- Begging is one of the most serious social-economic issues concerning developing countries, particularly India. The corona virus pandemic saw a rapid increase in the numbers of people turning to beg, with problems such as the supply of food, demand for food, unemployment, Inflation, poverty and price rise.
The difficulties and challenges of beggary have not been a subject for an in-depth scientific inquiry, and the magnitude of worrying issues it advances as a consequence is less understood in all its dimensions. Things have only gotten worse post the lockdown.
Through this news feature, TNT-The Northeast Today wishes to highlight one of the major social issue - Begging in Meghalaya's Shillong.

where are these people coming from..?from different states of india just for begging what about thier relatives or is it they were brought by the people who have vested interest by sending several beggers to different places later on midnight these begger brought the money that they collected to them...I'm concerned because that's what i have heard from them telling each other while I'm on the road..the state police department should do some serious investigation..

We don't have khasi beggers in Meghalaya. All these are migrants, still we show them love... No matter how poor but people in Meghalaya never begs.
These children will give the money they begged all day to their boss.
They need to stop producing kids when you kno you yourself are poor
They migrate to Meghalaya only to beg n our Khasi people some r very poor they cannot even get to eat food twice a day but they work in the morning n eat in the evening im proud of my khasi people Jesus blss our people n our state Meghalaya
