Those who loved Luther didn’t rush perfection. His vocal skills and his ability to connect to every human emotion was truly Gods gift to our world. Nobody did it better than Luther Vandross!!
This concert was at Wembley Arena, not the Stadium. It held about 11,500 people, and in March/April 1989 Luther performed 10 sold-out shows there as part of his 'Any Love' album tour. 'Live At Wembley' is on DVD and features songs from one of the 10 concerts. I know these things because I was at one of these shows! It was the first of 5 times I saw Luther live at Wembley Arena. He was in a class of his own - Luther was (and always will be) the greatest male vocalist I've ever heard, and to see him live was a huge privilege. Thank you for reacting to this performance, it brings back wonderful memories. Check out his rendition of this song as a tribute to Dionne Warwick at the NAACP awards in 1988 - Luther is singing live to a backing track of the studio recording, and his vocal mastery is astonishing, the audience are in raptures over it. Also, Luther's rendition of 'Superstar' live at Wembley is another showstopper 👏❤🇬🇧
That he was a music teacher and backup singer for Chaka Khan and then lead for the group CHANGE and was so humble. He is missed. 🕊🕊👑👑🕊🕊 - he was a Vocal Bible❤
I cannot listen to a slow ballad by Luther if I'm traveling on public transportation, because I start to tear up. Luther was an amazing singer. I had the honor of seeing him at Madison Square Garden. I never screamed and clapped so much. I am a true Luther fan.
Oh my God, same. Saw him at the garden with Anita. He sang Superstar and it was one of the top 10 spiritual experiences of my life. I tear up thinking about it. 👑
I saw him in concert a couple of times. He was amazingly gifted and talented. You sat quietly and allowed his silky voice to caress and wrap around you. I'm so grateful for the gift of music he left for us to enjoy.
Now check out Luther singing A House Is Not A Home at the NAACP Awards show, I believe it was in 1988. He sang it in dedication to Dionne Warwick. He gave a masterclass on standing flat footed and sangin! Some people's faves in today's music could neva😂 RIParadise Luther "The Best R&B Male Vocalist Ever" Vandross🙏🏽❤️
This is the first time I have seen your podcast! I have to say it was quite satisfying watching you two list and appreciate luther!! You need to listen to the entire live concert with your headphones on blasting! You didn't see how many backup singers, choirs, full Orchestra and Luther's band ! Just amazing! Also he had all their costumes made by hand that cost 20k each. I just saw the new biography at the theater two days ago and it was awesome!! He is the man! You should learn about the ups and downs of his life. I saw him four different times at different venues. Unfortunately he was a very lonely man 🫶
That he was a music teacher and backup singer for Chaka Khan and then lead for the group CHANGE and was so humble. He is missed. 🕊🕊👑👑🕊🕊 - he was a Vocal Bible❤
I love Luther Vandross. I got to attend one of his concerts not too long before he died. He was amazing. My big sister got us tickets when I went to visit her in California. Best visit ever. Thanks for reacting to this incredible live performance.
You guys have to react to superstar live from the same show I believe. Incredible vocals from Luther and his background singers, especially lisa fischer.
I’m 66 and I’ve never been on a cruise and I’ve never been out of the country but I have been on the front row to see Luther perform live; I don’t feel cheated!
Amazing performance. One of the greatest singers ever. I like the video of House is not a Home that he did at the 19th Annual NAACP Image Awards event with Dionne Warwick reacting in the audience. He just goes off into a massive adaptation of the song and improvised sections of the song. It gives you chills how he commands the audience with Berry Gordy and Quincy Jones in attendance watching and absolutely mesmerized by how he delivers the song. The greatest performance ever!
The world is filled with so much hatred and ugliness that one can't help but feel despondent at times but then you hear Luther's gifted voice and are reminded that there is also good and beauty in the world too.
I've been listening to the song since I was in elementary school. And I've never heard a backup singer. During this performance 💜💜💪🏾💯💪🏾💪🏾 I really miss these days.
Dionne Warwick originally recorded this song in 1964, so in a tribute to her, Luther sang it to her at the NAACP Awards. It was an EPIC performance. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/2nOA9Fw8AZI/v-deo.htmlsi=gbzs_zkWd67wJQ5B
Outside of Marvin Gaye Luther is the next Smoothie Song singer in this year side of town evidently your side cuz Marvin is smooth and Luther came right behind him that was just what we needed
Luther's music has the ability to touch each and every person soul with his music! I see how you were touching your heart he touched you too! Thank you for sharing! Luther Vandross my favorite singer ever! ❤
I’ve seen Luther at least 10 times in Detroit at the Masonic Temple in the 80s and 90s, and every show was outstanding! I really miss going to his concerts.
This whole concert is great. Not only is Lisa Fisher on stage singing backup Ava Cherry, who sang backup with Luther on David Bowie's Young American is also on stage.
I saw Luther at Nissan Pavillon on a beautiful warm summer night. It’s was phenomenal to see him outside, full moon and Luther at his absolute best. #perfection
Luther's was one of the few concerts I've attended where the audience was mostly silent aside from cheers or applause and didn't dare try to sing with the artist.
Luthers voice was the silkiest voice that ever put his vocal cords to sing notes. He has the best voice play and the best runs ever sung! I saw Luther in concert and it was one of the best concerts I had ever attended!
I was fortunate enough to see Luther live. I’ll never forget it. Don’t know if it’s already been recommended, but check out my fav by him - “If Only for One Night”. Love your appreciation for Luther. He was a one of a kind artist. RIP 🕊️
THE best male vocalist to have ever lived, PERIOD! BIG UPS to you guys for helping keep Luther's legacy alive!
Yes! Why nobody talks about Luther anymore is beyond me.
👑🙏🏿💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
It ain't even close.
Yes. It's is, Fat Freddy Jackson...
I'd say 2nd only to the anointed late Rev Daryl Coley.
His voice should be in the library of congress
Every elevator in the world ❤
Luther did a mic drive-by! 🎤 That was hard-core, vocally gangster!!!!!
LMAO It took me out! Was not expecting that.
You got that right...OG!

