This album is so good guys, and It only get's better. Because of Copyright issues, we split this episode into 3 parts. Here's part 2: ua-cam.com/video/cYuVVhGBKgI/v-deo.html
They talk way too much 😢 I like listening to your reactions about production and vocals. Maybe you should pause the music when someone has something interresting to debate on. Sorry about my english I’m French. Hope you understand ☺️
Down Bad is about someone "taking her up to a spaceship" (not God) and showing her a completely different world which is why when she finds herself on the ground in her own town, "it seems so hollow now." When she says, " come and pick me up," she's talking about the spaceship again, not God taking her off this earth because "she might as well be dead." Now obviously she wasn't abducted by aliens, but the man she is singing about showed her a whole different, multi-dimensional world that she never experienced and she's comparing this to being abducting. For example (I'm paraphrasing), "No one would because the existence of you if I told them..." The part when she says "It's like a lost my twin," isn't about an actual twin, it's referencing twin flame, which is the belief that everyone has another half; the ultimate soulmate you can say.
I'm a massive swifty but I don't get why swifties have to obsess about who a song may or may not be about. Just enjoy the lyricism and art. Folklore proved it doesn't have to be about someone to be great.
oh my god yes they are listening to such amazing songs and the first comment is "this is about x" WHO GIVES A F JUST ENJOY IT HOW DOES IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE FOR YOUUUUUUUUU
100% Paternity testing every song winds me up so much because it diminishes the universal power of them. Taylor herself has said multiple times that her hope is that when people hear her songs they become about their lives, not hers.
I think you missed the whole concept behind the album. A concept that is dictated by "I can do it with a broken heart". She sings all the sadness and anger while a minimally happy melody plays in the background and she pretends to be fine, even though she is at rock bottom.
The production also felt monotonous to me first listen and was burnt out till 31 songs ended but in second listen on shuffle, this album grew on me so much that i can't listen to any other Taylor songs except this album 😅
It was just so overwhelming. I listened to the standard album for a few days and they really grew on me. I did the same thing with The Anthology and was able to appreciate it a lot more with time in between and now I can’t choose which I love more
31 songs straight through is very fatiguing on first listen. I have found it works much better as 2 albums or on shuffle too. Great album the more I listen.
You’re missing all the greatness while speculating about the who is it about aspect. She writes a lot of metaphors and not everything is to be taken literally. She wasn’t really in an asylum, but Clara Bow was (example). She paints pictures with her words, like poets tend to do ❤
As someone going thru a breakup after 13 years, this album is everything! (13 years, no ring, no baby, naivety can really wreak havoc! Hence, the need for this album!!)
Down Bad breaks me. The way she compares the end of a relationship to being dropped back down to earth after being abducted by aliens, shown and different world then arriving back and being disoriented not knowing what happened b
GOD I'm so glad I found your comment. I've been saying forever that Down Bad lyrics are slept on because the beat and "fucks" take all the attention. The lyric "Staring at the sky, come back and pick me up" HURTS ME
These people have to be quiet more because every single time they talk while the song is playing, I'm like YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON A REALLY GOOD LYRIC!!!!! And then ask what happened!?!?
Seriously lol missing huge chunks of lyrics bc you can’t shut up then not really loving the track bc you didn’t understand it is my biggest reaction peeve. Pause to chat, rewind a bit or wait til the end. Kind of why I dislike multiple people in a reaction bc everyone has something to say and that’s just triple the interruptions
The song Fortnight is (partly) about Tortured Poet, Sylvia Plath, who k*lled herself in 1963 after her exhusband left her for another woman (there are big references to this in the music video).
I really wish that your friends (not sure, I didn’t catch their relation to you) wouldn’t bring up a man every single lyric that Taylor sings. Them bringing up a different guy every minute really took away from the lyricism and what story Taylor is telling in the songs. I loved your perspective especially since you point out lots of production elements I usually don’t hear the first time around.
Same, its kind of hilarious because it's actually an extremely hypocritical thing to do. Fans will always get defensive and angry when somebody says that Taylor only writes about breakups and men, but then they'll turn right around and only ever try to interpret her songs through their preconceived, surface level ideas about the men she dates. It's like, you can't have it both ways lmao. The men are not nearly as important to the stories and worlds she crafts within her songs as people seem to think.
