Wer nur den Lieben Gott lasst walten (If thou but suffer God to guide thee) was published in the Schubler Chorales, a set of six transcriptions of cantata movements published in Bach's lifetime. The preeminent Bach scholar, Peter Williams, quoting Walter Emery, "The arrangements are much less effective than the originals, and it is hard to see why Bach published them." The Schubler Chorales are staples of organ literature, but they are trickier to play than they sound. The organ is the Arp/FC Schnitger at Zwolle, The Netherlands, St. Michael's Church, on my home Hauptwerk. I hope you enjoy.
