For that price of the battle pass and to be able to progress it on your own time is truly fantastic. The items it gives already look very worth too! Amazing work!
I love being able to complete the battle pass without a time limit. I have health issues that make it impossible for me to play some days which means I can't always complete time-sensitive things. This also means that some of the quirky/fun/relatively rare high-level items from a battle pass don't require no-lifeing the game. There's no real "loss" to the devs for this style either, because you'd still have to buy the next season's battle pass if you want the newer items.
Yeah, honestly, I don't see ANY REASON why the battlepass should be FOMO. Respect the players' time, and the players will respect you. That is the problem with OW, they don't respect the players' time and could get away with it due to being the only 'good' game in its genre. Not anymore. If OW got put into the ground, I'd be happy. OW is too good of a game for the devs to maintain, so just put the dying dog down.

I wish we knew a studio name for the people working on this game instead of just "net ease" because they certainly don't have a good monetization reputation. These devs should reap the good reputation
I'm surprised but glad Marvel Rivals took lessons from Helldivers 2 and have permanent things but mostly being able to choose what you want instead of being stuck on a linear path! So much better than a lot of games. I can't wait to play this tomorrow night!
I think every game like this has that problem because the "dps" role/class is the most popular but yeah I agree they should focus on releasing a few more strategists and vanguards
Wolverine is the tankiest Marvel character between his adamantium skeleton and his healing factor. Plus because he's an up-close relentless brawler, he fits into the Vanguard role. It'd be a lot like Venom or Thor, not there because they have a bunch of defenses and shields, but because they get up in the enemy's face and take the focus.
I really hope that overwatch looks at this and realises that they are in a bit of danger from this. People were already slightly worried about the gameplay alone, but also having this battlepass system really makes me hope they decide to actually do something like this. (this is definitely a bit of cope for sure but its good to hope once in a while)
man this is NICE, you get everything in a bundle and the battlepass can be done at any time, tbh i hope they do what the finals does and lets you buy anything at anytime regardless if it leaves the store, the finals has the best free to play monetization imo so i hope more companys follow behind them
Flats, am just gonna help you here with MCU and the normal stuff. The MCU is the movies and series, MCU stands for Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the normal is the comic books and all other content marvel has released
A worry about the battle pass that I have is if working on a previous pass comes at the cost of rewards on a current pass. Like if I spend 20 tokens on the previous pass I can't get a part of the current pass because I don't have the ability to gain more tokens. I hope you can always earn the chrono tokens because its sort of a "reward" for playing after finishing the battle pass which could let you get a head start on the next one
So if it works like helldivers battlepasses, you have multiple pages of items per pass and you can buy things on the first page in any order and once you have spent enough coins unlocking stuff on the first page you get access to the second... then once you've spent enough between the first 2 pages to pass the threshold the next page unlocks. It lets them still stack the last pages with potentially the most exciting things... but you as a player have some control over the order you unlock things since you can skip things you care less about and only grab the stuff you care most about on each page as it unlocks. It feels a bit more like meeting the player halfway than a linear battlepass.
Wolverine jumps on hulks arm and gets thrown Flats: was that the team up with Hulk? bruh, get a load of this guy. he always gets me with these unaware moments 😅
@4:30 i was already hyped with the reveal of Magik during the first initial reveal, seeing all the other melee characters coming out after her has me more hyped.
It is insane that Marvel Rivals monetization model actually sounds like it respects their players time and money. I'm a grown man who is about to cry with how beautiful that sounds to me as a free-to-play player.
exactly, free epic skins for f2p’s too, and not only that, these devs were the people that made the collector stuff in msw making them like 200$ 💀 Im glad they’re reaching their deserved progress for there time and hard work in this game
I feel like they're getting EVERYTHING right with Marvel Rivals. They clearly put a lot of thought into their release strategy, because one, early december is a perfect time to release a game, and two, the insane number of heroes they're giving us right away. And to top that off, they've made a point of having extremely consumer-friendly monetization and exciting cosmetics. I sincerely hope that this game never loses this level of quality.
With the sheer number of melee characters, high mobility, especially vertical mobility, and vertical dynamics to all the maps this game really feels like a cross between an arena hero shooter like its trying to be and a platform fighter and im so here for it
Words cannot describe how excited I am to play this. Literally everything they’ve announced is EXACTLY what everyone says Overwatch does poorly. I really hope the competition gives Blizzard a bit of a wake up call.
Cloak and Dagger seems to be similar to Hel's mechanics in smite where you change between light and dark and have different abilities in it. Seems nice!