15:17 this is Taylor’s signature sound. She first began with her album 1989, which she explained why she titled it the year after she was born because it was a collection of 80’s synth pop songs. Since then, every single one of her albums has an element of 80’s synth pop. It was extreme in lover, some hints in folklore and evermore, prominent in Midnights, and extreme in Tortured Poets.
real tho. like even the production is perfect for the lyrics because it is exactly what i would imagine a toy-ish kid-y band to sound like and we are talking about how taylor feels like an abandonded toy.
Isn't it soooo fun to bring down another talented woman??? Not every little piece of Taylor's music has to be about somebody, she literally is one of the best songwriters out there, and yet the only thing y'all can think about while listening to her is "Is this song about him or not?"
12:40 Jack antonoff is also a producer on 1989 (the original) and he only produced the songs from the Taylor’s version that he also did on the original + some vault tracks! Christopher Rowe tried recreating max martins sound not Jack!
Desperately trying to pick out "who" every song might be about is a detriment to actually understanding the stories and metaphors she comes up with lol 😭 Like Fortnight is an incredibly obvious prologue to the narrative we go on to see unfold in the album, but if you're somebody who can't comprehend a song unless you can craft some specific narrative to fit a real life human being, maybe that doesn't seem as apparent to you. Genuinely I think that Taylor still always gets pegged as the "breakups and feelings" songwriter because fans refuse to analyze and interpret her songs through any lens outside of the specific men she has in her life. TTPD's story is brilliant and perfectly straightforward even if you have zero clue about her life story, and that's the true talent within her storytelling.
Hey Issac, always love your reactions :) I just wanted to correct you- Taylor has been using Christopher Rowe to do all her re-recordings. Jack has only been used for songs he actually produced originally and some of the vault tracks that were never released. Also, Shellback worked with Martin on the original release of 1989 and he did actually come back to help re-record Wildest Dreams along with Ryan Tedder and Imogen Heap on their original tracks.
It's definitely about Matty Healy. She knew him for a long time and they never connected until the breakup with Joe. Matty's 'wife' is most likely his drug habit. Her 'husband' is Joe. The part when Taylor and Post lie on the ground in a paper silhouette is a dead giveaway because lots of people talk about how Matty is known for lying in just that position while having conversations. That's what I've heard over and over again. 😎
As a long time fan of Matty's, to my knowledge, he has been clean of hard drugs for 5 years. He mentioned it last year during a concert and everyone cheered for him. As far as the position they are laying in, I believe it is a reference to part of The 1975's show last year. Matty was lying face to face with a naked silicone figure of himself in that exact position. He did it at almost every show. You can find images on Google and some videos here on UA-cam.
@@ssalas7374maybe he is clean of hard drugs, I don't know if you consider pills hard drugs, but she has a song that eludes to him trying to buy pills off of a friend of a friend of hers that ghosted him. in her song Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus She says, "you needed me but you needed drugs more and I couldn't watch it happen". so maybe he relapsed. I hope he's okay.
@@oh.sorry.dont.mind.meeeee she's talking about their relationship in 2014 for the needed drugs more part in Chloe et al. The pills thing is def a reference to this time though - but he has loose sobriety which equates to not doing heroin / cocaine, presuming the pills are like Xanax or something he's probably relatively okay - hasn't seemed like he's been on drugs anyhow As for fortnight I think she's talking about fka twigs when she says wife - they were rumoured to be engaged & husband is Joe A
@@oh.sorry.dont.mind.meeeee yeah, of course, I can’t know for sure. It worried me too. After multiple listens to this album I wonder if some of those references were to past events, they knew each other a long time and certainly during his struggles. I know he’s worked hard to get free of that.
@@Alice-vm4sn Interesting. I kind of felt like the ‘wife’ she was referencing was his current girlfriend and she was referring to feeling like M was her ‘husband’ even though he left her. Like the song was set last summer/fall and she was seeing him with someone new.
