap in the fanbases of Pentatonix and Home Free... a lot of us love both groups and consider the two of them to be the gold standard of acapella music. Different styles and different arrangement tendencies, but both are superb at what they do.
Some facts: you can bribe the UA-cam gods with a small sacrifice. Add a light filter or watermark on the screen. We do know the videos by heart. It's about your reaction to it. You don't need to cover it completely. - Daft Punk is a group, this was a medly/Mashup of several of their songs. - I like home free and ptx. Ptx is like fine art for me. Very sophisticated. Home free is craftsmanship. They master and know their craft so good, they can play with it. But being not from the US, home free is very often too America oriented or too American in their choice of songs and themes. That's absolutely fine for me, but the reason I prefer ptx a bit more.
Thanks! Yes, I've tried a few filters and opacity as well and I still get the blocks from time to time. It can be a little frustrating, but all in all, it's all good.
Of course by now you know that they are all A Cappella (2 words, 2 p-s) yes. No instruments. Their voices are amazing! These are the many different songs from Daft Punk: Technologic One More Time Get Lucky Digital Love Harder/Better/Faster/Stronger Television Rules the Nation Around the World
It’s all them. 1st Grammy win. They filmed it in Kevin and Avi s kitchen Spent $400. Used talent and Insane imagination. It’s a medley and such a fun Mix. I mean they love a challenge. I love them then and I love them now. Thanks for great reaction
Pentatonix do upgrades, not covers, right? You're going down the rabbit hole, welcome. Glad you've experienced Home Free too. Are you ready for Voiceplay, I wonder?. Try their upgrade of Carry on my Wayward Son or Oogie Boogie's song.
Now that you have watched Pentatonix “Daft Punk Medley, I eagerly await your reaction to Home Free’s amazing cover of Dire Straights “Brothers In Arms”. It’s 180 degrees different then PTX’s “Daft Punk”, but a true gem of Acapella music IMHO. Please do your fans Home Fries, and me the pleasure of seeing your reaction.
Yes I know - a bit to late for christmassongs but never to late for fabulous voices. Therefor: the greatest version of "O Holy night" ever recorded by the swedish tenor «Jussi» Björling ua-cam.com/video/z92gnN0lDx8/v-deo.html Another great voice, and version of "O Holy Night", is the norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø ua-cam.com/video/PK-NZc4O6mA/v-deo.html
Pentatonix Daft Punk Mix Private Performance: ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html This will give you the best idea of how they sound doing it with no fancy equipment. In concerts, yes, fans are shouting, applauding, singing along, whatever (no, I haven't been to a Pentatonix concert yet; my first one will be next month and I'm very excited about it).
I'm glad this has arrived but sad that your efforts for "Bohemian Rhapsody" are all blocked. Wishing you a healthy and happy year to come, thank you for making 2021 easier.
Pentatonix does a cover of Kosmo Sheldrake's "Come Along". If you would like to get "Mitch-slapped" as never before, you should check it out. The first time I heard it, I could not believe the human voice could do that! The man is simply amazing!
Who cannot be „camp PTX“ after this?!?!? They are a class of their own. By the way, there is a live version of this on UA-cam by them performing this on a private birthday party of some kind… And by the way: its not „one song“ - it‘s a medley of various songs performed by Daft Punk.😀
Pentaholic! 😂. No, it didn’t take long did it? 😂. Would love to see you react to Scott Hoying’s duet with Shoshana Bean singing “All to Me”. The video is on her channel. Thank youuu! 🙂👍
This was my introduction to PTX one evening some years ago, and after numerous repeats (forget how many!), I fell down their rabbit hole. Still sad Avi left, but very pleased to see, and hear, his solo output. You should maybe check some of that out? “Change on the Rise” is wonderful!! Great reaction as always, and congratulations on reaching a dozen k’s, may they multiply 🤗
Hey Larry. Now that you have become a TRUE Pentaholic, I want to introduce you to a NEW group that you have probably never heard of before. The group was formed by Mitch and Scott on the side outside of their work with PTX and is called Superfruit and I was reminded tonight with a review of their song Rise by another one of my regular reviewers and features 3 other awesome artists. It's not aCapella, but I believe it will blow your mind as much as Daft Punk did. Give it a listen and see what you think.

Fans of Pentatonix : Pentaholics, Fans of Home Free : Home Fries, Fans of both : Pentafries 🥰
Believe it or not, they recorded this in, I believe 2013 for $400 in a closet, Incredible. So sorry to miss Bohemian Rap. I would have loved to watch you see that for the first time, Great reaction.
Check out their daft punk private performance! Really- it’s all them!
It’s hard to hear the bass, and some of Kevin, but it’s shot on a cell phone from a bit of a distance, so it’s understandable. They still crush it!
And to think they were just babies when they did this! They are amazingly talented. Thanks
Yea, this was a great song!
Thanks Meg!
I found Home Free by binging Pentatonix songs & reactions and then discovered Voiceplay! I really enjoy these groups for their differences and their talent! No camp for me. Just lucky to be able to listen to all of them! Great reaction Larry!
Amen. Love 'em all. They're all different takes on a capella music, they're all hella talented. The end.
Well-said!
You may not see this . Just discovered you from an Eminem reaction. But I'm a huge PTX fan too. I seen them in concert before covid....so amazing
Home Free has done a collab with Avi actually, they did Ring of Fire with him, definitely check it out!
I don’t know if you have seen it but Home Free did "Ring of Fire" with Avi. It is amazing!
I have seen them do this in concert. Sounds almost the same live as it does in the studio version. It’s mind blowing. Their talent is insane.
Avi collaborated with home free in Ring of fire you should check this one!! You will love it!!
