I grew up near Burton as a kid I used to go to Morecambe all the time. My family moved to Canada in 74, when I was only 11, now I live near the rocky mountains. I forgot what a beautiful view and how it looked, thanks for the memories, it makes me think of the time I spent there with my Dad.
Hiya Tim, great vid. I'm from the area, just thought I should tell you - the building early on that you thought was the train station - isn't anymore. It was once, but shut down in the 90s. It's a pub and music venue these days. The actual train station is a 5-10 minute walk from there, and unfortunately is much less grand lol.
Hi Tim, I’ve lived in Morecambe for 23 years, the platform which you thought was a train station is actually now used as a tourist information centre and is also used for live entertainment, when you enter the building you can see the old fittings and old ticket kiosk very interesting building
Great vid as usual. Was only here last weekend with my wife and little lad. As said above, railway station is about half a mile away from the front. The one you saw closed 60 years ago and is now a pub and restaurant but retains a lot of its original features. 👍 *edit* it closed in 1994, wrong info from a website! 👍

It was owned by the Thomson family who of course own blackpool pleasure beach and southport pleasure land (that was sold on) hope to see you do a walk around my home city of Preston sometime. Plenty of great buildings to see there including the Harris museum. Loved the Yorkshire ones you did. Butlins one was very interesting as I’ve stayed at primrose valley many times and was always curious to the location of the old butlins site. Keep up the good work.. 👍
Think you are wrong about the old train station, that's now a pub/restaurant, closing 60 years ago. That's definitely wrong, I'm 55 and I remember going to that station many times on the train, usually on a friday evening, we'd get the train to morecambe, go to frontier land then get the 22-10 train back to lancaster after frontier land finished at 10pm, every friday for many years, such good memories

There was a fantastic pier that was ignored and eventually after a number of fires was demolished. There were the Illuminations in the Fall. And marvellous old train station that was replaced with a shelter away from the sea front. The old station has others have said is now a pub. The Winter Gardens continues to struggle. The pool was replaced with nothing. Thankfully the Midland Hotel was saved. I do miss Morecambe and it has been 10 years since I was able to visit. I did enjoy your video and I hope Morecambe comes back. The front is looking very nice. Morecambe Bay shrimps are a favourite of mine. Take care and thanks for sharing.
The old outdoor lido, when you see pictures of it, was the largest one in Europe. It now houses a travelling funfair for the summer season. Back in as late as the 90's Morecambe was a hugely popular holiday resort, with a funfair and numerous arcades and tourist attractions. You can thank Lancashire County Council for turning Morecambe in to a ghost town. There are plans to turn the seafront in to a new Eden Project. However, will a huge greenhouse bring the tourists back?

Ye I remember it we came down from Scotland every year loved the indoor/outdoor swimming pool and the big show ground and you could go through an arcade to get into it I'm sure there was a big carasell thing you could sit in and it would take you over the show ground oit over the road and back into the shows again and a great pub/restaurant called upstairs downstairs
You can thank Lancaster City Council for turning Morecambe into the downtrodden craphole it is today. Starting in the 80s when they thought it would be a great idea to dump problem families, people with drug problems, ex prisoners (and basically anyone they didn't want housed in Lancaster) in Morecambe. They accelerated this process into the 90s and 00s and Morecambe is now paying the price. I've heard LCCs/Sercos recent initiative is to dump thousands of asylum seekers in hotels dotted around Morecambe. Should improve things (NOT)!
Morecambe has lost a lot over the years since I went when young, 2 piers, 2 funfairs, the large outdoor pool, at least the theatre is no longer at risk. You did show the corner of The Lubin cafe which time has stood still for, closed for years, but very popular at one time, I see it was now for sale with the hotel part next door.

Yes I agree I grow up in Lancaster when a was a child me and my friends use to spend all day Sunday in morecambe as there was a great outdoor swimming pool two fairgrounds and plenty to do think it needs a uplift now as there’s nothing getting the people in maybe Tyson fury could help

Born and live just down the road in Lancaster, loved Morecambe in my youth, the fairground, happy mount park, the illuminations, i had so many great times, great memories, still love the view across Morecambe bay, its different every time depending on the weather, and just across that bay is the lovely little town of Ulverston, which was the birthplace of one England's greatest ever funny men, Stan Laurel

I haven't been to Morcombe in a decade but it hasn't changed too much. The glass portico outside the Winter Gardens reminds me of Lord Street in Southport and the clock is bigger but quite similar to the one in Weymouth. Very interesting, thanks very much.

