Wow. This was filmed less than 2 months before his diagnosis, and you can see it in his eyes. So very sad. There's nothing at all fair about life. Hal was such a talented singer with an amazing voice. RIP Hal. Thank you for sharing your voice with us.
This is my favourite deep cut of his. But that whole album was full of so many good songs. As a bit of late bloomer in his music career too, years spent perfecting his music and broke into the scene at just the perfect time when more traditional sounding country artists were once again popular for country radio. True country fans always yearn for that during Nashville’s multiple times of creating pop crossover artists. Which is why many of us are listening more to Roots/Americana artists where it’s a bit like the 70s outlaw movement and wanting to make meaningful music, with lyrics that make you truly feel. Hal Ketchum had that in his writing. But I do concur this should have been a single. I remember as a kid that I asked my Dad to learn the song to play for me (he’s a PT musician. A couple Ketchum songs part of their band’s set lists for decades now). He’s been playing it again a lot after hearing of his passing. With my dad having a father also with Alzheimer’s/dementia (although not early onset like Ketchum’s) it’s still the same hell. For the person suffering and the family. While an atheist, I do sometimes envision musician heaven and that it’d probably be pretty cool. Unfortunately just adding up those we’ve lost in just 2020 would make one hell of a supergroup.
Beautiful voice. I had the honor and pleasure of enjoying the gifted Hal Ketchum, along with sweet Kenny Grimes, perform multiple times the last couple of years here in Texas. Such a loss, his music will live on.
I was an overnight operator at a small town radio station in 1991 when the new country was heating up. I loved Hal Ketchum. I remember a college professor, who had some work for CMT over those years writing and reporting about the new artists. He described Ketchum as unique- a renaissance man of sorts, he could have easily doubled as a male fashion model, and had a unique sound and gift in his music. I'll never forget that, and I've pulled up some songs every few years. I had no idea he passed. This is a beautiful song.
My favorite Hal song. I was totally blessed to go to the Grand Ole Opry...and Hal Ketchum was on the stage that night. I swear, there was no one else I wanted to see and there he was!!! It was also my birthday week. I was at a public school convention. The first one I ever went to.
If you loved Hal’s voice, guitar and writing then you knew he was special. A wordsmith, a poet, a liver of life. I know I was truly lucky to sit in his audiences a few times and to be taken on a journey with Hal as everyone there was, if only for a couple of hours. I’ll listen to Hal Ketchum’s music for the rest of my time here. God bless you, Hal. Rest easy, oh great one.
I'm still mourning Hal Ketchum. Still breaks my heart to see him perform, but this particular video is the hardest of all !! God Bless your Spirit Hal! Still love your music
We saw Hal in Big Bear Lake, California shortly before he quit touring. He is a seriously underrated singer and songwriter. He is irreplaceable in country music.
My father passed from dementia just last year. All my grieving, all my mourning, all my tears, all of him that I could remember filled my mind last december. My prayers to all here, and the Ketchum family who have suffered and rejoiced along side anyone who battled dementia.
I'm a little frustrated with myself. I hadn't kept up with Mr. Ketchum since the 90's. I had just remembered him for a few hits that were always on the radio back then. It took the news of his passing to see some of what he had been producing as of late. What an amazing talent he was.
Saw him in Chicago in Grant Park and when he started playing this, he saw my reaction to the first notes, and he smiled at me. He just seemed so content to share his music and what an authentic talent it was. Bless you Hal.
Listening to Hal on UA-cam since about 5:00 when I heard of Hal's passing. I'm so sad, but sure that he is in a better place. Rest in Peace, poet. You will surely be missed.
Rest in paradise Hal. Your songs will live forever! I’m 24 and 5 years ago me and my friends were always driving circles in our little town blasting Small Town Saturday Night. Some great memories to your music playing in the background. ❤️
Been listening to this man since 1991. He was unbelievable. So sad he left us early. He was truly a misrepresented singer and song writer. I listen to him and drink my whiskey nightly. I will always love this man. Rest in peace brother.
The purest of voices. Most humble of men. Genius artist. The lives of strangers you have touched, maybe you know now. You are now free. Rest in peace , sweet, sweet prince.
I didn't know he was gone till now 3/14/2021. My wife and I used to listen to his songs on road trips. This one got alot of replay. Now it's hard to listen knowing the man is no longer with us.
One of the beautiful, masterful things that always runs through my brain on this song is the choice of words around “lover of a drink, lover of a fight, one more round can surely set things right” A round of drinks? A round of a fight? I just love what he did there, tied them both together.
I'll always remember watching Hal sing Hang in there Superman and my sister (5 yrs old at the time) noticed his wedding ring and started crying because she had it set she'd marry him one day ❤️. RIP Hal.
As a country music drummer myself, I thank you for the music and the memories, lost my mother last year to end stage alzheimers, 🙏 to entire family, dont know you all, but somehow I feel like I do. Rest in eternal peace Hal.
My top three best country songs of all time 3.Kenny Rogers - Coward of the county 2.Colin Raye - Love Me 1.Hal Ketchum - I miss my Mary. Rest easy Hal Ketchum! Prayers to his family and loved one's.
This song opens so many emotional floodgates. One of the most talented humans there has ever been. I can see your future in yours eyes, here. One last gift. Thank you so much.
I still remember the very first time I listened to Sure Love, and Hal Ketchun turned my favorite country singer! Thank you so much, Hal, for all the songs you sang with your very unique and beatiful voice! Just now I learned you passed away last year, R.I.P Hal Ketchun, you'll surely sing with the angels!
I'm so sad. I loved his originals and his arrangements of cover songs. I was so lucky to meet him backstage during the previous millennium at The Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. I was teaching English back then, and he was really into children's lit and making toys for kids. He was a master carpenter. His paintings were exhibited in respected galleries. What an amazing person.
yes it was sad hearin of hals passin....seen him in glasgows grand ole opry ..thank god i took the video ..and recorded most of the show .even got to talk to him on the break outside that night .and he spoke to fans at end of the night ...a great man .just great memories... Rip hal....
I was shocked to find out that Hal's health isn't great .. His wife released a message saying that his Dementia is getting worse ... I send him all my love. Hal 's music has been a soundtrack of my life ... Keep fighting Hal.. You're may never remember us, but we'll never forget you .. Always in My prayers .
I saw him in Rochester, Mn back in 95 or so, then did security detail as he played a gig 24 years later. He got off the bus and was kind to me. As I gig out in public I do a few of his songs....now including this one. Kevin Kleist music on facebook. RIP
Good to see him pickin and singin with ole KG. Great pair. One of the greatest mysteries to me is how this man never became a superstar. Obviously, I hear something more than most of the music execs when I hear him sing. One of the purest voices ever. Can't get enough of Hal's music
I got this album or cd when it came out. I was 21 I think. I really liked small town Saturday night. But I listened to the whole thing and I remember hearing this song the first time. It made a life long impression on me. So I’m 54 now and still listening. I also still have the cd that I still listen to sometimes.
Hal, you were always one of my favorite! I remember when we would run into each other around town. You were always so kind, I always said you were dreamy! 😍Glad I can still hear you and enjoy your beautiful voice. Miss you Hal. God bless you, Rest in peace.🙏
Only realising he passed. Love his music and how it resonates in my soul. This generation needs to be careful, we can not lose this music that comes from humility and the soul.
I honestly believe this man/artist is one of the most underrated performers in country music. Rest in Peace Hal.
Agreed 😢
Agreed.
The most underrated country stars , his passing was a great loss to music and the human experience of story telling .
Wow. This was filmed less than 2 months before his diagnosis, and you can see it in his eyes. So very sad.
There's nothing at all fair about life. Hal was such a talented singer with an amazing voice.
RIP Hal. Thank you for sharing your voice with us.
One of my favorite Hal Ketchum songs. RIP Hal, the world has lost another beautiful voice and talent.

