GIVEAWAY 57 Chevy Runs! and it Runs Good! - Road to 57k Subscribers

- Dead in a field to garage burnouts in less than a week! The giveaway BelAir was definitely a little more stuck that I had originally hoped for. The motor wasn't a hard or expensive fix but fairly labor intense. Once I got the oil pressure issue solved I moved onto the fuel system.
You guessed it, that didn't go well either. The old fuel pump was busted so I replaced it with one I had in stock, clicked it on and nothing....... Something along the line was plugged and not allowing fuel to flow up stream. Well apart it came to be cleaned. Success! I had fuel flowing now.
After I bled the brakes I was planning to drive the car out of the garage. Well that didn't happen either..... All 4 wheel cylinders were locked up resulting in NO BRAKES. So apart the front brakes came and I replaced everything with a good used set I had on the shelf.
Finally it was time to go around the block. The car did great and I finished it off with a healthy garage BURNOUT!
It was a hard fought battle but ultimately a HUGE win in the end.

I know you want to get to the 56 , but I can’t understand why you’re not loving this 57 man . This car is badass!!!! p. s. Mellow exhaust is fine. I don’t want to piss off my neighbors too much.
My first car was a four-door 57 Chevy watching this video bring it back a lot of memories
@@dennycarter826 my Dad his family Carter's from Iowa and Illinois
I really like your matter-of-fact, low key style of narration while you work on the old '57. I'm enjoying this. I never did much wrenching back in the day, beyond basic maintenance.
I’m glad I found your channel! I don’t have an old car yet, and it’s great watching you show everything! There aren’t many you tubers with this approach! Keep it up man!
I purchased my first car in 1961. It was a 57 Chevy. One dealership wanted $700 for it. She was a jewel. No way could I afford car payments for this one but ended up with one that was $500. It gave be a lot of trouble with generator, transmission bands slipping, radiator plugged up, etc.etc. plus two people ran into the back of me. Ever since I got rid of it for a car I could depend on I dream of owning another 57 Chevy. A little too old for this dream to come true but it never hurts to dream. Good luck and God Bless.
Dan, I got very excited when you fired her up. I like it a four door, I’m an old man.😂 Yes, the chrome is all there on the car and in good shape. Danni warms my ❤️ She’s always happy and smiles and laughs in your videos. Nice work, always a pleasure to stop by your shop.
thanks so much thomas!
Wow.. what a find.. my dad had a powder blue w/white top 57 when i was young and had to sell it before i could drive.. what an awesome project looking forward to the finale
Burnouts in the garage is one way to seal the floor! Who needs that fancy gray speckled paint!
Happy Fathers Day to all the dad's out there! I am still leaning towards 4 door touring car, so I say quiet mufflers. Good work by the way getting her running so quickly.
I've had experience with engines that got a dose of water through them and they all seemed to actually run better ,some for years afterwards. That appears to be OK, even pretty quiet in fact ,lifter wise.
The panel fit looks really good so I'd tend to leave it as a Four door.
Can't wait to see your first 1/4 mile times in it.
Stumbled upon your site, best stumble I’ve had in quite a while. Like your approach and the actual delivery of the how too’s. Your garage looks like mine did when I was younger, mine looks a little less cluttered now, but I still lose stuff in it. Keep up the interesting show.
Leave it as is, the exhaust sounds fine, You've already done a 2 door conversion, leave it a 4-door. Let the next person do what they want with it. If they want a two-door, well you showed them how to do it. I love a two-door but only prefer the two door coupe, which would be a heck of a lot harder conversion. The next person likes of four-door, the next person likes a gaster, One person wants it black, one person wanted blue, one person one of the original patina. You can't please all of us and all of our taste, so just leave it to the next person. I would give it a good polish, and see how much that old thing will shine, I think a lot of that paint will come back. I would do a bunch of small improvements, making sure it's mechanically ready to roll, and is just a good car, worthy of being on the highway. Whatever you do don't push it in the creek, I will walk my fat ass all the way to Canada from Illinois, to pick it up before you do that LOL 🤪
You definitely got a find there. Love it when you discover vintage speed parts. Loud is always the way to go. Keep it a 4 door. It's always fun hot rodding with friends.
My favorite year for 50's model is 1957, I'm hoping who ever wins gives it a good home and uses it as a daily driver.
😊 Hi, I know it when I saw the rescue video, that you can make some good burnouts with a few adjustments. That Chevy had a soul of a street rod deep on his bones. I'm very happy and excited to saw that car making a good o'l fashion burnout. Thank's for rescue him.
thanks for watching!
