Hows the battery??? Bought a JBL Extreme 2 years ago and the battery went out after 1 month of use. Awesome sounding speaker but because its No longer Portable, it is now just a desk speaker.
I'm just looking for something to place in my bedroom, this looks perfect. Good video, I like how you pointed out that this is a front facing speaker and the music travels in the direction of the JBL logo, it helps me make my choice easier because I don't really want something that's sends the sound all around in many directions.

Hey Ryan, these don't have overpowering bass, what these have are awesome bass for a speaker this size. Many bluetooth speakers this size sound small because they don't have large drivers but the 2 bass radiators make these sound like they are larger full range speakers. Do you have a chance to try these out? I know they are on display at many different stores. I think you'll be happy with the amount of bass. Good luck!
Yeah the Charge 3 is a better speaker. The Echo sounds pretty good but lacks in low and even distorts at higher volume. The Tap has even less bass than the Echo.

I think this gives you the best sound for the price. Also take a look at the UE Boom 2, that also sounds great and is pretty similar in features but they recently added Google Now and Siri integration if you use the UE app on your phone. Worth taking a look at if you like the Amazon Echo.
Hey Chris, the Charge 3 is the clear leader in my opinion under $200, you get better sound and better battery life than the competition with $50 dollars left to spare. You'd have to step up to the UE Megaboom for better sound, but that's twice the price. I'd go test it out if your nearby Best Buy or Target has it on display so you can really hear the difference in bass between this and other brands. It probably sounds like I work for JBL, but the sound quality is truly impressive, especially when you hear this compared to the competition. The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 2 is on sale this week at Best Buy for only $179.99, I haven't tried it myself, but it gets great reviews but has disappointing battery life. Good Luck!

I'd go with the JBL Charge 3, I think it sounds better and more balanced. Also, the Charge 3 is waterproof, less expensive, and has better battery life. But try and take a listen of both if you can, you won't be disappointed with the Charge 3. Good luck!

Thanks! Do you want on ear or over the ear? The Studio Wireless are over the ear and are great if you prefer a lot of bass. I'd say go with the Bose Soundlink over the ear though, they are extremely comfortable to wear for hours and sound more accurate. I'd say go for the Bose regardless unless you like the Beats brand. Can't go wrong either way but i'd suggest you try them on, the Bose are just more comfortable to me.
I've seen some reviews that charge 3 treble sound more subdued than in the charge 2. Have you noticed it's not worth worrying about it? I love my calls to high charge 2
+den4621 Unfortunately I have not had a chance to try out the Charge 2, but I can say that I am very pleased with the sound of the Charge 3. At normal volumes, it is well rounded, but lacks bass when really cranked up, but for a speaker this size, I am very impressed with how much bass there is. Treble seems just right to me but some people like a brighter sound. So in my opinion I would not worry about it, this is a very impressive speaker all around and it is definitely not lacking any treble. Good luck and thanks for watching!

I understand the Charge 3 (and other JBL portable speakers) has a startup, Bluetooth activation and shutdown sound. In an online chat with JBL today, they said there's no way to deactivate or turn those off. Is that your experience? If I bought a Charge 3, I'd use it in some quiet locations and I think those sounds could be distracting. Can you share insights on that? How loud are those sounds? Do other portable speakers do the same thing? While a small thing, this might be a deal-breaker for me. Thanks in advance.
Yes that is true, there is no way to deactivate the startup and shutdown sound as far as I am aware. I'll be honest, it can be annoying in certain situations (if you had a small child napping in the other room). It is probably slightly louder than speaking volume, and also makes a sound when it connects via bluetooth. Most bluetooth speakers I have tried have some sort of startup and shutdown sound as well though.
Nick - Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. After another chat with JBL, I learned the startup, Bluetooth and shutdown sound volume is VARIABLE. They told me the volume of those sounds depends on the volume setting on the speaker or the attached device when the speaker was last turned off. If they were left up loud, the sounds will be loud the next time the speaker is turned on. If they were left down low, the sounds will be much quieter when the speaker is turned on. Would you be willing to test that? I'm very curious if it works, and very curious how quiet the sounds could be. Thanks again.

+Rendell Ng Hi Rendell, The Charge 3 is a nice upgrade from the Charge 2 but I'm not sure its worth the $150 if you're already happy with the Charge 2. I would say the Charge 3 beats the Flip 3 in every area, better battery life, more powerful speakers, and totally waterproof... But the Flip 3 can be found for $79.99. So if money is not a factor, definitely go with the Charge 3, otherwise the Flip 3 is a great option and leaves you some money to spend elsewhere. Good luck!

