- Shortly after having done the Part 2 video for the Polygon Siskiu D5, I decided I should revisit some of the other bikes I’ve built. First up is this 2021 Orbea Occam H30. What a bike! It’s an Aluminum Framed 29er with entry to mid-level component spec. It comes in at $2600 USD, and I think there’s a lot of value in it for that price. It’s a 140/140 Trail bike specced with Marzocchi and Fox Suspension. Shimano took control for the drivetrain and brakes. Throw in the Maxxis rubber, and this thing is ready to rock!! Take a ride with me as I explore just how awesome this thing can be. Thanks for watching and thanks for your continued support!

Nice vid! Cool trail with the bridges. At 5'9" I rode a large. It was rideable but a bit too tall. At 6' the large should be perfect for you. I had never rode a 29er and thought the wheels looked huge, but I was sold after 1 ride. Didn't notice any downsides even on the slower techy stuff. But the upsides of rolling over and through rocky/rooty sections and bombing downhill was definitely noticed!
Yeah that’s how I feel about the 29ers now. No loss in agility just tons of rolling momentum. Next bike I’ll probably go with a 29er.
The only downside I felt was the added difficulty of manualing or bunny hopping, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Actually got the h10 a month or two ago. It's really great.
I went to XT8100 brakes with ice tech rotors and a DT Swiss 350 hub and it made a HUGE difference in mine.
That's a really nice setup!
@03:25 - Head's up for a Strava Segment. I never seen a sign for strava segments on any trail, that's pretty cool 😎.
Yeah they have great signage and decorations at Mt. Zion. Many things make it a unique and fun place to be.
Nice video Sir! Great to see a down to earth review of this bike opposed to the top specced model being ridden down gnarly trails in Canada, wich to me is more relateable. Got my M30 (with fox 34 grip2) two months back and really enjoy it. This week I'm expecting some offset bushings arriving by mail and will have a tinker with fitting that hardware to the shock. It's going to be interesting to see how slackening the head angle a tad bit will feel like. My one concern is the BB height. And yeah, I put the High Roller in the back and a DHF up front as our natural trails here in Norway are quite rough. Keep up the good work and best of luch with your channel!
Thanks so much for your support! Stoked to have someone from Norway tuned in. My videos have a grassroots feel because they are just that...grassroots. As for your M30, that’s a rad bike. My friend owns one. Anywho! Hope to see you drop in again sometime, good luck on your bushing install.
I know you're aware but just for the public who might want to check out zion - if you do the perimeter loop as is you'll miss a bunch of fun features. Best way to do it is to finish the 357 and then take the p loop from there. Only adds a half mile or so to the ride but really makes the most of the trail
Makes sense. Maybe I’ll ride it that way today. Thanks man!
I'm 6'1", and I bought the XL. I really like the size. Feels comfortable.
Yeah that sounds about right! Great bike, hope you enjoy it! Make sure to look into the shock bolt issue that some people are having.
@@JaredRMorgan i just ordered the 2022 occam h30 - could you elaborate on this issue?
Trails looked great as did the bike. This is your best video imo.
Thank you sir! Thanks for watching.
WOW!! You just saved me big time. I am a hair under 5'10" and was about to order a large. I think ill get a medium!
Yeah id always go a bit smaller when you’re between sizes. Big bikes I find can be harder to manage, and there’s nothing worse than the seat not being able to go low enough, or the standover of the top tube to be too high.
@@JaredRMorgan SO true!!!
I agree on the brakes. Got myself a full sus lately. Perfect bike but these brakes cost me two weeks shoulder injury. Replaced them by Deore M6100. Huge difference and more safe. Modulate super. Not these MT200. To snappy and unreliable biting point. Not for serious riding.
I agree. The lack of predictable defined bite of the MT200 is why I don’t like them. Believe it or not, since we did this video I’ve already upgraded these brakes for my buddy. This bike now has Magura MT Trail Sports.
@@JaredRMorgan How are the magura mt trail sport brakes? I know they are 4 pot in the front, but only 2 pot in the rear? Do you feel like they still offer enough stopping power?
I bought one yesterday..:) Occam h30 .. Already swapping the brakes for SLX
Nice! Easiest way to make the brakes way better is to just install the M6100 Deore Levers to the existing caliper and hoses.
@@JaredRMorgan I've decided to swap the rear ones for M7000slx kit.
The front will be Deore M6120 4piston most likely.
still using it :P
Nice and very useful video. I watched it a lot of time cause I bought this bike but I will receive it in April
Goodness that is a long wait!!