I feel you when you say you're anxious to start on the 56.
Those 57's have such a nice body line. The fact its a 4 door doesn't spoil the looks at all. If it were mine i would do a gloss black paint job, and some 16" torque thrusts with some beffy rear tires and air shocks.
You’re going to have to break down and eventually rebuild that carburetor if you wanted to run right.🇺🇸👍🛠 I would still rather have the Shelby.
lol, I'm 77 years old and a sucker for old tanks like this--always wanted a 57, but life moved on way too fast, and suddenly I find myself living on social security and still dreaming of these cars--I sure hope whomever you donate it to will really appreciate it and maybe do a old style restore on it! $ door or not, it's a GREAT CAR!--Dan F.
When will you be delivering my 57 lol
My father and I worked on my first car that was a 57 Chevy 4 door it brings back old memory
haha when i make the subscriber count. share it around
Loving it more n more
.keep it 4 door!..pls keep up the shows..they are great!!
Boy who ever gets this car is going to have one sick period correct hotrod drag car!!!! Dude scored a badass ride right here, so sweet!!!!!!!! 202 camel hump heads,!!!! I had a steel crank 1965 sbc 327, with rv cam, hi rise edelbrock intake, 750 edelbrock carb, turbo 400 trans 3500stall from summit, it was in a 1973 chevy chyanne super orange/white ,10' of lift on 36' military oz, hummer tires, open front diff, mini spool rear, it was my first truck I was 16, built the whole thing with my dad!!!!
im thinking two door conversion, love watching that done
A man of your word, I like that. You said you would check things out regarding the issues with (Cora) this 57, and you did. Aaaamazzzing... You've went above and beyond. Louder mufflers would be good as it is quiet, maybe too quiet, lol. Then again that's sort of the guise of a sleeper, right? Thanks Dani for your donation of the front brake hardware. You're an amazing couple. Who ever wins this 57(Cora) is going to be a very lucky person. I wish you all the best with your 56, it'll be great as well. Thanks again for your page...
That spin on filter says the engine is at least a late 60's or early 70's at the oldest
Lotta guys put on spin on filter adapters on the older engines, myself included.
I put on a spin-on adapter on my '65 283 FWIW.
That car needs to be with me in Oklahoma 😁
@@deliveryguyrx My 61 283 has the spin adapter. What's it in? What kind of carb and intake are you running on the 283?
It's got to be two door. It's a project; do you push it aside until YOU decide. Work on the 56!!!
Two door it.
Your girlfriend has the most chipper cool attitude.
I realize you already have it running, however, from experience, you might wish to simply re-torque the heads, which can be done with the engine as it sits. ... I had a '55 with a SBC with the exact same problem ( Water in the oil ). ... I changed the oil / filter and re-torqued the heads ( Some bolts were NOT correct ) and had zero issues after that. ... Great Work, Keep it up.
Loud mufflers. I want the tuner kids across the road to hear a real motor.
Not too loud
You are so generous in these crazy times. We need more people like you to share the joy and love. Leave it a 4dr and don't butcher it. The chrome is too nice.
Keep it quiet for them long trips, just was out in my 40 Chevy a little loud with headers and all
your setup is simple and to the point. no smoke and mirrors just good ole classic salvage, repair and pavement punishing....tire terrorizing burnouts. does it get any better when your watching this with a beer and a bud !!!
I like quiet mufflers more than loud or no mufflers- old dude my butt- I'm only 74-
I'm a bit younger than you, Bob, 66, but like quiet mufflers and hearing my radio. Don't need to gun it and make lots of noise. I'm out for a drive, not to impress the boys.
Iam 66 years old i have smoked tires across a 100 foot shop with my 66 dodge coronet
Plastic coupler u wont pull pump shaft out the top
Is it water or anifreeze
Love the work you do! Make it safe, keep it cheap and have some fun! A set of turbo mufflers and full exhaust keeps everyone happy! A set of exhaust dumps would be nice for making noise occasionally when you are far away from home and the neighbors can't hear you! I would road trip this 57 to the new owner!
The 57 is beautiful as is👍
It is. Only thing I'd do is fix the wiperz...
This is starting to remind me of the grocery getter Chevelle my buddy bought. It was a two door but but bench seat, 307 badges, trailer hitch, stock rims with skinny tires, needed a tune badly. Once we get it tuned it ran too good. He punched it on the wet freeway and spun right around. After sitting on the side of the road for about 15 minutes while his heart slowed down we dug into it. Turned out to be a Corvette 327 small journal with power pack heads. We had a ton of fun in that thing.