Yes I would go with the JBL Charge 3, it has better sound and deeper bass than the Pill. It also is waterproof and has much better battery life compared to the Pill. Hello Nick. I could not find the information on the JBL.com website. (hate it when manufacturers websites don't give all the pertinent information: dimensions, 3.5mm plugins. etc...) It either is compatible or it isn't. And most shops will not accept them for cash return, you must accept a store credit if you open the box. Personally, I don't want a $150 credit at Target. And they don't have any on display to see if it is compatible. Too big a RISK for me. Is the "Auxiliary Input" a 3.5mm plug in to connect directly from an Ipod..? If I use the bluetooth on my Ipod, the battery runs out too quickly. I want it plugged directly into my Ipod so it will play for 8 hours.

In my opinion the Charge 3 sounds only slightly better than the Charge 2+, bass is more pronounced and fuller, but Cnet's review points out that the bass isn't as defined as the Charge 2+. Audio is very subjective but I feel the Charge 3 is very well balanced and sounds as good or better than anything in its price range. The Charge 3 has better sound and deeper bass than the Pill 2.0. It also is waterproof and has much better battery life compared to the Pill. Generally speaking you are going to get better sound with larger drivers, but for a portable speaker of this size, you can't go wrong, and this speaker gives you the total package. Are you able to listen to this speaker in person? I know it's on display at Target, Best Buy and Meijer stores if you have one near you. Good Luck!

I haven't personally tested the Big Jambox so I can't comment on the audio quality but they do seem similar in size and performance. If you don't care about the waterproof design or the powerbank to charge your device, I'd say give the Big Jambox a listen if you can still find it in stores, it is pretty old. Sorry I can't give you an opinion of the sound quality. Good luck!
The Charge 3 has slightly larger drivers and more power. But the difference is minor in quality. The Charge 3 is fully waterproof and has double the battery life. If you don't care about the light show of the Pulse 2, I would go for the Charge 3.
Hi Yaim, the Flip 3 is like the little brother to the Charge 3. The Charge 3 has better specs in every category but also costs a bit more. The Charge 3 has better battery life, is fully waterproof, has larger drivers and more power. So see if you can listen to them in person, if the Flip 3 sounds loud and large enough to you, then save some money and go with the Flip 3. Good luck!

You can get the volume loud enough to make it difficult to have a conversation over, but the bass is not going to fill the room like larger speakers could. So if you were expected dance music with pounding bass, you will be disappointed, but for music that you can still hold a conversation with another person, this will work great.

+Mohammed Qaid Hey Mohammed, it doesn't quite work that way, an amp / dac running into the auxiliary input only boosts the signal coming into the Charge 3, not the output. The output of the speaker is driven by the internal amp, which can put out 10 watts per speaker and there is no way to change that. So this speaker can get plenty loud, and has amazing bass for it's small size, but if you're looking for deep bass at high levels, you will need to find a speaker that has larger drivers and a more powerful amp. As I mentioned, this thing does get loud, but it is no match for full range speakers and a dedicated amp.
+Mohammed Qaid Headphone amps are amplifying the signal that is driving the actual drivers inside the headphones. On a typical bluetooth speaker, there is an internal amp that is directly driving the speakers. These speakers are also called active speakers, because there is an internal amp, and you don't need a separate amp. If you were to buy passive speakers, like bookshelf speakers, then you would need an amp, which would be found inside an AV Receiver, or you could also buy a stand alone amp, these would provide something like 50 or 100 watts to drive a speaker, so they could go much louder than the Charge 3, which only has 10 watts per speaker. So every speaker needs an amp, headphone amps are made to drive headphones. Let me know if that clears it up!

Well I just brought the JBL Xtreme!!!! The charge 3 hasnt released here in nz so i upgraded!! Sooo worth the money and the sound and bass is amazing.Prob the best portable bluetooth speaker on the market hands down!

I have the Flip 4, Charge 3 & Extreme. In my opinion the Charge 3 is the best bang for the buck. Very good sound for its size.

If I bought a Charge 3, I'd use it in some quiet locations and I think those sounds could be distracting. Can you share insights on that? How loud are those sounds? Do other portable speakers do the same thing? While a small thing, this might be a deal-breaker for me. Thanks in advance.
Yes that is true, there is no way to deactivate the startup and shutdown sound as far as I am aware. I'll be honest, it can be annoying in certain situations (if you had a small child napping in the other room). It is probably slightly louder than speaking volume, and also makes a sound when it connects via bluetooth. Most bluetooth speakers I have tried have some sort of startup and shutdown sound as well though.

After another chat with JBL, I learned the startup, Bluetooth and shutdown sound volume is VARIABLE. They told me the volume of those sounds depends on the volume setting on the speaker or the attached device when the speaker was last turned off. If they were left up loud, the sounds will be loud the next time the speaker is turned on. If they were left down low, the sounds will be much quieter when the speaker is turned on.
Would you be willing to test that? I'm very curious if it works, and very curious how quiet the sounds could be. Thanks again.