🤔🤔🤔
I will never fear for I will never feel. Man that’s tough.
A truly profound line ...
One of the top 5 underrated greatest songwriters and singers of all time!
Rest in peace, Hal. Dammit you'll be missed.
Amen brother, amen.
This one hurts, I'll miss you mucho Mr Ketchum. It was a pleasure to have worked with you....
You are the truest of troubadours, Hal. God, do you know how much I miss you, no you don’t but I do.
Such a wonderful talent, and unmistakable voice that is missed. Rest in peace Hal, and thanks....
The best version of this classic I’ve ever heard. The vocals and harmony, the tempo, the arrangement, the vibe… everything is perfection.
I am so sad to hear of Hal's passing. One of the best vocalists in country music.
I have a Mary, but I'm hangin' on tight to her. Such a sad song.
Helped me thru many a teary night. Thank you Hal. "Hold my own on the darkside of this town, yes Im tough as nails got a heart of steel" RIP Hal
Omgoodness… I heard his song today and forgot how much I loved his music.. thank you for such a beautiful legacy Hal….❤ rest in paradise my friend 🕊️🌹
one word "remarkable" R.I.P big man
Beautiful voice. I had the honor and pleasure of enjoying the gifted Hal Ketchum, along with sweet Kenny Grimes, perform multiple times the last couple of years here in Texas. Such a loss, his music will live on.
Holly Kauitzsch ... I was fortunate, caught Hal & Kenny in Pasadena CA about two years ago ... RIP Brother 🙏🏻
My world REALLY misses this master poet right here. I met Hal in 1993 and it changed my life forever.

I don't think he had a bad song . A fantastic catalogue he leaves behind another country legend gone .
We saw Hal in Big Bear Lake, California shortly before he quit touring. He is a seriously underrated singer and songwriter. He is irreplaceable in country music.

If anyone wondered what a vocalist who paints while singing looks like...this is him.
Hal Ketchum is amazing, I found him on UA-cam popped on a playlist about a year ago. I would of love to have gone to watch him live!
Rest in Peace- his voice was as strong as when I first heard it 30 years ago- very unique
Voice of an angel, gift to the world. You’ve earned your rest, beautiful man.
Saw him in Chicago in Grant Park and when he started playing this, he saw my reaction to the first notes, and he smiled at me. He just seemed so content to share his music and what an authentic talent it was. Bless you Hal.
Him singing it as an older man gives this song an even more powerful delivery. RIP Hal.
Listening to Hal on UA-cam since about 5:00 when I heard of Hal's passing. I'm so sad, but sure that he is in a better place. Rest in Peace, poet. You will surely be missed.

Loved his video “Small Town Saturday Night”, with the 1938 western movie “The Terror of Tiny Town” playing on the screen in the background!
I'm so sad. I loved his originals and his arrangements of cover songs. I was so lucky to meet him backstage during the previous millennium at The Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. I cry every time I hear this song. I can't be the only one.
I so love this with all of my heart and I loved this singer/songwriter more than you will ever know. RIP, Brother.
When I worked at the bars my boyfriend would play Hal on the jukebox for me from far away. He knew I loved his music. ♥️
Heaven has another heavenly voice.
He stayed true to himself, that's all you can ask for in a true artist, and he was without a doubt, that.
Holy cow, he still sounds the same. What a great talent that will be truly missed by the selected few of us with real taste.