So glad someone else shares my notion on melee characters and how the only form of skill expression isnt a character with projectile or hitscan coded ranged weapons..
I’m 34 now buts it’s crazy how far free to play games have come. When I was a kid it was basically cheap flash games on ebaum’s world. Kids these days are eating good. Good quality games without spending a dime.
No one remembers that the catch with the halo infinite battle pass was that you could ONLY progress it by completing challenges. The backlash was extreme and it changed later on where you progress by just playing.
Actually peak having you not have to rush to get everything on the Battle pass since you can always get it without worrying about having everything on the battle pass gone
I love battlepasses that you can finish whenever like the ones in Deeprock and Decieve Inc. since I don't have enough time to game as much to unlock the skins I want.
Ya, they have definitely won me over. The battlepass system, the monetization, and all heroes for free is just amazing. Definitely giving this game a shot!
Theory (Guys like this later if it's true), but I feel like the S1-onwards battle passes should be able to afford the next battle pass, but I wouldn't be shocked if the S0 couldn't afford the next one, since it's half as long. Part of this is my S1 battle pass theory. Season 0 is gonna draw in a lot of players, but if the game has balance issues or anything, it may die off a little bit by the time Season 1 launches in a month. Season 1: Deadpool. Deadpool will absolutely bring in tons of players, a Deadpool-themed battle pass could do incredibly well too. It's practically free money. Imagine Jeff in a Dogpool outfit, or a legendary Gwenpool skin for Deadpool himself. He's the obvious money-maker choice for a big start to their standard battle passes.
Honestly was not expecting them to allow people to continue Battle passes after the seasons are over, but I'm pleasantly surprised. I think this is a very fair model as well. I think letting you continue them as long as you pay is a pretty fair way to balance it. If I'm not feeling the game for a while but like the costumes I can just hop on, buy it and be done for a while
After playing since 2017. Only missing a like 2 seasons due to me being in basic combat training. Its time I finally give up the game I "used" to love. If marvel keeps up this hype I will leave overwatch unless overwatch matches the competition. A statement i never thought id say
If anything the battle pass for rivals maybe similar to the ones in Hell Divers 2. HD2 uses Medals as currency and you can buy what you want and not everything in each section.
So the pass is like Helldiver2, that you can redeem any item in any season after. The thing is, Super Credit in HD2 can be found in the map by playing normal games, but they said Chrono tokens can be earned by doing tasks and events. The important question here would be, even though the pass will never expire, do these tasks and events only go active after we buy a pass, and do they expire after the season ends?
Having battle passes be permanent is so good. I feel like timed passes makes people less likely to buy them. Like for me if I see a pass that I like but i know I won’t be able to play much that season for some reason I won’t buy the pass, but if I can earn it whenever then I’m more likely to buy a pass and therefore play the game more. I wish all games with passes did this!
I remember when Blizzard announced that they were doing a mobile Diablo with NetEase and people lost their minds. Now NetEase is blowing people's minds with Marvel Rivals. Not that people were wrong on their Diablo Immortal take (vastly different monetization for one,) but it's a great turn around for NetEase to be redefining people's expectations on what kind of quality they might get with a free to play licensed game. NetEase is going from a disappointing announcement at a Blizzcon, to producing a game that might well steal a ton of players from a top Blizzard game.
I wonder if they’ll do different versions of characters like for example making some characters be a vanguard or a duelist or a support. Kind of like marvel vs capcom. You could do different version of characters or a different loadout essentially. That would be interesting on the opposing team’s perspective you wouldn’t know if their spidey is a duelist or a support or whatever.
The bundles aren't even purchased with the paid currency (Lattice), but with the free currency (Units), which you can earn literally by playing the game.
this is wonderful but one more thing id say i hope happens is that maybe in the future if someone for example doesnt buy the season 0 battlepass then the skins in the battle pass will return in the future in the shop maybe at like a higher price this would not only benefit the player but them as the team would earn more money even if this does not happen this monetization is still wonderful and i hope this game is very successful
Sounds like the battle passes work more like a special shop that unlocks stuff as you buy the passes then you earn the coins to buy items from that shop.
The option to finish a battle pass whenever after buying is amazing. As someone who works a ton and doesnt have alot of free time i would actually pay extra for a battle pass for the ability to complete it later would be awesome really hope it does become industry standard Makes me a little sad about overwatch because they could never. Hope Marvel rivals is the kick in the ass blizzard needs to kick it into high gear

Netease showing they can do some of best monetization I ever seen in games
30 dollar skins is the best thing you’ve seen?