I am in love with this car me and my wife and r three kids would never get out of it
Ok
I first came across your channel when I saw you converting the '55 from a four-door to a two-door and continued to see Danielle's '57 converted to a 2-door. I was and still am impressed in your skill and craftsmanship in the metalwork you did (I was hooked and subscribed to your channel). I said all that to say: I would like to see you do more fabrication in converting the '57 Chevy to a 2-door, using what you've learned on converting the two other shoeboxes to two-doors, and applying it to this build. Great channel, Dan!
thanks for all the support!
I've never liked 4 doors, but b this one is growing on me...
When it comes to the Mufflers, I would leave them alone. Please don't worry about any sponsorship either. The car is running, and driving. If I got a hold of it, I'd want to just as is, a project car. That way I can put my own special touches in it. Good job getting it running by the way!
Double Hump are the best of the Old School heads imho.
Now the only thing to wonder are they 194 size valves or the 202?
@@billstreber5194 That would be, 461x heads!
Needs to be converted to a 2 door! 7 out of 10 wants 2 door when it comes to a 57! Do it right Dan or just sell it now!
Old guy says...yep.
Camel hump heads 202 .. ported and jetted 🧐
I was born in 57 and use to own a body shop in Ogden Utah called DJs auto body. I’d love to restore something like this for my kids before I go home!!!!!
Glass pack muffs !!! 🤘🏻
I really like the sound of the mufflers on your Nova. I usually prefer a 2 dr., but this is a sharp little 4 - dr. car. I really enjoy watching your videos. You make everything look much easier than it actually is! Great job.
yeah the nova sounds so damn good
@@DDSpeedShop I also live in Manitoba, so I totally understand when you make comments about the weather. We live just n.w. of Brandon. We have owned our 57 Bel-Air since 1980.
Gotta get glasspacks!!! Make it loud!
Sponsorship? Why not, if you can get some donated parts and it might even help the channel, go for it! Maybe some turbo mufflers, let a little sound through. I'm kinda liking the 4 door on this one, can't believe I'm saying that but I am. Keep up the good work, awesome vid!
Loving the content!!! New to the channel but imma watch every freakin day, keep up the good work man!!
Go back and look at all his chevy mods and restoration and the buildup of the 32 ford
Hey Dan haven't seen a comment on the water , I'm thinking with the loose distributor , you may have pushed water in it when you power washed it ??? Good to see you getting her running, I've done all three 5 6 7 and working on 57 4 door now . Your traveling same road I have my whole life . It's the thrill of the hunt that's got you !! Good luck
Sweeeeet!!!
Edit I meant to say sweeeeet another video 🤣. Loud-ish Mufflers😁
The patina on the paint job looks amazing. Maybe add a racing number to the doors that looks aged & clear coat only. Make it look like a vintage race car. 🤷🏼♂️ I think it would be awesome
i just wanted to take the time to thank you DD speed shop for having a heart for your fellow man and women to be doing a good thing like giving a running car away ......... YOU THE MAN .... PS. CHERRY BOMB EXHAUST old school bro :-)..........
on a manual transmission you pull in your clutch turn off your ignition pump the gas pedal tern on your ignition and pop the clutch and see if that don't rattle the neighbors windows and piss them off LOL.,,,, cherry bomb
I think it needs to be louder.. like hot rod pipes out the side.. awesome work man
Loud mufflers, Glasspack bullets maybe. Cool car, don't know why soneone would hotrod 4 Dr but I'd take it. 😆
My mom never quite understood burnouts IN the garage...but the smell of hot tire tread....smells like VICTORY.
iam 70 and still work on my owe cars
thats awesine!
Nice series of this beauty. Since not original motor & modified, might as well convert it to a 2 door. Never a fan of glasspacks, something a bit throaty like Magnaflow or Borla if they will discount/sponsor.
14:08 your hood prop is a Teamu Selanne TITAN?
Oooh moneybags
I was thinking that myself. LOL.
1 it’s a canad thing lol 😂
Mosr Canadian thing ever
You know you're in Canada when...
Dan, great news on oil pressure issue. Just keep the old girl like she sits. It screams old school drag racer. If you had the tune parts I will be happy to reimburse you for them as well as the pump on "my car"! 👍😁
I saw gas that color referred to as "Morning Piss Yellow." lol
You must have watched Mustie1 work on that old Yamaha...
@@regabernathy6039 Thats where I saw it too!
I would leave the exterior and paint the way it is, gives it that mean character. It would also make a Great sleeper car.Great job on the car so far! Thanks for the chance to make my wife and family really happy.
tell ur friends! lets make the sub goal so i can give it away.
