Glad to watch video, your old man sure has a mean lick on working on quarter panel. He done a nice job , Boyd Cuddington would be proud . Keep on doing body work as most Guys would have done back in the day while racing, From the race stands looking to the track they always look good. no matter how rough they may look up close.
Worked Jack Smart Ford in the body shop in Greenwood IN in the mid 70's. Yes we brazed back then. Had a 1971 LTD convertible for 20 some years. Got tired of repairing rust all the time. Last time i pulled the wide trim off the side slathered axle grease under them. Used a Siphon with my air compressor and fogged motor oil in the quarters, doors, hood, deck lid, everywhere i could get every fall. Never ever had to do another rust repair.
Dwight Fann he is saving it. Doesn’t have to be laser straight or have a $20k paint job to be “saved”. He’s doing exactly what it needs to be a safe functional, and most importantly, a fun car.
I'm really amazed with how seamlessly you can move between the different project cars. Do a little on this car then a little on that one and you just keep moving around in your fleet. It's impressive. Good Work!
Awesome body work and fabrication. Too many people into car restoration reley way too much into body panel replacement. It is so much better to rework original panels like you guys did than replace. You would be surprised that this is the way higher end hot rod/classic car restoration shops do it. I use to work at one. I had a very close friend of mine that was the painter at one of the top hot rod shops in the U.S. he has had his work on the cover of magazines and on t v shows. Thats how he did it. He took a couple of panels on a 72 Chevelle wagon I had that was way worse then your Challenger. The panels turned out awesome and my car still retained its original sheetmetal. You are doing true home hot rod building and outstanding work. This is becoming one of the best TRUE Hot Rod shop channels. No need for Motortrend On Demand. THIS is how its done.
Much as you hate the bodywork, you'll really appreciate making it look good. You're doing all the hard work in patching and grinding old bondo. If it were mine I'd go ahead and lose the tree dent and paint it without getting into the vinyl roof. Just keep it the same racer/driver quality you're talking already. Really not that much more to do than what you're doing now. A garage/driveway paint job was regular business for race cars anyway. You got it going on though. Always enjoy seeing what n how you do it. Thanks for sharing
Get all the body work done. It's a classic and it's a nice piece when you get rid of it. It fills good when you see it on the streets knowing you fixed it to the best you could.
You do amazing work, and you make it look so easy to do! Really looking forward to the day when you go for a test drive in this Dodge Challenger! I think it will really rumble.
Happy B-day. Dad had ultra light super tricks on his 64 Plymouth light weight when I was a kid. Wish I knew where that car was today. It was an awsome race car.
Covered in bondo dust, working on a hot rod, fabbin, cuttin, weldin. Great way to spend a birthday. No need to ask what you want... more parts, more cars & more time to work on em. Hope it was a great day. It don't matter how it gets done. It is that it gets done. If everybody did it the same way, there would be no need to watch how somebody else tackles these problems. Next time they holler you are doing wrong, ask them where you can watch their videos to see how to do it right. AAAhhhh! End of the day AIR SHOWER.
Firstly happy birthday Dan,a fantastic approach to the Challenger, with Backyard BOG( filler) Beautification ,exactly the way most Aussies, approach their Street Rods,a good investment toolwise I've found for rust discovery is a Air Needlescaler, also to save dusty mess inside is a 5"_6" grinder with flapper disc, with vacuum attachment on safety guard to affix shop vac to!
I'm generally a "non-denominational" guy in terms of car makes. But most of my experiences are with Mopars. I totally understand the slippery slope of cosmetic improvements. It can truly be never ending. My trucker cap is off to you, Sir! You are doing absolutely the right thing with this Ex-Race Car. Just minimize the scars - and keep the ESSENCE of its cool history. Makes me want to go find a ratty mid-late-60s Mopar B-Body (Maybe even a More-Door) and duplicate your effort. You're like a historian of why 1960s-70s style Hot Rods rock. Presentable, not perfect... And fast!! You're an inspiration to many. Happy belated B-day to you, as well Dan.
Hey Dan, I'm late to the party but, happy birthday! I personally have always used USC Duraglass or other brand fiberglass filler whenever I need to put filler over a welded (or in this case brazed). A: it's stronger than plastic filler and will be less likely to crack - 2: It is waterproof and will resist absorbing moisture from a pinhole in the braze or weld from the backside and thus bubbling up - C: If you are throwing out the keep filler less than an 1/8" (or so) thick rule, it will hold up better as the base material with plastic filler solely used as the "low spot" leveler. Not trying to knock what you've done, just trying to add something you may want to try in the future.
Fix the right quarter! You'll be happier in the end! You do amazing body work so I know you can do it!!! It's a decent car so that'll make it all the better!
Coming along awesome! Can't believe how that dent popped out so primo. under that body line should splash the bottom half lime green the bright color would help hide stuff with no shadows and would make those scallop type body lines on the fender pop and the drop in the body line in the rear quarter when two toned makes her look like she has big hips lol Then fog some green on that scoop. Mopars usually have some sort of razzel dazzle color or gimic. Hope you had a good birthday 🎂
Happy Birthday Dan ! Don't let the polyester fillers get you down. My wife and I paint boats. Epoxy fillers....epoxy primers etc. Just roll with it and it will come out fine.
