Thanks Tim. Slow leak at tub spout when valve was closed. The tub was not used very often and was installed 3 years ago. Your video was the only one I found that fully explained how to repair and service the valve. Very good work as you enabled old electrician to fix plumbing without flooding the house.
This was the best video on the delta p cartridge that I found on UA-cam. I didn't know you could totally take the cartridge apart and how the inner parts worked. I do now. Thanks for a great video!
Thank You! When I pulled the cartridge out of the valve body it came apart and the springs dropped into the wall. Delta has a video that shows a model that has the springs and seals going directly into the valve body and not the cartridge. When the springs flew I was watching where they were going and not where they came from. The new springs weren’t going directly into the valve body without additional parts that I never saw. The parts that Delta showed needed to be special ordered and would not have worked. I was was lucky to have found your video. I had bought a new cartridge, springs, and seats. After watching your video I lubed up the old cartridge, installed the new springs and seals. 10 minutes later I was back in business with a great working system and I can return the new cartridge for a refund. If it wasn’t for your video I would have probably replaced the complete valve assembly. This would require cutting a hole in the living room wall and several swear words 😊
Thanks Tim! I just installed a new Delta Universal Valve that came with this cartridge. After installing and tested, we realized that the cold water won't shut off. You video helped to identify the issue as a missing o ring inside. Lowes was kind enough to give me the replacement kit so I did not have to deal with Delta customer service. Thanks again!
Wow what a great help you were. I did the 2 small seal O rings and springs for my Delta and it worked out perfect. That cartridge was $49 and I was told IT IS A BIT DIFFERENT then the one I have but it (should) work. So I decided to try the seals instead. Of coarse they did not sell those so I came home and actually ordered them from Amazon along with the grease. So the 2 seals with springs and a small tube of the grease was like $9 delivered in 2 days! I appreciate people who are out to inform the average person that saving BIG money can be achieved by searching out better solutions then slapping down the cash because we are told we need a cartridge and they don't mention the least expensive option. So Thank you Tim!
Thanks for this video. It gave me the confidence to open the cartridge and clean out the debris jamming the hot water intake. A lot of the other videos on UA-cam merely assume you will need to replace the entire cartridge when repairing the cartridge is the better option.
Awesome video !! This is the only video that shows how to take the cartridge apart. The cartridge came apart when I tried to pull it out (normally the whole cartridge comes out). Delta wanted me to change only the seats and springs, now I know how this works, Thanks!
Very Helpful, I didn't know, only 3 years old and starting dripping, now to find the springs and washers. Appreciate you taking time in middle of the work day, just know it is helpful. Thanks Tim
Men you will know it now, you save my life, i have this system on my house in Puerto Rico (delta one) but just one line is use an I bought that same cartridge with the whole faucet and it turns that using one line (hot water line in this particular case) i just remove that cylinder a water flows normally. If you ask why i did that because here in puerto rico I don’t know there but here we have shower heater Marey Brand i think and you put it the top of the shower, that’s why. Thanks for your video. Very helpful. Minute 1:50 to minute 3:00 🙏🏼
I think you have just solved a problem I been having with one of these valves that was driving me crazy, I do not have hot water hooked up at this time and after installing this valve with very good water pressure, I had almost zero water coming out the shower faucet, now I know what the problem is, thank you very much
Thank you thank you I saw videos of people saying to break the end piece that got stuck out. Thanks to you I got it out without damage and back together temps adjusted and it cost 0. Thank you so much
Thanks Tim, I've been an apprentice for 2 months doing service calls and have been trying to understand more about different shower cartridges and your video has helped me a lot. Thanks again!
Very helpful video the best video I've seen in UA-cam you show me in 20 minutes what all the guys has show me in an hour I didn't know that you could break that so many parts you make it very easy thank you
This was so helpful, Tim! Fixing a leaking shower/bathtub shower valve without replacing the complete cartridge. Have done it quite a few times before for clients, but will be able to do it on the spot now at a much lower cost, as I always carry a supply of Delta faucet washers and springs with me.
Thanks a million Tim, I'm having this issue with a brand new cartridge. Can't wait to get home so I can follow your pointers. I'm hoping the cylinder is just stuck.
