Hello, Andrew. I hope you're doing well. Another great interview. I think what's most heartbreaking about this case is that they won't call her "mom" any more. Watch the BBC documentary and hear what her son had done to him by the cult before judging his actions - shutting him away and only allowing him to speak in the presence of a senior member isn't exactly designed to make you able to stand up and be counted - and that's what they did to someone they already preyed upon .... So no, maybe their actions now aren't nice but we have to see what these groups do to people and align that with our knowledge of group psychology and then realise that all of us have the potential to be not nice in the circumstances that ensure that is necessary
What a smart, strong and sympathetic lady. I wish her all the best. May time heal everything and the boys will find their way back to reconnect with their mommy. Thank you for bringing up this topic, Andrew.
Hello there is the odd police officer with a cult awareness but they need a lot of education which is what the Family Survival Trust and other experts both sides of the pond are campaigning for.
This episode is my favourite so far. I appreciate the empathy you have for people who have been or are in cults and their families who miss them. Rani is so intelligent and raised her kids to be as well. It can happen to anyone. A lot of people judge victims of cults and assume they are unintelligent. As an English teacher, I loved Rani's use of vocabulary. It wasn't pompous at all. Haha. Whether I agree with every topic you discuss or not (this one I definitely do agree with), I respect your journalistic integrity and the unheard stories that you have an interest in telling. It opens so many interesting and important conversations. Most people in the comments are able to respectfully disagree. (Although there will always be some loons! Haha!) I enjoy reading the comments and seeing videos with views that oppose my own. I think your content is good at making people question their own beliefs, which is so important. We need to challenge ourselves for personal growth to occur. I hope Rani's sons see this and come to an honest realization about the Lighthouse Global cult they are in. I have never heard of this organization until now. I'm looking forward to the next episode. 😊
I'm an Aussie and haven't heard of this group before. So I used good old Google and caught up. EVERY cult leader is basically the same. Some are more violent, some are sexual molesters, and it's always about money acquisition, idolatry and control. Paul Waugh wouldn't be too interested in poor toxic parents and their offspring. Only the well-off or rich would be actively recruited. What an intelligent guest. Thank you Andrew.
What a lovely woman, how awfully sad her son's have missed out on her being in their lives and it goes without saying it is inconceivable that they could treat her the way they have.
Excellent interview. So great you let her talk more. Gives the audience a better picture. I'm so sorry this happened to her & her sons. How evil these groups are because there is deliberate intention to deceive, manipulate & control. Takes a long time to recover & heal. Keep shining the light to bare the dark corners & shadows. Her experience will help other eyes be opened to the truth. She is not alone... I pray the desire for the truth grows more in her sons & in all our hearts.
Thank you for your work Andrew. Some presenters are afraid to use the word "Narcissist" and it shuts down an important part of the conversation. I appreciate that you go there. It's really not hard to identify them once we are familiar with one or two of them. They are all similar in certain ways- peculiar traits, as Rani says. Love to Rani, my heart goes out to her. This is so sad. We need self-protection and to understand how to protect our loved ones, and shows like this help us learn how to do that.
Rani is an intelligent and articulate lady and it shows how brutal, incidious, manipulative and utterly cruel these cults are and there are no lengths that they won't go to in order to get what they want without any thought or care for the consequences caused to their members and the members families. Rani's sons calling Rani by her first name is an act of disrespect meant to hurt her, put her down and put/keep her in her place. Best wishes for the future Rani. I hope that your sons are able to break free soon and once again become the close knit family that you once were and that you deserve to be again.
OMG I’ve had several run ins with this cult! My neighbours daughter got involved with this and completely cut herself off from her family, it was devastating for her parents! I also had an ex who got involved in this and encouraged me to come along to an evening to see about it, I didn’t realise what it was until my mum found out and freaked out!! I went out of morbid curiosity but knew that I wouldn’t get sucked in. I wasn’t clever enough to use a fake name or details and the called me and emailed me for months afterwards!
So heartbreaking to hear what this amazing woman has been put through. I hope her sons come out of the spell they’re under and reunite with her taking full responsibility for what they’ve made her suffer.
Rani Singh sounds like she has PTSD from all of the abuse, she has suffered from this cult and Paul Waugh. I wish her well I feel very sorry she has to suffer this from her family the theft they perpetrated against her, is so troubling.
I watched your interview with Rani yesterday and BRAVO for you and most particularly for Rani. My heart breaks for this beautiful woman, I cannot imagine the depth of her pain. I have two sons that I raised by myself, and as Rani's sons have done both of my boys have had amazing University Educations. One has finished his Master's Degree and my youngest is working on his now. My boys, although as different as night and day, are the halves of my heart. I know my heart would surely break if I had gone through what Rani has gone through, and indeed what she continues to go through. My hats off to you Andrew for helping to expose this nefarious cult and my prayers will include Rani for here on out. Andrew the work you are doing on your Podcast is of the utmost importance, please continue your stellar work and may God continue to hold you in the palm of his hand.