57 is my favorite tri-five. Go get the following your channel deserves! Love from Minnesota.
I really enjoy you videos because its like going next door helping out a neighbor! Not a prepped edited tv show in a clean staged shop! Its real world lol, Im glad I stumbled on to your channel, Im all ready getting hooked on the progress, winning the car is a great bonus, I would suggest to get help from sponsors and viewers, you never know who is watching !
Chop it into a two door!! Pool and garage are still open for when you bring it down lol!
hahaha thanks buddy!
Beautiful automobile. You are so generous to give it away. Hopefully the new owner really appreciates this beaut. Keep wrenching!
I'm trying to figure out how much it's going to cost to ship the car to Florida when I win it !! Lol 😁👍
I live in Georgia, so you will have a short trip to visit when I win.
@@mikeobrien3744 I live in Indiana, stop by on the way through.
Flying in driving it back to Iowa 😬
Chevy is going to get a N.Z citizenship, very shortly.... chevy will send all you guys a postcard,
Greetings from Jamaica, W.I... How to ship it without papers? Let me know, hmm cannot sleep. Respect, nice project, mon!
That blue canister mounted to the side of the transmission is a vacuum operated modulation valve. It is what tells the transmission to kick into passing gear. I'm loving that car more with each video. Old school cherry bombs would be good for the mufflers.
Hey Dan and Danni , Were just fine . You folks are super busy .New '56 is kool, new '57 is super kool. Just watchin' ,smiling for you guys , and knowing a good job is in the works . Things are opening up and '32 is getting closer to making it's voyage to a new home . Same family just at little brother's place ,it will always be my big brother 's hot rod . Guess if I get to go kruzing to be at a future car show with him I'll find out what it's like drive 300 miles.
I enjoy watching you work on the Tri Fives. My 56 has been sitting a year waiting for me to get going on it but my garage is too small and I already have a almost finished project in there now. Hopefully soon.
Right on!
2 Door please, and as long as anything is still possible, 6.2 LS and disc brakes. However it turns out will be great though! Thanks for all the great videos!.
Yesss!!!! This is awesome! Great detective work on the oil pump. Glad things are running better for me! Can't wait to get her on the road!
Slightly louder mufflers. Hey Dan if you are going to paint the 56 with a brush use the tipping method. Roll on the paint then use the brush to give it a smooth finish. They do this on sailboats. Utube it. Cheers
i will thnks!
Two door conversion is what made this channel famous! You need to do it!!!
Had one as my first hotrod. Great job! Keep it up. Sleeper muffler, quiet at idle and loud when into it.
My 57 chevy (2 door ,150 model ) story from 1995. There's a screen above the headlights on 57's, its a vent tube that brings in fresh air into your car & exits on your feet.
It was at night & I was on the freeway with about 5-6 car lengths behind the car in front of me.The guy in front of me flicks his cigarette out the window & it lands in between us . I see sparks fly.
A millisecond later, the cherry of that cigarette travels all the way thru the vent & bursts again at my feet like fireworks. I scared the crap out of me. What are the odds of that? I miss that car, 283 & 4 speed. Red & white with cherry bombs.
Loud mufflers! Cherry Bombs sound great and are period correct for a hot rod like that! Not the same thing as yours but, I broke an oil pump priming tool (the hex part on top of the tool) once when I tried spinning the pump in cold weather with 20-50 racing oil in the engine. The next time I spun the tool in cold weather, I pre heated the oil with a heat gun. No problem but I think I'm going to switch to 10-30 oil at the next oil change.
Another great video Dan! I’d like to own that jewel I’m partial to the 56 myself great work and therapy!
Dan.... not sure what you are better at... producing educational easy to watch fun videos.... or educational hands on repair tech tips. Either one is a top notch winner in my book. WELL DONE! CHEERS!
Thanks 👍

Truth should always be known. Praise JESUS
You probably give it away already but I love 57 Chevys ! I like your idea of restoring them.
Those heads are camel hump heads which is the old school way to stretch some power out of that SBC. Also you lucked out big time so far on that motor. As for what you should do regarding sponsorship? You can do plenty of lottery cars in the future.
Its coming alone. Loud twin mufflers will make it sound very good. You probably could even wet sand the paint a little and then just buff it back to a shine.
Love this car!!