Happy Birthday Big Guy. Hope you had a great time at dinner. Nice of Danny to treat you. Have mentioned to ask before. Hope it's not too personal. How long have you guys been together ? This coming March will be 48 yrs. for us.
Crap, I missed it?! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Bro'! Hope you had a GREAT day! Wow...That quarter isn't too bad! Looks like an easier time than some of what you've had lately. Mur the MAN finessing that old steel, old school style. NICE! This old FORD guy is loving that car! Have fun! WOW! You hit 40K!! CONGRATS!!
That Mopar looks good on you! Can't wait to see it run. Always good to see Murr helping out and you guys made light work of that dent. Hope you had a good birthday!
Happy Birthday Dan. Hope dinner was good, with Dani,it couldn't be bad. The Dodge is looking better already.Glad you're leaving it like the old drag car she was.She sure was raced at some NHRA races, wheel studs etc. Keepin all that? Hope so. Cool piece of history from some cool people. Keep on keepin on!!
Happy Birthday Dan !! Hope you two had a great dinner out together " quality time " my birthday is today Friday 23rd. ! So July birthdays Rock!! Haha...I had a Challenger like this but it was red with a white interior and vinyl roof. Great videos and content and you're honestly and humor makes for a great channel love it !! / T
I'm impressed with how that quarter came out. I hear ya on keeping it a little ratty! Get it good, have some fun, then go deep dive on body work later if it still bugs you!
I'd say it was done back in the mid 1970's it wasn't until the early 1980s when migs came into most shops........those quarters are not to bad to do .......back then we didn't have replacement panels if the factory ones weren't available so you either cut one off a wreck or made a panel Today is so much easier to do everything ......was in the trade for many years ..still love the old cars...................lookin good your the man and.......brazing was the choice until mig welding came and wow yeah 1982 we got a mig in our shop they weren't cheap
Check the front lower inter wheel tub. If it has a hole in it that is what causes the rocker and in front of the rear tire to rust out most the time. Oh and Happy birthday! 🎂
I took some adult auto body night classes and an old guy there saw me grinding away on some THICK bondo making a mess. In one section we had access to the back side of the panel so he grabbed a torch and hit everywhere he could access without lighting the car on fire. Next he grabbed a 2 in putty knife and simply scraped the warm plastic off in sheets. He said old bondo used to have asbestos in it so this helped not create deadly dust for everyone in the shop. MAP gas on 1 in thick or less works well. DO NOT BREATH THE FUMES!!!
make sure you cover the Bondo with a good primer or plastic so in case if it rains the water doesn't soak in banda's like a sponge and it will soak in and get to the back metal and start
Wasnt going to Heckle you over the Dee Cal... no no I really wasnt.... Have A great Birthday dude ! Nice patchwork... kinda cool that a racecar has carpet in it. MOPAR cant wait to see what you do to the motor. Wow that's a good bodywork guy!! Thanks Mur!!
Starting to look alot better.....the real hard part looks done.....since your going with ratty race street car look.....it steel be nice to see those quarters fixed and painted....then have your ole man spray quarters and buff out rest of car....great work as usual........
Happy Birthday Dan!! The Mopar is coming along nicely. You’re gonna kick yourself for not fixing the dent in the top of the quarter panel!! Lol. I’m hoping you change your mind and fix it. Keep up the great videos.
Happy Birthday Dan! Congratulations on your 5 years together guys! Enjoyed the video and I really love where you're taking this Challenger. Looking forward to some more of the giveaway '57.
Looks good 👍 . Happy Birthday I hope you had a good dinner. You're doing a good job on the right side I say just make it straight on the whole panel. Just to give you a heads up , check out old RV many of them had big block Dodge's in them. You could find all parts and pieces you need for the belt drive 😉.
For large areas of filler I use a propane torch and a scraper (it’s plastic after all). Just make sure you have good ventilation (I do it outside) and don’t over heat the metal.
It's funny the thing you 'hate' you're so talented at ! I could 'turn a good wrench' but never had the training or patience to learn body work . Always thought of it as more of an artistic talent than mechanical work . Me thinks you are truly gifted at it though !
Happy Birthday!!! I love watching your channel whenever I need motivation to work on my cars all I need to do is watch your channel and boom instant motivation you make me feel lazy cause you get stuff done
Hope you had a good Birthday dinner. It was my Birthday on the 18th also. I turned 72, so just a little age difference. Also a Chevy guy. Had a 70 Chevelle Malibu, bought it new and had it for twenty five years, and wish now that I had kept it!
Your real handy with the body work you do pretty good I honestly would not make that car to comfortable I’d race it even in the back rods you will get a bunch of subs if you take it out and do a little tire fry and that baby will fry them off it’s got a good sounding motor you do good at putting these old things together good job have a good day not to many more warm Canadian days lol
Happy Birthday Dan.. hope it was a good........"Ratty" is coming along looking forward to the next videos for sure......you don't have a shortage of projects just parts!!! LOL (and gas)
Glad to watch video, your old man sure has a mean lick on working on quarter panel. He done a nice job , Boyd Cuddington would be proud . You do amazing work, Dan. Thanks for bringing these old hot rods back to life.
Thanks for watchin!
Always.
Dan is really talented

