YES! In recent days, more POC are being accepted and celebrated in the world of ballet/ dance, though not nearly enough (and many are women and we need more men!)! It's so wonderful to see more Black/ Asian/ Latin, etc. dancers in the spotlight finally, even though there's still SO much more companies should and could (easily) be doing!!! How many amazingly talented non- white dancers have been overlooked in the course of history due to systemic racism and prejudice?? Some of the best dancers in historical and contemporary times probably never got a chance, or even KNEW they had talent because of this! The art suffers for it IMMENSELY. I just had the privilege of going to see The Sleeping Beauty at the Kennedy Center in DC. The night I went (May 6, 2023) the prima ballerina was an INSANELY talented Asian woman, Eun Won Lee, who was an absolute joy to watch. But I couldn't stop watching one of the other principals, who was a Black woman who had near-perfect technique and wonderful (physical/ emotive) expression. She was my favorite! (Her name is Ashley Murphy- Wilson) And the LEAD male dancer was a Cuban man, Gian Carlo Perez!!! Sooooo talented and such a joy to watch!! He made the whole second half just OUTSTANDING! I was actually shocked that they cast him( because he is dark-skinned. He completely deserved it because of his talent!, but I've recently learned that The Washington Ballet is one of the most diverse ballet companies in the U.S.... which, actually isn't saying much, unfortunately. It's great that TWB is trying to cultivate a more diverse group of dancers, as quite a few of them were POC! They really are trying...But it's just not enough by a long shot!! We need companies that consider talent, professionalism, and dedication ALONE, not skin color or ethnicity(as a way to weed OUT dancers, I mean)!!! Then we'll start to see dance in a whole new way! (Also, check out Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre! The company has been showcasing African American/ Black dance and dancers for years now, and it's a thing of beauty!) Sorry for the long post, I'm just really passionate about this topic! ✌️🩷🩰

@Sarah Basto Maybe you have never taken dance, but jumps are some of the most exhausting and energy-consuming moves a person can do! You have to keep your core tight, your back straight, your toes pointed, and keep your carriage from jostling when you land. It's not "just a few jumps". It's athleticism combined with art. It's far from easy.

I remember being in intermediate ballet and this one guy was so amazing id forget what i was doing to watch him. A mans athletic ability in ballet is very unique.😊
I was a cheerleader and a cheer coach for years. The young man on the left definitely looks like he has a cheer background. They are both so talented. It takes a lot to get your jumps that high and that controlled. Wish I had both of them on my cheer team.
The taller guy just like he is have no problems at all, just floating, enjoying dancing &very amazing watching that. The other man looks amazing, loves dancing, wants to win the other man & will never give up. Beautiful 🎉
