Another on-point review Smokey, I loved the intro it was informative and that is something we can count on with you reviews. Always great flow, entertaining, and I always learn.
This is a menu that for a few years there had a FD ice cream sandwich.
The 2 moist towelettes is a mistake I believe. Only seen 3 towelettes in an FSR and only 1 in MCWs. 2 TPs in LRPs is regular but as you mentioned that's because they're essentially restricted calorie 24hr rations.
I have a case of 2017 MCWs to bust out soon. i wonder if there are any new menus?
Oh wow 2017 menus. My goodness it'd be nice to see a brand new menu.
I had a line in the review where I mentioned that the old menu 1 had the freeze dried ice cream sandwich but I cut it out for some reason.
I really wanted to get that point that the LRPs are used as 24 hr rations most of the time. It's not always but usually they only get 2 if anything.... usually never 3 from what I could find. I thought it was cool to get a accessories pack with what I was sure was a mistake. Plus the new creamer, and type 3 coffee was nice. I've had the type 3 coffee plenty of times but mixed with that new creamer was awesome. That creamer says for 8ozs, the coffee says 6 ozs. So I mixed them both in like 4.5- 5.0 ounces of water. Which made a really nice, smooth, creamy cup of Joe.
It's always a challenge no matter what the ration is to improve with every video. Hopefully people understand each ration a little better after watching my review. I don't have the most refined pallet in the world, or vocabulary that's for sure. So hopefully I can teach and entertain at the same time. If so then I'm doing my job I think.

TWO AND HALF GRAMS OF SALT!!!!! For a freeze dried meal it shouldn't even have a quarter of that.

Great video as always! Glad you enjoyed it!! It looked amazing!! And all the coffee creamers I’ve had from that case were in the same packaging, I like it better than the paper one myself.
Oh man it was awesome. I was literally stuffed. The actual coffee didn't mix very well which surprised me but the creamer was awesome. It was for 8 ozs and the coffee was for 6 ozs so I mixed it all in 5. Thanks again man I was happy with the way this video turned out.
The one consistent thing I've noticed with Mountain House mains, civilian or military, is it rehydrates better if you don't try to cut back on the water requirements. I'm actually surprised the rice rehydrated as well as it did. Even a couple ounces too little water tends to make the rice too crunchy to my taste. The green beans could have used the full measure of water unless you just like the crunchy texture. Mountain House really does a nice job with dehydrated chicken. I think the chicken quality is better than most freeze dried chicken to begin with, and I don't find it to overly chewy from too much tendon meat. Compared to the freeze dried mains in the modern MRE's, they are a really pleasant and tasty meat rather than the squishy texture of some of first freeze dried concoctions I had back in the 70's.
I've had some 70s Mt House even and they are weird. But my theory with the freeze dried food is number 1 have the hottest water possible, number 2 add less water than it calls for because if it's to much you can take it out but if it's not enough you can always add more.
The water temperature is a good point I forgot to mention. Anything just bellow boiling seems to work the best with Mountain House. As long as having a source of this very hot water is not a problem then a little less water than the spec is good way to go. In a real cold weather environment, it's hard to keep the water hot enough without being too lukewarm.. I'd prefer to take the chance of squishy food but have it all about the same temperature. If you're not in a subarctic situation, I'd go along with less water too.
I liked the chicken and rice a lot. I think the freeze dried cold weather foods always look tastier. I’m also for. Though because I feel like and mre should always have the giant crackers.

That is a beautiful knife. I love that canteen. Those cranberries look really fresh. I love the mountain house meals, I just did a review on the scrambled eggs and bacon today really good. A very good looking meal. I like this nut raisin mix as there is a good variety in there. Yes the candies I pick out and eat them separate as candy. Thanks for the great review.
I have had all of those in other rations, except for the main. Mountain house is good stuff, Just got one in, gonna review soon.
Awesome video buddy lol, I’m surprised it didn’t come all with the hot cocoa beverage powder as well, seemed like that would’ve been better than the orange drink lol. And what did you think of Steve1989’s 1899 British survival ration lol.
You mean the Boer War ration? I'll be trying some of that meat in a cool video I'm putting together. It's going to be a gauntlet of really old food that Steve has sent me over the years and a pack of smokes from 1909 to go with the oldest meat ever eaten.