Poor woman. It is very worrying that they could convince an intelligent articulate woman like her to part with so much money. What a shame her sons have been persuaded to attack her. They should be ashamed.
I’ve been worried about these life coaching/mental health apps. They are not beholden to HIPAA laws in America, where I live. I worry that the coaches could use what deep secrets are revealed to them as a means of blackmail.
Absolutely! People don’t think about this. Better help had a huge social media push then people dug in and found they aren’t licensed or trained! So online people pulled away but then they pushed onto podcasts and even tv ads! People are to trusting online in general. It used to be never use your own name, never give personal info.. now people freely put it all over social media, in chat rooms, gaming, and these apps.. people don’t think about the fact they are giving a random stranger deeply personal info talking to these ‘coaches’ or ‘therapists’ .. sadly until people start speaking up it will get worse and more will be taken advantage of.
1) Rani is clearly an intelligent, warm and caring human being. I hope her sons realise how valuable SHE is before it's too late. 2) note that Andrew doesn't have any written notes. I think this is why he's such an exceptional interviewer; he gives his guests room to speak, making the interview conversation driven and allowing the guests to get across the points that they want to, without Andrew driving his own agenda.
I believe I know people who are involved either with this or something very similar. It usually involves these charismatic characters who convince those who want to get rich that they have to spend money (with them) to make money. It's astonishingly difficult to talk people out of it - they are delusional and the delusion is very powerful.
As mothers, we're always questioning ourselves and wondering whether we could've done things better and how we can improve. It's disgusting how he played on this. I know Paul is South African, but we're not all like him 😁
The conflicted feelings about keeping it quiet versus openness in calling it out, are very powerful and genuine conflicts. Abusers rely on their victims not taking action and not being heard. 😢 I wonder what happens to all the money that's paid to these types of organisations? 🤔 😊xx
Many cults try to find young adults at University. I once had some classmates who had wanted me to go to some specific event. My bells went off and I immediately and respectfully refused. This is heartbreaking that this woman worked so hard, as a single mother, to give her children wonderful education. This cult essentially stole her sons which is her family and her safety net. She’s a delightful woman. Wishing her the best of everything and hope for her son’s realize they’re being conned.
Well done Rani for not getting sucked into the cult yourself. As your sons had joined, and the group was love-bombing you, etc, it would have been so easy to have followed them and joined. You were too smart and too strong for their BS. But that's not to say intelligent people (like your sons) don't fall for these cults, as they clearly do. They just get unlucky and taken advantage of by narcissists like Paul Waugh. Great interview as well, all the right questions and letting the interviewee speak full answers.
She needs to put the blame on her sons. They are adults and did this to her. Yes, I know they are in a cult. But they are still adults and know what they are doing.
Yes, she said one of her sons was in his 30s… & living with his Mother… not a child. I feel she was somewhat “ influenced & love bombed” & was partially involved herself… this boils down to greed, putting a HIGH value on status & $$$$.. the sons were probably raised to HIGHLY value the mighty $$… scammers! Why doesn’t she want to admit it is a “CULT”!!?? It DEFINES IS!! Say it like it is!! $$$ is all their gods….
Interesting about Mum/Rani. My ex who is most probably a narcissist also called her Mum her name (Sue). It seems like Scientology can tap into and bring out the narcissist in people.
In Liverpool 5 there is a church called lighthouse based in a old cinema, I wonder is this in some way related. Thanks to Rani for highlighting this awful cult.
Not too sure. Groups like LIG tend to choose names that can be confused with something already out there to have an echo of familiarity...I doubt the leader would consider spending money on premises other than for himself. Because everyone, of course, needs to visit him at his own place.
my Ex son inlaw got caught up in a sect when my daughter left the state for training .. was a nightmare . thank goodness hes away from that now . ruined a family .
Wow how brave you are! At the root of this, in my opinion, is that any contact with these individuals, sects, cults, even some social media campaigns are situations of inevitable harm and are best avoided in the first place. If we trust our instincts we have a better chance of veering around them. But to be there because your kids signed up wow that’s a tough one. Take care!

What do the police do about these people, surely Rani can't fight these people alone.
Hello there is the odd police officer with a cult awareness but they need a lot of education which is what the Family Survival Trust and other experts both sides of the pond are campaigning for.
When I heard the documentary on BBC World Service, the first thing that came to mind was Scientology.
Yes! I just watched it this evening 😮. The similarities are amazing. Eejit leader, taking people's money, splitting up families. Just unbelievable 😢
Andrew ur a True Gentleman and put ur guests at ease My Heart goes out to this mother It's an awful way to be treated ❤
Only just heard about Lighthouse today, via a BBC news article. Shocking stuff. Good interview
Great interview. Gripping and very sad. Squirrel Busters was the term Rani was thinking of they turned up at Marty Rathburns house.
I watched this lighthouse on BBC - it’s very shocking and terrifying 😱
What a lovely woman, how awfully sad her son's have missed out on her being in their lives and it goes without saying it is inconceivable that they could treat her the way they have.