So… Unfortunately due to copyright issues, the second and third part of this reaction has been taken down from UA-cam. I’m pretty mad about it, but for now there’s not really anything we can do. Thanks for watching this though!
yep. I knew this reaction screamed disaster from the very first minute. All the "omg, chills, omg, chills!" only added to the "sh!t storm" (😉) that ensued.
Jack was on the original 1989 album, too. And the reason why max Martin isn't around too much in pop now is because he makes artists he works with give him writing credits even if he didn't participate in writing at all
I think he’s right, Fortnight seems more metaphorical, covering themes that run throughout the album such as love, longing, wanting someone who’s not good for you, mental health etc. Fun reaction!
This is the best possible group to do an album review. You have the singer, who will listen to and critique the performance, techniques, and melodies of the singing, which is one of the most important parts. You have the song writer who will listen to the lyrics, dissect meanings and intricacies. Then you have the producer, who will listen to the instruments, tone, presence, and skill of the song itself. The only person who’s missing if the Fan/Swiftie, who will review the song in context of the artist themselves, but I think they said the singer was also a fan too.
I absolutely love this video! Tks for putting it together :) a suggestion for next time: it would be interesting if the girls were more technical about their review instead of saying “it’s about matty/joe” every minute
I understand on first listen it might be hard to grab every detail but I think over time there’s so much perfection to both the production and writing on this album throughout that you really have to critically listen to hear
I don't know there the name but the girl in black gets It!!! I like that she was looking at the album with the perspective that Taylor had a lot to write about so these songs aren't entirely about one person in particular
So I saw a theory that “Fortnight” is supposed to be this idea where it’s meant to take place in the future where a past relationship that was daunting on you feels like it didn’t last as long as it had felt when it was happening and you realize the other person moved on and is living a happier, better life than you and you’re jealous of their “happy spouse, happy house” life; hence the “my husband is cheating.. your wife waters flower” lines. SO GOOD!
This may be a coincidence but during some shows of “The Man” at the eras tour they background people are using typewriters just like in TTPD title song.
Jack Antonoff also produced 1989 (2014) with Max Martin, Shellback, Ryan Tedder and a few other producers, just so you know. Jack Antonoff only produced the same songs he initially was part of in 1989 (Taylor's Version), the rest were produced by Christopher Rowe, together with the returning Shellback, and Ryan Tedder.
WHAT A DREAM TEAM TO BREAK DOWN A TAYLOR SWIFT'S ALBUM!!! I usually get the lyrics cause I'm a writer and then I go check chanels like yours so I can learn about music and production, so I LOVE THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS TOGHETHER
"I love you, it's ruining my life" is a call back to Gorgeous; "You ruined my life by not being mine." Remember she wrote and recorded this during her Eras Tour. TTPD is soaked in previous eras, sounds, and lyric parallels.
OK But... do you know that Jack Antonoff did NOT produced the Max Martin songs on 1989 TV???? She produces those tracks with Cristopher Rowe.... hehehe just saying.
I think this is a concept almbum... so whenever it dosent go in the "logical" way, there is a meaning behind it, its done intentional... i also think this album is super cronological.... great reaction, cant wait for te rest
That is so interesting! I completely disagree about My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys. I get lost in her voice and that’s what I hear most. I get that weird senses mix up where I actually see her voice in some way. Sometime when you’re listening to it, focus specifically on how her voice moves through different sounds. It became my favorite song after the first time I did that.
It's a fantastic album but it's all basically about Ratty apart from So Long London, Clara Bow, Who's afraid I'd little old me and of course The Alchemy which is about Travis. Healy really did a number on her 😭
Listen to the lyrics and stop talking over and assuming, down bad leans towards matt, surprisingly most of the "deep" songs seem to be about matt who she spun the block on... pause to discuss, you can't truly have an opinion when you aren't fully listening o the beat, the lyrics, vocal cadence... listen, pause, discuss, rinse repeat...this format is chaotic ...this presents like it's only to farm engagement
24:29 this is a very common critique I’ve seen about the album. Like in every negative review I’ve seen about the album they said it blends too much together
@@akashvalsan6609 She never said Mr. Starry eyes, she just sang about being safe rather than starry eyed, and even if what you said would be true it still holds. She says that she thought it would be better to be safe = being in a safe relationship with Joe, rather than starry eyed = being in a relationship with Matty.
