Merry Christmas & happiest of holidays sweet friends! I wish this video could have been up 2 weeks ago but I’ve been recovering from getting sick back to back in November and December. I still hope you enjoy this little bit of Christmas magic (and feel free to laugh for my spin on Iris’s opening monologue in the Holiday. If you know you know 😄)
I'm Catholic, and for us, Advent (a period of waiting) ends tonight, and Christmas season begins! It very much aligns with the 12 days of Christmas you're speaking about here.
12 days of Christmas would actually correspond to the Catholic season of Christmas, ending on the second Sunday of January! Advent is the period of four weeks leading up to Christmas :)
I'm Catholic as well, I follow the Traditional Catholic Liturgical Year in which Christmas starts at the Midnight Mass December 25th and actually ends on the feast of Candlemas on February 2nd!!
Desi, you’re so right! That feeling of childhood nostalgia at Christmas is hard to recreate, but still important to honour ❤ I also really enjoyed that you remind us we can reuse what we do have to celebrate. Almost all of our holiday decor has been gifted to us over the years. We don’t actively purchase more and prefer to remember the sentimental memories behind what we are blessed with. Our home isn’t about keeping up with the Jones’, but a true reflection of us and who we are. Always be yourself, Desi! You bring everyone so much joy 😊 Merry Christmas to you & yours, God bless 🎄🙏
I love that so much ♥️ I love walking in a home during Christmas and immediately knowing someone better because of the well loved items seen around the house. They hold such stories and sentimental value ♥️
I always feel so down after Christmas is over. It's like you said, there's such a build up to the big day and then suddenly its over. Your video was so lovely and sweet, it really helped me to keep that Christmas feeling alive a little longer.
The Orthodox Christians have recently begun the Nativity Fast in preparation for the Nativity of our Lord! I love seeing how everyone celebrates Christmas. Our Christmas celebrations also last until Theophany, the celebration of Christ's baptism, in early January. Blessings to anyone who reads this
Dear Desi, I am far away from my family for Christmas and was feeling low. I watched your video and remembered that Christmas is how you feel inside and you can make it magical. I made some cocoa, snuggled up with my kitty under a heated blanket and watched a Christmas movie. The magic was there all along. Thank you Desi for always reminding us about making every moment in life beautiful and memorable. I adore your videos. Merry Christmas.🎄 Love, your friend Anne
You two are so sweet and it warmed my heart seeing you both together being christmasy. I always find your videos a perfect time out from the daily grind. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday 🎄💚
I love the fact that you don’t apologize for things that aren’t your fault. From one chronically sick person to another, it is ALWAYS the right time for a Merry Christmas!
I am a 50+ atheist, originally from Mexico. Yet, I connect with you, and your love for life, literature and crafting. You are a shinning light, my dear. Thank you.
In Norway (and the rest of Scandinavia, I think) it's common to celebrate Christmas from Christmas Eve at least until New Years Eve. We call this period "romjul". We often have time off from work, eat Christmas treats and have lavish Christmas dinners throughout this time with family and friends. It's a time for relaxation and fun with the people you love, as it is an actual holiday for many. There is like an unwritten "rule" to take down the decorations and the tree on January 6th, which concludes the 12 days of Christmas. Love your videos, Desi! Enjoy the rest of the 12 days of Christmas. ❤
Happy holidays, Desi & Jared! Here in Greece, we celebrate the 12 days of Christmas too (98% of the population is Orthodox). The tradition says to keep the fire lit for 12 days and to use the ashes for fertilize the plants. The period ends at Lights day (January 6th) when the sea becomes holy (we are an island country). At that day, priests throw the Holy Cross in the sea and young children dive to fetch it. Have a happy holiday!
European living in the US! For me Christmas ends on January 6 and it will always be that way, no matter where I am in the world. Merry Christmas Desi & everyone ❤🎄✨
Merry Christmas Desi and Jared! In Norway the week after Christmas is still heavily celebrated, either with family dinners or just leftovers and lots of sweets :D I'm currently reading Snowed In as you recommended it in a previous video and I am loving it a lot!
I’m so sick right now and having this cozy video is making me feel so much better. I’ll extend my Christmas to the full 12 days too! That way I can enjoy it more as I get better 😭🥰🎄 Your fireplace setup is to die for. And I loooooved that song you played over the Christmas tree lot clips, it was so nostalgic
Same!!! I"m also so sick, but this inspired me to do the 12 days of Christmas! That way, I don't have to miss out and can still enjoy some future days 😊
This video is so visually stunning and feels absolutely magical from start to finish. As a retail worker, I’ve been feeling burnt out and anxious for the holiday season to be over, but this video has brought me so much joy and comfort. It’s really restored my Christmas spirit! I know you worked super hard on this one, and I want you to know that your hard work absolutely paid off. I hope you and Jared have the most wonderful Christmas❤️
Yay! I loved watching this today. Merry Christmas everyone! Desi, I love to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas. I remember when I was younger, I used to feel so sad after Christmas Day was over, and so stressed in the days leading up to it. Now I know that I will get to slowly enjoy watching Christmas films and reading Christmas books, listening to carols, and making special food and crafts, for 11 days after. It is so lovely, restful, and enjoyable. ❤ Thank you for this sweet, inspiring video!