Hey Billy Ray please get rid of those idiots bumpers in the future I love all your work I mean huge Mopar fan wait till you get back on the Mopar👍👍
I'm with William. Go ahead & fill those dents ot top. It will be moui bweno in the end.
Doesn't matter how you do if you get done like you want it. It belongs to you. Good work.👍
Stretch the Challenger into a four door! LOL!! Fully functional repairs. As long as it's structurally sound, it's all good.
Haha
That car can actually be saved
Dwight Fann he is saving it. Doesn’t have to be laser straight or have a $20k paint job to be “saved”. He’s doing exactly what it needs to be a safe functional, and most importantly, a fun car.
Heck make it into a Limousine
I'm really amazed with how seamlessly you can move between the different project cars. Do a little on this car then a little on that one and you just keep moving around in your fleet. It's impressive. Good Work!
Keeps it a little more fun and interesting

Haha

Thanks buddy!
This is the correct way to fix a car. I love it. I dis a full career of autobody just like this. Its perfect!
Happy B-day. Dad had ultra light super tricks on his 64 Plymouth light weight when I was a kid. Wish I knew where that car was today. It was an awsome race car.

Happy Birthday Dan. Working on your Hot Rod and dinner, awesome day.
I'd love to see the Challenger look Restored... But I'm gonna like it better seeing it driven and looking like it's been driven.
Happy Birthday and congratulations on another year staying young.

Looking awesome!! I’m telling you, 70’s Pro Stock vibe would be badass!! Good luck, can’t wait to see more of it!!
YES SIR, that's the never ending question. Where does it end. Good enough is good enough.
Happy birthday, great video as always. Nice body work.
It's funny the thing you 'hate' you're so talented at ! I could 'turn a good wrench' but never had the training or patience to learn body work .
Always thought of it as more of an artistic talent than mechanical work . Me thinks you are truly gifted at it though !
Thanks mu friend. Its just to slow moving for my taste
Thanks for showing your build have a great time I hope with your mopar I'm enjoying your build thanks eh your friend for B.C Rob ✌

I was watching the live chat (long after it was live), my definition of what does MOPAR stand for. Misc Old Parts Assembled Ridiculously.
Get the results you want...it's not important how you get there. Best birthday wishes!
