did u study ceramics in college i’m thinking of doing pottery professionally and i’m looking for what to do after high school
I didnt focus primarily on ceramics in college. I did take the basics and a few advanced courses for my arts degree, but everyone is different. You may prefer a class setting to be the best way to learn or joining an open studio and getting guidance with a little more free will.
For me, classes were nice for the basics of learning ceramics and then just practice practice practice. Just having a wheel and access to a kiln was what I needed. When I moved to Georgia, I found a residency program at a local studio where my mentors taught me how to run a business and grow as an artist. I did that for about 6 years and I learned so much more from that than I did in college. I know that there are a lot of business coaches out there these days, that could also be helpful in learning/understanding the business side.
It's really up to how you want to learn and where and how you want to invest your energy. Running your own business means spending half the time on the business side and the rest on actually making. It can be tough at times!