Thanks for explaining about the springs and rubber seals inside the cartridge. No one else did in their videos; and I was getting frustrated because from the start of a new install, the water would not turn off! Turned out the sealed box with everything unopened, apparently had a cartridge where someone in the factory forgot to put them in. If you had not explained the importance of them, I wouldn't have figured it out as quickly, seeing as I had never installed one of these myself! Thanks again for the detailed, extra explanation. You're a good teacher!
I would like to thank you for this great video! you have educated me enough to where I feel like I can give this a try, I am going to get the spring kit and I'll let you know if this worked for me. My Bath Faucet has been dripping for awhile now and my family has been wondering why for awhile now. once again thank you so much!
This little ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
Hey Tim your video was very helpful 👍🏽thank you man. I just started my first job as a maintenance tech and watching this video just made my district manager save a lot of money lol. They was gonna buy a bulk of cartridges but seeing this I told them all they had to purchase was the springs & seats. Thank you again. This definitely a good learning experience 🙌🏽
Thank you , very helpful video. Leaky shower/bathtub. The back portion of the cartridge did not come out with the grey part of the cartridge , how do I remove without damaging ?
Hi Tim. Thank you so much for this video. I am about to replace the spring and washer for my delta shower and was wondering is you have a follow up video for the lubing to the cylinder? Specifically what type should be used and the proper methodology. Please let me know. Thanks again.
❤👷🏻♂️🇨🇦Hi Tim….Well, thank you for this video….I was stumped and unable to figure out what was going on with my NEW shower/tub install. When you said pull out on the adjustable water supply….it was like Awesome! So, I went and did what you suggested…there you GO!
I plan to do a video tomorrow and there’s going to be a Shoutout for YOU my Brother!…By the way, my wife and I live in a CHURCH….you might find our channel interesting!
Great video tim. The set screw on mine was corroded so it looks like a handle and cartridge change. I do ac work….I’d say sometimes it’s worth the whole change and pass it on to the customer so not call backs. I can see it both ways. I like for them to save money also but we can’t afford for that 2 and 3 call back then it starts getting into our profits.
Rebuild our house after fire, only cold water for now. No water at shower or tub. Now I know why. Adding the hot later will balance correct flow. Thank you!
Very Helpful. Delta didn't even put anything about the new water safety on the packaging. For the price you pay, they should. I've done this plenty of times and had no idea why we couldn't get hot water.
Great video, thank you! We just installed a brand new Delta P shower valve and cartridge but noticed a slow drip from one of the holes in the shower head. I took the cartridge out to inspect and nothing was out of the ordinary so I installed it back and now the dripping is even worse. It’s a steady stream now, not a drip. Any idea what could be the issue? I think it’s inside the cartridge somewhere as I was pulling it apart to look inside. Thanks in advance.
So thankful I came across this video. I have replaced the two springs and seals but still leaks. I saw some where that the springs give out and have to be replaced. I replaced them with FlowRite wp-993 and the packaging says Seats and Springs, Newer Short Style (4 PIECE Kit). Is there another style that have a slightly longer spring..
Tim Very helpful with adjusting water temperature.. I have decent pressure in other rooms but not as good in shower with this valve? Any suggestions I took the CA water saver piece out of shower head - helped a little bit but could use more pressure - thanks for help in advance..
You didn't mention that some of these are under LIFETIME warranty from Delta. You can get a new one free of charge just by contacting Delta. After replacing our hot water heater, our showers, both Delta and about 9 years old, started giving us a shower that was inconsistent temperature to the extreme. I replaced one cartridge, and it started doing the same thing after one shower. I opened the old cartridge to find the problem, but it's not obvious. Perhaps the cylinder isn't moving as freely as it should? I did find a very small piece of plastic near a washer. One theory is crud got into the valves; and I'm about to replace the cartridge again. Any wisdom you can add?
How come no one shows about the inlets o rings replacement and that other rubber seals that snap into the little hole on the two grill inlets. You can see the little triangle seal nipples protruding out of the center of those two inlets grills where the water goes in. How do you change those seals and the parts, the ring and that back flow seal thanks