Soooo 1975 has a popular song called Chocolate as well - someone else pointed out that bars are lines in a song so if she said you ate 7 bars of chocolate - could be interpreted as you kicked butt and wrote 7 lines of his song ??? I’m not a music person so I can’t confirm this …. Anyone else interpret it this way ?? We know how Taylor loves her double Meanings
To me, the "Like I lost my twin" part, is about you losing your twin sibling, and it would hurt a lot, because twins are always very connected to each other.
Taylor likes Ariana, she just started sharing the trailer for Wicked now that it’s available at Eras tour. She plays a song by GaGa…people just love the drama. MH was a guy from her early years so there is a history. She gets out of this long ass (6yrs) toxic relationship and he swoops in love bombs her already tortured heart, shows her off for attention, gets what he wants and then ghosted her. So slimy!! Anyway thanks for the reaction!
Most of the songs on TTPD are parallels between the lives of Taylor and Clara Bow. Many songs are totally dedicated to Joe Alwyn, some are for Matty, some for Travis, but over all she's comparing her journey as an artist to Clara Bow the OG it girl. How Clara Bow transitioned from silent genre to pictures with voices. How Her life is often known more for the rumors and false gossip surrounding it than her actual achievements, and people are always speculating about her personal life instead of actually appreciating her art. Also a lot of references are just literally about random Tortured Poets in history.
I dont mean to be mean, its great that all three are excited. I just feel it really affected how you interpretted the album and the sheer...well, art in TTPD. I think this is one of those albums that shouldve been listened to alone (not for just a reaction, but in general. Even for a simple listener)
I AM DEAD. 💀 Jack Antonoff is NOT Ryan Adams. Ryan is the one who did his own take of 1989. Jack was in Fun. as well as Bleachers and has been producing with Taylor for a hot minute. Check 'em out. 😉
It’s Time To Go- “In fact what she seemed, not a twin from your dreams, She's a crook who was caught.” Down Bad- “like I lost my twin” Seems to me like she’s contrasting her loss from Down Bad to the loss of her best friend, her “twin” (Karlie Kloss)
Everyone is going for the 80s thing these days because Taylor put it as the norm with 1989, before that the pop was bubble gum, next year it was solidified with Carly Rae Jepsen, then The Weeknd, dua lipa, etc.
This was the most annoying reaction video I've watched thus far. Issac, you're just completely off in every way. The production is insanely awesome in this album! Also, having three people just constantly talk over the song while it's playing is obnoxious (blonde girl). The dark headed girl was the only one that was tolerable. Also, you're supposed to do a reaction video going into it completely without knowing the songs and especially not having heard them. This was disappointing and a disrespect to Taylor's phenomenal album.

That whole convo was OFF THE WALL. Like, wth? Wrong, wrong, wrooooong.... 😆🤣
yep. I knew this reaction screamed disaster from the very first minute. All the "omg, chills, omg, chills!" only added to the "sh!t storm" (😉) that ensued.
He literally did Out of the woods, I wish you would, and You are in Love
This would've been more enjoyable to just listen to Isaac review it.
“Ate seven bars of chocolate”
The 1975 has a song called “Chocolate.”
Also 8,7...
Sligh TK refmaybe?
We just need one more person that will shush them so they’ll actually listen to the song
3 people, 2 brain cells
best comment
I absolutely love this video! Tks for putting it together :) a suggestion for next time: it would be interesting if the girls were more technical about their review instead of saying “it’s about matty/joe” every minute
Down Bad-it’s about Matty Healy and is a sister song to Snow On the Beach
oh my god i literally love u guys especially the clip at the end please keep making taylor swift videos with your sisters
thanks!!
The irritation when they talk and not pausing the track😅
Hate to break it to you-Matty, Matty, Matty, Matty first four.
I disagree about MBOBHFT, but the rest are def Matty.
Nothing in this album is lame. 🙄
"I love you, it's ruining my life" is a call back to Gorgeous; "You ruined my life by not being mine." Remember she wrote and recorded this during her Eras Tour. TTPD is soaked in previous eras, sounds, and lyric parallels.
17:55 Sad songs with happy beats that are supposed to be played in Discos get you dance through the tears.
