    You forgot to mention that there is the possibility of a second inspector. The LA Building and safety inspector will inspect the way the structure is built, but there is a separate inspector for DWP called an Electric Service Representative that will spot your meter. Most ADUs I inspect want a 2 gang meter panel that will allow separate billing for both dwellings. Good information though! I'm still trying to learn the LADBS side of things.

    courtesy inspection is the first inspection explained and by the field inspection.

    I appreciate the valuable information. I'm considering converting my 425 square feet garage into a JADU and constructing an ADU on top of the garage in Orange County. I know it's hard to say, but do you know the rough estimate of the construction costs for both units if I did as home builder. Thank you for your time

    Hi Hector, I'm just starting an ADU. Do you know if it is necessary to dig on all sides or one side is sufficient to expose the footing? My problem is that almost all sides and covered with concrete except the very back where I have about 6 feet wide patch of dirt where I can dig.

      You will have to dig all sides. Your plans will call for continuous footing.

      The number should be in the paperwork the city provided when you paid for the permit fees.
