- THE 'D' RIG - The Carp Fishing Wafter Rig That's Super Simple To Tie! Mainline Baits Carp Fishing TV
In this carp fishing 2020 video, we show you how to tie THE 'D' RIG, a carp rig that is ideally suited to the presentation of wafting hookbaits or balanced baits such as 'snowman' arrangements. This wafter rig positions the hookbait tight to the lakebed, making it less obvious than a pop-up - an advantageous element when carp are perhaps feeding close to a clean area of lakebed and potentially suspicious of baits not sitting in a similar way to the freebies. What's more, this carp rig utilises a fluorocarbon hooklink material, making it practically invisible in water and therefore perfect for clear water conditions, which again is another benefit when fishing for wary carp!

not tried this yet, but had great success with a ronnie rig and mainline pop up baits, will be giving this a go soon!
Sounds good Paul - this rig is a great option for using our Balanced Wafters.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV will keep you posted on how it pans out!
Can anyone tell me if this rig is better suited to a led clip setup or inline lead? Thanks
HI, I would keep away from in-line leads unless your are fishing in a pva bag, and if you are dont use fluro as its to stiff, braid a better choice.
I cannot see what you’re doing too quickly lol
The backgrounds terrible for viewing
Great video need a better background colour next time 👍
Noted!
You use a anti tangle sleeve. Is a Rubber bead maybe better than an anti tangle sleeve?
An anti-tangle sleeve works best.
My go-to rig but use mine on the spinner rig using a d-rig kicker , never fails me
Like it David!
How can you be so sure?
Really good rig I've used it a lot... Cheers John and thanks to all the team
Our pleasure Jay!
I'm new to carp fishing can I use coated braid instead and use a kicker instead of shrink tubing many thanks
If you'd prefer coated braid I'd tie up the Slip D Rig - here's the link to the video: ua-cam.com/video/h38SM3YyMz0/v-deo.html
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV thank you very much for replying and ur help
Hi John is this always tied with IQ or can there be used other material? Die example mouthtrap or coated hooklink?
I would stick to a soft fluorocarbon - if you'd prefer to use coated braid then I'd tie up the Slip D Rig: ua-cam.com/video/h38SM3YyMz0/v-deo.html
Grate vid as allways John I can't tie the whipping knot so I use the d rig kickers on mine lol 😆
Thanks Ashley!
Hey John and mainliners, how does IQ2 hold up in terms of anti tangle on a heli set up with lead core?
I like it and don't encounter any problems.
The new David Attenborough :-)? Nice video, thanks.
Another great video ... will be shared immediately in my group :D Thank you brother !
Awesome thank you!
As always great video and helped me alot as getting back into the carp fishing.i save all your videos.great stuff .thanks👌
Great to hear Shaun!
The mainline how to tie rigs are great videos, thanks for sharing, not rig I commonly use but heard good things about it so will experiment with it. 😁👍
Thanks Bill 👍
Been using the rig Since last summer and catch rate has gone through the roof 👌😀
Nice - thats good to hear 👍
Great video. Love watching these. Whats everyone's go to rig of choice for an allrounder
Glad you enjoyed the video Daniel - this rig covers a great many situations: ua-cam.com/video/YJgzikH8Txo/v-deo.html
Great helpfull Video , again with a lovely sweet putty :)
Glad you liked it!
Thanks john, loving Saturday's lessons 👌🤙🎣
Very welcome!
I always get my whipping knot in position before pulling it tight. Great vid mainline!
Good tip!
Does the water have to be clear ?
Hi, no this rig is suitable for all water clarities.
Videos are great thank you! Having switched from match your content is so helpful!!!
Thanks Ed! Glad you like them!
Wow. So complicated. Just returned to the sport and not sure I have the eyesight and dexterity to do all that. Hopefully there will be some good ready tied rigs available somewhere.
Thanks John great video new to carp fishing
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it!
Also my one and only rig. Its so flexible, you can fish whatever bait and size you want with only one rig
Its a great presentation!
I’ve just got back into angling after I did it as a kid - thanks for the video!
Couple of questions: can this rig be used for smaller tackle?
What’s the advantage of using tungsten putty vs a swan shot?
Thanks!
Yes you could scale down this rig a little if needed. The putty is more line friendly and neater really.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Thanks again - subbed!
Lo sfondo è un disastro per gli occhi...
say it AGAIN TILL IM PURPLE best videos to date
Thanks - glad you're enjoying them!
Best rig ever! Thank you!
I use this on a running rig setup in all conditions and had good success but have always been told to use a straight eye hook..looking at yours i assume this isnt the case John
Hi Jane, sounds good - you can use the set-up in a multitude of ways, it just pays to monitor what is or isn't working for you and make adjustments if needed.
does a figure 8 knot weaken the flurocarbon? ive heard it can??
Hi Owen, I have never, ever had a problem, so from my experience I'd say no.
Had trouble with choosing what rig I felt confident with. Tried this rig today and nailed a mirror in the bottom lip.. Will definitely be my go to for fishing on the lake bed.. (if clear)
Nice! Well done Jack!
Does it really need the anti tsngle
Berkley big game line is tough! I've been using it for over 25 years. This last spool of 15# solar collector green caught the 42# blue cat in the pic.
Serait t'il possible de faire de temps en temps des vidéos en français svp, je pense que la communauté francophone qui vous suivent ou achètent vos produits serai fortement intéressé, au moins sous titré vos vidéos !
A bit fiddly for an old man with poor eyes and stubby fingers, but I think I've managed it. Thank you for the very clear instructions. 👍
Glad it helped Jeff!
