The original lyrics are better because it’s “you’ve been scared to say” and they’re now voicing it. The new lyrics are contradictory because it’s “that you’re afraid to say” and then they say it.
I agree. I don’t even remember who suggested the change but I’m annoyed.
Apparently my unpopular opinion is not so unpopular
More than that the new lyric screws up the tense mid-phrase! “Something up till now”: past or present perfect. “You’re afraid”: present tense. It’s driving me insane 😂
Original lyric is better. I agree as well 🙂!
FACTS! No you got a big point
'You've been scared to say' has a nice, alliterative smoothness to it, 👍in addition to the tense issue someone else mentioned above.
thank you Bianca for bringing this to attention, every time I sing the old one automatically and get annoyed that it's been changed 😂 (also to the other commentors pointing out how gramatically the new one doesn't make sense, didn't even think about that)
i agree with Bianca. "You’ve been scared to say" makes more sense then “that ur afraid to say"
im with bianca i prefered to old one
Thank youuu!! Let’s change it
@@biancaprandin3525 no way the actual Bianca I am honoured 😊
@@biancaprandin3525 aaaah hi
same
@@biancaprandin3525you're not alone - this is the first time I heard it and I threw my phone across my bed. I'm in the US and I sing this song to myself often. I was not prepared for the lyric change and didn't think he'd actually do it!
"Afraid" just doesn't make sense grammatically right? "something up till now that you're afraid to say" that doesn't ring right to me.
No, it does.
"Something up till now that you're afraid to say."
A teacher would dock you points for not saying "You've been scared to say." but that's pointless.
Because then you're sentence is "Something up till now that you've been scared to say." basically sets the whole sentence consistently in the past tense.
Which LOOKS good in a school? But there is no grammatical rule that your whole sentence has to refer to the past tense.
Only the subject in question has to be referenced to the past tense.
The subject being your unpopular opinion.
“It sounded like a Reading situation to me” he’s so funny honestly, I’d love to see him in more comedies 😭😂
6:09 Yes Bianca! 💯 agree! Never sounded right after the change!
The old jingle is the better one. It is not just a switch from 'scared' to 'afraid' but there is a tense change too that doesn't make sense:
"Something up to now that you've been scared to say"
"Something up to now that you're afraid to say"
In the new version it starts in past tense and then switches to present tense and that makes no sense at all.
Yes! Ive been saying this since he changed it! Dua lipa was wrong 😂
💯
THANK YOU
"Afraid to say" has a slight rhyming feel to it. "Scared to say" just sounds put together.
The old makes more sense that you always wanted to say it but didn't until now. The new one means you don't want to say it now but you will anyway; but they do want to say it because thats why they called in.
Everyone say thank you Bianca for taking one for the team! Completely agree with her, the old tune is better
❤
I agree with Bianca about the lyrics, but it's not really about "afraid" vs "scared" for me, but rather about the grammatical switch from "you've been" to "you're", which doesn't make sense with "up till now". This English teacher votes to switch back!
"this is. This is not true" Tha delivery, Finn😂😂😂😂
the original lyrics are gramatically correct therefore the better option, “something up til now that you’ve been scared to say” meaning you were afraid to say until this moment rather than “something up til now that you’re afraid to say” meaning that you are in the moment still afraid to say said thing
I vote to go back to "scared to say." I agree that the change is a bit off-putting when you're so used to the original lyrics. It made my brain pause with confusion lol 😂😅
I like "scared to say" better, but I completely understand just doing whatever Dua Lipa wants.
💯 agree on the lyric change. "Scared to say" is way better.
Penne is for tomato sauces. They fill up with filling. The boring ones are spaghetti and linguine and are for creamy sauces.
Totally with you on that!!! It's also killer with ground beaf and tomato sauces...
@@buckycore yup. Apparently it’s the reason for the shapes. Probably just a chef trying to be fancy and making up a nice story in reality. Eat what you like is best. Italians don’t even have garlic bread with pasta or cappuccino after 11. And pineapple on pizza is a cardinal sin. 😂
The old lyrics actually fit within the original phrasing of the jingle. When people write songs often songwriters try to replace wording but when you write for the melody it sounds better the with the naturally fit words. Also you’re not afraid to say it?