The panorama names all the huge Lakeland mountains that you can usually see across the Bay. They're amongst the tallest mountains in the UK. Great video BTW, keep up the good work ;)
The Stone Jetty, at the beginning on the right hand side as you start to walk down, was home to Marineland. Performing dolphins were homed there, and performed daily shows!
Just to state... you filmed/videod in a very quiet day... when it is sunny and that is a lot... the beaches are busy and the atmosphere and friendliness of Morecambe is brilliant. When you visit a place get all the facts right including The FORMER Railway Station. Plus you can bike from Heysham all the along promenade to the very end, brilliant. Might have not been born here but amazing. Also the Eden project will be here in Morecambe in about 2 years.

yes there is indeed! the hotel you are thinking of is called the Midland, in the 1980s or maybe 1990s (not too sure!!) it was used as a filming location for an episode of Poirot entitled Double Sin

Morecambe Bay is gradually silting up, just like the River Dee where You walked over to Hilbre the other day. As the East Coast of Britain is being washed away, the opposite is happening on the West coast (just look at Southport). Apparently this island of ours is very slowly tilting! Nice video Tim, it's been a long time since Morecambe. Used to take our kids to Frontierland!
Love Morecambe. Its my second home. Been going since ive been a child and now take my son. It's so relaxing and the beach is beautiful since they brought in the new sand.
Not a pier lol it’s a jetty hence called Stone Jetty !! Oh you don’t get off the train at the old station lol 😂 the station it’s about half a mile behind the old one which is now a restaurant and entertainment venue

Love your channel and you guys but lots of stuff to mention on Morecambe! You can get a guide to take you across a safe passage across the dangerous quicksands in the bay. Frontierland was the sister park of Blackpool Pleasure Beach (also owned by the Thompsons) which 'died' in about 2000 and the land has never been reused and you can still see the watershute evidence! It is very missed. Near the pier is the soon to be built Eden Project North. Happy Mount Park at the start of the seafront is also iconic.

Hi Tim, love your videos. We use them as a reference of where we may like to go during our travels to the UK from Australia. I must say that Morecambe was disappointingly overrated. We had an overnight stay on our way to Glasgow and found it to be frozen in time, the back streets were shabby and there was no holiday/seaside vibe. The sights you have focussed on were good, in particular the railway which we enjoyed. Thanks again.
A little bit up on the coast it's Silverdale and Arnside, both of them beautiful places, the opposite of Blackpool, Lytham, St Annes, and Morecambe. Worth a visit
Years ago, a comedian called Morecambe `The only seaside resort twinned with Grimsby crematorium`. In the many years since, much money has been invested and it is now far better.
For someone whose always been used to the east coast, this particular video makes a refreshing change. All I know of Morecambe, is that it is related in some way to Eric Morecambe, of Morecambe and Wise fame. Its your typical seaside resort that Tim enjoyed the culinary delights of. 😅 Cheers for such an interesting video! 👍
Hi Tim, just watching through all of your videos. I live near morecambe in a small rural village. You should visit Kirkby Lonsdale many good hotels and restaurants. Beautiful at Christmas time.
Excellent walk around. I must confess I don’t have fond memories of Morecambe; my sister went to uni in Lancaster and we visited morecambe a couple of times in the early 2000s. It was run down, tired and grim, with mudflats for a beach! Whilst they can’t do anything about the “beach”, it looks like the seafront has been regenerated - the midland hotel looks excellent! I also checked out the cafe on the stone jetty - it was a railway station until 1904 - you were right!
I remember Frontier Land, sealions and the large outdoor pool. And I think a bigger pier. I know they are thinking about building a new attraction. It's a great location for a Eden project.
Just started watching your videos, great stuff, you should visit some Scottish Seaside resorts, my personal favourites are Kirkcaldy, Leven, Arbroath, Ayr, Glospie, Nairn, Lossiemouth, Portobello and Broughty Ferry, if you want more Highland Scenery, Aviemore, Pitlochry and Fort William are great inland resorts
The weather conditions mean that you cannot see the fabulous Lakeland fells across the bay. These are named on the metal panorama installation- not the 'gullies and sandbanks'
My home town, I had to laugh when you mentioned the railway station and how you could get of a train right on the promenade, well 30 odd years ago maybe 😅 I Can just Imagine the look of confusion on one of your viewers getting of the actual train stations today. Cool to see all the same
As a morecamber it really shows how outsiders see its beauty...but I'm privileged enough to live where you started, so my view is constantly terrific or terrifying 🤣🤣🤣
Great video but it's a shame you visited on an overcast day, when you can't see the magnificent world class views across the bay. Usually, you can see across to the coastal villages of the Furness peninsula, with the big old Lake District mountains in the background. By far the best thing about Morecambe is our incredible views across to Lakeland, well worth a visit just for the views.

