@@Rikard_A Have you forgotten about the Romans!! You are not looking at the history of Europe and the many forms each country had over 000's of years. Rome was founded as a kingdom in 753 BC and became a republic in 509 BC. The Roman Republic then unified Italy. Part of Germany was part of Prussia before it was Germany. Prussia was located where today we would find Germany and Poland. The concept of Germany as a distinct region in Central Europe can be traced to Julius Caesar, who referred to the unconquered area east of the Rhine as Germania, thus distinguishing it from Gaul.

7:36 - Portuguese here. I was 9 years old in 1974 when a military revolution put an end to the dictatorship (the longest one in Europe). I remember watching TV when I was 5 or 6, still during the dictatorship, in the single TV channel we had back then and even in a state controlled media situation, there were news from all over the world in the two news segments they broadcasted during the time of day they were on the air (around 15 hours).
@@loners4life - Interesting is kind of an understatement. Although in the later years of the dictatorship the lack of freedom of speech, the secret police control or the censorship wasn't has strong as in the previous 2 decades, there was still some degree of it. As a young kid I didn't feel it that much (probably because I didn't understand it) and things like my primary school having two separate buildings (one for the boys and one for the girls) or seeing our soldiers (who were fighting in the african colonies' wars) sending greetings to their families every Christmas on TV, were kind of "normal" (my father is a professional soldier and did tours in all the colonies' wars, that's probably why). That said, there was a small opening to the outside world in those later years and we were able to watch american cowboys' movies and cartoons or british TV series, all subtitled. That was one of the reasons why many people of my generation speak English so well, we were exposed to it from a very young age. My mom once said that one day (it was before I was in school) she caught me in front of the TV reading some of the words in the subtitles and saying some of the English words of whatever I was watching. 😄

Most "parts of Canada" are different than "parts of Canada" to be honest. The US is fairly... insulated. There is so much "US" material that both your history and your news seems to largely ignore the happenings everywhere else. I mean all countries focus on their events, but the US seems to take it to a different level. The different areas do have slightly different, occasionally drastically different, cultures. Quebec is an obvious one because it is rooted in French culture. The Maritimes too have a distinct culture...

7:40 I'm from Germany and of course we learned about the history of other countries even if it didn't involve us. The history classes are of course time restricted so learning about everything everywhere is impossible, and the focus was definetly European history, starting with antiquity all the way to today. However we did learn some basic (past Columbus - the native american history was almost entirely neglected) history of the Americas, India and East Asia (mostly China and the Mongols) as well. African history (except ancient Egypt and during colonialism) was mostly ignored though which is a shame. That said - I did ask my teacher once about this and he said that he'd love to teach more about these topics as well, but the limited amount of time simply left no space for that.
in the uk we get a lot of tv shows about the history other countries and cultures as well as our own which helps to round out our knowledge of world history, as basic high school history was 2 hours a week (no where near enough time to fit it all in), think that's a difference between Europe and the U.S tv is seen as a way to educate as well as entertain here whilst in the U.S it's more about chasing the ratings

When we are kids we are not too interested in any history but as adults we are more interested in it. Americans and Canadians have a very similar accent and I can tell the difference only if I hear someone say aboot instead of about and I know not every Canadian says aboot. Americans are not told much about how other countries work because they might face the controllers and say " we are the only country that lives as a business" and that makes them have to look at things differently
"LIES THE USA TOLD ME ABOUT GERMANY (and everywhere else in the world)" from Hayley Alexis could be interesting for you. She is, well, lets say a little bit atypical American, says what she thinks and makes fun of both the US (mostly) and us Germans where appropriate in her own special way. But also deals with serious topics very well with facts and research.
Vancouver is a city in British Columbia, which is a province on the west coast, just notth of Seattle, Washington. Montreal is about 2/3 French-speaking and 1/3 English-speaking. Another Canadian from Toronto here...For many years I had good friends in Ann Arbor Michigan who I would visit a few times each year. 4:15 "i think British Columbia is the one in the middle" 😭 it's the furthest to the left oh and the Canadian city closest to New York state would be Niagara Falls which has a bridge directly into Buffalo, then it would be cities like Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston etc. Montreal is around 50km(31 miles) from the New York State border.
You think Montreal's on the East Coast, British Columbia is in central Canada and Vancouver's in the east somewhere and you need to ask what Canadians think of you?
I think there's no shame in admitting you don't know or remember everything. For example, if you just ask me the capital city of Denmark, I might have to look it up because I don't remember. But having a general idea of where the country is important, that comes from the study of geography. The problem is, as US citizens, they can't even name their states. As a former Indian I can name all states there, and as a Canadian, I can name all provinces here. US people have so much pride on their country, yet they don't know their own stuff.

