The best part of this scene is that Perona is so shocked by this she actually starts trying to cheer him up.
and clip didint show it
How usopp said i'm always negative and perona said HEEEEEEEE
"Life isn't that bad," with a thumbs up, sent me to a different planet.
That was her part of acting
She needs him to feel good about himself so her powers can work on him.
I do appreciate the fact that even though Perona is a villain and embraces that label, deep down she is naturally a very helpful person. Her immediate response to finding out that Usopp is so naturally negative that he is literally immune to her power, which makes people say they want to die, is to try cheering him up. When she finds an injured Zoro she not only bandages him up, but she also takes it upon herself to act as his guide when she sees how utterly hopeless he is navigating the castle. When Mihawk says goodbye, she breaks down into tears.
That's also something I liked about her; her rather cavalier attitude when talking to people far stronger than her. Sure, she saw Moria as a friend, it's not surprising that she'd speak her mind to him. But Kuma? Mihawk?
She wanted to cheer ussop up to make him feel even more negative
@@Sebastian-ep6nw She was tearing up when she realized that he was always negative. Plus she does eventually snap out of her cheers, remembering that he was her enemy. To me, that says that her actions were sincere and instinctive, not duplicitous.
Moria basically raised her so she sees him like a father, kuma and mihawk are warlords so maybe she didn't think they would try to harm her as a subordinate of a fellow warlord
I think that’s a reason mihawk likes her. That’s always been my interpretation plus I like to think Mihawk just likes her Pastel Goth style lol
Sorry, but you somewhat overestimated and misconstrued Persona's kindness. What we see above is not an example of innate goodness. The things she does, primarily in this arc are merely intended to assist her in conflict as an antagonist. Don't misinterpret a character's cleverness for sympathy and innate benevolence; which is unanimously not the case since most of the motives behind Persona's actions are indicative of shifting the tides of battle in her favor. Much akin to most One Piece characters, where they commit acts of goodwill just to steer the plot along. In layman's terms, she is only helpful based on the conditions set by the author. As opposed to being naturally obliging. Above all else, the fact is Persona is an obvious a bootlicker in the presence of authority. She simply lacks self-control and has a propensity to submit to powerful figures.
*Usopp:* “That’s my secret, Cap. I’m always negative.”
Usopp= negative hulk

Always love this moment because he’s basically like “You can’t hurt me no more cuz I’m already depressed”
Usopp reminds me a bit of Rimmer from Red Dwarf; "You can't frighten me, I'm a coward! I'm always scared!"
This is cap because the only signs of Ussop's "depression" before this episode are his disappointment that he isn't strong and brave.
I love how this is Ussop "Because I'm made of rubber" moment, just like Luffy and Enel at Skypea
"Because I'm made of depression"
damn daniel
ür ür ür ür ür ür ür ür
I love these moments when an opponent has an arguably OP power but by pure chance, one of the straw hats either have a perfect counter or are naturally immune leading to the opponent's disbelief reaction.
It only happened twice but dmn they're good
Oda wrote from the end to the beginning, knowing how he wanted it to end from day 1, adding new characters day by day to thicken the story and overall take us for this joyous ride with him, he knows exactly how he wants to write every encounter even before the pen meets paper
@@PcSurge then explain the supernovas in Sabaody and Shanks showing up at the end of the war? Because he didn't plan for those to happen.
You are talking about Enel right
@@PcSurge Do people seriously make ideas while writing though
So, on a daily basis, Ussop felt the kind of deep, existential depression that would put anyone else out of commission, yet still has enough drive to get up and keep moving, every single day? The willpower! The endurance! The strength!
Captain Ussop sure is amazing~!
Agree, people always comment how Luffy manages to defeat opponents stronger than him from time to time but in Ussop's case almost all of his opponents outmatch him yet he wins.
Ussop's dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea. He just doesn't understand that the fact he overcomes his fears to fight these battles makes him VERY brave.
oooooh~ @@Roboticus_Prime_RC!!!
I didn't even think about that! He's the ONLY member of the Strawhats to have ALREADY achieved his dream!!!
i bet if usopp learns haki, his will can become so strong, that even yassop gets scared

This was one of the times Usopp truly shined! He says that he is negative, but it looks to me that his mind or willpower was stronger then Perona’s negativity.
Seriously, Ussop is the coward we all wish we could be. Always negative, always scared, yet always there for his crew no matter what.

