This version „live in Carre“ is the best. First from intrumental side, then Luke‘s voice and in the chorus you hear all individual voices in harmony. Luke‘s, Ronnie‘s, Barney‘s and new, Sean‘s. They fit so well together.
Luke's voice wasn't what it had been by the time of this recording, which was one of his last, due to his poor health. I doubt that many would agree with you about this being the best.
I believe this is his last recorded song. His rendition of “the night visiting song” was his last filed song but this was the last one he sung for us all
Although @TheNightVisitor writes in the description that it's sad to HEAR Luke Kelly like this, I think Mr. Kelly did quite well. Sure, he might've been ill, but he sounded strong. He didn't sound any worse than anyone else whose voice has been affected by intense performing for many years.
This is certainly not Luke's last concert. His last concert was in October 1983 in Mannheim, Germany. He collapsed on stage, was rushed to Heidelberg hospital and later flown back to Dublin, where he died in January 1984. This is probably the last released recording.
@@dubliner85 Thanks. I always loved the Carre recording, sad to hear weakness in Luke's voice but glad to have such a high quality recording of (almost) a full concert with a few rare songs and tunes. I live in the Mannheim/Heidelberg region and have met many people who were at Luke's final performance and told me about it.
@@djcyber995 What do you mean? Luke had a brain tumor. The details are in his biography. I read it. There's a documentary online where his last partner and the other Dubliners and friends recount the details.
+dubliner85 are you sure that the banjo player in the photo is luke kelly? Yeah, the shape of his eyes and eyebrows is similar to luke kelly's but nothing else
Yes, that was Luke‘s last concert in Amsterdam. Sean Cannon was already in the line up to step in for the future. The complete concert is available as „Dubliners, live in Carré“.
Luke Kelly and the Dubliners are unforgetttable. They are the Irish legend. 😗💖🇮🇪☘☘☘
Luke, how I miss your speak before a singing, your smile and, o, God, your voice! You will never forget! You are loved!
my God this man was talented. Genius level of talent. he is sorely missed.
IT MAKES ME SAD TO SEE LUKE THAT, SICK. WHAT A SAD PICTURE! BUT HIS IMPOSING, AND UNFORGETTTABLE VOICE FILLS OUR HEARTS WITH EXHIILARATING JOY!
Inspiring not sad..... think how lucky we are to live in the same times.

Fair enough. It is his last recorded concert though, so made a small change to the title.

Then how come you don't recognize him?
Anyway, please let's talk about his great music again...
Jees poor Luke looks awful in this picture. Definitely in his last few years when he was very ill. God bless his soul

That's because it isn't Luke. I think it must be 'The Forgotten Dubliner' Bobby Lynch.
James Lee bobby lynch didnt play banjo, its Luke in his final years when his health was in a dire state

No that's Luke.

Bobby Lynch was already dead at that time, if I remember right.
The guy in the picture IS Luke.
Luke looks like Herman Munster with a beard in this pic.