I find alot of Americans have trouble being critical of their own issues and if a Canadian or even a Brit asks questions they get really defensive. As a rule of thumb, Canadians will talk mad shit about their own country and politics and the American seens this as a greenlight for why their country is better, and not the fact that we are comfortable enough and carefree enough to openly judge and critique our nation. Its almost Un-American to talk shit about American things. Its like theyve been conditioned to think this way. The best way to talk with an American is to not talk politics or news at all. They are the best...just ask them. Theyll tell ya.
Following the Seven Years' war between New France and Britain, the British parliament imposed punishing taxes on its American colonies in order to pay itself back the high cost of the war. The colonies didn't take this lying down. Decisions were being made about them across the ocean and they didn't feel represented in the process. This launched the resentment that would build to the American revolution. No taxation without representation. It didn't help that their recent enemies (the newly conquered province of Quebec) were being treated with kids gloves by Britain. The French in North America were given the right to freely keep their church and practice their religion (Catholicism) and keep much of their seigneurial system of government. The Oath to the king was modified to allow their secular leaders to stay in power. All this was done to placate the French, as it was understood by Britain that there were more of THEM in the Saint Lawrence valley than there were English British subjects. For a people whose founding myth was that of Plymouth rock and the Puritan pilgrims fleeing religious oppression in Britain to Massachussetts, this was quite unpalatable. American eceptionalism is alive and well to this day in all your media and culture.

Your comment about you don’t learn anything about world history unless you were involved? World War I, world war 2, do you think it was just the US and Germany? This is one of the areas the education system has failed you. You’re not taught anything beyond your own borders.
You should watch American Revolution oversimplified to see why, if it was to get away from the government the government wouldn't of spent all their money defending the colonies from against the french. It was pretty much to look for money making opportunities and to set up trade with England also some wanted to get away from the church. hence why England needed to tax the colonies because they'd just spent a ton of money defending them.
The British Colonies (which would eventually be the beginning of the USA) were originally established for trade and commerce to BENEFIT Britain! Then immigration started, including the Pilgrims who left England because they felt society was too free and liberal and established an ultra religious CONSERVATIVE society/settlement in the Americas, setting the future of much ssof the USA's conservative/isolated (somewhat restrictive/backward world view).

Just prior to the Revolution, British tax rates stood at between 5-7%, dwarfing Americans' 1-1.5% tax rates it was about self government and keeping the slaves. Peace out
The thing about history classes... It just makes sense to study human history as such. And there is a logical and meaningful concept. You start where civilization first rose from the Stone Age. And although the history of our culture begins about 12,000 years ago, we can easily forget the first 6,000 years because we have very little data about it. But if you are interested, then check out something about Göbekli Tepe. Otherwise you start with the Sumerians and slowly work your way through antiquity via the Egyptians and all the peoples from the fertile crescent to the Minoans and Greeks. This is the beginning of the cultural history of Europe, which was then also essential for the emergence of the USA. The trick is to only look at things that are exciting. The Egyptians are way ahead and doing things like building pyramids, while in England they are tinkering with gross things like Stonehenge. So why waste time looking at England when there are pyramids to admire... And so you work your way through history until your own people emerge from the shadows and step onto the stage of history. Btw... The 3 young dudes are high as hell...