The fact he's able to carry on dispite how negative he can be shows a lot courage on his part.
Usopp telling Perona that he is immune to her powers because he is an extremely negative person with immense pride and her shocked and horrified reaction had me laughing like crazy the first time I saw. Truly one of the most amazing hilarious moments in the arc 😂
Was this comment written by an A.I bot?
Only topped by Luffy re-burying that zombie.
Usopp always gets the foes with Broken abilities that only HE can safely take down.
Perona, Sugar, that one lady from Film Gold.
Crazy how Eren Solos the city level verse
why are all of them just women with broken devil fruits 😂

He couldn't fight Sugar safely... he just got lucky that Sugar decided to feed him that grape instead of just turning him into another toy.
@@DarkEinherjarngl the sugar fight did seem a lot more forced than the Perona fight. Him beating Perona felt like a genuinely earned victory. Sugar was kinda just plot.

So generous of Go D. Usopp to let Luffy be the one to take down Kaido. We all know that if he fought Kaido himself, the raid wouldn't be as dragged out as much as it currently is.

Ussop: I've always been negative
Me: same here Ussop same here
Usopp really came in clutch this season
I love how the power he has over perona and the only reason he can beat her is just because hes depressed. Its kinda sad the more you think about it. At this point he thinks hes so much of a burden on the crew that peronas power of making you want to die doesnt effect him because he already feels like that anyways. Damn ive ruined my own mood
It's more like he's so used to shouldering on through depression that pushing through it is just second nature to him.
I wasn't sure whether to laugh cause her power is useless against Usopp or sad that he's been depressed despite looking like a happy guy 😂😞
Ussop's bravery lets him push through!
The other characters have confidence because of their raw power. Ussop doesn't have the power, but he's still there. That is great bravery.
And also because his dad left him and his dying mother for years without even checking up , like bro had to become an orphan lier even though his dad was alive all because his dad is a deadbeat 💀 .
Perona's face is ART! 😂😂😂😂

Usopp: *there's nowhere to go at rock bottom*
What a hilarious premise 😂
The fact that this is Usopp's version of Enel always gets me
This is one of the best scenes of the entire series. I remember it so well when the episode came out.
Perona: Why won't you just die?!
Go D. Usopp: *Nanodepressions, girl*
Usopp is just like me fr
Honestly it does remind me why I still give the pre-time skip arcs a higher rating. Moments like this just land hilariously well.
Hey in post time skip we have the hilarious moment of Ussop knocking down Sugar by making the funniest face ever and then using observation haki to take her down a second time.
I've been binge watching One Piece for the first time, and am currently in the middle of Dressrosa. I've always seen people complain about this, but for me post-time skip has been having about the same amount of humour, and is still full of very funny moments.
The first time Usopp's negative personality came in handy. It's a scene that never gets old.
Honestly, the Usopp/Perona fight was probably one of the best fights in the entire show, simply because the entire fight was the two of them trying to gain the upper hand by messing with the other's head. Heck, at the end Usopp wins because Perona bought the fact that the hammer he hit her with really was as heavy as advertised.
Perona: why my attacks aren't working?!
Usopp: All I have are negative thoughts
I like what Perona and her minions say after this "THINGS WILL GET BETTER FOR YOU!!!'
Perona is the MVP of thriller bark she's such a fun and iconic character and hilarious to boost
Her voice actress is wonderful I love how she quickly switches between low and high voices
This is exactly the same nature in Luffy’s fight against Enel, his natural enemy
Imagine having depression so powerful that it's a superpower.
Luffy vs Oars/Moria
To all the commenters out there sad that Ussop is depressed, don't be! My man is out here not just living with his depression but THRIVING with it.
Bro was really like, "Yeah, I'm depressed. What? You think that's gonna stop me? Y'all ain't seen nothing yet."
As someone who lives with depression, I aspire to reach Ussop's peak level of acceptance of, and power over, his mental illness. Dude lives with depression but is still out here achieving his dreams. Honesty, goals.
Yeah , it's so damn true 😂 .
Usopp: that's my secret, Captain..... im always negative(let's out a banshee wail of sadness)
Usopp's battles are always so fun to watch cuz he wins with just his brains and by being himself. He always wanted to become a brave man of the sea, but he's always been that, he just lacks a lot of self-confidence for him to see that.
You know Usopp's going to lay the beatdown when his opponent makes that face
Ain't no way ma boi usoop really said that😔 1:08
Negative?
I know its been a year but he means nega-tive@@SpcyToast
It's the same reason why Shaggy from Scooby Doo is an effective Wildcard. They pull through when it counts by failing upwards. And occasionally, unearth some Ultra Instinct deep inside them.
So, how did you defeat Perona?
Captain Usopp: Well I was so depressed her depressed ghosts became even more depressed. Then she also became depressed. It was really depressing.
Love Thriller Bark. I wish I had the time to rewatch the entire 1000+ eps again
Re watching it with my brother and it’s the best thing, so much better once you see all the foreshadowing and knowing what oda means when he adds in little clues
Usopp felt so uselees in water seven and was afraid of being left behind, the he listened to Sanji and realized his worth and how much the crew needed him, this moment is a perfect example of him doing what others can't
“I JUST HAVE A NEGATIVE PERSONALITY”
Had me dying first time I watched it
How to counter Perona:
1. Have Depression
2. That's it.
God this fight was so good. The finale being him freaking her out so bad she faints feels so victorious after him being so scared during the earlier part of the arc.
Perona: "Good things will happen to you!"
Usopp: "Shut up!"
Whenever there’s a troublesome Devil Fruit eater, leave it to Usopp to defeat them: Perona, Baccarat, Sugar)
Ah, the legendary battle between Usopp and Perona, where the rubber-nosed warrior showcased his unique fighting prowess by giving a ghost girl the scare of her afterlife! It was a sight to behold, as Usopp fearlessly swung his slingshot, leaving Perona's spooky army of ghosts in a state of shock (pun intended). Little did we know that Usopp was secretly born with a Negative sign permanently affixed to his being, rendering Perona's powers useless against him. It was an epic clash of positivity versus negativity, and Usopp emerged victorious, proving that even in the realm of spirits, he can give them a run for their ectoplasmic money! Those were indeed good times, my friend, filled with laughter, excitement, and a healthy dose of disbelief.
Thank you.
"You fool! I'm too depressed for you to depress me!"
This is right after the Merry incident which is sadder lol
The perfect counter to Perona’s devil fruit is literally just self doubt, a pinch of salt, and a hint of depression.
I love the Eneru face so much
"You wanted to know my secret? I'm always -angry- negative!!"