Wish I could have made it out there! Another great video though!
Thanks man! Next time!
Just bought a 2023 H20 EAGLE with front & back Fox's suspension, let's fly! :)
Enjoy! Awesome bike!
I’ve been looking at the Occam, but I think I would upgrade to the H2O w Fox Float fork, Shimano brakes, & NX SRAM. Not sure I would call that a downhill, maybe for MS.
Yeah I can understand why you’d go H20; the fox fork and the higher level shimano brakes will make a big difference. Used the wrong word there, should’ve called it a descent. Lol.
I just bought the orange H30, I gave the stock brakes to them fir $60 credit towards shimano XT quad rear and dual piston front, 203mm front rotor, and 180 rear ICE Tech. Then they set it tubeless, and swapped the dereileur and gear lever for XT for another $130, bikes a beast. The Marzocchi Z2 is rad so far, firm stanchions, easy tun-ability, maybe a bit sticky compared to my ole FOX 34. I did place an order for a Fox 36 150 performance to keep a blacked out scheme against the orange frame. I’ll report back but this is one of the most gorgeous bikes I’ve ever seen in person!
What would your thoughts be about the Polygon Siskiu T8 and this Occam? For $2299 you get the SLX drivetrain, 4 piston brakes front & Back, and a Fox 34 Rhythm fork. I'm guessing the finish on the Occam's is supreme to most bikes out there. Just not sure how cheap looking are the Polygon's for the price.
It would be a tough call bc although spec is a huge determining factor, linkage design and r&d is a big deal too. Orbea is a more sophisticated brand than polygon, but the heavier spec would make it a strong contender. I would have to ride them both to be 100% sure. Truth is, you can’t go wrong with either decision. I’ve ridden polygon products....they’re nice. I’ve ridden orbea products....also nice. The Occam is one of the best bikes I’ve ridden recently, and there’s something to be said for that.
Sorry if this isn’t very helpful. Might be time to flip a coin! Lmao!
Cure Cycling Service Thanks for your feedback. It seems I can’t go wrong with either bike. Will now flip a coin! hahaha 😂
Wooooo! The whole world hangs in the balance of that coin flip!
But no really, let me know what you decide....I’m curious.
I love my 2022 Occam.
Great bike!!
Can you give an unbiased opinion on Occam H30 versus the new 2023 Rift Zone 2 29er ?
Not at the moment, bc I have yet to get on the ‘23 RZ 2, but I definitely want one in my stable. Occam is an awesome bike with a couple platform issues you’ll need to look into like the shock bolt.
@@JaredRMorgan I'm close to pulling the trigger on the new RZ2. I like the geo and I love the color. Love the fork and drivetrain. Not loving the brakes or rear shock. The price is stretching my budget so I don't really have room to upgrade. The Occam seems to be spec'd better and only $80 more at Jenson currently
@@JaredRMorgan have you ridden the old RZ? I'm also tempted to get the 2022 RZ3
@@JaredRMorgan oh I thought the RZ2 had the x-fusion shock. Apparently that's the RZ1. That rockshox rear shock is not bad
Another awesome vid !! You and your crew are always welcome at MZ ! Keep it up!! What camera are you filming with ?
Thanks so much! I hope to be back soon. I always have a good time. I’ve been using the GoPro Hero 8 Black. Great camera.
Very Good n detailed video... the only downside for me is the sizing as i am 175cm which is in between M & L
Easy! Get the medium. I’m 6 foot and was fine on the medium.
@@JaredRMorgan I'm 5' 10" and ride a large which is noticeably more confident descending than the medium but still feels plenty nimble. So really a question of which characteristics you prefer.
Yeah and I think another thing that comes into play is your inseam aka: how long your legs are.
Tried my friends size L.. its perfect for me
Always nice when you can try someone’s on for size!
Great vid! Keep it up!
Hey thanks 😊
Nice vid! How is this bike compared to a Trek fuel ex? Around here hard to testride and I want to upgrade from my Hardtail.
It’s a hard comparison having not ridden that particular trek. The closest model I’ve ridden was the remedy, and I really liked that bike too. Which fuel are you looking at? I’ll compare spec and tell you which parts I like better to try and help be more informative.
@@JaredRMorgan thinking between the 7&8
I was just looking at the fuel 7, and from what I saw....I'd say the Occam is equipped with better suspension. The fuel I'd say has better brakes. Drivetrains are pretty much what and what. It's really a close call, and I'd say just go with whichever one you can acquire amidst this bike shortage. They'll both be solid.