The cafe at the end of the stone jetty looks like a railway station because it was built by a railway company for passengers to board steamers for the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. It was a small zoo for a short time in the 1970s - I know that because I went fishing from that jetty many times and went bait digging on the mud when the tide was out. n the 1960s there was Marineland at the entrance to the jetty, where you could see performing dolphins and sealions but tastes changed and there was storm damage - so no more Marineland.

Also, Morcambe Bay is in Morcambe (a League 1 football team). The town of Morcambe and the city of Lancaster are kind of joined up but they are distinct places!

Oh and the “outdoor lido” is where the Bubbles water park used to be, it was there about 3 seasons and because it wasn’t making any money our amazing Lancaster City council had it knocked down and it’s been like that ever since the late 90’s, Taylor’s Funfair is normally on there in the summer and it’s the location for the proposed Eden Project North
The description is slightly wrong. Lancaster is right next to Morecambe, Morecambe isn't IN Lancaster. I live in Lancaster and it takes about 30- 45minutes to walk there
You should check out a design company called Why Not Associates who did the Eric Morecambe tribute along with the Comedy Carpet in Blackpool......They have done some other great typographic pieces like the pathway as you enter the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Cursing Stone in Carlisle
The gullies to which you refer are actually channels caused by tidal currents . The real piers were destroyed many years ago.West End pier and Central Pier.
Happy memories of Morecambe, I left to join the Army in 1985, I should have gone back when I came out ten years later but I went to Jamaica instead, trust me, Morecambe is much better.
Morecambe has plenty of potential, but realising it needs huge pots of cash. And with most Local Authorities being short on funding, it remains a problem. The very recent Government decision to give the Eden Project North the green light, along with £50 million in funding, can only help matters. Having visited the original Eden Project in Cornwall, which is excellent, I hope this one does as well....
The Midland Hotel, built in the Streamline Moderne style of Art Deco in the 1930's, is a stunning building, and do you know why it is? Because it ISN'T owned by Britannia Hotels!!!!!

Used to come here as a kid from Liverpool to Frontier Land, it was a saloon/cowboy themed fairground absolutely loved it, never forget it great place

Morecambe had two piers, central the one that burnt down in the 90s. There was also west end pier that came down in the storms of 77.
They are planning an Eden Project where the pool was - That should bring in the crowds.

Great little tour! The Queen was presented with a miniature replica of the Eric Morecambe statue after she unveiled it. I wonder if she still has it and if so where she keeps it!

Morecambe Bay is gradually silting up, just like the River Dee where You walked over to Hilbre the other day. As the East Coast of Britain is being washed away, the opposite is happening on the West coast (just look at Southport). Apparently this island of ours is very slowly tilting! Nice video Tim, it's been a long time since Morecambe. Used to take our kids to Frontierland!

It's so relaxing and the beach is beautiful since they brought in the new sand.
Not a pier lol it’s a jetty hence called Stone Jetty !! Oh you don’t get off the train at the old station lol 😂 the station it’s about half a mile behind the old one which is now a restaurant and entertainment venue
He called it a jetty allot and even explained it wasn’t a pier but felt like one

Love your channel and you guys but lots of stuff to mention on Morecambe! You can get a guide to take you across a safe passage across the dangerous quicksands in the bay. Frontierland was the sister park of Blackpool Pleasure Beach (also owned by the Thompsons) which 'died' in about 2000 and the land has never been reused and you can still see the watershute evidence! It is very missed. Near the pier is the soon to be built Eden Project North. Happy Mount Park at the start of the seafront is also iconic.

Not been to morecambe since I was 16 I’m in my 50s now and I remember in the 80s the funfair what a great day out we had I would love ❤️ to visit again I might go back one day

I went back in 1994 there was a bubbles swimming baths on the beach i was told its been pulled down it had not been there long
just discovered your channel, its excellent!! lovely to see MOrecambe i used to holiday there every summer back in the 1970s right up until; 1980 it was buzzing back then with the 2 piers and FRontierland etc, hopefully the EDen project will regenerate the area, im actually watching this vid on my laptop and a recent one where you visit the Liverpool Adelphi Hotel on my TV!!

Hi Tim, love your videos. We use them as a reference of where we may like to go during our travels to the UK from Australia. I must say that Morecambe was disappointingly overrated. We had an overnight stay on our way to Glasgow and found it to be frozen in time, the back streets were shabby and there was no holiday/seaside vibe. The sights you have focussed on were good, in particular the railway which we enjoyed.