+Rendell Ng Hi Rendell, The Charge 3 is a nice upgrade from the Charge 2 but I'm not sure its worth the $150 if you're already happy with the Charge 2. I would say the Charge 3 beats the Flip 3 in every area, better battery life, more powerful speakers, and totally waterproof... But the Flip 3 can be found for $79.99. So if money is not a factor, definitely go with the Charge 3, otherwise the Flip 3 is a great option and leaves you some money to spend elsewhere. Good luck!

Yes I would go with the JBL Charge 3, it has better sound and deeper bass than the Pill. It also is waterproof and has much better battery life compared to the Pill. You might want to take a look at the UE Boom 2, that is a closer competitor. The Beats Pill is not a bad choice, especially if you can find it on sale. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Hello Nick. I could not find the information on the JBL.com website. (hate it when manufacturers websites don't give all the pertinent information: dimensions, 3.5mm plugins. etc...) It either is compatible or it isn't. And most shops will not accept them for cash return, you must accept a store credit if you open the box. Personally, I don't want a $150 credit at Target. And they don't have any on display to see if it is compatible. Too big a RISK for me.
Is the "Auxiliary Input" a 3.5mm plug in to connect directly from an Ipod..? If I use the bluetooth on my Ipod, the battery runs out too quickly. I want it plugged directly into my Ipod so it will play for 8 hours.

In my opinion the Charge 3 sounds only slightly better than the Charge 2+, bass is more pronounced and fuller, but Cnet's review points out that the bass isn't as defined as the Charge 2+. Audio is very subjective but I feel the Charge 3 is very well balanced and sounds as good or better than anything in its price range. The Charge 3 has better sound and deeper bass than the Pill 2.0. It also is waterproof and has much better battery life compared to the Pill. Generally speaking you are going to get better sound with larger drivers, but for a portable speaker of this size, you can't go wrong, and this speaker gives you the total package. Are you able to listen to this speaker in person? I know it's on display at Target, Best Buy and Meijer stores if you have one near you. Good Luck!

I haven't personally tested the Big Jambox so I can't comment on the audio quality but they do seem similar in size and performance. If you don't care about the waterproof design or the powerbank to charge your device, I'd say give the Big Jambox a listen if you can still find it in stores, it is pretty old. The Charge 3 has slightly larger drivers and more power. But the difference is minor in quality. The Charge 3 is fully waterproof and has double the battery life. If you don't care about the light show of the Pulse 2, I would go for the Charge 3.

Hi Yaim, the Flip 3 is like the little brother to the Charge 3. The Charge 3 has better specs in every category but also costs a bit more. The Charge 3 has better battery life, is fully waterproof, has larger drivers and more power. So see if you can listen to them in person, if the Flip 3 sounds loud and large enough to you, then save some money and go with the Flip 3. Good luck!

You can get the volume loud enough to make it difficult to have a conversation over, but the bass is not going to fill the room like larger speakers could. So if you were expected dance music with pounding bass, you will be disappointed, but for music that you can still hold a conversation with another person, this will work great.

+Mohammed Qaid Hey Mohammed, it doesn't quite work that way, an amp / dac running into the auxiliary input only boosts the signal coming into the Charge 3, not the output. The output of the speaker is driven by the internal amp, which can put out 10 watts per speaker and there is no way to change that. So this speaker can get plenty loud, and has amazing bass for it's small size, but if you're looking for deep bass at high levels, you will need to find a speaker that has larger drivers and a more powerful amp. As I mentioned, this thing does get loud, but it is no match for full range speakers and a dedicated amp.

+Mohammed Qaid Headphone amps are amplifying the signal that is driving the actual drivers inside the headphones. On a typical bluetooth speaker, there is an internal amp that is directly driving the speakers. These speakers are also called active speakers, because there is an internal amp, and you don't need a separate amp. If you were to buy passive speakers, like bookshelf speakers, then you would need an amp, which would be found inside an AV Receiver, or you could also buy a stand alone amp, these would provide something like 50 or 100 watts to drive a speaker, so they could go much louder than the Charge 3, which only has 10 watts per speaker. So every speaker needs an amp, headphone amps are made to drive headphones. Let me know if that clears it up!

Well I just brought the JBL Xtreme!!!! The charge 3 hasnt released here in nz so i upgraded!! Sooo worth the money and the sound and bass is amazing.Prob the best portable bluetooth speaker on the market hands down!

Yes. This unit will play as the battery charges. It will take longer to charge the battery, but it does work.
