Manufacturers are finally getting it. Folks that want to downsize aren't always 20 something. Empty nesters aren't going to want to climb a ladder to get to their sleeping arrangement. Let-a-lone climb down a ladder in the middle of the night pee.LOL

1timby Well I think something like these tiny homes for kids in their 20s.would be better for them then apartment cause in along run if they want more space in the future they can always sell it unlike apartment you have to deal with rent and terrible landlords and neighbors been loud and rude and deal with kids so tiny homes like this be good for 20 yrs old kids..

Where have you been? I live in Florida, THE retirement destination for the States. We have older people living in RV's, Camper Trailers, Single-Wides, Double-Wides, Small Homes, Massive Homes. It's usually a combination of income and comfort. Plenty start coming down in an RV and eventually decide they don't want to leave, realize they were content in an RV, and sell their house and live in an RV. I guess it's not a thing elsewhere, but here you can "camp" year-round in trailer parks in RV/Camper Trailer/Tiny House, etc... It's just got to be registered.

Just a couple of thoughts: the shallow depth counters and cabinets are not a bad idea for older folks. It gets more difficult with age to reach and bend or get down low to pull things from the depths of deeper cabinets - so to my mind they're not a disadvantage. Room could be freed up in the kitchen using either a 24" wide stove or European sized appliances. Years ago I had a house with a tiny kitchen and opted for a 24" range and it was fine, I was able to cook as always for my family of 5. Plus, most seniors are cooking for one or two, they don't need a huge stove dominating the kitchen. I would rather have a smaller stove and have room for a dishwasher. A lot of my friends in their 70's, after decades of cooking for a family every day, have no desire to cook anymore at all. A huge kitchen is not a big deal to them. At different stages of life you have to adapt your mindset. What you need with a growing family is different than what you need when it's is just one or two people. As for big get togethers - that's what potlucks were invented for! But have to agree it's more of a repackaging single wide mobile homes than what is considered a "true" tiny home. Not bad, just don't try to make it something it's not and try to fool people.

To me, this feels like a one bedroom single wide mobile home that's been re-branded for today's market. It has that mobile home feel to it (the cabinetry, layout). I lived in one for about 6 mos years ago (I'm old) and the mobile home we were in was old...but it has that feel.
As soon as i saw those narrow counters, i thought coffee/tea station. We definitely did not have that back in the day (mind you, we DID have harvest gold appliances...some trends can stay dead)

It's mostly the synthetic materials that give it a mobile home feel I think: fake wood veneer, fake granite countertops, fake stone floors, fake ceramic bathroom fixtures (molded plastic). God knows how the construction was done, which materials were used. Probably very cheap, no built-in insulation.

Shower needs a seat and bathroom won't accommodate a wheel chair. Also 86 that mirrored closet door in the master bedroom. Older people are often unsteady on their feet and falling into the mirrored door or trying to catch it to keep from falling would lead to a disaster THINK people. Otherwise, assuming that it is properly insulated, it looks very nice.

I agree - these are not accessible. Narrow doorways, high counters and storage. To the other commenter - mobility disability is generally overlooked in tiny house plans. This home is no more accessible than many other tiny homes. Yes there are other disabilities, many of which ARE accommodated by the average tiny home. I think the first house was set up for a couple, while the second house would probably be better for a single. I can do without a dishwasher, as I think that a double sink is a luxury. And as for the windows, closing the curtains or lowering the blinds during the sunny part of the day can lower the temperature. All the drawer space is lovely.

For 1 the above cabinets are rediculas for senior's. They can't/won't use them. And not all sinors live alone, they have people that live with them for some can't do for themselves such as, driving= blindness, or shopping. So try to remember that the floor (down) can be lowered so that a full size br can be made above another for that purpose. Just an idea for you to ponder. 😊❤ And all pipes need to be on the inner walls to prevent freezing/bursting pipes.

With all due respect, the days of windows needing to be eliminated in order for a house to stay cool are over. There are all types of windows and a variety of window treatments. There are window shades that provide some privacy (you can see out, your neighbors can’t see in), and they reduce the amount of heat that can come in.
There’s nothing wrong with you and your family touring tiny homes and sharing your observations . You aren’t holding yourself out as an expert (like Bryce). So take my comment just as my opinion, nothing more.
And hats off to you for including your kids and not telling them to go play video games in the car. If they want to give some feedback, perhaps they could wait until you pause, and let them know they can talk,
Keep viewing all kinds of small and tiny house ideas for all sizes of budgets. You have viewers from DIY people to widows who need a home that’s ready to go and easy to use.

