Dit was het eerste seizoen dat ik compleet heb gekeken. Ik was direct verslaafd. Maar het was ook direct de beste Mol ooit (in mijn ogen). Af en toe kijk ik de finale nog een keer terug, gewoon om te zien hoe goed hij was. En dat vind ik nu (2024) nog steeds

One of the best seasons in years!!! I had to get used to the group a little in the beginning but honestly, this was one of my all time favorites. And imo one of the best Moles ever!! I've seen all seasons and he's definitely in my top 3, maybe even my nr. 1. He wanted to be a mole with courage and oh boy, he was. I cant wait for the next season!!!

Wow! I did not expect Jan to be the Mole at all! It makes a lot more sense in hindsight - it’s why he made a mess with the boxes in his train carriage, why he took the mingeld in the water message, why he packed the car full enough purposefully so that a person can’t fit in it, why he flipped Stine’s name instead of 500 Euros after he was deemed safe already... Kudos to him! Although, I knew as soon as Art said Olcay was not the Mole that Jan had to be the Mole. If Ruben was the Mole Art would have to awkwardly cut in to declare who the winner was, whereas if Jan was the Mole we’d immediately know Olcay lost. Wonderful trio of finalists, with a wonderful confusingly suspicious cast (Stine and Simone!!)
Also... it’s kind of funny to think that one of the reasons Olcay might have made it to the finale was because she didn’t write anything down - she might have been unable to put as many questions on Ruben compared to the others since she had to rely on her memory (for the most part)

...boy was I wrong about Olcay but I don't mind because Jan was an absolutely phenomenal Mole. He took so many risks and looked like he was having a fantastic time! Ruben is indeed a worthy winner seeing as nobody else caught onto Jan at all. A very satisfying ending to the series. Can't wait for WIDM 2019!

I'm still reeling from the reveal, it was so so so well done! After episode 3, I completely ruled Jan out as mole, but he's the only one I ever did that to - and I regret it now! After episode 7 when Stine went home, I retracted that, started watching Jan a bit more closely and noticed a few things that made me think he was shady, then went back and noticed one glaring thing at the start of the game that should have given me a hint.
All three of the finalists were present at the game defining 'Wij zijn niet in Kiev, vriend' moment, but only one of them caused it. If you thought everyone was in the same city, why on earth would you say 'Where in Kiev are you?' as opposed to just 'Where are you?'.
Side note: for you sleuths who watched and rewatched the 'Niets is wat het lijkt' assignment with the question board, hoping to spot the mole, on the upload for episode 4 at 30:15, you can see Jan in his hoodie to the right of the woman with the umbrella.

Well I suspected him right at the beginning, and not much until the very end. I was never fully on the Ruben, Simone or Stine trains at least, but yeah... Jan was never my prime suspect. Even at the end I was like "Can they both be wrong?" Olcay messing up the "musical cars / chairs" challenge and getting caught by the red cars with the most money both seemed like prime mole actions. I did think that it probably had to be him if it wasn't Olcay... but I didn't know, at all. At least I didn't think it was Ruben.
Good season and well done to everyone who was fully "on" Jan! Thanks against Marieke for your work subtitling these seasons. Bring on De Mol Belgie Season 6!

I suspected Jan from the first episode but wavered after someone in these comments said "it's not Jan, trust me." Wish I would've stuck to my guns now. That second phone call just seemed too shady.

I am SHOCKED. I did not see that coming, at all. I so wish it were Olcay - she lost so much money for the pot and no one thought it was her. Jan did an exceptional job in keeping suspicion off of him, but even after watching this finale I am not convinced that he didn't help the pot more than hurt it. I mean, in that car challenge where he was happy the car wasn't starting, he still successfully completed it and doubled the pot. And they made such a big deal as to how he led the challenge where they had to clear the dirt, but that was the most successful they had been to that point. Even when he ripped up money, he still brought in more than anyone. It seemed like most of the 'mole actions' they showed us were just him showing himself as the mole or taking some rests more than actually sabotaging the mission and losing money. On the other hand, he sabotaged brilliantly in the river rafting mission and of course the train mission. But I just don't think he was losing money for the pot each episode. Would love if someone could point out the other instances in which he actually caused money to be lost. That being said, he definitely had me completely fooled with his fanaticism and enthusiasm for winning, I never suspected him for a moment. In fact, he probably would have been last on my list of suspects many times throughout the season with how well he seemed to be doing.
Adam Klein I think thats because of his tactic. He wanted to be the unnoticed and to reaaaally seem like he was trying. It wouldnt make sense if all of his 'efforts' never paid off. He actually did earn the least out of the final 3 though.
Did he really earn the least? I find that hard to believe. I guess the very first episode he lost a lot but so did nearly everyone. Did Olcay really earn more than him?