Hi Jeff, if it is a bit too fiddly for you, you can skip the whipping knot and secure the rig with some rig rube and one end if the fluorcarbon blobbed of for the same effect without the fuzz!
Kan you please us a nother colar lin
Could you tie an overhand loop knot instead of a figure of 8?
I do prefer the figure of eight - a stronger knot in my opinion.
One of my best rigs explained perfect
Thanks David!
can i make this rig with fox wide gape braked ?
You could, but I'd always prefer the Kurv as the hook shank is that little bit longer than the wide gape so gives the D a longer shallower loop.
Brilliant m8 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thanks Kev 👍
Are there any advantages of this over the German rig? Both very similar when finished I just hate tying the d rig.
Only if fluorocarbon is going to make a difference for you in clear water, after that its really just about personal preference.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV ok thanks
Personally don't think it turns aswell with an anti tangle sleeve, tied straight to a swivel the hook drops immediately when the bait is picked up.
Okay Darryl. I'm just a huge fan of anti tangle sleeves with all my rigs - I once fishing a lake (Stoneacres) where you could inspect your rig after casting with a boat and aqua scope. Without an anti tangle sleeve, so say with a ring swivel attachment the rig would often, well nearly always come to rest laying back on the leader - with an anti tangle sleeve the rig would always be well presented away from the leader and lead, and that influenced me a lot.
I'm just an average angler but I find if the bait is balanced so it literally just sinks and put 2 pieces of foam on the hook it always lays out straight away from the lead (steamed and straightened)with a flourocarbon hooklink .Glad to see mainlines best presenter is back this week 👍👍
@@darrylclarkson1799 Yeah that'll work Darryl - thanks fella!
Another great vid John
Thanks Alan 👍
Heres a tip johnny..when tying the first whipping knot, the tag end that you pull to make the first knot, when you have it in place with the loop put the tag end in the hole in the hook this secures it while tying the knot then pull the tag end out from the hole and pull as you would..
I make rigs on my Fishing group on fb. Carp Fishing. Rigs tips and tactics.. Nearly 20k member since January cant believe it.. please inbox me and I will send some out for you to judge please.. would love your feedback and check out my group and rigs see what you think..
Nice tip!
Great video again 👏
Glad you enjoyed it James!
Another great video @mainlinebaits
Thanks guys!
Really love your videos they are helping me so musch as i get back into fishing.
Great to hear!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Ill deffinetly be watching more soon :-)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video with excellent demonstration. Regards, Wayne
Just built the rig and can’t wait to use it. Any suggestions on baits to use for that particular rig?
Thats great Charlie - any of our 15mm Balanced Wafters or Cork Dust Wafters are great with this rig.
Plenty of stuff at your local supermarket...
Oh sorry only works with mainline baits
🎉
Observation: I've seen a YT of videos on the subject, and have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a 'simple' and 'easy' D-Rig compared to a basic line, bobber, sinker, and hook rig. Too many tools, parts, and details required to make it work correctly. This is clearly a rig for professional to OCD-minded amateur anglers. Thanks for posting though, very informative if you have the patience to put the rig together. Maybe I'll try it when I get sink of watching those gigantic carp cruising through my present fave fishing hole undisturbed...LMBO!!!
Richard try it and no longer will you be watching those carp swimming undisturbed in your swim 🤣 you may actually catch one 👍
Nice👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪💪💪💪
Thanks 🔥
That's the best and easiest version yet.
I've been trying to master it for years.
Thanks John 👍
You're very welcome!
All you need to make this is a hook and some mono.
Make a hair rig with mono without the loop for the bait.
Instead put the "hair end back through the eye of the hook, blob it.
There's your D
Then use the same mono through the bait to attach the bait.
But that wouldn't sell much tackle would it
Great video love watching these
Glad you like them!
Thank you for sharing your fishing tips
No problem 👍
Привет, Джон. Спасибо за видео! Очень позновательно!
Lovely stuff, deadly rig!
Sure is!
Thanks brother i love fishing
No problem!
Thank you ! Your voice is really impressive and clear. I wish you will change the color of background (table top) to a plain dark blue color (or similar), so viewer can see more clear on the monofilament and rigs.
No problem - we have ordered some new backgrounds, coming soon!
Good 🙂
Thanks 😄
Sehr schönes Video und sehr gut erklärt!
Thanks!
Just use mono to add bait, not a ring swivvel. it acts better, is just as easy and can be adapted too. Blob the end to hold bait in place
Just use mono to make the whole rig
(Except the hook)
But this video is aimed at the company selling their products not showing people how to make over ten thousand rigs for a tenner excluding the hooks
SUPER!
Many thanks!
Nice video 👌
Thanks!
best
Thanks!
👍👍👍👍...!!!
Thanks!
For centuries people have tried to describe fishing with pen and paper. But some smart, fun and most creative people like you, have turned it into reality and made it really interesting.
Thanks for sharing this nice fishing
Wow, thank you!
Lol this isn't a bloke in his shed, it's a company advertising products
This rig took me from catching 8-12 pounders to catching upper teens and into the 20's,can literally use it anywhere with boilies, wafters or pop ups, great rig👍🎣
Well done Dale!
Thanx again guys, I love learning how to tie these rigs and it really helps me out when I'm on the lakes with not a lot to do ☺️ x
Our pleasure!
My favourite bottom bait rig by far. Caught so many fish on it, the way the hook just flips over and catches hold every time and the stiffness of the boom section is so difficult for fish to eject. Great rig, great vid as always, keep em coming!
Thanks Daniel - we will!