I love his reactions to the British accents lol
'Afraid to say' will always scan better for musicians, but to me the whole point of the original them tune was its clunky nature. It surprised you and that's what made it funny when people attempted to sing along.
scared flows better than afraid. bianca is 100% right
❤
Finn is soo funny & cute I love him so much my love❤❤❤❤
As a brit I feel like finn gets on with british people so well , probably because he's Canadian haha
For the entire video I had the same ick with „afraid”
I'm with Bianca. I still sing "scared to say".
I agree with Bianca
the fact that the first thing i noticed when watching this video was the lyric change 😭
Scared sounds better imo
“Up till now that YOU’RE afraid to say” screws up the tense completely!! Something up till now refers to the present perfect, and throwing in a plain old present tense mid-phrase is just wrong 😤
Bring back 'scared to say'!!!!!!!!
BBC Radio 1 - listen to the comments below! It's definitely not the afraid vs scared, it's the grammatical tense you've changed (see many thoughts below) Other than that, ZERO notes. Love Greg and this show - just get those lyrics fixed haha
Bianca is absolutely right! Change it back to the original!
until NOW that you've BEEN scared to say makes sense > until now that you're afraid to say doesn't make sense.
afraid is a nicer sounding word than scared, but scared sounds rougher, zaggardy and more anxious like actual fear. I vote scared.
As a huge comedy fan, I’m so glad this kid has gotten far better in doing his bits. I’ve been waiting for him to finally get his timing correct, for his jokes to finally land cause he’s always cracking jokes every interview he’s in!! I see it, Finn!!!!!! The potential!!!! I’m so happy! I hope he practices his comedy muscles more and more
‘oh, sure…. thom yorke’ had me cracking up😭 ‘sounds like a Reading… situation’ LMFAOO
I agree on the room temp drinks. You can taste flavors from the drink
5:54 idk 🤷🏾♂️ 😂
0:36 This honestly made me say : "What the FUCK did you just say, you actual NATZEE?!"
Silent night Holy night, Nice! I have to agree with Finn. Afraid dose flow better with the intro!!!
Wdym you don’t like penne, penne is the best pasta shape, the sauce goes inside and it’s easy to put a lot of pasta on a fork😭
No offense to frankie but if finn wolfhard asked me for my social security number I would make one up for him
I think there should be a YT channel just for the unpopular opinoin, I'm from Brazil and I can't listen to it on the radio due to the time of day and I'd like to see more of that.
0:48 If It's Summer Cold Drinks Are The Way To Go, Winter? Warm And Not Too Hot.
Real ale is the best. Always serve at room temp.
Old lyrics by far.
You're asking the guest to tell you something they've been scared to say out loud until now.
Scared to say was so much better. . .
I think we all prefer ' you've been scared to say.'
The kid James needs to revert back to using "scared to say"
I stand with Bianca
Finn Wolfhard gives such Jeff Goldblum vibes.
scared is better 🙂
4:32 🤭
"More superior"? Isn't that a pleonasm?
The first caller could have mentioned about the capability to taste drinks in room temperature better. I would still go for ice cold fyi
I’m the same way. The only thing I really like cold is milk.
Я не знаю что они говорят но у них такие красивые голоса 🧖♀️ Я не могу... Кстати вы наверняка смотрите перевод текста, если что это текст на Русском 😘и кстати мы Русские НЕ агрессивны! 🤓 кстати Я только могу сказать на вашем языке только это: Hello I'm Dora I from is Russian. ❤ у нас Расспрастанëные слова на вашем языке это только : Okey, Boom,Help. 🎉
I actually like the new way better. The new way flows better in my opinion. I agree with Finn.
SIIIIILLLENT NIGHT HOOOLLLY NIGHT
I haven't seen an Unpopular Opinion in years. I thought something seemed different with the lyric.
"More superior"? Jesus
I agree the old lyric was better and the new one does give me the ick.
LADIES WHERE IS THE SCENE WHERE HE SAYS RAVIOLI
How does he know about Reading? 😅
scared to say just sounds better
I high key want Fin as my baby daddy.
It wasn't Dua Lipa that changed the lyric to the theme song, it was Stormzy. He even made a joke about suing you for writing the new lyric.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
He looks like me
spaghetti is the most boring pasta
Even milkshake is better room temperature
yh, no, Bianca gets it
Bianca's right, afraid to say is awful.
Boring questions
❤❤❤😍😍
Bring back the old lyricsss!!! Even though I am not a native English speaker (I am from Chile) , I don’t like the new version 😢, it is just NOT IT 😬
Old jingle better 100%
Hi nace to mett You 🎉
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo The old one IS BETTER.
❤❤❤❤❤finn
I stand with Bianca