I though the plastic cartridge was glued. So I split it and cleaned the piston and body. Bad rusty well water. Should the flow be the same on the end cap. Hot I can blow through easily. Cold side barely moves air from my mouth. I see it has a little diaphragm that has to open.
Nice video; what I don't understand is I didn't have any significant cold water coming out of the mixing valve (cartridge removed and water flow tested in the line before the mixing valve was fine). I found out that the mixing valve has a set screw on both the hot and cold, the cold was threaded in too far, once pulled out cold water came out with good flow. However, after putting the cartridge back in, still no cold water. I ended up taking the cartridge apart from the turn knob, turned the cartridge 180 degrees, reattached it to the turn knob, reinserted into the mixing valve and guess what, great flow coming out of the cold side (as well as the hot). What I don't understand is why flipping the cartridge worked, maybe it was a stuck bearing???
One of the worse things on the Delta is the low water flow. I have to go in and D shape the orfice holes so you can take a decent shower (after you gut the shower head) or not wait forever to fill the tub.
Tim your videos are helping me tremendously, in trying to upgrade old bathtub fixtures. The only thing I can’t figure out, is how to replace the old ball cartridge with the type P or somehow mesh those together. Is there anyway you can please help?
good info Tim. My Delta P is not leaking, but is sticky and hard to adjust the temp. Would lubricating it help? Your info mentions lubrication, but don't mention what type of lube is used. Thanks!
great video, I can't find the answer for my question anywhere, I was hoping you mention something a bout what to do when a delta cartridge breaks in 2 pcs and the blue one stays inside and doesnt come out at all.
Great video, Question I get not flow from the cartage and the pressure valve is free lubed, It does seem like the left side of the valve has no pressure with the cartage removed. I do live in the desert and the house is super hot when nobodys home. Any ideas, shower is not really used much. Could the house temp cause the cold side water to come out hot closing the vavle?
Hey Tim, great video! I had a question. Even after adjusting the temp ring in the delta valve, my hot water isn’t as warm as I’d like. Is there anything I can do to adjust the hot water temp to get warmer? Thanks!
Love this video and been replacing just the seats for years. Now it continues to drip with brand new seals. Dont really understand why but I guess my only choice is to buy the 65 dollar cartridge for the 4th time. Our water is pretty bad, lots of hard water and scum/sediment in the pipes. Can't find anything wrong with the cartridge and hate to buy a new one but what else to do?
Hey Tim. I just installed o e of the delta mixer and the water doesn't come out but if I remove the cartridge with the water running and install it with the water running it stays on and can't be turned off. The line isn't pressured And there's no hot water connected on the line either
Buenas tardes Tim. Saludos
Very good explanation, I didn't read the warning for cold water flows first and I opened the hot water first, then no water came out of the faucet. Is there a way to fix it now?
Ok I got a doozy for ya, same delta faucet house is only 2 years old and the master bathroom shower faucet goes from extreme hot to stone cold replaced the cartridge twice and still no luck, the other 3 bathrooms don’t have that problem cause I’ve showered in them, it’s only the master bathroom shower, any ideas would be greatly appreciated I’ve also taken the cartridges apart like you explained and lubed them and repaired the springs and washers and still no luck.
Thank you Tim! I just bought a T13022 trim kit and I was trying to figure out the P cartridge. Your video gave me a lot of insight. I have the water turned off right now so I can fix the piping. I count 13 notches from the Cold side to the Hot side. What notch number do you recommend (just a “guestimation”) to line up with the end of the Hot side arrow without testing the temp while keeping it not more than 120 degrees? Thanks
The notches only effect how far you can turn the handel in a given direction. Adjust it to one side and put the handle back on. Notice how far you can turn your handle left and right. The actual water temperature is set at your hot water heater. The handle even if turned all the way to open on hot will not go past whatever your preset hotwater heater pressure is. Most are set to 120 by default.
For those asking about the warranty this product has and able to get one free...this video is about teaching and learning how to for those with no warranty. I'm sure if there's a warranty the consumer is well aware of it
Tim I just changed my rubber washers and springs like you just said and it's still dripping at the same rate it was before. I get hot and cold water and plenty of pressure. What else could it be? Should I just replace the cartridge at this point?
Very Helpful, Thank you!!! My son called me asking how to replace this cartridge. I found your video and walked him through it.
Thanks Tim.