There are "follow the money: videos on yt that show what people earned and Olcay earned the most out out the three of them I think, or at least up until the final episode where Ruben got the 2500 for himself. Out of the last 5 people, Stine earned the least, it was so bad 😂 Love her though
Wow.. does that count things we didn't see on the show? Such as throwing the boxes off the train or grabbing the minus money on the raft? We knew those would be the mole, we just didn't know who did them. I'm guessing those videos are in Dutch.
Adam Klein Yes they are in Dutch, Ill check if any of them have okay subtitles. Even before we knew he threw boxes off the train and ripped apart 500 euros, people still found out he earned the least. Its not a big difference, but still. I love how unnoticable it was though. I only knew because of the people who actually did the maths. Love this season.

That’s what I get for going with my gut instead of logic! When I went back through my notes, I saw that Jan had earned much less money than Ruben and Olcay. I noticed many of his mole actions/sabotages. I had even found one of the hidden clues that pointed to Jan. But somehow I still thought Olcay was the mole. Lol! I think part of me just really wanted to see what would happen if neither finalist chose the correct mole, so I was really hoping it was Olcay. Jan did a great job. How awesome was that challenge in episode 4 when he walked past all of the contestants in the park? I was expecting him to be wearing some sort of disguise that partially covered his face, I didn’t expect him to just walk by completely exposed like that! So that was cool. The only thing that still doesn’t quite sit well with me is the first episode. I think the producers got extremely lucky that Ron and Loes also didn’t open their safe; otherwise it would have been unfair to Jean-Marc. But, maybe it would have been better for him to go home first anyway, then Ron would have had the chance to play. All in all, I really enjoyed this season!

My mind was absolutely blown when Jan revealed himself to be the mole. I never expected a mole that would take the lead and look like they were trying hard in the challenges. Definitely one of the best seasons and one of the best, if not the best mole ever. :D I hope there are more unconventional moles like Jan in the upcoming seasons.

So, he has to be the most in your face mole ever. So many dangerous sabotages with everybody watching!, hiding lightbulbs, messing with colors and flags, that quiz in the park... This kind of actions are the signature of a really good and entertaining mole. It made me think about the last 5 or 6 moles who weren't brave enough to do things like this and were overall soooo lame, specially from seasons 14 to 16, justifing their "mole actions" with very lame excuses...
I'm truly happy with this season even though I clearly had NO IDEA who the mole was and kept waiting for an excellent and satisfying explanition in the finale. I guess we have it!
However, I still think that Ruben took more money away than Jan but still...

Jan was an amazing mole in how confident he was, how the candidates didn't catch him walking past in that park was incredible! I think I only started suspecting him a bit when he did the leap of faith on the canoe challenge, but even then I was led more towards Olcay. Ruben wasn't even in the running for me, as the producers seemed to make it too obvious that everybody thought he was the mole to actually end up being the mole.
Just a shame about the live show, how they have to rush through it so much (especially with the live reveal this time), they could easily extend it to 2 hours and have plenty to chat about - only having the 'hidden clues' on the website was a disappointment although they don't seem to have been as strong this year anyway - The one I'm kicking myself over is the fact Jan finished his final quiz in 11:07, I had a feeling there was a reason they put the times up and was actually searching for clues throughout the season based on '18' after the 'M18' map coordinate in the first episode!
I will definitely send a tip later in the week when I get some money in my PayPal account, well unless De Mol sabotages it first ;)

