@@mabelsparks6738 Yes. The Spanish built it in 1529 (105 years older than Boston Common, the oldest park in the US) as a place for the people of Mexico City to relax and stroll in.

Greg, not to worry about those dislikes, that seems to be an act of a hacker. The same thing happened to another channel related to Mexico. "Maxico Mexico", you might want to contact him to see if UA-cam did something to fix this, or if the hacker just got tired. I believe, he or she, did this for about 6 or 7 videos.

Hi guys! If you find yourselves in El Zocalo before you leave 😭 I highly highly recommend you go inside the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico. It's exactly in the southwest corner of the square. It has an absolutely stunning lobby. I’ve been there about five times to show my gringo friends and only once it was closed for a private event so hopefully it’s open when you go, if you haven’t already. Go during the day though 'cause the roof is stained glass. There is also a restaurant at the top overlooking the square. That’s also where they filmed the opening scene of the last Bond movie.

Of course you loved it! It is not just a Sanborns it is "La casa de los azulejos". The house or palace belonged to the Alva's family. It was pretty original back in the XVIII century & it is still nowdays. The Azulejos are from Puebla, as you could appreciate it is a masterpiece, an example of one the best artcrafts in Mexico. By the way, the Franz Mayer museum right in Hidalgo's avenue next to the Alameda is one of the most beautiful artcrafts museums in the place. The Azulejos are from Puebla (like the Perms' ;) if there's that pure hue, a sort of indigo blue in an azulejo, it means it is the best azulejo you can find so if you remember the color it is actually it is also the expensive one. So the value of this beautiful place it's both related to the cost itself & design because patterns are truly amazing when you consider it as a design unit. A very difficult task was to create that level of symmetry & harmony. In Mexico city back in those days was difficult to conserve that kind of properties forced the owners to offer the first levels and rented those for commercial activities. And don't forget the patio...Pancho Villa made his horse go inside to the exact place where you were enjoying the Enchiladas Suizas. By the way for breakfast you can enjoy all kind of delicious eggs my favorite dish are the spicy "Huevos a la albañil". Part of the house was burned in a fire :( so, it was bigger & much more beautiful. NOW you must visit one of the beautiful & best restaurants "La fonda del recuerdo" their speciality is food from Veracruz. "El Danubio" a famous restaurant en el Zocalo one of the best places & their speciality is sea food. You can visit "La Hacienda de los Morales" if you want an exclusive & delicious place to eat mexican food in Polanco, "Restaurante el Lago" in Chapultepec or "La gruta" if you go to Teotihuacan is the best place to eat. The restaurant was founded in the Porfiriato. Enjoy!!

Wow, Sanborn's Azulejos! I grew up in that place, I love it and now my children love it too. It's also not just a touristy place but a very much locals place. It's also so much more than a restaurant since it has pharmacy, bakery, jewelry store, music store, clothes store, perfume store, gifts, electronics store, toy store, chocolaterie, etc etc etc, good online presence, good prices if you compare to other similar places plus good hours and classic Mexican food that is consistently good (since I was a child). Also their fruit juices are freshly made and come in amazing combinations that we love. Carlos Slim owns it, just like the Soumaya Museum (go!).... Best restaurants? OK, but consider we're Chefs so we might be a little prejudiced ok? Here goes:
1- Pujol, Mexico's Michellin Star Restaurant , amazing, not expensive if you compare to other Michellin places, it's a steal and totally worth it. 2- Azul Historico in Historic Center, romantic place set inside an old mansion, great food and wonderful Mezcal tastings, totally worth it. 3- Cafe Tacuba, an old favorite, love their coffee, tamales and everything about the place. 4- Contramar, because I love fish! 5- El Cardenal because... 6- La Casa de Tono, you know this one. 7- Fonda Margarita in la Del Valle for down home Mexican Cooking. Anyway there's so much there I'm looking forward to CDMX. Did you get the "Ruta de la Garnacha", it's on Amazon for $3 US, good options for cheap, good street food which I did not recommend until I give it the seal of approval. Now I have to leave because I made myself hungry!!!! Love the Huevos Sanborn's which are in reality called "Huevos en Rabo de Mestizo" a truly classic Mexican dish YUM! Also try the Pepitos....

Beautiful video like usual! Love that place, it reminds me me when I used to live there, used to go with my parents, family and friends for different occasions. That building is a jewel like Bellas Artes and Alameda. Glad you finally tried molletes and also love the traditional enchiladas suizas which were my Granma’s favorite dish. Chilaquiles verdes in desayuno package are good too! Thank you guys. Go to “El Bajío”. And if you go to Coyoacán again “Hacienda de Cortez” is great for breakfast, Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, there is a restaurant on the top. El San Ángel Inn, Bellini (Top of Mexico City WTC, but go like 5pm, Clear day so you see City views day and night) and Hacienda de los Morales are excelente but pricey. Don’t forget to go to Polanco! Lots of things to see there, including streets, Lincoln Park, Masaryk Ave, El Palacio de Hierro, Antara and Soumaya Museum. Entire day of fun. Last but not least, Teotihuacán. Hugs 🤗

Your information is correct guys, nochebuenas are originals from Mexico, Poinsettia is the last name of an US ambassador who was interested in this plant and took it to your country and made it popular there, they are related with Christmas because the leaves turn red only during the winter season, another thing you may not know is that they look like a plant but they can reach the high of a tree if planted on the ground