Reminds me of Luffy when Boa Hancock trying her Mero mero on him. "Why didn't it work?!"
Cause Luffy is in fact innocent good boy with no dirty thoughts.
One of all time one piece classics.
1:13 That look its always funny every time I see it.
that moment more epic then all of the past timeskip
Remember, Ussop is voices by the same for as Ranma Saotome, who had actually learned a technique that turns negative emotions into a powerful energy blast (though since it didn't fit his personality, he used it as inspiration to create a technique that turns confidence into a blast instead).
This scene is up there when usopp ran faster than vivi’s bird during alabasta in terms of funny
1:11 The Surprised Enel Face. 😮😮😮
Enel: finally a worthy opponent our battle will be legendary
it shows how brave really usopp is, thespite him allwayes thinking negatifly, his still folowinig luffy and risk his live fr his dreames, despite him knowing evry bad part of him selfe hist still going forward,
One of my favorite pre timeskip fights, honestly
Thank you for being honest.
So far , Luffy and Usopp are the only ones who had their opponents pop their eyes out in disbelief, knowing that they have finally found their natural enemy.
Bro is always scared, but yet still fights for his friends. That's true strength.
God Ussop. Put some respect on his name 😤
This entire arc was fun and hilarious
People who can fight without ever doubting themselves are amazing.
But people who can fight while CONSTANTLY doubting themselves are a different kind of amazing.
“That’s my secret Perona, I’m always depressed”
One off the best Usopp fights in the whole series.
"my name is CAPTAIN USOPP"
autocorrection: more like god captain usopp
Anybody else catch Usopp looking like Whitebeard when he yelled the one piece is real lol
Man, Perona is one of my favorite characters, I don't know why is she so cute to me.
1:13 why it's reminded me of Enel against luffy 🤣?!
How Usopp defeats Perona is easily in my top 3 greatest moments in all of One Piece.
I honestly enjoy how in the early seasons before the two years that two StrawHats had a strength to an attack type
Luffy - Electricity
Ussop - Distress Immune (A comatose against it)

Usopp has to legit be Oda’s favorite straw hat.
Usopp is the most relatable person in one piece
Usopp:"I'm always negative"

This moment proved Usoop is one of the bravest characters in one piece
Bravery without fear is not bravery
Usopp ... "THE NEGATIVE HERO"!😂😂😂😂😂