haha zo grappig! eerst zat ik helemaal niet op Stine (ik heb dr ooit in het echt ontmoet omdat ik wat dingetjes mocht zeggen over mijn school in Denktank dus vandaar) maar omdat iedereen op haar zat ben ik haar gaan verdenken! tot dat ze eruit lag.. toen ben ik 50/50 op Jan en Simone gaan spreiden.. maar toen Simone eruit lag wist ik echt 100% zeker dat Jan het was ookal heb ik bij aflevering 1 gezegd; als Jan het is vreet ik mijn schoenen op haha😂😂 en nu zit ik in een Niels-tunnel😅 (btw thx dat je dit plaats! ook voor Nederlandse kijkers is het heel fijn omdat via YT terug te kijken!!😍😁🙏)
Really, this was one of the most bizarre seasons ever, and never were people more divided about who the mole was.
And me too.... I was completely on the wrong mole that year, although I did see through a few stunts the mole pulled, which only makes me feel more stupid.
I find the three cracks in that mirror at the reveal rather symbolic... three people left at the finale... a runner-up, a winner and a Mole... three different Exemption types used in the game... Joker, Green, Black... three letters in the Dutch word Mol...
Thanks Marieke for the work on this, good cast, the final 3 exceptional. Olcay was my favourite, funny woman. The other two added variety as well, from the fanatical Jan to the at times bumbling winner (I think he did fake being the mole well). Simone was a bit boring so I was glad she didn't make the final. Great locations they used, the tasks were good even if they didn't have a laser shooting task. Even a weaker one like the opera house was atmospheric, though the result there was very obvious. The reveal with the mirror was inventive. Rather than having the usual quiet mole it's nice to have a louder one.

This season was again full of hidden clues to the identity of the Mole.
As before, the episode titles all point to the Mol.
The title of episode 1 is "A story apart". During the appearance of this title, de Mol talks as a voice-over about the start of the new season of Wie is de Mol? A separate story. And certainly in this narrative form.
In the same episode De Mol says in the taxi on the way to the location of the safe: “M 18. Thanks Art. I already knew that ”, a reference to his prior knowledge and therefore to his identity. You can also see the Mole in the cafe depicting the letter M with his hands when he asks an employee if and where there is a golden bow in Kiev. Again a clue to the identity of the Mol. And on the chessboard, the white king is in position D1, which is on the map of all candidates the section in which Kiev lies. The city in which the Mol is located.
"Change trick", the title of episode 2 refers to the Mol who, during the "change money" assignment, suggests first to pin the € 10 notes per two on the board. Because of this cheating with money, there are not enough plus tickets to cover all the squares.
With the assignment to “join in” in the theater, De Mol chooses to play for money in the pot instead of going to Ron's box. That while de Mol knows that he, and therefore the rest of the group, is wrong. In a money transaction, De Mol deceives the literal meaning of "exchange trick". The most bizarre dilemma faced by the candidates during the “nothing is what it seems” assignment in episode 4 is answering the question: Do you want to know who the Mole is already? Whether the question is answered with a "yes" or "no", De Mol decides to pass by all candidates. Yet nobody sees the Mol. Just as no one sees the hidden clue in the question. If you take all the initial letters of the words from the sentence: WJNAWWDMI and pull WIDM (the abrogation of Wie is de Mol?) From it, you have the following letters: WW and JAN. The Password on this question is JAN.
The title of the episode; "Prospect" - which literally means "not seeing the solution" - refers to the fact that the Mole passes by everyone but no one sees this and there is a solution in the question: Do you already know who the Mole is? which none of the candidates noticed.
In episode 5, the correct solution for the word search is: Strip de Mol de Mol away? The answer to that question is; yes, because de Mol does that. A hidden clue to his identity. This Mol also adds a little extra by not simply crossing out the word "Mol" but with the letter M, from Mol. And because the words “de Mol” appear twice in the solution, the name of the Mol also comes; Jan, the only one in the puzzle twice. De Mol clearly has different visions of the rest of the candidates on the assignment "word seekers", which refers to the title of the episode "views".
The title of episode 6 was "redeemed". De Mol is the first to be released from a room at the "key position" command. De Mol is relieved of taking someone with him during the “lada's with load” assignment because he does his best to catch the first time due to prior knowledge of the assignment. And de Mol is the first to be relieved of seeing his screen during the execution of the "Green / Red" assignment. In this last assignment De Mol is also the one who pronounces the figures "1" and "8" in answer to a question from Art, a reference to the Mol of season 18.
"Schijn Werper", the title of episode 7 refers to the Mol who during all assignments acts as if he is doing his very best but actually does not. When "lighting up" the Mol neglects the lamp assignment, where he also literally comes to the fore after the first lamp has been turned on. In "talking as a bridge man" the Mole is the only one who does not paint. And in the event of "accidental" de Mol builds a molehill of the blue packages. During this last assignment De Mol also holds a red package with the name of the end station on it; Tsemi, which is an anagram of "It’s me". Above it is in the Georgian script the name of the Mole, Jan. With the wrap there appear to be two red packages not being delivered. Whose fault? It’s me, Jan.
At Vardzia, the Mole is the one singing along with the singing groups. The title of the eighth episode "like-minded" refers to this.
Episode 9 has the title "finalist" which literally means last. It refers to the Mole who is the last in the "moonshine" assignment whose moon is approved. He is also the last to arrive at the "Tabatskuri" assignment. And to take away all doubts, de Mol does take the money for the final test but arrives at the test computer without an envelope. This is in contrast to Ruben, who is testing the envelope on his table. And the end time