It's a shame for Christmas to end on December 25th, you don't even have time to really get in the christmas spirit because it's already over! In Italy the festivities end on January 6th, Epiphany day, when an old witch called Befana brings sweets to children on her broom, so I guess it's something quite similar to 12 days of Christmas in the USA. It's a nice way to hold on to that magic feeling. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
I am so happy for this video!!! I was starting to feel so sad because I felt like I missed out on Christmas, but it really just started! Thank you for the reminder!
It really did! I was sick for such a long time and hardly did anything leading up to Christmas. But the celebration really just started! The next 12 days we have plans to watch christmas movies, bake christmas cookies, look at Christmas lights, try different hot cocoa recipes, read holiday books and more! 🎄 Christmas festivities have just begun!
@@DarlingDesi That sounds absolutely wonderful! It already feels like Christmas is over but I don't want it to be! You teaching me that there are other forgotten Christmas traditions that bring it into the new year has been the perfect gift for me. Though it's hard to celebrate when it feels like everyone around me is already done with it. Oh well, perhaps I will inform my family about 12 days of Christmas next year. I'll just keep the spirit bright for now for everyone else. Thank you for all you do.
I’ve been in such a good mood all month and I attribute that to romanticizing Christmas everyday, watching this while a do a quick workout before the festivities! I go all out with the decor, my theme is mid century with a little bit of 80s seeping in, definitely one of my favorite Christmas activities is thrifting for authentic retro Christmas decor, highly recommend the thrift stores! It’s a blast! merry Christmas!!!! 🎄 ❤️
That's not a UA-cam Video, this is a hole movie and a piece of art. Actually watching this after Christmas being sad that it's already over and now the joy of Christmas just came back. Thank you so much Desi, I love it ❤
Hi. I am from Puerto Rico and although we don't celebrate 12 days of Christmas, our Celebrations dont end until the end of January and some people wait until a celebration at the beginning of February... long holidays here, amazing food and lots of fun.
Merry Christmas, and thank you for the video, was so happy to see a Christmas Eve posting! As for the 12 Days of Christmas, it's not entirely forgotten in the US. In the Catholic Church, the evening of Dec. 24 is just the kick-off to the Christmas season, which not only goes until the beautiful feast of Epiphany, (Jan. 6, the culmination of the "12 Days)", but even a little bit beyond! My Christmas tree and decor (which admittedly I tend to be late getting up) doesn't come down before Jan. 13th.
I grew up in a family where one parent celebrated Christmas in December and other parent celebrated an orthodox Christmas so honestly it was magical to have all December and first part of January a Christmas tree presents and festive vibes so i had a loooot of presents from both sides of the family ❤️🩹 such a great memories
The intro to this video straight up made me sob ❤ the opening to The Holiday has meant so much to me for more than a decade now. It's my favorite movie and your adaptation of the first montage from it has held my heart so close this season ❄️ thank you 💕
This was truly a Darling Desi Christmas special!! 🎄😍What an adorable and cozy video. I wasn't able to truly celebrate Christmas this year, so I had been feeling a little sad and out of the Christmas spirit; but watching you and Jared (and D'Artagnan and the cats, of course!) spend a lovely holiday season together full of special traditions, laughter and joy, brought a smile to my face and has inspired me hopefully for next Christmas. Thank you so much for everything you do, it means more than you will ever know. Merry Christmas! 🎄✨
As Catholics we celebrate the 12 days of Christmas, so our grandchildren will remember time with us and one day spend it with their families and hopefully think of my wife and I.
I needed this video so much today. I’m laying in bed at moms house recovering from gall bladder surgery and feeling really down because I wasn’t able to get things done that I wanted to before Christmas. Thinking about the 12 days of Christmas helps a lot. I still have some time off work to recover so when I am feeling better there will still be lots of time for baking and decorating and time with family and friends.... thank you for the beautiful video and the message, it helps so much! My warmest Yule wishes to yourself and Jared. ❤
Merry Christmas Desi! I hope that you have the merriest of Christmases as well! I am a Christian so we celebrate Christmas because of the birth of Christ but I still love how you celebrate Christmas too!
Thank you so much for all your hard work, Desi. You have brought a little bit of magic to a challenging year for me. Wishing you, Jared and the rest of your family a wonderful festive season.