We are a disabled couple looking to purchase a tiny home but there are a few things that are on our MUST have list. #1 bedroom must be large enough for a long size bed. #2 A very functional kitchen that can accommodate four bar stools at counter instead of a kitchen table. #3 must be 1 level, can not climb ladders to get to our bedroom. #4 since we are disabled my dream is to have a step in tub with all the bells and whistles . I would also like it to be large enough so that we could take a shower in it if not wanting to take a long relaxing bath . I know for a fact if I had one of those I would be in it once or twice a day . the massaging feature of the water jets with the something that could help us very much with our and ailments. I wouldn't mind to have have some loft so the grandkids can sleep over and we wouldn't want them to sleep on a sofa bed in our TV room. the first home with the high ceilings is wonderful but believe it or not we do not like a lot of windows. in that sitting area you have 6 windows three large on bottom three small on top. if I was two have this one made for us I would not want the windows that are on the bottom because that is where we would put our large television. I am sure that all of these things can be done it's just a matter of cost. we are not looking for something immediately but definitely within the next two years. we live in the Charleston area of South Carolina and I so wish that you had a showroom and a salesperson who could help us build our dream retirement home.
oddly enough we are not fans of a lot of windows. windows or doors that would give a lovely cross-breeze would be just fine but we do not like so many windows that we have no option for hanging photos candles or shelves on our walls. a lovely French door on one side end two large casement windows on the other in the living area would be perfect and quite enough windows for us. same in the bedroom. we like our bedroom dark. I know that my having a large amount of Windows in especially a tiny home makes it look larger but we just want a cozy place to be able to live the rest of our lives in. any info or input you can send to me would be greatly appreciated. you could either comment here or please send me an actual website where I can see all of the options that are available.

You brought up several valid concerns while touring this tiny house; how much will it cost to heat/cool the place, will having too many windows cause it to get too hot/cold, and is the air quality good. I've been researching tiny houses for a long time now and I would never buy/build one without using passive house principles for it. (The earthship house you toured in an earlier video is a good example of a passive house.)
A well designed passive house will be comfortable to live in, non-toxic, and cost you very little to heat/cool. Some things to look for in a tiny house are as follows:
    1) It will be well insulated with proper thermal breaks and have good insulated windows.
    2) Have majority of windows on the south side to provide solar heating in winter; have minimal windows on the east/west/north sides to avoid overheating in summer or getting too cold in the winter. Keep in mind, you'll need to add appropriate shading for all windows since practically all tiny houses don't come with any sort of shading built-in such as eaves or awnings.
    3) East side of the house is the coolest and gets morning sun while the west side of the house is the hottest and darkest in the morning. Kitchens placed on the east side is best since you'll get natural light in the morning to cook breakfast and you won't feel as hot cooking dinner in the evening.
    4) Was it built using non-toxic materials
    5) Does the floorplan promote good airflow
    6) Has outside storage. If placed on the west side, it will act as a buffer against summer heat.

I would say for senior citizens you might want to make the house ADA compliant...meaning wheelchair accessible..the 2nd one was closer to ADA. I agree on the 2nd house, about the set of cupboards and counter outside of kitchen wasn't well thought out...great presentation..we have two girls too! Your girls are precious! Enjoy them while their young...they grow up FAST!! Blessings!!

I've lived from the east coast to the west coast and from the southern borders of Arizona to Idaho and you hit the nail on the head when it comes to houses must fit the region. Getting light into the home is simple if you incorporate VELUX skylights solar operated windows or something like them. It provides light from the top of the home and you can open and close the skylights and covers as needed. I like the first home you displayed in this video, not because I'm a senior and disabled but because it has the satisfying arrangements that will put a smile on the wife. I liked to think I spend more time in the shop, but truth is my wife works so I've got kitchen detail until she retires which should be in the next year, we hope. Depend on the increase on O-Care and medicine costs which are a bigger issue than the design of our home for sure. Be prepared for the horrid expenses coming your way when you get to the "grey-years". Love you and your family the most!

Silly Puppy I agree.. I have the same issue. Except I was injured then got the auto immune disease. People are VERY JUDGMENTAL, & Discriminatory.
The Universal handicap sign being a person in a wheelchair gives people a false perception. That disabled people are ALWAYS in a wheelchair. And when you add youth to a disability it makes it even worse. They don't understand there are a lot of people who have many other disabilities that can make them disabled but not neccessarally in a wheelchair. Discrimination is horrid for younger people simply because of this misconception. I wish they would change the universal disabled sign to something that still tells people your disabled WITHOUT making it appear disability means ONLY wheelchair. Just my .02 cents.

Silly Puppy Just to clarify I'm actually a woman. Not an Aidan. lol..but no worries. I do agree with the poverty aspect. I can't speak to everywhere because some places are better or worse. But I can say that the Welfare myth is no longer true. *For most peoole* I live in KY where you can only get $225 for 1 Parent& child I believe it goes up only $50-75 per child after. YOU can't raise anything including yourself on that kind of cash. They also stopped taking section 8 applications over a decade ago BECAUSE of the generation your talking about. People who got it & staid on it. The list only moved when someone died. It was & still is ridiculous. But Believe me...I understand where the belief comes from. It just no longer true. Most people on welfare actually work full time jobs now. & have too get it just to help pay child care or transportation. Now ain't that a slap in the face. They say no more welfare your gonna work here's your training people show up some not willing others YAY free training then paid minimum wage food & medical cut off make too much to stay in subsidized housing get kicked out or they have to quit the job & start the game all over. Trust me friend THERE ARE 0 people LIVING on Welfare ANYMORE! They are down in the dirt with the rest of us 90% ers. We are here because of well, in my case something I couldn't control. The same can be said for some of them. But the only thing that matters is 90% of the world's wealth is held by just a few HUNDRED PEOPLE! I'd say they are the ones to be pissed at. All the rest of us fighting for scraps & false propagated (By them) predjuidece against EACH OTHER keeps them very safe & secure that we never pay attention to the man behind the curtain. Just IMO

Saving Aidan Well Wal-Mart has alot of welfare ppl working for them and so does McDonald's and such but what's bad was back in the old days in the 90s.and late 80s.if a mother wants to get a job the welfare would punish her for getting a job they would take food stamps and everything else including her kids cause she is neglectful by getting a job..