Thanks bud!
Avi collaborated with Home Free on the cover of Johnny Cash Ring Of Fire.
Loved your reaction to this PTX song. It is an amazing performance! It’s so much to watch!
I have listened to Home Free, and while I agree they are very talented, I have to say that even songs that move me, Home Free has never moved me to tears, like Pentatonix.
Avi sings with home free Ring of Fire you must give it a listen Tim and Avi together is amazing
Amazing Grace and Shallow
No auto tune, no instruments just pure talent, private audition just a table full of judges nothing else you will believe it after you watch this.
Anything with Avi is a masterpiece not to take anything away from Matt but no one can compare to Abu.
Happy New Year! Loved your Christmas PTX reactions, now looking forward to watching you explore more of this brilliant groups unparalleled TALENT ☀️
Same to you!
Great reaction! They won their first Grammy for this arrangement. Yes they are incredible live and you for sure need to see them when you can!
Alan Ferguson, THANK YOU FOR THE LINKS !!!
Thanks Michelle! You are so very kind! Wishing you a wonderful New Year!

Thanks!
There is a live performance version of this on UA-cam somewhere - and it's just as good.
Oh, and most Pentaholics will tell you to steer away from this one until 'the time is right' but... I think you're ready now for their live performance of 'A-Ha!' at the Singapore Vista. 😁😁
(If you type that exact phrase into a UA-cam search you should find it.) The video quality isn't great, since it was filmed by a fan at the venue with their camera phone - but Pentatonix don't need no top-quality sound and audio to be awesome.
This won a Grammy for this. The whole thing cost about $400...and was filmed in a closet.
Glad to see you cover this song. It's my favorite! Astounding the sounds they create with no assistance
Also, if you need another thing to react to, you can watch this - ua-cam.com/video/DAPkOxRnh4c/v-deo.html
Not a music video but a audition. Very very cool
Here is a ‘private’ performance of their Daft Punk medley - m.ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html
❤️ Hugs
So sorry to hear you're back in the hospital. Praying you get past it and get to go home soon.
I love your PTX reactions. Would love to see you react to PTX Gold. It’s amazing.
A collaboration between Pentatonox and Home Free - hopefully as much fun as this episode of Sing Off ua-cam.com/video/uZoNiO6QbtM/v-deo.html
Oh you need to do Sing, Can’t Hold Us and Problem! They’re all such fun songs!
Great reaction as always! Enjoy the listening!!
I think the difference beference between Pentatonix and Home FREE (from what I've seen) is Pentatonix can do all genres including country.
It’s not ONE SONG. It’s a MEDLEY of songs by duo DAFT PUNK. And FYI, this video cost them about $400 and was filmed in a CLOSET. No bad for GRAMMY #1.
These are the many different songs from Daft Punk:
Technologic
One More Time
Get Lucky
Digital Love
Harder/Better/Faster/Stronger
Television Rules the Nation
Around the World
It’s all them. 1st Grammy win. They filmed it in Kevin and Avi s kitchen Spent $400. Used talent and Insane imagination. It’s a medley and such a fun
Mix. I mean they love a challenge. I love them then and I love them now. Thanks for great reaction
Wanna see something else different try Can't hold us.. lol they rap. BTW daft punk is a group, it's a medley of their songs.
Lol. Your reaction is epic. It's obvious that you enjoy PTX. Yes my friend, your a Pentaholic. Keep up the good work 😃
Pentatonix do upgrades, not covers, right? You're going down the rabbit hole, welcome. Glad you've experienced Home Free too. Are you ready for Voiceplay, I wonder?. Try their upgrade of Carry on my Wayward Son or Oogie Boogie's song.
This is not "a song". This is a cover of several Daft Punk songs. Medley. Mashup.
That cover is FIRE 🔥🔥 I absolutely love their cover of Brothers In Arms, very very well done!
Yes I know - a bit to late for christmassongs but never to late for fabulous voices.
Therefor: the greatest version of "O Holy night" ever recorded by the swedish tenor «Jussi» Björling ua-cam.com/video/z92gnN0lDx8/v-deo.html
Another great voice, and version of "O Holy Night", is the norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø ua-cam.com/video/PK-NZc4O6mA/v-deo.html
Pentatonix Daft Punk Mix Private Performance: ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html
This will give you the best idea of how they sound doing it with no fancy equipment.
In concerts, yes, fans are shouting, applauding, singing along, whatever (no, I haven't been to a Pentatonix concert yet; my first one will be next month and I'm very excited about it).
Great Reaction !
Now you need to listen LOVE AGAIN, an original with the same vibe!
I'm glad this has arrived but sad that your efforts for "Bohemian Rhapsody" are all blocked. Wishing you a healthy and happy year to come, thank you for making 2021 easier.
Both PTX and Home Free are amazing! Another is VoicePlay. You should do a reaction of theirs if you haven't already. You'll be amazed!
Try putting a Fair Use Disclaimer before your vids.
By the way, there is a live version of this on UA-cam by them performing this on a private birthday party of some kind…
And by the way: its not „one song“ - it‘s a medley of various songs performed by Daft Punk.😀
Pentaholic!
Thanks so much, Mrs. Tlu! I hope you had a nice New Year's Eve and an even better New Year!
One last thing you can try on copyright problems: Try putting a watermark on the video that says "Copyright." I've seen it work for others.
Give it a listen and see what you think.
its all them, check out this video they do a private performance, live, no microphones just them standing in a room singing. ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html amazing.
Roll On The Floor Laughing! Brain cramp, yes indeed.
PTX won a Grammy for Jolene with Dolly Parton, a performance Grammy
did you knowwwww~ Pentatonix is named after the Pentatonic Harmony Scale
