It did suck. They played bon jovi, poison, aerosmith during Headbangers Ball. Same shit they played during regular programmin. There would be ONE actual metal video at the end of the 2 hour show, that was all.
This is the first Headbangers ball I saw the one when Savatage was hosting it. I was 16 and had the long hair. I miss those days.
One of the best singers in metal if you ask me...hes up there with Rob for sure
A lot of people will give me a hard time about it but I think Chris Olivia was just as good guitarist as Dimebag Darrell unfortunately Chris never got the recognition he deserved very underrated him and his brother John
Moved to Vegas in early '88 and the FM radio 104.5 the Krusher (robot voice) played all the leading edge stuff. Turned me on to Savatage, Barren Cross, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, a bunch of badass rock and roll
Strange Ways was on there, and I believe Hall of the Mountain King. Truly awesome band(s) at a cool time when you slapped in a cassette tape and cranked it up. The list of cool bands is immense.
There’s a lot of bands that get called underrated but I think I’ve gotta put these guys at the top of any list of underrated bands.

Garth McNamee , Garth McNamee was the man that killed criss Oliva in 1993 . Garth was driving drunk , crossed the center line hitting criss and his wife going to a concert in Tampa killing criss Oliva. crisses wife later died in 2005 . she had a very difficult time with crisses passing and most say she was never fully right after the drunk driving incident.

I just barely missed this era of Headbanger's Ball. Kinda funny watching them trying to get through. Probably had minimal prep, if any.
the minimal prep IMO is what made this show so cool...it had such a loose, genuine 'hanging out' and unpredictable vibe like anyone could show up
A legendary band... those beautiful times when MTV actually played music and rock & metal music was in the mainstream... 😍❤🔥
When mtv was cool and music was good, guitar players actaully played solos, 80s chicks were hot.