It is a mobile home but it is smaller than most and a home is a house...so what is the difference? It is a tiny place to live and an option that a lot of older couples would prefer to a 'tiny house' since there is no loft. I am not married to just one type of house style but am trying to show all the options.

I love love love the first little house. Love all the dimensions in it. You could have white cabinetry and trim throughout to make it look and feel larger. It would also make it feel cooler too in some place like Arizona. I would use the narrow countertops next to the little eating area for my coffee and teapots. That way it would be convenient to the table or bar area. Maybe wine racks or storage.

I've looked at similar homes like these before called park models. I like the ones where they have a loft running half or full length of the house. They have very spacious lofts for kids or grandkids to sleep. I really like the lay-out of these homes. I think the price range is $40,000 - $70,000 depending on loft or no loft. If you buy them new, they usually come furnished and with all the appliances. Love the high ceilings too.

That looks like a 12'x 40' or 12'x 50' and could no be moved by the owner. But you are correct in that the elderly will usually want (or need) a bedroom on the ground floor of their home that is easy to access. It also looks like they trade off a "living room" for the bedroom, and that is fine for someone who is getting on in years and won't be throwing parties all the time. The bathroom would need to be heavily modified for someone with a wheelchair (pitched as handicap accessible). You are also correct in that is it more "plastic" looking like a mobile home (which I guess is what it really is, albeit a shorter one). Still looks comfy enough for me !

Thanks for showing these options. I looked at these 20 yrs ago and bought a house. Wish I'd have bought the Park Model. I let myself get talked out of it by people saying that you have to pay for space rent. Now, I'm finally going to consider a mobile. Problem is that the value of the house has gone down so it's a little harder financially. The cupboards are definitely better than a mobile. I am a senior so thanks for talking about the finishes etc. I could tell you were effected by the VOCs when you started blinking a lot and rubbing your eyes. Even before you mentioned the VOCs, I thought of that as being a possible problem. It's important to think about. Also the windows. I love having lots of windows. I've replaced my windows here with double paned, low E glass. I'm sure a new home would have them. You bring up some important points. Good video. Would like to know how much they cost.

They make the doors going into the bathroom to narrow. I was told by a representative that they could enlarge the door but the one I looked at by another builder had the toilet in the way. When I pointed this out they said they could enlarge the bathroom to do this. So of course the price goes up. If your looking to buy think ahead to make sure it will work for you down the road.

65% Nationally of manufactured housing is owned by seniors although few are built for wChairs. Clearly, downsizing and smaller one floor arrangements are to the benefit of seniors and disabled. However, you should check out whether particle board or plywood was used on floors....On many manufactured homes if there is a plumbing issue it can dissolve or warp a particle board floor. Freezing pipes in some areas is also an issue. Check out the insulation and materials not seen...

You were talking about "plastic smell" It's called off gassing. Anything new/manufactured like cupboards, flooring etc will have off gassing. Only way to get away from this is to have everything hand made But even appliances have off gassing, which you can't make yourself. So your stuck. But if you get hand made where ever you can at least you can reduce it.

As you get older, you find you want fewer and fewer material objects. I would remove a number of the built-ins and replace them with more appealing, personal pieces of furniture. Another item to downsize is the fridge. An older person needs a smaller fridge, set up higher, reducing the need to bend down.

This feels like a standard single-wide. I am assuming from your statement that it's built to a better standard? It doesn't feel like it - feels like cheap veneered cabinets, walls look thin, etc...
I get that older people don't need all the extra bedrooms because kids are gone, but I feel like that should be made up for with larger all around spaces (e.g. 700-900 sq ft one to two bedrooms). It's harder to move around when you're older, you may end up needing some kind of chair for mobility, you don't want to have to squeeze or climb around anything. The circular kitchen from the first model seems senior friendly, the rest feels like cheap mobile home marketing.

The storage is very nice..for the ones would be for things not used very often the others for the ones they use often...i believe what would be the best ..is to have the seniors design their own needs and what they need in terms of reaching in the storage places and bathrooms and their beds ..,kitchen supplies etc etc and that would be the real good senior tiny house...for the bathroom it would be better to have a bigger shower.,because lits of seniors need mire space ..to have a possibility to put a stool and not to have a sliding door to have a real glass door ...in case they feel bad difficult to get them out correctly...and why not...have the doors a little wider in case they are in a wheel chair...as well as having a special way to climb the outside stairs ...if needed.that is a senior tiny house....