Thank you CC
Excellent interview. So great you let her talk more. Gives the audience a better picture. I'm so sorry this happened to her & her sons. How evil these groups are because there is deliberate intention to deceive, manipulate & control. Takes a long time to recover & heal.
Keep shining the light to bare the dark corners & shadows. Her experience will help other eyes be opened to the truth. She is not alone...
I pray the desire for the truth grows more in her sons & in all our hearts.
Brave story, Rani! Thank you so much for sharing!
Such a lovely guest, lovely woman...Very sad story but beautiful to see she has hope to have reconciliation with her sons...
What an amazing lady. I would be proud to call her mum. X
Heart breaking. What a wonderful ma & brave woman.
Well done for escaping
So heartbreaking to hear what this amazing woman has been put through. I hope her sons come out of the spell they’re under and reunite with her taking full responsibility for what they’ve made her suffer.
What a wonderful, brave, well spoken, strong woman ❤
Very courageous woman to speak about her experience. And the BBC reporter who is doing the documentary. I'll definitely be watching that too
Rani Singh sounds like she has PTSD from all of the abuse, she has suffered from this cult and Paul Waugh.
Those intensive sessions with the cult leader sound like psychological abuse to me. I hope she sues.
So sad that they are still getting away with tearing families apart
Poor woman. It is very worrying that they could convince an intelligent articulate woman like her to part with so much money.
What a shame her sons have been persuaded to attack her. They should be ashamed.
Fantastic interview 👏👏
I’ve been worried about these life coaching/mental health apps. They are not beholden to HIPAA laws in America, where I live. I worry that the coaches could use what deep secrets are revealed to them as a means of blackmail.
They do.
Much love and wisdom to Rani and her sons💔
Such a lovely and intelligent lady. My heart goes out to her.
What a courageous woman! And smart, too. I'm glad you spoke up! Well done, ma'am!
I wonder what happens to all the money that's paid to these types of organisations? 🤔
😊xx
Many cults try to find young adults at University. I once had some classmates who had wanted me to go to some specific event.
My bells went off and I immediately and respectfully refused.
This is heartbreaking that this woman worked so hard, as a single mother, to give her children wonderful education.
This cult essentially stole her sons which is her family and her safety net.
She’s a delightful woman.
Wishing her the best of everything and hope for her son’s realize they’re being conned.
Thank you Aimee I did my best with what I had at the time
@@RaniReporter You’re still an amazing mother to me. ❤️👍🏼
This poor soul..NEVER a borrower or a lender be. NO EXCEPTIONS !!!..Always trust your gut. ,!!!
Two adult sons taking from there mother. They should be making there own money.
I know people who call parents by their name. None of them are narcissistic, rather they see their parents as a whole person, not just their parent.
It's obnoxious to not address your mother correctly.
Take care!
I really hope her son’s snap out of it, return home and ask for forgiveness. ❤️❤️❤️
This is happening to me right now and since 2019, by life coaches assigned to students of the University of lethbridge in Alberta, Canada.
Rani is so Eloquent, I watched the BBC doc the other night, so powerful to hear her speak on this. Sending love to Rani 🫶
Thanks Kelli! She is so brave, and these words mean a lot to her.
Heartbreaking! Thanks for giving Ms Singh a platform, Andrew.
😮He is South African? We do not claim garbage like Paul. Rani I'm so sorry you went through this! You are such a strong woman and I cannot imagine it being easy❤
This is so sad, using a lot of the same tactics as Scientology,I hope this lovely, brave woman gets her sons back x
They might realise one day they have been fully duped Suzie
This is nothing like Christianity. As a mother, my heart truly goes out to this lovely lady. I hope she is reconciled with her boys.
Blessings Rani - your sons are beautiful, may this be resolved & you are all reunited 🙏🏽❤
What a heartbreaking story and how strong of this mother to share her story. I hope she can reconcile with both of her sons. ❤
I had never heard of lighthouse until yesterday. Just wow. I watch a lot of shows on cults and always wondered if and what cults we have here in uk . All the best for future rani I hope you get your sons back ❤
When such a strong, intelligent woman can barely escape the complete indoctrination says an awful lot. Don't ever give in and continue to speak so eloquently. Thank you, Andrew.
My parents would definitely have told me to piss off.
The appeal to her sons made me so sad 😢. I pray they will come back to her!
Thank you for speaking your truth, R. 🙏and to you, Andrew, thank you, thank you for your channel. I just found it and with it the existence of the Family Survival Trust. I have been looking for a charity like this in the UK for months and had not found any. Your experience and your authentic, sweet and kind presence felt like a soothing balm. All best wishes!
Get rich quick schemes….. why do they fall for this …… greed for money……😮😮😮
I love her. What an amazing person!
Wishing her and her family all the best. Big hugs.
Thank you both for exposing these cults.
Heartbreaking situation fir this amazing woman. I hope her boys will come to see the lie they are living and reunite with her
