    I was born in Seoul to a young, single mother who was very young; 14-16 years old I've been told. I was adopted when I was 6 months old and came to America with my current family. I am now a 19 year old college student. After watching this, I can't help but feel somber knowing that I have a mother and father out there somewhere and possibly brothers and sisters too. Congratulations man, I literally cried after watching.

      I was initially surprised how different they looked, but if you look closely, the boys' head shape is different. Their faces are identical. Same eyes, nose and mouth! The fact that they share genetically identical brains is pretty amazing.

      +Aria MISSY Learn French and save your amazement.. It's Latin, except it's Celtic Latin. To be honest. Latin is very similar to Celtic. Have you ever heard of Gaul? Yeah it's a real place. Kind of like Israel from the Bible and everyone knows all about the Bible now. Hey! Gaul is Europe! Hello! Wake up idiotos! Spanish and French and Italian are proximate to one another. Next to each other in physicality, not even separated by ocean from America. Iceland (a specific person 4got the name. He was supposed to stop being pagan but he wasn't moved to NOT write down the Eddas of Norse Mythology) is next to Inuktitut Greenland and Greenland is as close to Canada as Iceland is to Greenland, except it's bigger. And Sarah Palin says she can see Russia from her house. Maybe if you realized that we're all human beings youd fuck the shut up. Also, immigrants are all around you and you don't give a fuck about the sisters or them or the world so bye globe denying zombie plagued by not seeing [the value of] history. Maybe you should suck on the fact that you don't understand KPOP, which I do. HA!

      Yeah it's funny how French people have French accents and Americans have American accents 😜 I personally find it quite sad rather than cool, that twins were split up. Twins should not be split apart, especially identical twins

    My heart broke when he said he couldn't convey the same love back to his mom. It's very honest and not something mos people think about. I'm just thinking about his mom who knows him so deeply like only a mother would but he doesn't know her. Very interesting. Thank you for sharing

    • @autumnzerose
      @autumnzerose 5 років тому +139

      Annelies Wallace when you’re a mother your kid will always be your kid and you feel that deep connection. It’s not something you can really explain other than feeling deeply. Anele’s not talking about knowing him as an individual- if that makes sense? Idk I’m also kinda bad at explaining.

    • @autumnzerose
      @autumnzerose 5 років тому +48

      queenbeethatme100 👀 I never said she knew him deeply? There’s a connection between mother & child that can’t be explained. Often it’s the mother who feels this connection tho. I’m not romanticizing anything. It’s called instinct. We all have it in some way, shape or form.
      (I was trying to help out the original commenter explain what she meant, cause I thought I understood what she was trying to say... good lord, don’t attack me)

When she looked her up she realized that she was also adopted and had the same birthday so she messagd her and they found out they were twins. It's a pretty touching story

      That’s how it is with my grandma she Korean but she also grew up in Hong Kong so usually she speaks more Cantonese then Korean making is more hard for me to understand her sometimes because she always switches between both fluently so usually I just answer her in English or Korean because I don’t know much Cantonese that why I always look to my grandpa to translate for me sometimes 😭😭🙏 ps I’m half Korean and Mexican and my family speak about five different languages in our home so body language is key aka hand signals 😂🙏😭

      Their DNA analysis revealed that they are identical twins; it could be the high dairy in American diets causing indigestion, as most Koreans are lactose intolerant... they could consume dairy with kimchi, which has Lactobacillus bacteria that breaks down lactose, but otherwise, most Koreans cannot digest dairy. It is very likely that he had a lot of dairy in the American diet without kimchi...

    Their mannerisms are so different because they hail from different places. Like how Dan's first instinct was to shake hands with the twin expert, but his brother's instinct was to immediately bow. It's cool to see that where you grow up and who you grow up around can have such a huge effect on who you are as a person.

    It's so interesting to see this process, to be honest. I have an older cousin who's adopted from South Korea too. In Norway his name is Jon-Are, which is a really common name. It didn't hit me until we got the thank you-card from his daughter's christening that it was actually spelled Joon-Are. My uncle and aunt had taken half his Korean name and put it together with half a Norwegian one. I think it's really nice, because it's a way of combining the two, reminding him of his heritage as well as saying that he's also Norwegian, he really is.