Great review, I'm surprised you didn't have to add more water to the rice, I thought for sure it was gonna be crunchy. I've had the chocolate banana muffins top a couple of times and I also think it is right up there with the best of the pastries
I'm not sure if the muffin top I had is typical because it was insanely moist. It was good though. But as far as the mains go the key imo is to have the hottest water possible. I probably could have used less water.

I think that canteens awesome because it's keeps things really cold or really hot for a long time.

Unfortunately no because of the rubber seal and mouth piece. It's like that so your lips don't stick to it in the Artic.
Nothing like the Russian Winter MRE review...is that all of the food in the ration? USA Soldiers need more food and nutrients in their MREs...that is just a must!!!!!! How disappointing! compared to the Russian MREs. Im angry!!!
Well yes that's all in this single meal but you e gotta remember that the guys get x3 of these meal which is a ton of food if you think of 3 together.

Will show off Yugoslav mess kit in next review, you have seen before, but, they are wicked. Nut raisin mix, very cool, I love. I am glad not osmotic cranberries. I am unsure of process, however, anything that says osmotic, has off taste Amigo. LOL ! One hell of A main! Plenty of food sir. Interesting description on beans, still have bite? Do not like mushrooms generally? You sure you are Southern, LOL. Gundogging the nut and raisin mix ! I will do the same, providing next meal allows sir! Instant coffee, is, well, instant coffee, some better than others. Muffin top, looks good! I am not A fan of Bananas, however , this does look good! I am subscribed amigo. Great Review. I've only had a few MCW's so far as they are kind of hard to get in Europe but they've all tasted great. Really great. Often better than the regular MRE's. Again great review. Thanks for sharing.

I'll say the freshness of a freeze dried meal is hard to beat.
Damn. Sodium on that main is 109% of the RDA. They might as well just give you a salt lick. It still looks (and probably tastes) awesome, though.
Yeah it was good, really good. But I always see super high sodium levels in these meals for some reason. Even though they claim to keep the levels low.

I like to keep cayenne with me. It adds the heat and doesn't change the flavor of the meal to much.
Man I love these MCWs. My favourite US ration. Quite difficult and costly to get over to me here but I still get some :D

I thought I'd like this main but it ended up being alot better than I thought it was going to be. I will get this main again at some point. I have the old menu 1 LRP still I think. If you can get a 2013 or older. They had the freeze dried ice cream sandwich in them.

Definitely. I suggest getting a 3 or 4 pack if not a case from the Alaskan seller on eBay. I can't remember his name but he's even usually willing to make a deal.

Sorry smokey but mre coffee to me only works in 2 oz of water, down here in PR we have tres picachos, coffee so black it makes deathwish look like gatoraid

Are cranberries sliced and cranberries osmotic the same except one is sliced? Or are osmotic cranberries always whole?

Actually no. Osmotic cranberries have a sprayed on sugar glaze or something like that to add carbs. Cranberries sliced are just pure dried fruit. The osmotic cranberries if not stored correctly will turn with liquid on them because of heat and stuff.

We got them in a cold hell called Bridgeport and we hardly had water but the oriental chocked beside the seafood chowder was my favorite also look at the darn chicken and rice

Started watching ration videos with Steve, then tried RC Gusto but I have to say I like yours more than Gusto's the way you present is super similar to Steve and it's homey and still descriptive. I like your videos and keep up the good work.

I've been watching more of them over the last few days knowing me it'll be like with Steve's videos where I watched most of his videos in about a week or two. Working as a cook and having family and friends who serve makes these so interesting to me. It is always neat to see what they can make shelf stable and how things look and taste.