Great explanation of how the pressure balance valve works.

You're a good teacher!
Thanks Tim! Explained very well. Looks simple enough. Pretty basic design.
I tried this trick two times but it never worked. Got to call Delta asking for the whole thing. Thank you for the video!

The best information on this cartridge I've come across.
Thanks 👍👍
You are a genius....You just earned a new subscriber.
Thanks for the well taught lesson.

Great job showing how to fix the valve but how do you remove it?
Thank you! You saved me $65 dollars on a replacement cartridge…

Exactly what I needed to know! Thank you!
Hey there, nice video. Very interesting and well explained. 👍 good job. Please keep up your video's.
Thanks again Tim, I learned somthing new today about that valve.
Great video sir...thanks for the trade secrets!
Wow, you saved me 75 bucks, thank you
this video saved my day!!!
thank you so much much much
So thankful I came across this video.
Tim
Very helpful with adjusting water temperature.. I have decent pressure in other rooms but not as good in shower with this valve? Any suggestions I took the CA water saver piece out of shower head - helped a little bit but could use more pressure - thanks for help in advance..
Thank you, sir Very helpful video!
👍 Tim, Have a good day!
Any wisdom you can add?
Only 1 yr warranty for residential
How come no one shows about the inlets o rings replacement and that other rubber seals that snap into the little hole on the two grill inlets. You can see the little triangle seal nipples protruding out of the center of those two inlets grills where the water goes in. How do you change those seals and the parts, the ring and that back flow seal thanks
You can get new cartridges on eBay for under $20 they are clones for delta.
I though the plastic cartridge was glued. So I split it and cleaned the piston and body. Bad rusty well water. Should the flow be the same on the end cap. Hot I can blow through easily. Cold side barely moves air from my mouth. I see it has a little diaphragm that has to open.

Great video Tim, but how do I remove the whole piece if already installed?
What would you recommend for lubing up the pressure balance cylinder?
Nice video; what I don't understand is I didn't have any significant cold water coming out of the mixing valve (cartridge removed and water flow tested in the line before the mixing valve was fine). I found out that the mixing valve has a set screw on both the hot and cold, the cold was threaded in too far, once pulled out cold water came out with good flow. A true professional 👍🏻
You saved me $60. Thank you!
Thank you for your help. I'm going to try it.
One of the worse things on the Delta is the low water flow. I have to go in and D shape the orfice holes so you can take a decent shower (after you gut the shower head) or not wait forever to fill the tub.
Really helpful stuff, thanks Tim!
This is so helpfull! thank you Tim!
Great video, and good information 👍
Great video. Well explained.
Gracias amigo now I know how to fix my valve thanks to you
Tim your videos are helping me tremendously, in trying to upgrade old bathtub fixtures. The only thing I can’t figure out, is how to replace the old ball cartridge with the type P or somehow mesh those together. Is there anyway you can please help?
thank you so much the new ones don't last long now because of that bearing
good info Tim. My Delta P is not leaking, but is sticky and hard to adjust the temp. Would lubricating it help? Your info mentions lubrication, but don't mention what type of lube is used. Thanks!
Thank you, very helpful information.
Absolute life saver
great video, I can't find the answer for my question anywhere, I was hoping you mention something a bout what to do when a delta cartridge breaks in 2 pcs and the blue one stays inside and doesnt come out at all.
That was a great video, my cartridge was missing both washers and springs is that common?
Great video, Question I get not flow from the cartage and the pressure valve is free lubed, It does seem like the left side of the valve has no pressure with the cartage removed. I do live in the desert and the house is super hot when nobodys home. Any ideas, shower is not really used much.
Could the house temp cause the cold side water to come out hot closing the vavle?
Hey Tim, great video! I had a question. Even after adjusting the temp ring in the delta valve, my hot water isn’t as warm as I’d like. Is there anything I can do to adjust the hot water temp to get warmer? Thanks!
great video
Thank you. Confirmed I was right. Big help.

Hey Tim. I just installed o e of the delta mixer and the water doesn't come out but if I remove the cartridge with the water running and install it with the water running it stays on and can't be turned off. The line isn't pressured And there's no hot water connected on the line either

Thanks for the tip 👍👍
For those asking about the warranty this product has and able to get one free...this video is about teaching and learning how to for those with no warranty. I'm sure if there's a warranty the consumer is well aware of it
Great video Tim
Hey man thanks so much
Tim I just changed my rubber washers and springs like you just said and it's still dripping at the same rate it was before. I get hot and cold water and plenty of pressure. What else could it be? Should I just replace the cartridge at this point?
What do you recommend for lubricating the internal metal valve on the delta P cartridge? Just regular plumbers grease or something else.