A little bit up on the coast it's Silverdale and Arnside, both of them beautiful places, the opposite of Blackpool, Lytham, St Annes, and Morecambe. Worth a visit

Years ago, a comedian called Morecambe `The only seaside resort twinned with Grimsby crematorium`. In the many years since, much money has been invested and it is now far better.

For someone whose always been used to the east coast, this particular video makes a refreshing change. All I know of Morecambe, is that it is related in some way to Eric Morecambe, of Morecambe and Wise fame. Its your typical seaside resort that Tim enjoyed the culinary delights of. 😅 Cheers for such an interesting video! 👍

Hi Tim, just watching through all of your videos. I live near morecambe in a small rural village. You should visit Kirkby Lonsdale many good hotels and restaurants. Beautiful at Christmas time.
Excellent walk around. I must confess I don’t have fond memories of Morecambe; my sister went to uni in Lancaster and we visited morecambe a couple of times in the early 2000s. It was run down, tired and grim, with mudflats for a beach! Whilst they can’t do anything about the “beach”, it looks like the seafront has been regenerated - the midland hotel looks excellent!
I also checked out the cafe on the stone jetty - it was a railway station until 1904 - you were right!

I remember Frontier Land, sealions and the large outdoor pool. And I think a bigger pier. I know they are thinking about building a new attraction. It's a great location for a Eden project.

Just started watching your videos, great stuff, you should visit some Scottish Seaside resorts, my personal favourites are Kirkcaldy, Leven, Arbroath, Ayr, Glospie, Nairn, Lossiemouth, Portobello and Broughty Ferry, if you want more Highland Scenery, Aviemore, Pitlochry and Fort William are great inland resorts

The weather conditions mean that you cannot see the fabulous Lakeland fells across the bay. These are named on the metal panorama installation- not the 'gullies and sandbanks'

My dad told me about the notorious tides at Morcambe,apparently they used to do guided tours across the bay.

Great video but it's a shame you visited on an overcast day, when you can't see the magnificent world class views across the bay. Usually, you can see across to the coastal villages of the Furness peninsula, with the big old Lake District mountains in the background. By far the best thing about Morecambe is our incredible views across to Lakeland, well worth a visit just for the views.

The cafe at the end of the stone jetty looks like a railway station because it was built by a railway company for passengers to board steamers for the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. It was a small zoo for a short time in the 1970s - I know that because I went fishing from that jetty many times and went bait digging on the mud when the tide was out. n the 1960s there was Marineland at the entrance to the jetty, where you could see performing dolphins and sealions but tastes changed and there was storm damage - so no more Marineland.

Also, Morcambe Bay is in Morcambe (a League 1 football team). The town of Morcambe and the city of Lancaster are kind of joined up but they are distinct places!

@@WalkWithMeTim yeah you did a great job however a local guide would have helped in places lol !! That rusty mural on the prom is actually the Lake District mountain range !! Oh and the “outdoor lido” is where the Bubbles water park used to be, it was there about 3 seasons and because it wasn’t making any money our amazing Lancaster City council had it knocked down and it’s been like that ever since the late 90’s, Taylor’s Funfair is normally on there in the summer and it’s the location for the proposed Eden Project North
The description is slightly wrong. Lancaster is right next to Morecambe, Morecambe isn't IN Lancaster. I live in Lancaster and it takes about 30- 45minutes to walk there
You should check out a design company called Why Not Associates who did the Eric Morecambe tribute along with the Comedy Carpet in Blackpool......They have done some other great typographic pieces like the pathway as you enter the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Cursing Stone in Carlisle

The gullies to which you refer are actually channels caused by tidal currents . The real piers were destroyed many years ago.West End pier and Central Pier.
i used to go to morecambe as a young boy with my brother in the early 60s. there used to be a pier. i didn't recognise the place in this video
Happy memories of Morecambe, I left to join the Army in 1985, I should have gone back when I came out ten years later but I went to Jamaica instead, trust me, Morecambe is much better.

Morecambe has plenty of potential, but realising it needs huge pots of cash. And with most Local Authorities being short on funding, it remains a problem. The very recent Government decision to give the Eden Project North the green light, along with £50 million in funding, can only help matters. Having visited the original Eden Project in Cornwall, which is excellent, I hope this one does as well....
The Midland Hotel, built in the Streamline Moderne style of Art Deco in the 1930's, is a stunning building, and do you know why it is?
Because it ISN'T owned by Britannia Hotels!!!!!
