I have a question about it, what's the use of the salad bowl on top of the plate? Do you separate them before filling or do you just not put anything on the plate? Does it depend on the meal?
usually salad is first, so you eat that with the plate being still under the bowl. then you can either remove the bowl from the table or set it aside and eat off the plate.
I have a woven doormat as a large placemat on our dining room table, but it works!
