Kevin Smith talks about his involvement with the project and says Jon Peters had no idea who Superman was. He just saw the emblem everywhere and thought he was in position to market what he saw as demand. If he had done ANY research about the character, he'd have known he was hardly the first to come up with the idea. I'm grateful this project never saw the light of day. BTW, WB has owned DC Comics for about 40 years at that point, so they already had rights to the character.
I agree Nic Cage wouldn't do the role justice. But it was the 90's and everyone thought Cage could do anything I guess. I loved Cage in the 90's. Face/Off is one of my all time favourite films, but not to take away anything from Travolta either. It was a great era of cinema, especially for action movies and especially John Woo.
@benjaminrupe5930 Yes my man, but in the 80s-90s the "film rights" to Superman were split between Warner, a Polish investor named Alexander Salkind, and his son Ilya Salkind, then sometime in the 90's Jon Peters alerted Warner that the Salkind shares were for sale, so Warner bought all of the Superman film rights.
Thank the stars this film never got made. LOL. I hope Gunn's Superman film is very successful,if not, many years will pass before we get another Supes movie. Superman fanboys didn't like Man of Steel,at all. I did tho,I LOVED it,thought it was-GREAT.
Agreed with all that. Loved Man of Steel. Still rewatch it sometimes. Costner played great as his dad too. It really gave something (father / mother and son relationship) like never before in the Superman films

I like Nicolas Cage in most of his projects. However, I simply cannot fathom him as Superman. I am SO GLAD the "Superman Lives" film was not made.
Agreed
why am i still hearing about this? why was i EVER hearing about this?
Paralyze the entire world? Really? That’s what you went with? Jeez…
