Nobody brings intensity to a role like Anthony Hopkins does, his presence as the king of Asgard truly feels like a legendary king, like appearance, and feeling
Couldn’t have casted Odin any better! Sir Anthony Hopkins killed the role! Even in only 3 Marvel movies his presence was appreciated.
Casting Sir Anthony Hopkins was a great choice but marvel did the dirty on Odin and the Asgardians.
1 . First they limited them to five thousands
2. They made Odin weak, so weak. In the comics he headbutted Galactus into unconsciousness.
3. In the comics it was stated that if Odin and Galactus fought they combined power would destroy the universe so they fought with telekinetic and telepathy.
In the MCU it is more the weapons that have power.

In the comics these are some of Odin's powers which stem from the Odin Force. The Odinforce is a magical energy source that Odin can tap into to enhance his already formidable abilities. It grants him even greater power and control over magical forces
1. Superhuman Strength: Odin possesses incredible physical strength, allowing him to go toe-to-toe with some of the strongest beings in the Marvel Universe.
2. Superhuman Durability: Odin's body is extremely durable, making him resistant to injury and harm.
3. Longevity: As the All-Father of Asgard, Odin has an extended lifespan and is immune to the effects of ageing.
4. Energy Manipulation: Odin can manipulate and control vast amounts of mystical energy. He often channels this energy into powerful blasts, force fields, or other magical effects.
5. Teleportation: Odin can teleport across vast distances, both within and between dimensions.
6. Reality Warping: Odin has reality-warping abilities, enabling him to manipulate and alter reality to a certain extent, and it said that it sometimes on a universal scale.
Telepathy: Odin possesses strong telepathic abilities, allowing him to communicate with others mentally and probe the thoughts of those around him.
Mystical Knowledge: Odin is highly knowledgeable in magic and mysticism. He has access to a vast array of magical spells and rituals.
Control over Asgardian Forces: As the ruler of Asgard, Odin has control over the Asgardian armies, including the formidable Valkyries.
Now lets look at his feats in the MCU

1. Superstrength - saw no display of Superstrength
2. Superhuman Durability - saw no instance of that since he lost an eye in battle. In the comics he sacrificed an eye to gain knowledge
3. Immune to ageing, well that not true since Asgardian live only for five thousands years. The king of the Frost Giant also told him that he looks weary and that was after a thousand years.
4. Energy Manipulation: Where? only his staff was able to project energy not Odin himself. In the comics he can project blasts from his hands that can shatter a planet.
5. Teleportation: Where? Saw no display of teleportation. The only way he was able to teleport was using the bridge.
6/ Reality Warping: Saw no reality warping
7. Telepathy: Saw no Telepathy
8: Mystical Knowledge: In the comics Odin is immune to magic at least to Asgardian magic. The Enchantress once said that she couldn't use magic against Odin because he was immune to magic, yet in the film Loki stole his powers and trapped him in some kind of spell on Earth.
9: Yes, this one was kind of displayed in the movie since he was able to strip Thor of his powers.

There's a reason why most of this is clips from the first movie. Because that was when an actual good director who understood the source material made these movies. It's too bad we never got to see Kenneth Branagh's take on Ragnarok, Instead, we got Mr. ''I'll ruin your mythos'' making a Space Balls sequel while wearing a rotting skin of a Thor movie.
And there’s the fundamental misunderstanding on full display.
Odin only has 2 scenes in Ragnarok, but in just those 2 scenes, has the most poignant displays of wisdom and introspection out of any of the movies.
And it’s not directors that decide the things you seem to have qualms with. It’s the writers.
Educate yourself, both in literature and how movies are made.

2. Odin has two scenes in Ragnajoke, and both of those scenes are poorly written expository dialogue. First explains who is Hela, the second is Odin telling Thor ''you've got the touch, you've got the power''. That's not wisdom; that's bad lazy writing. Compare that to the superb writing of Odin in the first movie, where he did not just tell Thor what wisdom he has to obtain, but had him figure it out by himself, by stripping him of his godhood and live a mortal life, only to lose his mortal life to earn back his immortal one. That's true wisdom; that only when you have nothing you can learn to appreciate having everything.
3. Taika had all free reign to cast his friends and bed buddies (Tessa Thompson), have the most awful improve dialogue imaginable, self-insert himself as the character nobody asked for, but couldn't find a better way to utilize Odin? Or not kill off The Warriors Three and ignore Sif's existence outside of that stupid theater play? I think you're coping, silly Taika fanboy. Your favorite so-called director is just bad at his job; admit it.

4. Oh, you want to talk about literature? Explain to me how Thor can repeatedly use the expression ''oh, my god'' when it grammatically makes no sense for him to use? Did you or Taika not read books on how character writing goes? That their dialogue should reflect where they come from and not just be random collection of sentences that any other person could say? And speaking of filmmaking, care to explain to me what is verisimilitude and why Thor Ragnajoke completely butchers it?
Go back and cry on Taika's lap. Maybe he'll tell you some horrid joke that will make you laugh.

Eh, I think Ragnarok was a good movie but it would have been great to return to serious Thor in later movies. Marvel fell into the "constant family humour" trap.

I just thought it odd how Asgardian soldiers fight and die using regular swords and shields and then the king comes and with a single swipe wipes out all the enemies. At some point you'd think the king would figure it's a better idea to upgrade their weapons?

The movies failed in a simple basic premise of the comics. Odin possessed the odinforce, which, according to the cojics was a combining of odins power and that of his 2 brothers eons ago. This force was to be passed to his successor on his death. Thor should have inherited that power. But, i understand the need to deviate from the comics to insure the kovie story lines are maintained

THey could have made so many more fantastic Thor movies - I can't believe they made that last POS Thor movie. I would love one the Avengers in Asgard with Tony making the uru armor. Would love one with the Karnilla. They royally f'd Zeus because those could have been great and Hercules movies could be fun. I'm not sure why Disney went scorched earth on their best stuff - OK killing Natalie Portman was a good thing.