Even today, half of them want to reelect a career criminal, scofflaw traitor as President. Despite the fact that he has no religious convictions, many of these dummies think he has been chosen by God to keep the USA Christian.
less then a trivial point
Why should they...........you may have a soft spot for crazy puritan zealots...........l am happy without them.
I went to school in Canada and I remember learning about Canadian history and Geography but also the rest of the world to some degree. I remember doing a report on the fishing industry in Greece once.
Nice! That’s good they had you do that
regarding USA, we covered the Monroe doctrine and Manifest Destiny, two that obviously affect Canada
Talking about accents, as a brit americans and canadians can sound similar but it suprised me when i was mistaken for an australian in the u.s. Apparently we sound quite alike to americans to my ear the difference between the english accent and the australian is as big as the difference ours and the american accent
The 5 main cultural regions of Canada from west to east:
The Northern Territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut)
Pacific Canada (British Columbia)
The Canadian West (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba)
Metropolitan Canada/Eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec)
The Maritimes/Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador)
We Atlantic Canadians say we are from eastern Canada, though! As we are farthest east.
Wow that’s crazy! You must have lived through some interesting times!
I grew up loving American movies and music , beautiful country and great nation .
But the boastful bragging , and general ignorance of the rest of the world takes away everything praise worthy .
We don’t blame you for that haha
I mean European people also brag a lot but they dont make it so obvious
@@E85stattElektroNo, actually we're not bragging. What are we supposed to brag about? On the contrary, we are constantly complaining about everything and how bad Europe is doing compared to earlier times
@@inotoni6148 People buy expensive clothes which do not look expensive, other than in the US where everything is with logos. Also for example the expensive cars here will mostly be in a neutral color and not in bright colors like in the US. I would say you generally have more understatement in Europe. Thats what i mean. In the US everyone tries to look rich but is broke and here everyone who is wealthy tries to not show it too much.
@@E85stattElektro I feel Americans overspend over credit all their wants and desires they feel entitled to they buy then complain about inflation. Every time you use your credit it ups your inflation, Biden didn't make you over spend on credit. In Canada our inflation is very high but Biden didn't do it Trudeau did it. I don't get how they feel they can blame Biden for everything when trump is apparently very rich but he has to beg supporter's for money? Paying the man money for his legal fee's you want him so bad. He left the highest debt behind when he left yet Americans just can translate than into fact. Maybe he should get a job.
America used to be an interesting place to visit, I don't go there now tho, Cuba feels safer.
I am definitely looking forward to visiting the West coast and Alaska. Heard many good things about the national parks there.
Cuba is THE go to place for Canadians much much better than the USA! ❤

The answers are not their opinions. They are answering to the question of "what are the typical stereotypes of americans (usa)".
Americans: we thought Canadians liked us! Canadians: what why?!
Canadian here, from Alberta. Yes a, we learn WORLD HISTORY. we had to know each state and its capital, plus other countries of the world. YOU also have no idea why the people “fled” the UK and TheNetherlands. They were the American taliban and wanted to persecuteANYONE who did not follow their extreme beliefs, so they went to the Americas to persecute anyone who didnt believe in their religion. 🙄
I was born in Jamaica. Now a Canadian citizen. Here in Canada right now I'm watching NBC news and I can switch any other US news. You guys know nothing about Canada. Why?
It's always funny to see, how Lynda is always cleaning Brian's eyes in nearly each episode 😂. I think that she always sticks something in, so that she can clean it in the next episode 😂😂
I once saw a Reddit post asking what we non-Americans think of them and they said the way the rest of America looks at Florida 😂😂😂. Also shouting USA in unnecessary situations ain't it😂

I'm Canadian and can label all the provinces and territories of Canada. But I can also label every U.S. state on a map. We probably learn more about everywhere else than we do of our own country. Mais Je parle francais un peu!
These are good points

We will check this out! Thanks 🙏🏻
Vancouver is a city in British Columbia, which is a province on the west coast, just notth of Seattle, Washington. Montreal is about 2/3 French-speaking and 1/3 English-speaking. The rest of Canada is about 95% English-speaking. Most francophones in Québéc identify as Québécois first and Canadian second.
THAT is American! Citing: "There is less govenment involvement" as a positive 😂.
Another Canadian from Toronto here...For many years I had good friends in Ann Arbor Michigan who I would visit a few times each year. Watching US news there always amazed me that there was VERY little world news coverage unless something major was happening and it somehow affected US. In Canada coverage is about 1/3-1/2 Canadian news and the rest is world news.
I got to talk with US warranty support and when I said Rosewell he kept correcting me saying Roswell, the whole incident was funny, I admire American music.
Kind of brainwash!? Lol I dont think it’s a ‘kind of’ kind of situation…
The dude in the Chanel shirt completely missed the point 😂 who doesn’t have an accent outside of their own country!? 😂
These stereotypes Canadians have about Americans are the same us Australians…and probably the world tbh.
Stereotypes come about from facts but we know they don’t apply to everyone.
Oh another note re the stereotypes that Americans have on Canadians I have found to not be so kind - calling them boring and slow etc
went to school n the 60's. we learned geography all through school but in grade 9 it was geography only. world geography. we learned latitute and longitude , geographical size , learned to read topographical maps of countries, how high above sea level, size of population , main exports and imports, captials and important lesser cities etc etc etc.
4:15 "i think British Columbia is the one in the middle" 😭 it's the furthest to the left
oh and the Canadian city closest to New York state would be Niagara Falls which has a bridge directly into Buffalo, then it would be cities like Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston etc. Montreal is around 50km(31 miles) from the New York State border.

