I really love the thief class in engage. Daggers are great-- easy to upgrade, powerful, ranged, light, accurate, and they even apply a nice lil debuff-- and the class has great growths early. But in the mid game it really starts to lag behind a bit and it just sucks theres not some sort of assassin/rogue option to help out. Its made all the worse by the fact that you cant pull characters out of thief once in it nearly as easily since you need to be level 20 to rank up. So if you reclass someone into thief, even as soon as its available, it will still likely take a really long time to get back out of that class. Just super annoying.

Was just commenting that Solar Brace would seem to have interesting utility in the absence of staves aside from your Micaiah and Celica unit.
And as a side note relating to this map: as long as you can defeat one of the Thieves early on, the remaining Thief will attempt to grab both chests, giving you time to catch up before he escapes the map.
It sucks how thief's can't steal that would be cool and how they can't reclass like in fe 6 is ood just choose rouge or something thief's in this game do nothing that special I just wish they could steal maybe make second seals harder to find like having some on foes that you can steal from if they added that it would be pretty epic.
Pass, covert terrain bonuses that enable them to become invincible when you want them to be or just have enemies with 5 hit, daggers having high might and 1-2 range with crit, Thieves are the best Byleth bots because +5 speed OP and Pass and the ability to become invincible in terrain = capable of dancing in places lots of other classes can't reach or survive the next turn in.
And Endgame Engage has so much fucking terrain btw.
The problem isn't that thieves aren't useful. It's that people don't put enough thought behind figuring out what you can do to most effectively take advantage of their plus points. The fact people dismiss Thieves because enemies won't attack you with 0 hit is fucking ridiculous, that can be an extremelly good thing, from enabling you to have a Thief go somewhere to kill a specific hard to reach enemy like a Meteor Sage or an enemy with an item or a chest, to enabling you to use a Thief as a support unit instead and not needing to worry about enemies killing your support unit. Between Thieves and terrain bonuses Thieves have more flexibility in positioning than any other unit, even fliers. That can be extremely strong. You just have to strategize around effectively using these benefits.

So when will you be doing a food weapon only challenge run? Preferably with combat animations on, since that's half the fun? At least food weapons will give you access to Tiramisu for armored units kek

something i might try is thief kagetsu on crit daggers, possibly give him chrome to ensure he can actually kill on crits from the brute force
(Kagetsu is high dex for crit rate and thief is more dex than wolf knight)

Rafal with Ike, he does really well with Lyn and wondering how dragon Ike will do
Yunaka does this too, in fact she has the highest crit in the game with a steel dagger, hovering around low to mid 90s in terrain with Wrath and a Corrin Engraving. Kagetsu honestly has enough strength that he's actually really good with just a Silver Dagger +3-4 and not relying on crit, or hell a Peshkatz for a solid chance for crit while also having 20 might which wil, I'd lean towards gentilty as a skill for him, helps his damage and his bulk, which is still pretty solid even in Wolf Knight and you can rely on him to EP more enemies, it's nice, Merrin if you want to use her physical side is best going for Wrath, with Merrin you're choosing between a Levin Sword build or a crit dagger build.
@@FUTBALLZAK highest crit in the game is sniper Jean which is really good; early game give him long bow and radiant bow and starts being useful immediately as an archer (needs to be an archer at level 1).
Run claude's S tier ring for the bow range, and balanced version you run Brute Force and overpowered version you run Lunar Brace+. You really just run killer bow, long bow, and radiant bow - brave bow good with lunar brace+ - camilla engrave the killer bow, but you can get away with corrin or eirika engraves.
I didn't say highest crit, I said highest crit with a 1-2 range weapon, steel dagger 10 crit, Corrin Engrave 30 crit, Wrath 30 crit, personal skill 15 crit, half of dex mid 30s by endgame so let's say 15, 100 crit with a steel dagger.
Also like no Jean doesn't have the highest crit, it is Yunaka with the highest crit, because of her personal skill. You can reclass Yunaka into Sniper and she'd have higher crit than Jean, Killer Bow 40 crit, Wrath 30, personal skill 15, class skill 15, that's 100 before even factoring in dex or a crit Engraving, which isn't even necessary here, I guess you probably would still want a +10 crit Engraving like Marth since some enemies, like Swordmasters and Wolf Knights, have pretty good luck so she might not have 100 crit off of terrain (she 100% will on it though) so may as well give her a +10 crit Engraving if you have a spare one, but it's not strictly necessary and you definitely don't need to waste +20 or 30.
Like it isn't an opinion, Yunaka DOES have the highest crit potential, no one else has +15 crit from their personal, Panette (and Nel and Rafal with DLC) are next up with 10 crit. Idk why you bring up Jean here, he's not doing anything special in the crit department, he's just relying on the sniper class skill and the Killer Bow, not really doing anything any other sniper couldn't also do, I guess 'cause double dex growths but like 2 points of dex is +1 crit, your dex matters but with 10 more dex (which I doubt Jean has, his base dex is much worse after all) that's 5 more crit, so Yunaka is +10 with the same build, Panette +5.
@@FUTBALLZAK crit is based on your dex, sniper jean has 95% dex which is the highest in the game.
The problem with yunaka, she is an insane amount of investment to get going and the game barely has avoid tiles. So she ends up being worse most of the time than someone that has way more dex.
Sniper jean will end up with over 90% crit with killer bow and camilla engrave.
@@MasterStacona So? It's half dex, Jean would need 30 more dex than Yunaka to catchup to her personal skill, I am 100% sure he will never get 30 dex over Yunaka
Avoid tiles are many, especially in Endgame, and you can make more with Dragon, investment is Mici spamming her in her join chapter, forging her dagger to like steel +1, and Wrath, 2000 SP, feasible, and the Corrin Engraving, ideally an Emblem, like all your units basically, Roy works pretty ideally
And for her to Byleth bot her investment is canter early game, maybe Favourite Food, and an avoid Engraving, ideally Mici. That is pretty fucking low.
So no. She doesnt. It's like medium investment for combat and low for utility. Honestly how do you keep brushing past the low investment utility shit, you keep ignoring it, it's really good and basically free.
You'll also run into the problem where there's no staff users so u basically have no support

Goldmary is a very slow unit, Louis is literally faster than Goldmary straight up
Jade is also slow, but approaches average speed, but she is still slow
The only unit slower than Goldmary is Madeline, but Madeline has 50% strength growth to make up for it.
The only thing Goldmary can do well at is General to make use of her defense growth, but she hits soft unlike Louis or Madeline who have high strength to go with their high defense.
DAYUM JADE IS THICC AF