This video is so healing 💜. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the work you do making these videos! It's very apparent that it takes so much time and care to film and edit all these beautiful shots. THANK YOU!
I've been heart breaking struggles getting my own home for years now, it's a long story but your videos give me inspiration for things I want to do in my own home someday and also motivation to not give up on my own home.
I just stumbled onto this channel and did a big fat binge of Desi's content, and it's so dreamy. Her Christmas content is what I like the most followed by her autumn/fall videos. I have a boyfriend right now and he is the one that I'm sure to marry, and watching Desi and Jared having these beautiful and lovely moments during the holidays are just so magical to see. I dreamed of having this kind of life with the loml ever since I was a kid and I kow have it with my loving boyfriend. Thank you for the magic, Darling Desi!
It is the day after Christmas that I could sit and enjoy your video. Just absolutely perfect from beginning to end. Such beauty, atmosphere; the joy you both have to celebrating Christmas makes me so happy.
I'm watching this at the beginning of September... after the summer holidays it's time to slowly, slowly prepare for autumn and Christmas. Your enthusiasm made me smile!
In Ireland the last day of Christmas 6th January, is known as Nollaig na Mban, Irish for Womens Christmas. Thank you so much for this festive treat. SLAINTE !!! (Good Health)
This was a perfect Christmas Eve gift to wake up to! I absolutely loved it! Thank you for making this beautiful video! I hope you are feeling much better now! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this video, Desi. I have been so sick this year, so I havent been able to celebrate christmas at all. I love christmas more than any other time of year, and living in Norway I have lots and lots of advent traditions. I havent been able to do anything this year. It breaks my heart. I hope to live another christmas where I can bake, decorate and enjoy everything to the fullest. And watch this video again and again. ❤🔥
The napkins are Tartan. Tartan is used here in Scotland in kilts and denotes which Clan you are from. Loved this video, you and Jared are so fun. Love the excitement you both have for decorating the house. Myself and my parents took up the Icelandic book exchange idea 6 Christmas Eves ago and love it. Makes Christmas Eve so relaxing.
I’ve been through many decorating phases but I usually have the same decorations but I take them apart, paint them etc so they are different every year. My actual style is part medieval British Christmas and part Victorian. And snow is magical to me. I could never go somewhere hot for Christmas.
That brought little tears to my eyes thank you, feeling very loved!! Can't wait to see what you have in store for Christmas and ofc what you'll be reading!!!!! ❄️
Watching you doing all of this with your husband is so precious. I sadly can’t get any of my family members to help decorate or participate in any type of traditions.😢 I have a husband and 5 kid and none of them can care less. And I am hugely into the magic of Christmas. I put up 13 trees throughout my home listen to the carols watch the movies do the shopping wrap the presents and stuff stockings all by myself. And after I’ve stuffed everyone’s stockings I toss the leftovers into my stocking. Oh great now I’m crying! What have I done? Your videos are truly beautiful and I dream of sharing just simple traditions like this but after 15 years of trying I sadly think it will continue to just be me alone. Despite have a big beautiful family .
Desi Im watching this again and your husband is really the best for you I swear to got from what we see he’s such a good match for you! Peace be with you both and I’ll be excited for the next Christmas video!
I'm so glad you like the ornament!! Thank you so much! Your videos are always so cozy and sweet!! Also those little house mugs?? Cutest mugs ever omg. Hope you have the happiest of holidays!!🎄✨️❤️
I had The Legened of Holly Claus book when I was a child. It was published in 2004. I was pleasantly surprised to see it here. It took me back to old childhood Christmas memories ❤
Hope you are feeling better. Loved the video. I agree with Dickens quote. To celebrate all year. Right after Christmas is an important part of the holidays. Tonight after opening presents and eating leftovers I came home and slowly started working on gifts for a friend in Chicago. I know it would be late so I can enjoy sewing mug rugs slowly. I haven’t watched Hallmark movies so I enjoy this. I am catching up on Christmas UA-cams. I will bake this week and stay in the moment. Thank you for sharing
Whoo hoo! A Christmas video on Christmas Eve! Thank you for sharing your magick! Merry Christmas to you Desi, and Jared and your furry family members. ❄️😘🎁🎄
Thank you so so much for that intro 🤍❄️ you’ve perfectly captured the essence of why I love this season so so much and I love delving into the ancient history of this magical season
Fellow Rhode Island-er here. Can confirm groundswell is top 5 best bakeries in Rhode Island ♥️ loved seeing you go there. Merry Christmas Desi and Happy New Year
Always enjoy watching your videos, especially the Fall and Christmas ones! I’m old enough to be your grandma but I’m still young at heart! 😂 Been following you for several years. You have so much joy in your heart! Your holiday videos are loved and I look forward to watching as much as my old vintage Christmas movies. Merry Christmas to you and Jared! 🎄🤶 🎅 ❤ ⛄️ I have the same vintage Victorian pictures! ❤
I'm watching a lot of your Christmas videos to help get in the Christmas spirit. :) I think it's cool that some people still celebrate the full 12 days of Christmas. My parents are Catholic and they leave their decorations up until Epiphany on January 6. Sometimes the Church even throws an Epiphany party with lots of food and paper crowns for the kiddos.