@@Kabal39Battle pass system is much better and you can earn all skins for free
@@Kabal39 where did you see 30 dollars? lol criticism is fine but don't be disingenuous.
"some of the best monetization I ever seen in game" What ? Their monetization is literally copy pasted OW monetization but you can keep the battlepass longer.
In games like helldiver 2 you can earn everything for free, in Marvel Rivals it will likely be like ovewatch, you get a few premium currency every seasons just enough to buy one epic skin
@@Kabal39 stop deleting my comment
Using MVC2 music on the background is brilliant on the editors part.
@@Chazza-01 expect it works, just look at something like war thunder and how it handles its events and bps with their paid tiers skips etc. If fomo didnt work, it wouldnt be so widespread in the entire industry.
@@Kaspiderv2 It is widespread in the industry because the gaming industry is full of games which do not respect the players time. Sometimes reputation is better than wringing the player base for every penny
4:27 I feel the exact same way for a lot of the same reasons you said! I also think it just fits with it being a bunch of Marvel superheroes so well, makes it feel even more fun
Same makes it more unique makes it feel like not everyone sitting across the map everyone got no choice but to push bc they melee characters and only can do damage by be up close and personal
5:00 he starts talking about monetization
Now we gotta put Flats onto Comics Explained and Comicstorian for peak comics

18:16 they really turned Cloak into a Zenless Zone Zero Ethereal
My FAVORITE type of fighting is melee!! Im so beyond excited to play the melee characters like Wolverine!
Dude that Jeff skin is so fucking adorable
a rule i have when playing games with a battlepass was i wouldnt buy the bp till i completed it cause ive had quite a few bps i bought and never finished, a game that allows u to keep unlocking it even after the season is over seems like a massive win for the company cause it insentivises people like me to purchase the battle pass even before they finish theres no worry about not being able to finish it
100% agree about it needing to be standard for battle pass lasting, good to see
Starting a Marvel Rivals video in Overwatch then switching to the actual MR news just gives me the giggles. 😆
Digital Extremes are gonna have a (heh) rival in terms of the most lovable devs xD
But for real, I'm happy they are taking such a customer friendly approach, let they stream and talk to the community from time to time and I see a bright future ahead for the game
I wish we knew a studio name for the people working on this game instead of just "net ease" because they certainly don't have a good monetization reputation. These devs should reap the good reputation
@@Gerwhal agreed, those are *definitely* not the guys that was helping with Diablo Immortal xD
Marvel Rivals is coming out Swinging Hard!!!
I love that if you don't finish the Battle Pass you can still do it in the next Season.
same! i can get burnt out from games bc i feel like i have to grind to finish the pass in time since i work a lot, this is nice
I hope they add more of the X-Men like Cyclops and Nightcrawler
I'm surprised but glad Marvel Rivals took lessons from Helldivers 2 and have permanent things but mostly being able to choose what you want instead of being stuck on a linear path! So much better than a lot of games. I can't wait to play this tomorrow night!
Ngl, Wolverine shouldve been a Vanguard instead. We have 18 duelists out of a 33 hero cast. It's more than half the characters in one role.
I think every game like this has that problem because the "dps" role/class is the most popular but yeah I agree they should focus on releasing a few more strategists and vanguards
@@mechaflood2247 from the leaks it seems like the next 4 heroes will be 2 vanguard(one of the Mr.fantastic) and 2 strategists(1 ultron)
bruv Wolverine on Vanguard Really?
do you even know Wolverine
Wolverine is a blender machine( DPS ) in game and comics
Wolverine is the tankiest Marvel character between his adamantium skeleton and his healing factor. Plus because he's an up-close relentless brawler, he fits into the Vanguard role. It'd be a lot like Venom or Thor, not there because they have a bunch of defenses and shields, but because they get up in the enemy's face and take the focus.
@@PWNDotcom3299 juggernaut or colossus will be a better tank than Wolverine
Cuz Wolverine being a tank will not utilize he animalistic agile aspect
Dagger is voiced by Xanthe Huynh, and yes, she also voices Juno!!
Moira mains eating good with Scarlet and Cloak&Dagger. Lets goooo
Don't let the Moira mains play cloak and dagger they're never gonna use dagger😂😂
@@GenshinGhostthat’s was good 😂😂
while it's kinds similar to Moira
Cloak is more of disruptions
while Moira is just other than heal is dps ngl :|
I really hope that overwatch looks at this and realises that they are in a bit of danger from this. People were already slightly worried about the gameplay alone, but also having this battlepass system really makes me hope they decide to actually do something like this.