OMG! That was the biggest pinata I have ever seen!! In regards to whether there should be vendors in the park - I think there should be one spot designated for vendors and maybe not in the middle of the park but more off to the side somewhere. Even though the serenity is nice, people get hungry and thirsty when they're out and about. I can't get over how beautiful and clean the park is and how many amazing statues are there. GÜEREJA!!!!!.. the noche buena flower is native to Mexico!, in fact it grows wild in some states, tropical forest or dry forest it doesn't care, it is indigenous to the land.. it was named ponttesia after the U.S. ambassador who introduced the plant there, to the gringos, you would think he discovered a new species or something, naming it after him, it already had a name, 😕

Hey Kennons! Since you are torta fanatics, I'd like to recommend you to try the Tortas Robles, it is a small torta shack and it is only one block away from the Alameda. It is actually next to the Museo Mural Diego Rivera. On that shack you'll find a more homemade kind of tortas, not that big but full of flavor, plus they are really cheap!

Hi. Your videos are amazing and I love the way you research to provide with accurate (for the most part) information on the places you visit. Regarding Sanborn's, it's not the best option when talking about food, its quality is fair. What's worth about it is the building itself, which is a true gem.
Once again thank for your showing a much more positive view of Mexico.
    I'll keep on watching.

If you´re still in CDMX, try to take a coffe at the top of the building of Sears, right in front of the Bellas Artes building, in the night... the view will leave you breathless.

Found this about Sanborns for you in Wikipedia under Casa de los Azulejos. The descendants of the founders were my classmates at the American School in Mèxico City. Sanborns Edit
    Fountain wall of restaurant
Early in the 20th century, Frank Sanborn and his brother Walter opened a small soda fountain/drugstore on Filomeno Mata Street in the historic center of Mexico City, calling it Sanborns American Pharmacy[2] In 1917, the two brothers saw the old mansion as a place to expand their business. They took two years to remodel it, putting a stained-glass roof over the main courtyard, putting in new floors and adding a peacock mural by Romanian painter Pacologue. A less important mural was painted by José Clemente Orozco in 1925 called Omnisciencia, solicited by his friend Francisco-Sergio (Paco) de Yturbe with the approval of the Sanborns brothers.[1] A restaurant covered the inner courtyard and now dominates the establishment, which now is the flagship site for a chain of restaurants called Sanborns.[4][5] The building was declared a national monument in 1931.[5] Since the early 20th century, this Sanborns has been a popular place to have a meal in luxurious surroundings.[4] The business has hosted painters, writers, actors, poets and revolutionaries. It was a symbol of a cosmopolitan atmosphere in the first half of the 20th century.[2] The building was restored again between 1993 and 1995 after suffering a minor fire on the second floor. This project was aimed at preserving the elements of the building dating from the Baroque period, the French and Art Nouveau elements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the two murals, which had deteriorated considerably.[1] Sanborns currently belongs to billionaire Carlos Slim.

Hi, my name is Alejandro (Alex) and just found your channel and almost inmediately subscribed to it. You guys are really cool.
There's another restaurant if I remember correctly, on the same street as that Samborn's but on the side of the Cathedral its name is "El Popular" you have to arrive early or with enough time to spend as there's usually a waiting line. They bake their own bread and definitely must try the "chuz", they always and only get them out at 4pm sharp so you've got to be there on time as they fly the moment they're out of the oven. Have a nice day

Once I read an article about the best restaurants in Centro Histórico. I recommend you go there. Some are for tourist, some are for locals, but they all have something to offer. All except one are very old restaurants.
    1) Hostería de Santo Domingo (chiles en nogada all year round, and Sunday brunch is really good)
    2) Café de Tacuba (hot chocolate, churros and tamales)
    3) Bar La Ópera (this one is famous for the gun shot at the ceiling by Pancho Villa)
    4) El Cardenal (good for breakfast)
    5) La Blanca (love their cochinita pibil)
    6) Cafe el Popular (good at any time of the day)
    7) La Terraza at Gran Hotel de Mexico (good for late dinner, this time of the year it has a great view of Zocalo at night)
    8) Casino Español (any time of the day)
    9) Café de la Gran Ciudad (excellent view of Bellas Artes Palace)
    Greetings :)

The flowers were sacred to the aztec, the spaniards called them "Nochebuena" because they bloom in december (around christmas time). In the US they are known as Poinsettias because they were introduced to your country by H. Poinsett (who was a nefarious ambassador of the US in Mexico during the early 1800's).

Hey guys, another fun interesting video! Luis is right, poinsettias are original from southeastern México. Sanborn is the last name of the founders of the chain, which now belongs to Carlos Slim. The name "enchiladas suizas" is not because they come from Switzerland, of course. It is because they are covered with cheese and cream... and someone just came up with the idea that the dish looks like the Swiss Alps.

Tip: Molletes tastes better is you put a little (or a lot) amount of the "Mexican sauce (chopped tomato, onion and chili)" that appears next to them. :-)

Awesome :) I like your video. Just... I noticed you ate the molletes without anything on top of them. You are supposed to add the thing they gave you full of tomato and onion and chilli... It looks like some sauce, but it's just the topping for the molletes, haha. I'm glad you liked it here... I live very close to where you were.

The market itself is a flower market and right now is full of Christmas trees people buy for their houses.

"la hostería de sto domingo" is one of the must traditional places in Mexico.
One of the more traditional gourmet plates in mexican cuisine was invented there to commemorate the entering of the "trigarante" army to the city.
I am of course speaking of the "Chile en Nogada".