    My Korean mother abandoned me at night at a busy train station when I was 2 years old. I was adopted by an very nice American family. I lived in Japan, Philippines, and went to Texas for college. I joined the army and rode in helicopters and tanks. I retired from the army and wrote a cookbook and a PTSD healing book to stay busy.
    Now that I am retired and getting older, I think about my brothers in Korea and how I would like to meet them. I assume we will look similar. However, I have no idea how to conduct the search to find my brothers. I won’t get my hope up, so I won’t be disappointed because I don’t think I will be successful in this endeavor. Sometimes somethings are just not destined to come true.

      @tom - I agree with the other poster. Start searching. If you're retired, your bio parents may not be alive anymore (or they may be very old, so may not have much time). You may also have bio siblings. Maybe do a DNA test with "23 and Me" and "Ancestry". If you watch Part 1 of this series, Dan also mentioned an organization in the USA which helped him in his search. Good luck!

    I loved best the picture of him with his biological other. Would've really loved to have seen them interact. I feel so bad for the mother - coming out of a medical issue to find out one of her sons was put up for adoption. Never getting to say good-bye or make that choice. I understand there were issues and it just turned out that way. But I still feel so bad for her. Being a mother myself - the thought of experiencing that just sounds so heartbreaking

      My guess is that having twins was unexpected and the family couldn't handle the financial strain of two children like they could one. Instead of not being able to provide for two kids, they decided to be able to provide for one.

    • @aleesha5739
      @aleesha5739 8 років тому +195

      It explains in part one that the family was having a very difficult time financially. Also, Dan and his twin were born in 1985 which was before universal health care coverage was achieved in 1988. With existing financial hardships, one older child, a mother with serious health issues after giving birth and two premature babies it's understandable why the father made such a difficult decision.

      1hourOfLove most adoptees' biological parents are in extremely difficult situations, not just giving them away because they dont care.
      Even if your childhood sucked, you should rethink of having kids to share and relive a childhood with them thats better than ever before. You can heal that way too in the process..

      If you think about it, they were probably prepared for one kid but they just couldn't have a second baby at the same time and give the same care. People don't always plan to have kids, it's crazy to expect that they're suddenly able to support and look after a new human being

    Thank you for sharing your story. I'm korean and adoption is a huge taboo. So many Koreans never get a chance to reconnect with their roots. I have a best friend who also found out she had a twin that she was separated from at birth through adoption. The family kept her twin just like your story. This shows hope for those of us who want to connect with our biological families. It takes so much courage and strength. How beautiful.

    In the past 24 hours I have watched these clips several times. Although I am not adopted, I just loved this story and cried with happiness... I truly felt sad when his birth mom couldn't let him go and kept touchinghis face. What a beautiful story. I would love to adopt. It also made me sad and a bit angry that people won't adopt just because they aren't the same ethnicity. The lady said so at the orphanage that it's declining. Perhaps something could be done for more exposure. God bless the Matthews family.

      I think it would be better to support efforts to increase social support for single mothers in South Korea. Right now, the social stigma against single mothers in SK makes it almost impossible for them to raise their babies on their own even thought many would like to. The reason why international adoptions have decreased is because 1) much-needed adoption regulation was put in place in 2012 and 2) the government is pushing HARD for domestic adoptions.

      I fail to comprehend all these soppy comments. Put yourselves into the shoes of his adoptive parents. His main interest is now his biological family. So sad. I'm not surprised adoptions from exotic places are declining. Many children just turn their back on their adoptive parents once they grow up. All they are left with is their misguided savior complex gone wrong. I know many stories first hand

    I was adopted in 1953 from a family of nine. I was the baby of six girls and three boys. They were originally from Canada so I am first generation American. In my 30s I met three sisters and two brothers and my birth mother and father. Four of my sisters were adopted as well; they kept the boys, of course. I haven’t seen them since the 80s; we were disconnected. I was adopted by a family from Philadelphia and was exposed to art classes and piano lessons at a well known music school; something that wouldn’t have happened if I’d stayed with my birth family.