And for my reaction....
It's the most successful guess I've had in the history of WIDM NL. While Jan wasn't my final mole, he was my mole from episode 1 with the phone call and up to episode 4. That's when I kind of abandoned him and fell for Ruben (The "obvious" mole who's so clumsy) for the rest of the series. I was aware that I'm probably doing the same mistake (clumsy mole) from last year, so I did give Ruben the benefit of the doubt and lowkey still suspected Jan. So yeah, half a mole is better than no mole :)
Well done for Ruben for using it to clear his way to the prize. Unfortunately Olcay went empty handed, but no doubt - she was the best candidate we had in years and we were so lucky to have her the entire game. If they make an All Stars series, she should be there!
I think I'm the only one who escaped both the Stine tunnel and Simone tunnel - they were never on my molbook :D
I'm a bit disappointed that it wasn't a female mol and for me Jan was quite an obvious typecast for the mole, so it would've been even better if it was someone else. Nonetheless, still amazing series.
Not sure how can they top this series, but I'm eagerly waiting for WIDM19!

From the beginning, Jan & Olcay are not in my mole list because of their fanatic. However, I also said that I love them to be the mol because it would be fantastic and it happened. And also, I didn't think Ruben was the mol because I felt that the editing just fooled us all with that. Also, during the train task, I said that only Simone, Olcay and Jan could be the one who hide or threw the boxes so Ruben should be out of the mole list. Anyway, did anyone notice that during the crossword challenge, we thought Olcay found out the "MOL" word and Stine was the one who "crossed" it? I think a lot of people suspected Stine since then. But then they reveal Jan was the one who cross "MOL".

I knew this comment is late but Ruben couldn't be the mole. In Episode 2 when they had the chance to save Ron, he was the only guy who almost went to save Ron. Saving Ron was the right move since Ron was confirmed Not the mole so he could be trusted. Losing 2k at the start for a confirmed not a mole player that can lead everyone is very much worth it. That is why i never suspected him in the first place.

Well, my instincts were completely wrong about the Mole at every single turn this season. At least my hunch that the winner wasn't the Mole proved to be right.

Jan definitely deserves an Oscar for his acting! Even when it was down to three people and I was fairly certain Ruben was too obviously suspicious to be the Mole, I kept on writing off Jan as too sincere and tried too hard at challenges to be the Mole. I do have mixed feelings about his sabotages, though; a few of them were definitely spectacular like throwing the packages off the train and falling off the raft while taking the wrong tube, but it also felt like he didn't start doing these big sabotages until late in the season. He reminds me of S8's Mole who also had a fantastic "contestant" acting performance but seemed to prioritize staying hidden over sabotaging a bit too much for my taste. Then again, S8's Mole is highly-regarded in the Dutch fan community, so it's probably just a matter of personal preference for me. :)
Just how gutsy was Jan walking past every contestant during that episode 4 challenge, though?! I still can't believe that production was confident enough to let him do that without even a wig or sunglasses on!
Also, Ruben reminds me SO much of last season's runner-up in how a lot of people thought he was blatantly sabotaging a lot of challenges but it turned out he just sucked at them, heh. I wasn't expecting to get another season so soon after S17 in which only one contestant figures out who the Mole is but if you're that one contestant, you're a very deserving winner indeed. (And poor Olcay, this season's Diederik who still can't believe she was BFFs with the Mole!)
