@@Velveteenvision its because of the contract issue. They tried to sign him in the off season but he wanted more money then the contract they gave naji so he bet on himself to make more. If they don't think they can come to an agreement its the smart business move to trade him at his peak right now to get a return so you don't lose him for nothing
@@bervicksimien2848 its not false the mavs have to think about it because he didn't resign in the offseason when they offered him the same contract naji got and he wanted more money. It's smarter to trade him than lose him for nothing if they can't come to a contract agreement.
hello you i remember when you had mic issues and i thought wow this channel will never get anywhere and now look at you! you have grown into a channel i watch everyday even though im annoyed because you have the best basketball content, no one else can compare, i watch your videos everyday thank you for posting everyday modern jam
I still can’t understand why it took 10 games or so to start giving Grimes minutes, I still don’t understand why the Mavs didn’t lock down an extension on Grimes so we don’t have to overpay or lose him if he gets an offer too rich this summer. Grimes is the kind of player the Mavs need to be true contenders. If they had him and Klay last year I think the Mavs would have beat Boston. At 4.3 million, grimes is the best deal in the NBA. We must keep him for the future.
@ they couldn’t come to an agreement. He wasn’t rejecting the idea of an extension, we just didn’t want to pay him what will look like a bargain come summer time.
Great video, as a Mavs fan I can’t believe how good Grimes has been for how cheap we got him. We completely fleeced Detroit. He’s literally the perfect role-player and it’s flying under the radar. He’s super high energy. Plays great perimeter/guard defense. Can handle the ball and create his own shot, has one of the quickest/smoothest three point shots in the league. His averages are deceiving because he comes off the bench for Luka and Kyrie but he can give you 20/5/5 off the bench on any given night and make it look easy. He’s like everything the Mavs organization has been looking for with guys like Josh Green or Jaden Hardy for years now, rolled into one player, while actually playing elite defense. And the guy makes *4 MILLION DOLLARS* this year.
Grimes is only making $4M this season, which is an absolute steal. I commend the Mavericks for attempting to sign Grimes to an extension before the season started, but unfortunately, he declined their offer, which was around 3/$30M. He's a RFA at the end of the season, but hopefully, Dallas can retain him without overpaying.
Grimes has been a great player for the Mavs and he knew he was about to have a good year because he turned down a contract extension from the Mavs because it wasn't the money he knew he was going to get in the offseason. He's a restricted free agent this year so the Mavs can match whatever contract someone tried to give him.
He has been great but from what I know, he wants to get PAID and the Mavs might have to ship him off to a team that can pay him for sure. I think he’ll be more valuable because of his age than Klay Thompson.
I don’t know too much about how all this works but apparently he’s a RFA and has his bird rights. So from my understanding the Mavs can just match any offers he gets to bring him back. Unless some random team swoops in and gives him like $25 million a year
@@nomorepartiezz… it looks like that is more the likely scenario. Dallas will probably not be able to match other teams offers to Grimes. He’s already declined their first offer in the off season. And now when his value is just rising, he’s looking to get paid. Too bad for Dallas. They should have offered him more than 9 million/year for 3 years
Yeah, if they had locked him up in an extension last month we wouldn’t be shopping him. I expect more from Nico. If Kidd had actually played Grimes before the extension date maybe we’d have seen how good he was. Bottom line is, we had the chance, now we will either trade him or pay waaaay more this summer to keep him. Horrible decision from the Mavs front office.
Ì love Duce McBride but, I really wanted the Knicks to keep Grimes in that Raptors trade. Grimes is a 2way hooper who can shoot. Just couldn't stay healthy.
I Agree with you i wish they could have kept him as well there was reports coming out that he was in his feeling abit on how the direction of the team turned and cut his minutes i dont blame him i wanted him to stay and fight it out but he wasnt going to get his starting role back the burks trade was just helping him move on
heya man, started watching this year and have a watched about 4-5 vids so far, and really enjoying the content, if i were to offer some constructive criticism, I feel like I’d be much more likely to watch consistently if you worked on trimming a little fluff out of scripts, just noticing quite a few times where stats or phrases are being repeated a few times per segment, to the point where you could probably shave 5-10 mins off the vid and make it seem a little less intimidating for new or returning viewers and (hopefully) increasing retention :) other than that i love hearing your thoughts on the game
I’m loving Grimes. Unfortunately I don’t think we’re going to be able to keep him. He wants to get paid. So I think Nico is going to try to trade him instead of pay him. I hate this. But they have to make the money work….
Grimes bet on himself. He knew his worth in this league. There is so much talk about making dumb trades. I hope we don't really consider any of them. We need to figure out how to extend Luka and Kyrie and keep Grimes here. It'd be nice if we can resign Dinwiddie and Exum as well. There's plenty of work for GM Nico.
They could have signed him last month but couldn’t come to an agreement, that was also because until then Grimes had been getting DNPs from Kidd. So overall, failure from top to bottom with Grimes. Why make the trade if you’re not going to keep him, we don’t get deals like him often, he’s only making 4 million now, but he was projected to be worth 21.5 million based on his predicted stats, and sure enough, he’s doing that and more.
If we had Naji and Grimes last year, we would have won the Chip
Yep and now there’s been talk about trading Grimes 😕

Grimes and Marshall can put a healthy Mavs team over the top. Luka and Kyrie need to find a way to be healthy
I think we’re witnessing a little load management with those two.
If they don’t trade grimes
I remember being excited they had added JaVale McGee and a Christian Wood. Mavs fans, how far we’ve come 🙌

Perfect trade piece if Nico is seriusly considering a big trade! Grimes and Hardy will be key piece for a trade!

Grime time! Love this
Luka kyrie klay Grimes wake me when we find somebody on the roster that cant burn from outside
Right when the Mavs find one of the best role players they’ve had in a long time they are put in a situation where they might have to trade him.😞

The Knicks did keep Grimes in the Raptors trade. They traded him to the pistons for Alec burks & Bojan Bogdanovic which turned into Mikal Bridges.