My grandfather bought a strip model 57' 210 4 door.. his first new car ever!!..& he was a ww2 vet/ brick layer after the war..so tell's how blue collar he was..would love to win this & turn into a tribute car to him..the sponsor deal sounds cool...but maybe on just basics?...make the bascially run well..possibly a matching set of decent but cheap wheels..but not a bumper to. Bumper " big deal" if that makes sense? Lol..mufflers?..semi- loud/ throaty would be nice...loving the episodes...keep up the good work
i hear ya! help share it around so we can make it happen
No broken windows. Amazing! Great paint and body.
My dad once had an oil light come on in his 64 Merc six cyl. Side of the road but close to town. Oil shaft broke.. being Sunday , no one had the oil pump shaft in stock. Dad thought for a minute said hey where do you keep alle key wrench’s ? Matched it up, walked back to the car , it had broke in the distributor , so long needle nose , fished out shaft replaced it . Drove that car another 40 thousand miles. Sold it to a friend who drove it almost 100 thousand. An Allen key
I was 10 years old when this car was brand new. 55, 56, and 57...my favorite years for Chevy.
Don't you think EVERYONE, has a 2 door? Like EVERYONE has an LS?
Keep the 4. This is already a nice hot rod. Quiet mufflers. Same answer, EVERYONE, has loud mufflers
Nice thing your doing. 👍👍👍👍👍
The blueish module on the side of the trans us the vacuum modulator. If it has a nut on a shaft with a screwdriver slot it is adjustable. You can change how it shifts with that. Even though the book my say it won't work but that modulator will work in a th350 and a powerglide.
Nice! Double bump heads. Bigger valves, better breathing equals more hp/torque.
I am a fan of the 4 door makes the 57 a bit of a sleeper. Quiet mufflers are cool, glasspacks are classic but put some cutouts too please! Thanks!
Very knowledgeable, he really knows his vehicles. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
thanks for watching
Great job.. But a little bit to quiet.. It gotta at least have some kind of rumble.. Sad to see the T set aside for now but I'm a big Chevy fan.. So keep those 50's on going.. I'm a die hard 57 lover been looking for years but just can't find one in my price range around my area that's not rusted beyond repair... So for now I'll stay with my lifted K5 blazer life and watch you build these badass rides.. Your doing a great job and like always keep the wrenches on turnin and the tires on burnin.. Hell yeah..
The 4 door is cool I think it should stay that way. It's mostly old school so a set of "Thrush straight Mufflers" would suit it fine.
Loud mufflers. I would like the 2 door. And if I get it, I would like to roadtrip it back to NC!
Keep it as a four door "sleeper". Looks like a worn out four door family car on the outside, but under the hood and the drive line is where the muscle is located. See if some of the local auto parts stores can either give you some parts for a good plug on a video or maybe they can put you intouch with a sales/marketing rep from one of their suppliers who might be willing to sponsor part of this build.
Leave the exhaust quiet but add Electric Exhaust Cutouts. Use the Band Clamps for easy install and no welding. Quiet on the highway, open headers at car shows.
Great video Dan. My vote is for Glass Pack Mufflers. I think you should do the carb cleaner vacuum leak test to find/rule out leaks. If it has a performance cam in it you might want to bump the base timing up a few degrees. My two cents worth.
Thanks! Will do!
You got to change gear and trans oil. Get back brakes working. Change flexing hoses. Mechanics have got to be correct for new owner. Washing and polishing chrome the new owner can handle. After you get thirty eight thousand more subs off this deal and they watched all your vids I'm sure utube will be sending you a cheque. But you got to jazz this package up. Get the patina sorted. Finish interior. Floors. carpet. Polish the wheels up. You got to speculate to accumulate. Keep on it and put out the content. It will be gone in a month. Good luck. PS go find the cars history. Who built the engine. Who rodded it. It must be a local car.who did the interior. It would be interesting to know. Maybe find some old pics on the drag strip. Good luck again. That 56 is safe. It's in your hands. Good winter project. Enjoy your summer.
Leave it a 4 door! Mellow pipes. Cool looking ride
I like the four doors so I can go cursing with the family and loud or mild muffle doesn't matter. This was my father's favorite car, he always wanted one but was never able to get one so this makes me thank of him every time I see it. Good memories.
Don't do anything else, it's perfect as it. Sits. Quiet is cool. Steel wheel with dog dish hub cap look good on those cars
I would have guessed the nylon adapter between the dist and oil pump. I have had one fail before. I remember the good old days, laying on the cement, on my back, Camaro on jack stands, changing the clutch on the 302. Again, hmm too many stop lights. 🙄 😉 🏎
Happy Father's Day Mur! You did a fine job raising Dan and teaching him a thing or two about life. Perseverance, humility and always moving forward.
Like I said before in the comments, "A tidy and a tune is all that car needs!"