Are the breakes so bad, that it would become dangerous riding the bike or are there just better breakes on the Market?
Not dangerous, just not great. You’ll have to anticipate getting on the brakes sooner.
I think even if you just threaded on a better set of shimano levers at the cockpit it would make a huge difference. Like the deore levers.
Polished!
Great work! To secure your win, make sure you have two friends tagged in my Instagram post for the giveaway...then hit me up in my DM’s!
Great Work!
Thank you!!
what is the weight of the bicycle?
Somewhere around 32-33lbs if I remember correctly.
how does it compare with the YT jeffsy base 29?I'm torn between the two bikes being at below 3000$ price range.
I haven’t ridden the latest iteration of the jeffsy, but if it were me I’d probably still choose the Occam personally. I like the fork and drivetrain better of the Occam.
@@JaredRMorgan I hope I can see you review the new yt jeffsy base 29 in the near future.thanks and wonderful vids
If I can get my hands on one, you know I will!!
Where are you riding?
And compared to the D5 how do you feel?
This was at Mt Zion in Brookhaven MS. It’s a much better bike than the D5, but that’s to be expected. It costs almost 3x what the D5 costs. They’re not quite apples to apples.
Polished!!
🙌🙌🙌
Orbea occam vs giant trance 29. Have you ridden both
I haven’t ridden the trance! I tried to get my hands on a trance X for myself but I couldn’t. They’re having major supply issues.
How you find the sizing I'm 5'11" so either a medium or large
Tbh I’m starting to believe that 99% of the time if you’re on the cusp you should go a size down. Easier to manage a smaller bike. But that’s a matter of opinion.
Zion is the best! 🇺🇸
It is a solid place. I wanna go back. Lol
Cure Cycling Service I’ll try to join next time
What size is your Occam in? Because I hesitate between M and L I am 1m70 but I am only 15 years old so I can still grow.
So I’m 6ft and I rode a medium. It was actually pretty comfortable for me but I don’t mind bikes that are a bit small. A Large probably would’ve suited me perfectly. Hope this helps!
@@JaredRMorgan Thank you for your very quick reply
No problem! Thanks for visiting my channel!
How does it feel on longer climbs and tours?
One of the best bikes I’ve ridden in climbs. It would barely move. ALMOST felt like a hardtail. One of my closest buds just bought one of these bc I speak very highly on the Occam.
The only con he found through some research is a shock bolt that has broken for some owners but they make a steel replacement to fix the issue.
@@JaredRMorgan Ok great.I am thinking of buying one this week and was concerned of the heavy weight. But if you tell me you don't really feel it I think it's a great choice :)
Not once did this bike feel heavy to me.
If you buy the bike through my link in the description i get a small commission and it helps fund the channel. Doesn’t cost you any extra! 🙏
@@Thimo020 I have this bike, and despite being 3lbs heavier than my old Giant Trance I am absolutely obliterating any and all climbing PRs on this Orbea with seemingly less effort than on the Giant. I'm guessing it's the suspension kinematics and super steep seattube angle, but if anything I'm more impressed about improvement in climbing ability over improvement in descending ability with the new bike. There's much more to how a bike climbs than its weight in the MTB world, and the Occam definitely feels lighter than the Trance.
This or the Siskiu T7/T8? Which is the more playful/poppy?
I’d say Occam. The Siskiu T is a great bike and probably better at gulping down big hits, but the Occam is definitely lighter and more “playful.”
@@JaredRMorgan thanks!!!
What pedals are you using?
On this bike he’s running oneup composites. Thanks for watching!
It can shred though!
Nice!
Most definitely bro!
How tall are you?
6 foot!
do you know what it weights ?
If my memory serves me correct, stock it was 33ish?? I remember being satisfied with its weight and not finding it heavy.
Orbea Occam H30 vs Canyon Neuron 6? Can anybody compare, Please? :)
It's the Occam for me. The Neuron, although a good bike, is a bit dated. The Occam is a modern and extremely capable trail bike. Have a good day!!
whats the weight on it?
It’s been a while but I wanna say it was about 33ish for a size M.
POLISHED!!!
Again, congrats!

What is the weight on these bikes?
It’s a reasonable weight if I remember correctly. Probably around 33. It’s not light, but certainly does not feel heavy. Just right for the kind of bike it is.
