Last time when I was emotionally connected to a war movie was with Border. Now, through this Vicky's portrayal of Sam, it generates similar emotional connect. He is flawless in real Sam's character. Real life Sam was real gem from Indian armed forces.
I would suggest to watch interview of original Sam Bahadur by his own grandson. It is must watch. Do watch it. You will definitely love it. He is so charismatic.

Fatima acted as the director deems fit. From the few shots I thought she conveyed the essence and soul of Mrs G and not merely imitating her. Megna the director decides what she wants to convey and how much she wants to take from real. Even makeup manipulation was decided as against using prosthetics!!
