tough. smart. athletic. had a game- he was a legitimate problem. good to see him get his flowers because he was criminally underrated. ill take the x-man mark price mahmoud abdur- rahim and sheed and on my 90s NBA all underrated team..
@@3243_ The Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Dave DeBusschere, Phil Jackson Knicks team catches my attention from back then. Pistol Pete, Dr. J, and Moses Malone were great too.
Till this day I didn't understand why the Knicks allow the X to leave after 1 yr ☹️ one of many disappointing moments as a Knick fan. A perfect fit that would have dethroned the mighty Mike's team if the Knicks management was patient.
He's a little loose on the screws. Remember when he pushed Ewing because of a call? That's Ewing and his knicks. That's like pushing MJ around in Chicago. So he had to go. Wilkins was a good role player too that they gave up.
X-man was a all around Forward with his savvy midpost game and efficient midrange shooting touch he was a match up Problem. Especially with his toughness on the Glass (rebounds) he was a true enforcer through out his career.
That's a lie u pampering. Scottie was hurt that series. Give X credit for making him work also having Big Pat and Oak in back side. Aid them along with the league allowing the Knicks to play illegal defense. 1993 series X played Pip well despite Scottie being injured ankle wrist + back injury
@kirkleach he wasn't fading. He averaged 13.7 points off of 48% shooting . He averaged around 12 shots per game, which was his lowest average shot attempts per game in his career at that point. Also, keep in mind he was an excellent defender and brought toughness to that team. I believe had they been able to get by the Bulls in game 7 of the semis, that team would have won the championship.
@kirkleach when he was doing that he was the star player om those Seattle Supersonic teams and played more minutes. You can't compare that to him being on teams where he was the 3rd, 4th, or 5th option.
If Xavier McDaniel had remained on the knicks for 93-94 season I'm sure they would've been able to beat the rockets in that finals had he been there... we'll never know.
That pre-GP Sonics team was something else. Chambers, X, and Dale Ellis? Scoring for days, not much D. As a mid-80's on Basketball geek, there are teams that have become legendary in retrospect for certain styles of play or the what-ifs, etc. Most of the teams I would classify on my list are there for some "glimpse into the future" type of play style, whether positional adaptability, unselfishness, et.al. Teams like the Don Nelson Bucks with the use of Paul Pressey as Point Foward, with Moncrief as a defender/finisher and Sikma and Terry Cummings as "Stretch" bigs or The RUN T.M.C. Warriors who would sometimes run the offense through Tom Fuckin' Tolbert from the high post and run post-ups for a 5'11" point guard or the We Believe Warriors with their positional size and switchability OR EVEN SOME TEAMS NELLIE DIDN'T COACH! Like the Hornets with Divac and Mason or the Kings that battled the Lakers who were objectively great and not really a "cult favorite" but those who love the game obviously appreciate that team, there are others for sure but that's beside the point here. Out of all of those "geek teams" I mentioned The Chambers,Ellis, X-Man Sonics were aggressively antithetical to the aforementioned teams and criteria I have laid out for my other teams, they had three HIGH usage players usually accompanied by two non scorers like O.P. and McMillan and Ellis and Chambers were charitably net neutral defenders but they were fun and maddening at the same time. X has long been a personal favorite of mine.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I have my SONICS 9 ELLIS and CELTICS 31 Javier McDaniel jerseys!
I came for the turn around step back. He made Scottie Pippen look silly a bunch. Those were some awesome glory years of the NBA. Physical team basketball with skilled big men that stayed in the post. The 3 point shot was not the center of the game.
I remember when he and Tyrone Corbin were at AC Flora high school, what a team. Was hoping they'd both become Gamecocks, but alas DePaul and Wichita State won out.
Holy shit, that is a team, you could have no one else on the floor with them and they'd still prolly win most games. DePaul had a bunch of great players in the 80's, besides Corbin, they also had Rod Strickland and Terry Cummings, and all three were there within like seven or 8 year period or somethin. My uncle was there the same time Cummings was.
Absolutely! They also had 3 other players who earned D1 Basketball Scholarships on the same team! The year they won the 3 AAA State Championship in 1981 they beat us (Eau Claire)in the regular season I knew that they were a really great team . We were 4 AAAA!
It’s crazy because this mid post work would kill in today’s game but apparently this isn’t skill… dropping the ball to your 3rd or fourth option and they getting a bucket
tough. smart. athletic. had a game- he was a legitimate problem. good to see him get his flowers because he was criminally underrated. ill take the x-man mark price mahmoud abdur- rahim and sheed and on my 90s NBA all underrated team..
That's a damn good list
They don't make players like x-man anymore.. These guys today alot of them wouldn't survive that era of bball!!
I only know mahmoud abdoul rauf and shareef abdoul raheem who you mean?
Xavier was a Offensive Minded Dennis Rodman!
Haha...that's a good way to put it.😄
The X-Man was a Beast back in the day.
Xmas was underrated player great scorer and rebounder . I wish they bring basketball back to Seattle
Seattle is where the Oklahoma City Thunder belong.
their best years were 78 79 80 87 93 and 96
As a lifetime Sonics fan I appreciate you.
This was when the NBA was worth watching. The 80's and 90's ROCKED!
The decade of the '70s was cool too.
Today s nba....horrible

Coz they got Charles Smith? 🤣🤣🤣

when did he push patrick ewing
after multiple trades the knicks went far in 93 and 94 and just like their 86 87 88 89 90 91 and 92 teams they were led by patrick ewing
The skills were crazy back then. Damn. Decisive, assertive, right to the point, he is a bucket in any era.
tough as old school vending machines. never a dull moment when he's all fired up. his mini step back down low was lethal
I'll always remember him for being on an episode of Married With Children .
😢
Yup!
Wow I never knew how much of a beast he was😮
The X Man!!

I loved the X-man
Definitely one of my faves growing up
Xavier " This is a man s game " Mc Daniel 🏀🏀🏀
wow...very powerful offensive rebound...I'm surprised....and great foot work!
X had not for that knee injury, could've been up their with the likes of the GREATS!! Peace
I'll tell you he was owning Scottie wasn't he Scottie couldn't guard him

I've noticed Xman would always play extra offensive aggressive when he saw pippen guarding him . From His days in Seattle, with the Suns ,Knicks .
X has lots of fight footage in the association also... just ask Charles Oakley...
Xman same Spirit same strong 💪🔥💪
Xavier McDaniel is one of my top 3 favorite players of all-time. When he went to the Knicks, I don't understand why they didn't bring him back.

@kirkleach that's not true. He was only there for the 1991-1992 season, and he played well that season.

X-Man is a versatile scorer who could hurt his defenders in the paint
Indeed. He was a skilled enforcer
He Killin Pippen.
X-man was a god in Seattle in the 80's

será temporada 1994 donde ellos si pudieron con los bulls pero sin Michael Jordan
He is smaller than you would think, but plays like a big man. Kind of like Barkley
I named my son after this guy

Javier McDaniel!!
Kemp, X Man and Ellis
@5:30 Is that Tommy Heinsohn as the color commentator for the Lakers v Sonics game??? Kinda strange if that is actually him.

The Xman was good
Quick question if xman was so good why was he traded so much and so often!?
He was awesome. This video makes me want to hijack my own car.

wtf does this mean? Are you saying that Pippen is on the same level as Kobe?😂
McDaniel sucked.