Luther Vandross knew how to put on a show. The audience hung on to each note.Silence out of respect for the genius of this man.

Yessss , Luther Vandross was and still is the baddest...us Luther fans truly miss him, his music is timeless❤....
I remember waving my aunty off to go and watch this concert. She loved it. We have always been a huge Luther family.
I wasn't too thrilled with their comments on various Wembley's he was "really" performing.
Funny.. .. I was going to say to listen to the NAACP time he sang that.
Superstar is above and beyond!
I grew up with Luther, he was phenomenal and you guys are hilarious.
Luther’s vocal cords were made of steel & iron and polished with a gold finish.
That he was a music teacher and backup singer for Chaka Khan and then lead for the group CHANGE and was so humble. He is missed. 🕊🕊👑👑🕊🕊 - he was a Vocal Bible❤
Well said!
@@kimberlybecoatstudio7020I loved the group CHANGE.
OMG!! That first note with him walking past the mic made me spit out my drink. Full belly laugh. I love it. LMAO - rip LV
He is One Of the Greatest Entertainers PERIOD 💯

Bummer, I only saw him five times.
Bummer I only see him three times @@WenD-md9lb
The way men always get so excited about what the bass guitars and drums are doing in a song never ceases to make me chuckle.
Doc Powell was the man.💯 Him and Luther together were a powerhouse. Legendary.
My good Lord, I love this man. Miss his voice so much.
I am tearing up, and he hasn't started to sing.
This man's vocals are insane
This man sold out Madison square garden, The Atlanta dome. 30,000 and 40.000 strong. He is a super star. many Grammys.
Luther's estate owes a LOTTA Brothas money for child support, because you KNOW tens of thousands of babies were born because of his music! 😂😂😂

even THE Mariah Carey said she would literally be scared to sing beside Luther & that was the only singer she felt that way about
Well, she did just fine - Endless Love
@@brynneholt1990 ....she was the one who recommended the song...and to duet with him ....she is a GENIUS for that....
And Aretha 😊
He was the embodiment of talent , artistry, and style. Missed so much. No one could top him and it was without enhancements, too. ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
When he said “This is Big Luther,” I was like YES!! HE KNOW!!
I was like, he's bloody rude.

I was going to ask this as well
He sang it to Dionne because she recorded it first. He was a huge fan of hers.

His musical director was the great Nat Adderley Jr.
The 80s were all about sequins, shoulder pads, and spangles.
It’s for stage presence instead of jeans and a tshirt. It’s a cultural thing in our 🖤community.
I saw Luther at Wembley Arena, and it was really magnificent. I still remember it well.
This and Superstar are the two best covers by Luther ever 👏🏾
I forgot they were covers lololol he made them HIS.

It was at Wembley Arena, a smaller and more intimate venue, with fantastic acoustics. The best concert I have ever been to. ❤
Love him, saw him twice in concert

For years Luther honed his craft from singing backup for various artist, from rock to R n' B
I love when we can embrace and appreciate each other's cultures....the world is so much better for it.
The world is filled with so much hatred and ugliness that one can't help but feel despondent at times but then you hear Luther's gifted voice and are reminded that there is also good and beauty in the world too.

Luther and Whitney were absolute professionals when it came to singing. They aspired to be unique and the best.