Taylor swift brought back the 80's sound with the original release of 1989 (2014)
it's HER sound now 😁😁
OK But... do you know that Jack Antonoff did NOT produced the Max Martin songs on 1989 TV????
Healy really did a number on her 😭
this is probably my 2nd favorite album of hers! after folklore of course!
i love how every reactor says during “fortnight” i hope there isn’t a song about matty and then it’s the whole album
And she does blend down bad with fortnight in her Era's Tour and it's actually good.
“If it’s deep, it’s about Joe.”
I couldn’t agree more! 😭 Jokes on matty lol
Wdym? loml is about Matty Healy
@@akashvalsan6609 No loml is about Joe.
@@michellelee_tv
Mr Starry eyes= Matty Healy
Mr Blue= Joe Alwyn
We know how Taylor loves her double
Meanings
that wasn’t Jack Antonoff who produced the Max Martin tracks on 1989. It’s Chris Rowe, fyi.
I’ve been waiting for the drop of this video!!
Your reactions are always best
You (the guy) dancing to Guilty as Sin is so cute!
I read comments on another video about how fortnight was kind of based on Clara bows life but I think it has a little bit of her experience as well
Fortnight, My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys and Down Bad are top favorites of mine
😂 you ended up being a swiftie. 😂 it always happens when they fall down the rabbit hole lol
I can’t wait till you guys do the Anthology.
To me, the "Like I lost my twin" part, is about you losing your twin sibling, and it would hurt a lot, because twins are always very connected to each other.
You guys are so fun and entertaining to watch! 😅
Isaac any day of his life : "Owl City???!"😂
WOOHOO i will be watching all 3!
Fortnight is a contunation of the No Body No Crime story on evermore and no one can tell me otherwise.
hahaha that's a good one.
everyone connected to the end of hits different when she says is that your key in the door have they come to take me away.
No wayyy. Why would the wife in no body no crime be upset about him cheating if she’s pining for some guy she spent a fortnight with ? 😅
@madi.gonzalez. I'm guessing they mean it's fron the perspective of the mistress
Anna, I hate to tell you, but your favorite song “cardigan” is also about that ‘Grimey’ Matty Healy… AKA “Augustine”
Actually no. It wasn't Jack who remade 1989. He did the vault tracks. Christopher Rowe produced the standard tracks on the album.
Great work Isaac! Very entertaining!
Album of the year
Alchemy is about Travis
Amazing review !!
The guy who ruined the production on 1989 tv wasn't Jack, it was another guy who did Max's songs
Jack Antonoff is also a producer of 1989 (the original) 2014
Educate yourself, please
I dont mean to be mean, its great that all three are excited. I just feel it really affected how you interpretted the album and the sheer...well, art in TTPD. I think this is one of those albums that shouldve been listened to alone (not for just a reaction, but in general. Even for a simple listener)
I AM DEAD. 💀
Jack Antonoff is NOT Ryan Adams. Ryan is the one who did his own take of 1989. Jack was in Fun. as well as Bleachers and has been producing with Taylor for a hot minute. Check 'em out. 😉
"Hahaha! Drunk driving! Hahaha!"
😳
The title track just grew on me more than fortnight...Soooo goooood!
Her best album yet hands down 😩
Matty Healy has a song called chocolate where “chocolate” stands for the devils lettuce.
It’s Time To Go- “In fact what she seemed, not a twin from your dreams, She's a crook who was caught.”
Down Bad- “like I lost my twin”
Seems to me like she’s contrasting her loss from Down Bad to the loss of her best friend, her “twin” (Karlie Kloss)
Poor Isaac have to hear the girls talk about Tay's past relationship, i know u just wanna hear the music. ❤
23:42 Not sloppy wet kiss 😭 the unforeseen kiss is much better 😂
Two people who married other people but they love each other and are miserable
Another thing, Jack didn't produce the rerecords. Christopher Rowe did those that were not originally produced by Jack.
I like how the reviewers have absolutely no clue who Dylan Thomas or Patty Smith are.
‘Owl City?’ Me still having no fricking clue what owl city is (cut me some slack I am not American)
You guys don’t understand metaphors Taylor Swift uses. 😭
