Fantastic material you can even cook and eat it……lightweight, cheap, strong, flexible for seismic…….do not use nails to connect use pins of bamboo……and later coconut rope……definitely treat it with salt water…..if you cannot put it in a soak bath you can knock holes in the knuckles (the joins) leaving the one knuckle at the bottom of the stalk closed……..fill it with saltwater and stand upright for at least 5 days ….. this will get the bugs out and leave the salt in there for future bugs which they don't like……….boric acid is okay too but saltwater is greener………..cheers……..lets hope the psychos won't ban this too as they have banned everything good.
Part of the challenge with using bamboo in the West is current building codes don't deal with it. It's not a strength of the product issue. Forestry interests also don't want the competition. Another issue is Bamboo for building use does not really grow in most of the temperate northern hemisphere to timber size. Yes people can have nice bamboo in the yard, but only in the deep south of America will it grow to "timber" size.