Canadian here: Just to eleviate any misconceptions our American friends may have, no our national cuisine isn't whale blubber sandwiches. 😅

Our geography and history classes taught us both Canadian and American history. Also, we learned about world history and major events throughout history
british columbia is above washington state and below alaska. vancouver is on the pacific coast above the border with washington state. of course, if your still stumped by the locations of alaska and washington, then I weep for you.

Vancouver is West, Manitoba is more in the centre.
Puritans went to america because they were at odds with the anglican and catholic churches . they got their supplies from britain by ship, they didnt want to pay duty on their imports, which had been raised because the prince regent was in debt, so raised the duty tax on supplies . paul reveres ride was somewhat later in your history
I’m Australian and we learned about the whole world with a focus on the British Commonwealth ( of course). However, we did learn the history of China, Russia, Greece , India , to name a few, so we did actually learn about most countries ( their history and geography). I’m not sure if that is still true as ,unfortunately , the general educational standard has gone down in recent years.
I am Canadìan when I was in school history class we went through the world and for the basics of each country
To my point of view from France 🇫🇷 I love Scandinavian countries especialyd Sweden 🇸🇪 or Norway 🇳🇴.

Nice!
U.S. intelligence back some time ago some U.S citizens came upon myself and friends in either July or August with skis on top of their vehicle asking us where the snow 🌨️ was. It was hard to contain our laughter. Finally telling them it's thousands of miles north of where they were but they didn't believe us
In canada we had to learn American history and geography and about the world starting in public school
The people are as diverse as the country itself...much like you!
I am polish I learned in school about world history same goes for geography it was not only centered on Poland far from it
Even though this video is really old you could have done some research. You have no idea about the geography and we only have 10 provinces and 3 territories. Your comment about you don’t learn anything about world history unless you were involved? World War I, world war 2, do you think it was just the US and Germany? This is one of the areas the education system has failed you. You’re not taught anything beyond your own borders.
World history by definition is that you learn about all the other countries in the world.
I hope that from all the videos you've reacted to, it's clear that there's a lot wrong in the US, and only for the benefit of a few.
Interesting! We will check this out!
British Columbia is not in the middle of Canada, the province of British Columbia is located on the west coast of canada.
if you see someone nice and say, "oh, they must be Canadian, not from here". Then, you also have the same American stereotype than Canadians do
BC is above Oregon. It’s on the West Coast.

There is so much that can be commented on this topic. I'll keep it short. Canada is 2nd largest country in the world with just 40 million pop. 80 per cent of the pop lives just north of the US border. We are so so influenced by the US , it's news, it's movies, it's tv shows etc... check out history of pilgrims, British settling in New England , then some wanted their own country but Britain was still supporting the british in what is now the US. The persons in the street interviews were a little over the top, we really don't think like that. Americans are awesome neighbours!! Keep up the good work :)
"Americans don't know their geography"... So Montreal is a city in Quebec, and BC is on west coast.
No - "world" history is about the world... Not the US. Lmao. I'm Canadian and learned about the whole world, not just Canada. That took about a week. Canada is a young country.

My stereotype of the United States of America is it's a nation that doesn't even know the name of their own country. There are two Americas north and south. The name of their country is the United States of America. Meaning it's a group and many states that united as one in the continent of North America to form a nation

I enjoy your site fist time on here I do watch another American in Canada show, he is funny. He did a section on Strictly Canadian Memes and it could work both way and it was hysterics. Canadians know so much about the US we almost forget we are not in the US we are so wrapped up in all the chaos we barely have time to think about our own elections. I feel stress when I think US. Guns- rude-feel entitled to things- you don't like to share, you hate other languages, and ethnics, you love to rev up protesting over everything, never admit your wrong, too involved in government to a point of extremism. People used to go to the US every summer for vacations I would never visit the US now. I live in Victoria British Columbia. Our education system is very in-depth all thru to university. Actually there are provinces all along the US and you are right there across a road. BC is NOT in the center. we are the last province on the west coast, then the next is Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island. Some people are bad and if someone is a jerk they say "ah he's probably American". Kind of like if someone is nice you say they must be Canadians. I don't notice accents mush but I think you drop some letter's in the sound of some words, like r's-there's more can't think don't care we love you. And one of the laws the British had was the banning of slavery and the American colonist was being built its colony using slavery even George Washington had slaves so the way i see it the war of so called independence was about keeping slavery not taxes the Colonial and Early Americans paid a very low tax rate, both by modern and contemporary standards. Just prior to the Revolution, British tax rates stood at between 5-7%, dwarfing Americans' 1-1.5% tax rates it was about self government and keeping the slaves. Peace out
If you think British Columbia is in the middle of Canada you reinforce some stereotypes about American ignorance.