(this is definitely a bit of cope for sure but its good to hope once in a while)
man this is NICE, you get everything in a bundle and the battlepass can be done at any time, tbh i hope they do what the finals does and lets you buy anything at anytime regardless if it leaves the store, the finals has the best free to play monetization imo so i hope more companys follow behind them
13:10 👏👏👏👏👏 legitimately an amazing addition.
You know what? They convinced me, I'm pre-downloading Marvel Rivals.
There are also a hero progression system where you get free cosmetics like new KO icons.
Im so happy for this game honestly, Its Looking Amazing, Cannot wait for this
12:45 ooooooooohh my god its like war robots frontiers. Best battlepass i've ever seen
Wolverine jumps on hulks arm and gets thrown
Flats: was that the team up with Hulk?
bruh, get a load of this guy. he always gets me with these unaware moments 😅
100% agree with loving the melee characters. Its such a fun archetype and there seem to be a bunch of styles too.
@4:30 i was already hyped with the reveal of Magik during the first initial reveal, seeing all the other melee characters coming out after her has me more hyped.
If anybody is wondering the song is from Marvel versus Capcom 2 Clock Tower theme
That Mantis from the battle pass looks better than most OW2 mythics, ngl. Especially since it comes with fitting emotes and stuff.
So much BIG news here ! Love to see it 👏
It is insane that Marvel Rivals monetization model actually sounds like it respects their players time and money.
Still wish the EU or someone would pass laws requiring all paid content/battlepass access to not have time limits and outlaw FOMO marketing BS...
9:30 the MCU TAX
the anti-FOMO bit of not having a time limit on the battle pass is enough to get my support and $5 (10 later ofc)
Need more Rivals content!
No one remembers that the catch with the halo infinite battle pass was that you could ONLY progress it by completing challenges. The backlash was extreme and it changed later on where you progress by just playing.
This is the competition that Overwatch needed. Rivals is about to pop off
Actually peak having you not have to rush to get everything on the Battle pass since you can always get it without worrying about having everything on the battle pass gone
Fiiiiiiine! Im sold. I'll be playing the game when I can get it. Much better battlepass system
They gave Wolverine his old ability to super heat his claws!? That's awesome!!
I love battlepasses that you can finish whenever like the ones in Deeprock and Decieve Inc. since I don't have enough time to game as much to unlock the skins I want.
letting you complete the battlepass at any time justifies it for me to dump a lot more money than originally planned
huge W
I was a DPS Doom player so I'm super excited for a game that embraces the malay combat.
Ya, they have definitely won me over. The battlepass system, the monetization, and all heroes for free is just amazing. Definitely giving this game a shot!
Love the X they made with the Fast Ball Special. He's not an X-Men he's THE XMAN
If I'm not feeling the game for a while but like the costumes I can just hop on, buy it and be done for a while
I love cloak and dagger that looks so fun
God I wish everything wasn’t already moving away from ps4 era I still haven’t gotten a 5 or a PC
After playing since 2017. Only missing a like 2 seasons due to me being in basic combat training. Its time I finally give up the game I "used" to love. If marvel keeps up this hype I will leave overwatch unless overwatch matches the competition. A statement i never thought id say
the battle pass sounds like mythic shop in overwatch in the concept the way you can get stuff even if you didn't finish it the previous season
If anything the battle pass for rivals maybe similar to the ones in Hell Divers 2. HD2 uses Medals as currency and you can buy what you want and not everything in each section.
7:00 roughly an additional 16.8% extra Lattice for purchasing it for $100
allowing you to go back to old battlepasses also negates account selling which is a huge W
loki s2 skin looks GORGEOUS def will buy
Not having to worry about finishing the BP is HUGE
I can't wait for Deadpool!
YO THAT MVC2 MUSIC!!! LFG! See me in the collection any of y’all!
This is gonna be like if battleborn and over watch had a child and I’m so pumped.
Finally someone to put the pressure on OW2
I feel like marvel rivals has the chance to massively influence the gaming industry’s relationship with battle passes and monetisation
Sounds like the battle passes work more like a special shop that unlocks stuff as you buy the passes then you earn the coins to buy items from that shop.
Being able to take my time with the BP instead of it feeling like a second job is huge to me.
13:54 this is the helldivers 2 format
The option to finish a battle pass whenever after buying is amazing.
As someone who works a ton and doesnt have alot of free time i would actually pay extra for a battle pass for the ability to complete it later would be awesome really hope it does become industry standard
Makes me a little sad about overwatch because they could never. Hope Marvel rivals is the kick in the ass blizzard needs to kick it into high gear
Actually crazy how good this game looks