I love your hubby singing along to the Christmas songs. Too many men have a bah, humbug attitude to Christmas. Luckily my brothers were all raised to love the holidays
Merry Christmas Desi &Jared. Always a warm welcome like catching up with dear friends. Thank you for videos, festive ideas, merch, book recommendations storys and your laughter. Cheers and all the best for many years.
desi, thank you from the bottom of my heart 🫶🏼 i'm a senior in high school, so this december has been especially stressful. i've been having a hard time letting go of the stress of school and getting in the christmas spirit, but your video has done it. this video has made me finally feel like christmas 🎄✨ on this christmas eve night, i made myself a cup of hot cocoa in my christmas mug ☕️ i stuck a candy cane in it, which melted and made the cocoa taste extra christmasy! i'm cuddled up in my coziest blanket and it's raining outside. this has been a perfect night! thank you desi, you truly are a kindred spirit! ❤
I am from Bavaria and maybe I don‘t understand everything you are saying, but I really love your lovely decoration and book videos. In the moment I am reading my first christmas book of Jenny Colgan! 😃📖🎄
Got up way early to wrap presents on this festive day. What a wonderful way to start the holiday by viewing your vlog. So heartfelt and joyous. Have super, super Christmas, and look forward to being a part of your community in the new year. Thank you for all the sharing you and your hubby do!
Such a lovely choice of music. Last year you got popcorn as a gift. I made a note in my diary to give some as presents this year, so thanks for the idea. Have a wonderful, magical time and thank you for all the lovely videos. x

Thank you!! 🥹🫶🏻♥️
Merry Christmas🎄✨Maťa from Slovakia 🇸🇰 Thank you 💖👋😊
It is the day after Christmas that I could sit and enjoy your video.
I loved this video so much! We celebrate the twelve days of Christmas, I love how it makes Christmas last longer.
It's Tartan! Though I don't know which Clan, if any. It looks like it's an imaginary one. Joyeux Noël from France!
So relatable…German lineage here too. Love everything you’ve chosen and done.
Wonderful video!! Merry Christmas from Germany everyone! Have the merriest, whimsical and most wonderful Holidays🕯️🌟🎄🧡
What a great Christmas gift! Thank you so much for this treat! Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Desi! 🎄❤️🥰
Thank you so much!! Happy holidays!! ♥️🫶🏻🎄🥰
Desi, you are amazingly talented! Your videos are so beautiful and bring so much joy. Thank you for being a blessing to so many. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so incredibly much 🫶🏻♥️ Merry Christmas!!
That brought little tears to my eyes thank you, feeling very loved!! Can't wait to see what you have in store for Christmas and ofc what you'll be reading!!!!! ❄️
Watching this after Christmas Day and it makes me so happy ❤
Desi and Jared spoil us with an amazing video! Merry Christmas to you two and your fur babies!
Thank you so much for this video Desi, I hope you had a lovely Christmas !
Out of all the UA-camrs, you have like the best Christmas videos ever. Almost like a warm hug.
First one on the video! Desi your videos bring me so much joy! Thank you for all that you do! You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs
Merry Christmas Desi and Happy New Year
Watching this almost a year later and finding it so joyful and sweet. Thanks🎄
What a perfect way to celebrate Christmas Eve! I love the idea of doing the book exchange on the winter solstice!!
I’ve had those exact heart ornaments since I was a child as well! I still hang them on my tree
The perfect Christmas gift 🎁 thank you for sharing your holiday traditions and may you and Jared have a wonderful Christmas 🎄
Many more happy returns💝🥰
I'm watching a lot of your Christmas videos to help get in the Christmas spirit. :) I think it's cool that some people still celebrate the full 12 days of Christmas. My parents are Catholic and they leave their decorations up until Epiphany on January 6. Sometimes the Church even throws an Epiphany party with lots of food and paper crowns for the kiddos.
So glad that you are thinking of your fur babies when it comes to the tree and safety! You are awesome!
I love your hubby singing along to the Christmas songs. Too many men have a bah, humbug attitude to Christmas. Luckily my brothers were all raised to love the holidays
Perfect Christmas Eve present!! 🎁 I hope you both have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the 12 days of Christmas 🎄
Have a wonderful, magical time and thank you for all the lovely videos. x
